Amouage Odyssey Collection Chapter III – Escape Image by Louise Mertens.

Amouage reveals the third chapter of its Odyssey Collection, a quartet of new perfumes portraying Oman’s greatest treasure, Royal Frankincense, in all its complexity. Distilling this propitious moment in time and breathing new life into its iconic legacy, the new Escape chapter of the Odyssey Collection by Amouage adds four new Eaux De Parfum to its compendium of iconic scents. Amouage Search by Alexis Grugeon

Amouage Search Collage by Karl photos from Amouage.

Amouage Search by Alexis Grugeon (Firmenich) is instantly recognizable as a strong citrus / smoky and wood scent, which I was immediately attracted to for its forthright and unapologetic use of zesty, acidic lemon and lime teamed with mandarin which effectively compliments the use of Hojari frankincense and cade. The lemon has a slightly aged leathery and dry component to it, and I found this to work in harmony with the elemi and pepper to bring a unique vibrancy and sturdiness to the composition. This combination was to reflect the Persian black lemons (Limoo Omani) with their thick skins, which dry out in the sun they have a musky tang, which is most likely why the lime and mandarin was used in the top of Search. The transition of Amouage Search is a continuation into the deeper smoke and burnt facets of incense and guaiacwood. This is the first perfume I have experienced from Alexis Grugeon and I have been impressed with its commercial appeal whilst still staying true to Amouage’s fundamental concept of quality, storytelling, and impact. Top Notes: Lemon, Lime, Mandarin; Heart Notes: Hojari FrankincenseBlack Pepper, Elemi; Base Notes: Cade, VetiverGuaiacwood.

Concentration: Eau De Parfum, containing 25% of pure oils.

Aging: Maturation: 4 weeks | Maceration: 4 weeks. -Karl Topham, Senior Editor

  • Oh how I looove Amouage, I own two so far and they were love at first sniff, I grew up loving incense and Amouage does it the best, in my humble opinion. I’m trying to build my spring/summer fragrances and this is right on time. Both Steven and Karl mentioned the citrus opening that transitions into a dark direction , this fits me perfectly.

  • Steven review drew my attention on this particular citrus type of frangrance by Amouage.

  • FragranceIsMe says:

I was just at an Amouage Odyssey Escape Master Class held at Neiman Marcus this past weekend. Oh my goodness! Search and Purpose were my two favorites from the Escape chapter of this collection. The citrus in Search, along with the incense and cade in the drydown are so wonderfully done by perfumer, Alexis Grugeon. I find it to be an alluringly stunning creation from Amouage.
Both Steven and Karl are both fully 100% on the mark with their description of this creation. Thank you both for re-stirring my olfactory memory of such a wonderful experience 🙂

Amouage is my favorite house and would love to add this to my collection. Thank you Steven for the review.

  • mikebkirby says:

In regards to Karls essay, i think he is right that this is a new journey and also a new direction. The scents are distinctly Amouage but not in a traditional sense. Amouage done in a different way I guess.

Steven gave it a great review in talking up the citrus component that really makes it stand out from Amouage but also that makes it so versatile. Loved this scent from the discovery set.

  • So i got here through Steven, who left me very intrigued about this new Amouage due to the fact that it has vetiver and thats my favorite note. I only have one fragrance from this house and is by far my best one. I got into fragrances very recently. I never thought I did and I’m glad I’m discovering this world through such passionate people!

  • From the written intro I was intrigued by the citrus/smoky trait and from the video I was intrigued by the lime. US

  • Jonathan Bartholomew says:

Amazing article. I really want to get my nose on the new Amouages, because the brand never ceases to amaze me. I love them so much that I wore Jubilation XXV for my wedding, because it was the best fragrance in the world for the best moment of my life and marrying the best partner I could ask for. I love Amouage, and I cannot wait to give the new ones a good sniff.

  • Amouage’s Sunshine Woman was one of my first niche fragrances, and I have been in love with the house ever since. I have been anxiously awaiting the chance to try Guidance, but after watching Steven’s review highlighting the lime note and reading Karl’s comment about ” its forthright and unapologetic use” of citruses with an incense dry down, I’m thinking Search may be more in line with my tastes. Congratulations to Amouage for another fascinating addition to their collection!

