Art Meets Art Sexual Healing Review (Christophe Raynaud) 2017 + when i get that feeling giveaway

Art Meets Art Sexual Healing

Art Meets Art’s perfumes truly embody their passion for music. Perfumer Christophe Raynaud has masterfully captured the essence of Marvin Gaye’s voice in a way that is both captivating and alluring in Sexual Healing. The fragrance exudes a deep, rich, and creamy feel, with a hint of spiced wildness, perfectly mirroring the soulful tones of Gaye’s voice and music. While 1971’s “What’s Going On” remains my favourite album from Marvin Gaye, I have a soft spot for the classic track “Sexual Healing” which has become one of his most iconic tracks, that Sexual Healing the perfume pays homage to and also as it happens its Gaye’s last studio album. This scent represents a new era for Marvin Gaye, transcending the Motown and disco influences of his earlier work to create a soulful and funky vibe that inspired by his time in Europe, giving his voice a new beat to melt over. It’s a slow groove at 94bpm, yet this ballad still manages to evoke a stimulating feel and thrust. People Magazine hailed this track as “America’s hottest pop-culture turn on,” and Sexual Healing the perfume definitely possesses the song’s seductive and magical aura. Perfect for a memorable date night. From the moment I first smelled it, I was instantly in love, and with each wear I discover new subtle nuances that make it even more enchanting. It’s like re-listening to an album and hearing new things each time and just like a great pop song, it may seem simple and effortless, but it’s the intricate craftsmanship that conceals the hard work and allows the enjoyment to flow. Because when I get that feeling, I know Sexual Healing is all I need…

Christophe Raynaud of Givaudan

Christophe Raynaud and Art Meets Art Sexual Healing

Oh mercy mercy me… Sexual Healing’s opening is alluring, a spiced creamy ginger drips with a sensual warmth that gently envelops you like flushed cheeks as you eyes lock with someone special on the dance floor. Its smooth texture caresses the senses; letting its intoxicating deep honeyed sweetness blossom into a complex, abstract floral sensation. It makes you wanna holla as honeyed whispers of narcissus and deep osmanthus tones enter this dance within this symphony of sweet, ambery spices, adding a touch of ethereal beauty to the composition. The ginger, with its spicy kick, is accompanied by gentle woods and aromatic undertones that burn with a gentle fiery warmth, creating a vibrant energy that pulses through the fragrance, giving it its groove. Yet, amidst this sweet honeyed rhythm, it remains fresh and clean, stripping away the honey’s stickiness, keeping it sleek with a smooth allure, reminiscent of the clean found in 80’s synth-pop productions. Like the lyrics of the song, Art Meets Art Sexual Healing exudes a subliminal carnal feel, that sensation of warm silky skin, the honey gives this sensual feel and paired with the tobacco and vanilla feels smooth and slivery like the softest skin, this is no distant lover, its like you have been pulled closer after the dance.

Still from the music video from Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing via youtube.

Marvin Gaye’s voice is also encapsulated in the richness of resinous honey, with just a hint of beeswax to enhance its sensuality, giving it a gentle tactile feel and purr. As Art Meets Art Sexual Healing dries down its like his vocals intertwine with the warm spices getting silky and soft with a little bite, like those soft whispers as the track, Sexual Healing, opens and the purr as his vocal kicks in with the saxophone. There’s a beautiful a growl from the tobacco and honey just like his voice takes centre stage in the song creating a seductive melody, asking you to get it on. Marvin Gaye sings that sexual healing is good for the mind; I’ve heard it through the grapevine that honey too possesses a mind-soothing quality, adding a comforting element to the fragrance.

As the bass intensifies, vanilla emerges, adding a creamy and woody sensation that further enhances the composition. Tobacco unfurls its rich, dark notes, conjuring facets of mouth-watering cherries and decadent dark chocolate, with a touch of powdery nuttiness and earthy patchouli. This powdery element harmonizes with the warm honeyed ginger silkiness, intensifying the fragrance’s sensuality, that’s the way love is. Vanillas darker facets prevents the fragrance from becoming overly gourmand, while woody soft spices, dry fruits and gentle blonde woods add depth and complexity. Ambroxan amplifies the powdery, dusty, woody aura, extending the scent’s reach, much like Marvin Gaye’s music as it captures your attention and draws you in. Together, these notes create a mesmerizing olfactory experience that lingers on the skin, leaving a trail of warmth and sensuality in its wake. Can I get a witness!

