Can a perfume purr? Could it growl? If there is one material that can create these effects in a bottle, it is musk. From dirty, sexy and animalic to clean, powdery and floral, musks are materials that contain a multitude of olfactory aspects and fulfill a plethora of structural roles.

Aether Arts Perfume Kittens and Cream is Amber Jobin’s latest release and it is a beautiful study of musk materials (read our Notes from The Lab on synthetic musks by Sherri Sebastian). This fragrance takes its inspiration from the cuddly cuteness of kittens. Amber shares her creative process: “as for my inspiration, I love musk perfumes in all their many forms and scents, but most especially ones that have some noticeable animalic notes. I also love and appreciate cats and have fostered a number of feral cats in our neighborhood (one of which has now become a very loving, indoor cat). So, it was a natural leap to create a cat-inspired, musk perfume. It’s so relaxing and comforting to have a purring cat on your lap and I wanted to capture that feeling in a fragrance.” Anyone who spends time with animals knows the great comfort and emotional bonds that we form with our furry friends. The particular scent of a new kitten (or puppy) is the ultimate in softness and endearing fluffiness. Our best nurturing and most affectionate selves can often be found in the company of a newborn pet.

Aether Arts Kittens and Cream Perfume opens with warmly sophisticated fur accord that is clean and comforting. The animal accord that Amber has constructed is wonderfully complex while maintaining a light texture. The kitten we are cuddling is well-washed and immaculately groomed. This affectionate skin-scent surrounds us in a snuggly fragrant bubble. Aether Arts Perfume Kittens and Cream perfume pairs the gentle fur accord with a buttery cream accord. This purrrfect pairing is a halo of tender animalic and whipped cream notes. The soft and subtle creamy accord in this fragrance is elegant in its restraint. This is not a childish sugar bomb, but rather a chic and elevated lactonic experience that is as polished as it is opulent. The buttery cream has a neat edge that reminds me of the finest French Chantilly cream. Kittens and Cream is an intimate skin scent recalling the most joyful moments with your furry pet and an ingenious gourmand musk perfume that truly warms the heart.
Notes: Warm Fur Accord, Buttery Cream Accord, Softly Animalic Musk Accord