  • What a great giveaway! I love Steven and Karl’s description of the zesty citrus notes that dry down to a woody incense. Amouage is known for its story telling and I can’t wait to add this to my collection. NY, USA

  • Steve Fernandez says:

Karl’s 1st line when he mentions the combo of citrus, smokey & woody is what intrigued me.

I like how Steven mentioned that the fragrance is citrusy but has a hint of smoke which I like. I don’t have many citrusy fragrances so this would be a nice addition to my collection. It would also be my 1st Amouge fragrance.

  • Amouage Search sounds like a winner for those of us who love fresh citrus scents, incense and the summer months! I’m intrigued mostly by the scent of Persian black lemons that have been dried in the sun combined with the incense and pepper–really curious about this scent profile and will have to try a sample.

  • Patrick Rortvedt says:

I love citrus fragrances. It’s tough finding ones that last more than a few hours. I’m interested since Amouage is known for quality. I appreciate your reviews and how you describe the scent.

  • I forgot to mark on last comment that I follow both @twistedlilly360 @cafleurebonofficial as well! Love the videos and articles thanks for posting!

  • I have been intrigued by this new Amouage collection for a little whole now. I appreciate the concept behind the line and am interested to see how they turned out. It seems as if they aimed to make these a bit more accessible to the masses and I was pleased to read that Karl feels as if they have succeeded in doing so while remaining true to the brand’s heritage. I love the sound of the citruses blending with the smoky elements to emulate the Persian black lemons. I was surprised to hear Steven say that vetiver is the star of the fragrance as I imagined the incense would be the central focus. I am not complaining in the least, however, as I love a clean and classy vetiver. I was also thrilled to hear Steven say that this one would be great for the warmer months coming up. I love rich and complex fragances, but they can often be too heavy for the heat. This one sounds like it has all the complexity you have come to expect from Amouage, but is bright and versatile enough for spring and summer. I would love to get my nose on it. I live in North Carolina, USA.

  • Outstanding reviews by Karl and Steven of Amouage Search. What intrigues me from their reviews is the zesty bright but yet grounded experience for up coming season. Thanks for the amazing giveaway!*! I live in CA, USA.

  • I’m attracted to the description of this scent, as it seems quite fitting for me in summer. Both reviewers brought up that it is smokey and dark while maintaining a very bright top. The note that draws me in however is black pepper – as Steven had pointed out that you could smell every note distinctly – which is my favorite note in a fragrance. I would love to get to experience such a luxurious brand that exhibits a palatable scent profile.

  • ramsesperez52 says:

I love a good incense fragrance! And of course, even though it’s a citrus, Amouage manages to still make it be a long lasting fragrance. I love how Karl says it’s okay. Bit of transformation path as Amouage typically does not do citruses. I like a green fragrance as well and mixed with the citruses, it’s a clean and refined scent (as described by Steven). Cheers from NJ, USA.

  • Christopher Dorsett says:

I like the way Steven and karl describe the fragrance decisions the belvedere in the woods. I would love to try this I am from the USA.

  • Another amazing review Steven and Karl!!!! Amouage is one of my favorite houses and hearing about this gorgeous fragrance makes me want to have it! Even though all the strong notes and leaning masculine I would love to have. I don’t own a lot of clean, fresh fragrances but what got me interested was the darkness from the heart and base notes… it’s a winner for me!!!! I’m from Massachusetts, MA.

  • MsEbonee23 says:

Steven’s review intrigued me and the article only reinforced my interest! Would love to receive this new fragrance and see what stories it helps me tell.

  • meenjokeem says:

This sounds so so so interesting! I love in Steven’s review how he gets the impression of smokiness/almost a sense of it being a little animalic. That truly sounds right up my alley.

Karl mentions it being a bit leathery as well, so in combination with all of the citruses like the Persian black lemons and lime sound heavenly.