Art Meets Art Sexual Healing has got that gentle yet slinky sexual feel of the song, with the spices popping like the guitar riff while the tobacco and vanilla pick out the groove on the bass, letting honeyed ginger of Marvin Gaye’s voice bloom over this rich creamy delight. It’s about that rich intoxicating sensual honey, silvered with slinky tobacco and vanilla, with the bass notes making it more addictive to wear. Again Art Meets Art capture the feel of the song and performer in the perfume. “Please don’t procrastinate” smell it for yourselves!

  • When I’ve read the name Sexual Healing I immediately thought of the song. I see that it stays true to the name as it has been described as warm silky skin, delicately carnal and rich smelling. It makes it also very appropriate for this cold season!
Very clever choice of words with the name of the brand…Art (perfume) meets Art (music).
    I’m in the EU.

  • Honey, tobacco and vanilla definitely are a trio of seduction! Like the name suggests and Wearescentient’s article further develops, Sexual Healing sounds like an ode to the senses, alluring and comforting in its simplicity. I love “minimalistic” olfactive pyramids and definitely love every single note in this one, so I’d be delighted to smell it!

  • A spicy, creamy ginger inspired by Marvin gave? What’s not to love. The notes mirroring the ebbs of the song is tantalizing with the sweetness of the honey and the vanilla and the tobacco making it dark and mysterious. This be an interesting scent to try and see if it delivers that sexual healing. USA

  • The name of the perfume is definitely not a common perfume name. I like the notes. Thank you. I live in Europe.

  • This one sounds good! The notes are right up my alley! Tobacco, honey, vanilla!! Delicious!!
    Thanks!

  • The notes described vividly in this review sound so appealing to me. The “pop” of the spices and smoothness of the tobacco and vanilla sound like a beautiful combination. I live in the US, CT.

  • The honey note with a hint of beeswax is what caught me as notes, they are both one of my favorite notes.
I always tend to smell honey jars especially when there is different kind of honey, so the smell is always different.

    Cheers from France (EU)

Fabulous description of this carnal and evocative perfume, It was my pleasure to meet the brand owner, Tanquy in Cannes, a real pleasure. Sexual Healing was one of my favourites from the collection along with Like a Virgin. This is a real seducer od a perfume leaving betwitched others in its wake. Lovely article, thank you

  • Marvin Gaye’s… Sexual Healing… Oh, the youth, the memories…
J Wearescentient thank you for another amazing review! What appealed to me the most is the comparison with music and guitar “Sexual Healing has got that gentle yet slinky sexual feel of the song, with the spices popping like the guitar riff while the tobacco and vanilla pick out the groove on the bass, letting honeyed ginger of Marvin Gaye’s voice bloom over this rich creamy delight. It’s about that rich intoxicating sensual honey, silvered with slinky tobacco and vanilla, with the bass notes making it more addictive to wear.”

  • As a fan of both Marvin Gaye and the combination of honey and tobacco in a scent, J Wearescentient’s review makes this sound right up my alley. I’m in Oklahoma, USA.

  • Marvin Gaye is an iconic inspiration for a fragrance. Frankly, I’m surprised there aren’t more fragrances named Sexual Healing. This sounds like it fits the bill with a lot of warm notes; ginger, honey, tobacco vanilla and ambrox. It seems like a very sensual skin scent. I’m in MD, USA.

  • When I get that feeling
    I want sexual healing
    Sexual healing, oh baby
    Makes me feel so fine

    Helps to relieve my mind
Sexual healing baby, is good for me
Sexual healing is something that’s good for me

Other than a fragrance nurd and collector, I’m also audiophile and I’m impressed by J Wearescentient opening.
Art Meets Art is a brand I’m familiar with, and if I have to rate my favorite ones:
    1. Sexual Healing
    2. Lilac Wine
    3. Bohemian Rhapsody
In sone aspects I do agree with J about the fragrance, at the same time I can say it also smells different on me .

“Yet, amidst this sweet honeyed rhythm, it remains fresh and clean, stripping away the honey’s stickiness, keeping it sleek with a smooth allure”

Sleek and smooth sure , but from the opening until dry down Sexual Healing is not neither fresh , or clean to me. The naughty elements are there straight away.

“Like the lyrics of the song, Art Meets Art Sexual Healing exudes a subliminal carnal feel”

Way more than subliminal if you ask me.

“…with just a hint of beeswax”

Sexual Healing is very much a waxy gourmand to me.

“…conjuring facets of mouth-watering cherries and decadent dark chocolate, with a touch of powdery nuttiness and earthy patchouli.”

