Can a perfume purr? Could it growl? If there is one material that can create these effects in a bottle, it is musk. From dirty, sexy and animalic to clean, powdery and floral, musks are materials that contain a multitude of olfactory aspects and fulfill a plethora of structural roles.

Aether Arts Perfume Kittens and Cream is Amber Jobin’s latest release and it is a beautiful study of musk materials (read our Notes from The Lab on synthetic musks by Sherri Sebastian). This fragrance takes its inspiration from the cuddly cuteness of kittens. Amber shares her creative process: “as for my inspiration, I love musk perfumes in all their many forms and scents, but most especially ones that have some noticeable animalic notes.  I also love and appreciate cats and have fostered a number of feral cats in our neighborhood (one of which has now become a very loving, indoor cat).  So, it was a natural leap to create a cat-inspired, musk perfume.  It’s so relaxing and comforting to have a purring cat on your lap and I wanted to capture that feeling in a fragrance.” Anyone who spends time with animals knows the great comfort and emotional bonds that we form with our furry friends. The particular scent of a new kitten (or puppy) is the ultimate in softness and endearing fluffiness. Our best nurturing and most affectionate selves can often be found in the company of a newborn pet.

Aether Arts Kittens and Cream Perfume opens with warmly sophisticated fur accord that is clean and comforting. The animal accord that Amber has constructed is wonderfully complex while maintaining a light texture. The kitten we are cuddling is well-washed and immaculately groomed. This affectionate skin-scent surrounds us in a snuggly fragrant bubble. Aether Arts Perfume Kittens and Cream perfume pairs the gentle fur accord with a buttery cream accord. This purrrfect pairing is a halo of tender animalic and whipped cream notes. The soft and subtle creamy accord in this fragrance is elegant in its restraint. This is not a childish sugar bomb, but rather a chic and elevated lactonic experience that is as polished as it is opulent.  The buttery cream has a neat edge that reminds me of the finest French Chantilly cream. Kittens and Cream is  an intimate skin scent recalling the most joyful moments with your furry pet and an ingenious gourmand musk perfume that truly warms the heart.

Notes: Warm Fur Accord, Buttery Cream Accord, Softly Animalic Musk Accord

Hello from Florida, and thank you to Rachel for the review!

Cats tend to smell amazing — I’m very intrigued by the idea of a perfume inspired by them! I also love lactonic notes, so I’d love to give Kittens and Cream a try.

  • Awe this is such a sweet sounding fragrance. I love kitties, they’re the cutest, most goofy creatures to exists. Literally learning to be cats, and we all know how silly cats can be. It’s so sweet watching them learning about the stairs and baths. This fragrance sounds really comfy and like something I’d wear when feeling sad 🙂

    Cheers from IL, USA.

  • Thank you for this review! While I love animalics, Kittens and Cream does not sound quite like anything I’ve smelled before. I love the idea of combining animalics with a “chic and elevated lactonic experience”. Really, it sounds wonderful. Thanks for the opportunity to try.

  • I’ve been wanting to try Aether Arts for such a long time! All Amber’s creations sound so interesting and unique. Kittens and Cream sounds like such a cool mix of animalic and cozy. I’d love the opportunity to try it! I’m in MN, USA.

  • What is so appealing to me about Aether Arts Perfume Kittens and Cream is the fact its not juvenile and just a sugar bomb but rather a well crafted chic gourmand musk skin scent. I really love creamy musk scents and also love love cats and kittens. Thanks for the amazing magic giveaway! Greetings and gratitude from the USA.

  • Wow, this scent sounds beautiful and comforting, an antidote to some of the world’s craziness. I love animals, have had cats and dogs in my life for many years, and the feeling of snuggling with a kitten is truly hard to match. I would love to experience that in a scent for a little cocoon of comfort!

Cats and perfume, two of my most favorite loves. Of course the title of the post grabbed me. Also, a lactonic musk sounds so cuddly and divine! I live in the US.

Thanks for the lovely review Rachel.

Amber is great at making scents that I have not heard/smelt/read of anywhere before.

This fragrance is so interesting because of the brief. I do enjoy the fuzzy animalic smell of the cats in our house. It’s not an unclean scent, rather a comforting a soothing one, almost like that of washed skin or a newborn.

I would love to sample this.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • You had me at Kitten! I am a big cat lover and have rescued and placed over 75 cats/kittens.
This fragrance sounds so cozy! I don’t think I’ve ever smelled a fur accord before.
    I live in the USA.

  • Without fail, when Amber Jobin releases a new perfume, the concept is unique and inspired. In this case, she surprises us with musk. I’ll admit that I have trouble imagining how exactly the lactonic notes interact with the musk accord here, but “well-washed and immaculately groomed” musks sound like the right type to pair with gourmand notes, and I’m very curious about the results. Fun review, Rachel.

I’m in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway.