I live in Pennsylvania, USA! I also follow both cafleurebon and twistedlily on instagram, my instagram handle is @meenjokeem

  • Intrigued by the zestiness as mentioned, would be interested in how they manage to make such a citrusy scent last so long. The lemony-pine smell sounds very nice. Live in California, USA. Follow both Cafleurebon and twisted lily on instagram. @supermandan87

  • Amouage such a beautiful fragrance house. The new Odyssey collection sounds wonderful. Love how Karl and Steven describe the notes. Perfect for Springtime. Thank you for this Chance USA

  • Steven always kills it with his detailed reviews, the way he dissects those notes and describes them are always on a professional level. This one is right on my alley, I’m a huge fan of citrus, there’s nothing better than spraying a citrus heavy cologne after a nice morning shower to wake up your senses and start the day on a high note. I live in MD, U.S.A. Amouage is one of my favorite fragrance companies, and I’m always wanting to try more Amouage fragrances. I’d like to see what their newer ones are like. Steven’s review was helpful. I’d like to see what the lime opening is like and when it’s in combination with the vetiver and the frankincense. I like to hear that one can smell the notes which are listed. I found Karl’s review to be helpful as well. He caused me to think that Amouage’s newer fragrances are still high-quality. I’d love to win this one.

What I like about Steven’s video is that he gives references to other perfumes that might have a similar note so I know whether I will like it or not. What I like about Karl’s introduction is that they introduce this note of limoo and I immediately associated it with the black limes that I made over the summer last year. They were great in stews.

  • FragranceWoman says:

I am a fan of the unapologetic path amouage is taking. “Search” seems to be another take on citrus that I like. The mix of citrus and fresh notes with smokey frankincense seems like something I have been “searching” for..Did you see what I did there hahaha. Karl explained it but Stevenson expanded on it. Amouage is known for heavy dark scents and I am glad they are developing fresher ones… i would love to try it..

I have never had an Amouage fragrance, but have kept an eye on them. I can only imagine how their choice of rare items, as mentioned in the article, for their fragrances make them stand out. I’ve smelled fragrances with an incense aspect, but appreciated the explanation, from Karl, of different “incensy” aspects that come with different chemicals and how they are truly differentin characteristic.

  • Steven says it is citrusy, woody creation that is versatile. He also mentions the vetiver is the clean type such as in Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and not the earthy kind. I am in US.

  • This sounds like a scent that will make you stand out from the rest!! Perfect for Spring/Summer!!

  • I’m not use to lime being in my citrus frangrances that I choose, I’m looking forward to adding this scent to my growing Amouage collection which currently includes Reflection, Interlude & Interlude 53.

  • Paul Ransom says:

I have a decant of Search and it’s a remarkable unique warmer weather scent. Steven and Karl described the fragrance thoroughly and I even learned a couple new things about the notes in the fragrance from Steven..

  • I first received a sample of Search in my ScentXplore swag bag, along with the other 3 fragrances in the collection and I was immediately drawn to it. With its aged leathery lemon component, the frankincense and woods, this will be a citrus fragrance that will be perfect for evening wear to cut through the heat of summer, matching the zest of the sky at dusk. Steven as always emulates in words a synesthetic cornucopia of olfactive notes that play a score that has you hearing not only an ocean of scents, but a landscape of memories. Truly a masterpiece loved by this Cincinnati, Ohioan.

  • Wow didn’t know there was a new scent. I love and have many Amouage, one of mt favourite brand ever

  • hippononamus says:

Steven’s description of the realistic citrus, the way the lime note is reminiscent of cutting limes at home as well as Karl’s description of how this scent is meant to evoke the Limoo Omani intrigues me the most about this one. I’m in the contiguous US and follow you all on Instagram.

  • The unusual Persian black lemons combined with frankincense and elemi sound both beautiful and unique. I’m in the USA.

  • Oh boy, I surely need Search in my life.
I am a huge fan of Amouage perfumes, being Interlude Black Iris my favorite one yet.
Karl and Steven made a fantastic job here. I love reading that this is 25% concentration perfum and that is a strong citrus with smoky notes, just amazing. I would love to win this one.
Steven made it right when he said that this is natural lime and vetiver fragrance. Just amazing.