I don’t get cherries, dark chocolate and earthy patchouli at all . I can tell on J skin the fragrance changes a lot , on the contrary on me Sexual Healing is a linear fragrance, sticky, waxy gooey honey, pipe tobacco, spices , vanilla and orange blossom. I wouldn’t call it dirty, but the carnal accord is on the front road.
In my opinion Sexual Healing is perfect for going out, clubbing and dates too , just be careful with the amount of sprays because at least on me the fragrance is VERY loud, it last for at least 8-10 hours, with filling the room projection in the first 2 hours. Christophe Raynaud composed a great olfactory experience of carnal and sexy honey.
All profiles I already follow, @waltherp99bg
    Thanks a lot

  • Oh my, this sounds sweet and seductive. I was already intrigued by the creamy ginger, osmanthus, and spicy amber, but when J started talking about the unique way they used honey in this one, I was really drawn in. He talked about how the abstract florals blend with the honey to strip it down a bit, taking away it sticky facets, and making it fresh and clean. I’m really keen to see what this is like. I love honey, but it can be a bit heavy at times and I would like to see how it’s used here. Of course, beyond the honey you have tones of tobacco, cherries, and vanilla – what is there not to like? Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

  • I really enjoyed this, great review. The review makes it sound as if the perfume goes perfectly with Marvin Gaye and “Sexual Healing”. The last paragraph is one that definitely enticed me about this perfume; “Art Meets Art Sexual Healing has got that gentle yet slinky sexual feel of the song, with the spices popping like the guitar riff while the tobacco and vanilla pick out the groove on the bass, letting honeyed ginger of Marvin Gaye’s voice bloom over this rich creamy delight. It’s about that rich intoxicating sensual honey, silvered with slinky tobacco and vanilla, with the bass notes making it more addictive to wear. Again Art Meets Art capture the feel of the song and performer in the perfume.” However, the rest of the review mentioned other nuances and materials not in the note breakdown or that last paragraph like narcissus is mentioned for example. Sounds like an interesting perfume and good for the weather. Thanks for the generous draw, from US.

Reading J’ s review, both artistic snd descriptive, I had this questio rising its giggly head – if we’re to blindly test Sexual healing, where would our nose/ mind take us?
I have sampled only Like a virgin from AMA, and I am sure that the honey in SH is something with a twist, like the rose in Like a virgin.

  • AromaDulce73 says:

How can you not love Marvin Gaye. Now to have a fragrance that mirrors his voice is truly amazing. The ginger and honey combo sounds great and that dry down seems even better, “Can I Get a Witness” haha. As a music lover this fragrance would be great to have in my collection.

  • Great review, made me click on the link to watch Marvin’s Sexual Healing twice! Oooh, maybe I need some healing? Let the soft honey tobacco scent set the mood.

    Greetings from Portugal

  • I do not know why, but after reading this article, a most random poem by Adrian Mitchell popped up in my mind:
When I am sad and weary
When I think all hope has gone
When I walk along High Holborn
I think of you with nothing on.

Perhaps it has some connection with this perfume’s background or I am just crazy? I think I have to test it to see and feel with my own eyes and my own nose.

    Thanks!!

  • I really like how J Wearescentient review focused not just on Art Meets Art Sexual Healing, but also on Marvin Gaye , and the all time classic song.
The aspects of the fragrance I find appealing are the intoxicating deep honeyed sweetness , sweet, ambery spices and cherries and decadent dark chocolate. I also like that the fragrance is not a childish gourmand, there’s sophistication and class.
Made to measure Coffee Brown 3 Piece Suit is the outfit I’d pair Sexual Healing with ,whether you’re attending a wedding, a party, or a business meeting, this suit will make you look your best , just like the fragrance.

  • Christophe Raynaud made Carner Barcelona D600 , favorite fragrance of mine, Art Meets Art is a new niche brand I was not aware of.
In Sexual Healing i like the honey, ginger, tobacco, vanilla and the sensual approach coming from the fragrance, and Marvin Gaye evergreen.
    Thank you so much

  • I’m usually leery of honey scents as they can go urinic on me, but the smooth balance and richness described here make this sound like a winner! I live in the US

  • foreverscents says:

The notes used to suggest Marvin Gaye’s sensual voice and the”Sexual Healing” record are intriguing. Honey, ginger, and vanilla are certainly sensual notes and a great and intoxicating match. I miss Marvin and I hope he and Tammi Terrell are together forever.
    I live in the USA.