  • Karel mentioned in his review of Search that Amouage is sticking to its legendary quality in the creation of this perfume. Steven did a great job of describing how this may be used in any weather and how it is a long-lasting perfumes, as most of Amouage perfumes are. Steven talked of its earthy, incense, but also bright character which is appealing as summer approaches. I am a Redolessence subscriber and love Steven’s video reviews. Thanks for a generous draw and reviews. In contiguous USA.

  • Karl’s story of the Persian black lemons (Limoo Omani) is a very interesting thesis around which to construct a fragrance. The exploration of non-“lime” scents in an attempt to emulate the performance of an existing citrus is intriguing!

From Steven’s video, I like the idea that the vetiver serves as a transition from the lighter citrus heavy notes into the fuller, frankincense and musk base notes.

Located in Brooklyn, NYC and have followed all accounts!

  • I was intrigued by Steven’s emphasis on the interplay of the light and dark elements of this fragrance — the combination of the bright, airy citrus with the darker, more masculine woodsiness and smoke of the frankincense, cade, and vetiver sound like they make for a really intriguing twist on the citrus-vetiver combo. As for Karl’s intro, I’m interested in his note about the lemon coming across as aged and leathery — those aren’t typically adjectives I associate with a lemon note, so I’m curious as to how that plays out in reality.

I am located in the contiguous US (New York) and I follow both accounts on Instagram!

  • Karl mentions that the citrusy notes complement the frankincense and I am intrigued by it. Steve mentions that the vetiver is “the star of the show” and I find that interesting. I would love to get a bottle. Oregon, US

  • I really enjoyed the introduction by Karl, especially regarding the leathery citrus and woody notes in this fragrance, and learning about Persian black lemons. Steven did an incredible job on describing the citrus, frankincense, and vetiver in this fragrance, and it’s interesting to hear about the transparency of this fragrance. From TX, USA.

  • The bright opening followed by the dark incense sounds up my alley! I love spring/summer scents that still maintain depth!

  • I’ve had Persian limes but have never heard of Persian black lemons. Amouage Search sounds intriguing with its combination of tart and burnt elements. Karl gives a great overview of the notes and how they’re used in the citrus smoky wood scent. Steven mentioned that each note is distinct and the black pepper makes an impression. MD, USA

  • Usually I’m not into overhyped things in life , but all new Amouage fragrances do receive a lot of love lately on all platforms, Cafleurebon YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and so on.
Amouage Search is my kind of fragrance. I can only guess, but I do think from the first spray It would make me think of Spring and Summer.
I don’t think I’ve heard about Persian Black Lemons before, Amouage and Alexis Grugeon surprised us with the new ,like Karl said leathery component. The quality incense is something Amouage are famous for, and the vetiver only adds to Search sophisticated character.
Journey Man and Interlude Black Iris are in my possession
    Overly exciting giveaway, USA

  • Again Steven did a great job of reviewing Search and Karl’s description of the lemon mixing with the incense has forced me to buy the Escape discovery set. I really need a citrus/spring summer fragrance from Amouage in my collection. Tbh I’m surprised I haven’t sampled Escape set already.

This is my grail Guaiac scent. it encapsulates the woody aspects with a slight whispy feeling that i have been searching for!!

  • WaltherP99 says:

One of the things I enjoy the most on Cafleurebon , is reading about fragrances I know, when the reviewer/s opinion is different than mine.
I’ve sampled the so called 3th Chapter of Odyssey Collection , and I’m leaning more towards Karl opinion of Search , rather than Steven’s.
Alexis Grugeon composed fragrance opening is indeed natural, and flavorful , and leaves you with the impression of one perfect late Spring and Summer fragrance, but at least on my skin Search changes quite a lot, and it gets way darker, more woody and heavy on the burned incense aroma. Like Karl i do get more lemons than lime , the leather and pepper facets, and just a small amount of vetiver, but guaiac wood on the other hand is quite a dominant note.
As a whole the quality is impeccable, Search smell very natural and upscale, and I believe the the fragrance will shine the most in rainy days.
If i have to rate my favorite Amouage fragrances:
    1. The very first sapphire glass, kanja dagger kind of cap Reflection Man presentation.
    2. Vintage non-magnetic cap version of Jubilation XXV
    3. Opus XIV Royal Tobacco

  • The Persian black lemons mentioned caught my attention. I do enjoy dark smoky scents and frankincense. Steven describes Search as bright, a bit animalic and earthy. I’m also a fan of Amouage. Thanks for another awesome review and draw. Mich USA

  • Never heard of a black lemon. Love that Karl thinks Alexis stays true to the brand. I love the color of those new bottles. I was hoping my local shop had this new Odyssey line in, but not quite yet. That embossed box is truly classy!! Love to watch Steve on Cafleurebon……no ads! Steve knows his lime, but where was the margarita? Enjoyed the brief explanation of those incense resins. That would be a great topic for those of us who love incense to go more into depth about. Thanks Twisted Lily, Cafleurebon, Karl and Steve!!. WA state USA.

  • I enjoyed Michelyn’s introduction and Karl review!
From Steven video I understand about freshness and beautiful citrusy side of this perfume.
I love Amouage very much, my favourites are Epic Man and Woman, Opus 11.

  • I need to try all new Amouage latest releases . Even before reading, and watching Karl and Steven takes on Search , I knew it would be a shapeshifting fragrance , all Amouage fragrances are.

“This combination was to reflect the Persian black lemons (Limoo Omani) with their thick skins, which dry out in the sun they have a musky tang, which is most likely why the lime and mandarin was used in the top of Search.”

No matter if you call them Limoo Amani / Omani , or Loomi , the taste and aroma depends on a few things:
☆ The drying process , some people use only salt , some lay them in the sun, and others dry them in the oven to accomplish the desirable smokiness , taste and color
☆ The extent in which they are dried and oxidized, the darker color the get , means the smokier and more bitter the smell , and taste are. Lighter limes do possess softer acidity, and are more fragrant, less smoky , and less musky .
I don’t know what kind of Limoo Amani’s are used in Search, but usually in the Middle Eastern cuisine the pungent and smokey nuances are more appreciated.
Be aware there are tons of fakes , Limoo Amani should come only from Persian lime, a not from conventional lime , because of more naturally sweeter , and acidic properties.
Limoo Amani aroma and taste are both quite complex actually , musky , earthy , smoky , bittersweet, and sometimes even slightly fermented.
Karl and Steven combined take on Search made me think of being in Oman , drinking Loomi Tea (made from Limoo Amani ) , while burning incense somewhere in the desert.
As a Pastry Chef, I’m fascinated by Alex Grugeon usage of Limoo Amani in Search, and the special incense too.
Jubilation XXV is a staple in my collection . Smells a bit like a mix between BlackBerry crumble traybake and BlackBerry Swirl Muffins with honey butter both with cinnamon. Can’t help it- Pastry Chef in me goes forward ‍each and every time. My favorite Amouage, and the fragrance I’m wearing at the moment.
Appreciate both Karl , and Steven reviews , and the giveaway campaign.

  • I enjoyed Karl’s earlier profile of the Odyssey Collection—at least two of the quartet sounded like fragrances I’d wear regularly and I like the whole concept exploring frankincense in many expressions. His review of Search called my attention to the black lemon note; musky, tangy citrus over smoke and incense is an interesting combo, and I like how it enhances the theme as well. Steven pointed out in his review that the lemon and lime notes smell particularly natural, which is very appealing. I’m glad clean vetiver is the “star of the show” as well.

Thanks for the beautiful review Steven and introduction, Karl.

Karl’s introduction on the entire Amouage Odyssey collection was quite interesting.

I really enjoyed reading about search because of the play between the lemon and the wonderful citrusy tones that are evident in Hojari incense. Using cade, vetiver and guiacwood is especially fascinating as it provides a foil to the brightness of the fragrance.

I would love to get my nose on this.