  • I really dig AMA’s “Scent of Music” theme, and it’s a clever choice, since there’s really no wrong answer when interpreting each of these artists through perfume. Sexual Healing certainly meets the brief; its namesake track is sweet, spicy, and smooth, but not raunchy. Fun review J—I enjoyed all the Marvin Gaye references and lyrical nods you included.

I’m in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway—would love to try this.

    Hello from UK

-Available on their site (where you can try before you buy if you live in the EU) and at Jovoy Paris-

Jovoy UK boutique in Mayfair is where I discovered multiple gorgeous fragrances , but the quote made me think…again why there are brands you can find in Jovoy Paris, but are not available in Jovoy Mayfair?!? Marketing, different markets ,different customers maybe? Whatever the reason is, I’m interested in Art Meets Art Sexual Healing, but unfortunately I can’t go to Mayfair and smell it there.
I like learning about the slow groove of 94bpm , how the song Sexual Healing was inspired by Marvin Gaye time in Europe and the seductive and magical aura of the fragrance with the same name.
Olfactory honey and tobacco journey capturing the essence of the song, and the time line, that’s quite something if you ask me.
    Thank you so much

  • Ah, yes…we all danced to Marvin Gaye’s music back in the day. I’m drawn to the tobacco and honey notes in this fragrance. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff. Mich USA

  • J Wearescentient’s review of Sexual Healing is very enticing. That spices creamy ginger, followed by the honeyed sweetness paired with the tobacco and vanilla sounds all too divine and I just know I would love it. This really remind me of smooth jazz or a sexy song playing in the background of a intimate moment. I love!

  • Being a Pastry Chef I can say Sexual Healing from Art Meets Art sounds great, and definitely delicious.
J Wearescentient take on the fragrance made me think of making Gingerbread Honey Cake, with Macerated Cherries on top , and later on eating it with my girlfriend at home, while Marvin Gaye and his classic track Sexual Healing is the Cherry on top of the whole thing. Thanks to J Wearescentient i know Christophe Raynaud cooked a beautiful honey fragrance.
Appreciate the review, musical introduction, and the giveaway campaign

  • I’ve been really curious about Sexual Healing since Wearescentient posted on their instagram about it. I love tobacco and honey together, but the ginger element really seems like it adds additional personality and warmth. Thank you for the chance to win! I’m in MN, USA.

  • Respect for perfumers , and brand owners who’s lateral thinking leeds to original fragrances like Art Meets Art Sexual Healing.
Reading J Wearescentient essay made me think of how very few owners would dare to call one of their fragrances Sexual Healing based on Marvin Gaye super hit. I like honey and tobacco smell, can’t say no to chocolate and patchouli too , and keeping in mind the zealous examination of the fragrance by J Wearescentient i also know the perfumer did splendid work. The song i love , and the fragrance i’d really like to win.
    Thank you kindly, from EU

Thanks for the great review J!

I really love reading about fragrances that are based on songs, especially one as sensual and timeless as Marvin Gaye’s classic tune.

The opening with a creamy ginger infused with yuzu and green mandarin and unfolding into a complex floral dance, blending rose, lychee, and mugue, reminds me of the smooth and long opening into the song, before the music begins.

The fragrance progresses into a spicy, creamy ginger blend infused with honey, narcissus, and deep osmanthus tones, exuding an ethereal floral feel. Its smooth, clean allure, akin to 80’s synth-pop, intertwines with tobacco and vanilla notes, evoking the song’s sensuality. As it dries down, the composition embraces a silky, warm sensation, akin to Marvin Gaye’s vocals, enriched by rich tobacco, vanilla, and dark chocolate notes.

Art Meets Art’s “Sexual Healing” captures the song’s vibe impeccably, blending spices, honeyed ginger, and warm bass notes, invoking a rich, intoxicating feel akin to the music. The fragrance resonates with a sensual aura, leaving an addictive trail of warmth, much like the song’s allure.

  • Sexual Healing from Art Meets Art is such a charismatic fragrance , warm , delicious, and seductive. The thick rich syrup is the there , the ginger and tobacco. Almost a sticky gourmand, but not exactly because of how the darker facets of vanilla and patchouli are balancing the whole structure.
The “slinky” tobacco is something I’m curious about, interesting analogy.
Sexual Healing could easily lift my spirits up

I’d like to try something from this company, and I’d like to see how Christophe Raynaud’s work with them is like. I live in the U.S.A.

  • Tobacco, dark chocolate, vanilla and honey??? Listen I need it lol. That’s a gourmand I would love to have in my collection the description. The tie in of the ingredients with that Marvin Gaye smash just sets the mood. I just know this is a sexy situation I just know it.