  • I like Steven’s description of the what cade oil adds to the fragrance. Karl’s note breakdown was helpful to understand how I would feel
    about Search. Utah, USA

  • Amouage fragrances are just different. Even if you like all announced notes, In my opinion you should never blind buy , without trying the fragrance you’re interested on skin. Some do smell very different on different people, when sprayed on skin . Sunshine Man i share with hubby for years, the fragrance is gourmand on me , but on him is less sweeter , herbal and sour. You just can’t tell we’re wearing the same fragrance !
Similar expectations I have for Search , clearly there are some deviations between Steven and Karl opinions .
The burning Royal incense , the lime and mandarin, and the vibrancy of the fragrance I’ll be seeking the most ❤
I wonder how Search would smell on my skin, the same way it smells on Steven , on Karl or completely different ?
My favorite Amouage is Sunshine Man
    Thanks for the draw

  • I love amouage so much, they make my favourite fragrances of all time. (Beach hut, sunshine, and jubilation XXV) I love what Karl had to say about the unique citric facets of the fragrance:-“Persian black lemons (Limoo Omani) with their thick skins, which dry out in the sun they have a musky tang”- this part really grabbed my attention, and Steven talking about the strong beautiful limes in the opening absolutely do I love photorealistic limes! while with Karl’s perspective I loved the way he described what these lemons do when left to dry, it really shows how deep and vivid the fragrance allows this lemon facet to really transform and be beautifully complimented with the mandarin and lime (along with blood orange and bergamot these 3 citruses are among my favourites) and frankincense to make for something truly transcendental, citrus and smoke with a beautiful dark depth perfect for all seasons. I love smoky scents so Guaiac wood vetiver and cade are also notes I have been obsessed with recently. Steven, who I’ve watched for many years, talks about the clean green vetiver with the Cade’s smoke balancing itself beautifully against the lemon and lime with beautiful stillage and very long lasting performance. Citrus facets are especially great in the summer and spring, but powerful and versatile enough to be worn in all seasons and occasions. Sounds like a masterpiece once again from this amazing house. As a native Californian, this speaks true to my interests and things that bring me joy. Thank you Steven and Karl for your unique perspectives.

Lovely introduction and review! What intrigues me about Steven’s video is how he emphasizes how natural the lemon and lime accords of the fragrance smell. So often lemon notes can smell chemically or worse “cleaning fluid”-esque so hearing that here it is incredibly natural is a huge selling point for me!

What intrigues me about Karl’s introduction is how he describes the use of lemon and lime as an having an unusual “slightly aged leathery component” to it which is meant to reflect Persian black lemons with their thick skins that dry out in the sun and have a musky tang. I generally find use of lemon to be too bright and fruity but this type of aged lemon with unusual depth sounds so perfectly intriguing I absolutely must try it!

  • Love such double, in a way contrasting reviews 🙂
It’s been a long-long time, since I started wearing Amouage perfumes , usually I prefer male versions , despite being a woman.
I see , like in all Amouage , the One Thousand and One Nights connection , but for the Summer. I’m curious if I’ll be able to pick the leather, and the Persian Limoo Omani, and the deeper smoky aspects of Search, or more brighter ones like Steven
In my opinion Jubilation XXV is still the best Amouage
    Thank you for the opportunity

All Odyssey Collection Chapter III fragrances are in my wish list, and I like the tradition-stepped modernity idea behind . Keep the original Royal Incense DNA , and change the clothes, same body , different suits .
From Karl and Steven analysis, I know Search is refined citrus fragrance, with leather, special dried black Persian lemons , and the Royal Incense.
Every time I’m thinking about Amouage, I’m thinking about Interlude Man . Stunning fragrance.Happy to own it , one of the best , if not the best ever created in the incense category. I’m on my 4th bottle , and already made a dent on it . Reflection Man i think, is second best Amouage.
Thank you Karl , Steven and Twisted Lily

I loved Steven’s video review and Karl’s Introduction to this new release Amouage Search. This sounds like a beautiful citrusy fresh fragrance with that spicy, earthy, and incensy DNA and performance we have come to love from Amouage. Steven does an amazing job of illustrating this. I loved Karl’s intro learning more about this amazing Omani brand. I am from the USA.

  • Excited about this latest release!! I love vetiver and citrus! I love lyric for Men and find it very unisex. Their Love florals are great too! So many great ones from this house.
    In USA thank you!!
