No one can accuse Joseph Quartana of rushing his fragrances. Les Potions D’Entéléchie collection was seven years in development. The central hallmark of the perfumes is the Aristotelian concept of entelechy, invoking the complete potential of one’s soul through exposure to combinations of sacred essential oils. Beaut’Air blends leading-edge science with holistic and health. Founder Joseph Quartana initially developed Les Potions D’Entéléchie to support his convalescence after a sudden, life-saving surgery in 2017. Understand, each fragrance contributes to the healing process that Joseph Quartana is exploring.

I need to laugh, and when the sun is out, I’ve got something I can laugh about. I feel good, in a special way. I’m in love, and it’s a sunny day –Songwriters: John Lennon / Paul McCartney Good Day Sunshine lyrics © Kobalt Music Publishing Ltd., Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC

Beaut’Air’s maiden notes of citrus, grapefruit, an  Lemon are pure morning glory. An exultation of sunny days with feel-good vibrations. These notes are all light, with no shade. The grapefruit here is soft and brings a cleansing aura, supporting the mental-physical connection. A benefit of citrus fruits is an exceptionally high vitamin C content, which assists in boosting the immune system and helps the body fight off infections and illnesses. The Thyme Essential Oil here adds a fresh, herbaceous aroma that this warm, gentle, and clean. Thyme Essential Oil also helps boost the immune system and supports long-term, overall health. It’s calming to the mind, body, and spirit, promoting greater self-assurance, which helps to dispel any negative feelings one might be experiencing.

To the heart of the matter, the linden blossoms’ scent is a green, airy one that is slightly suggestive of lily of the valley and has a honeyed poignancy. The Linden Blossom helps ease muscle spasms and supports healthy digestion, which reduces unwelcome microbial activity. It blends well with the rose, lemon, and grapefruit notes here. For those that shun the rose, fear not, the Turkish Rose Absolute LMR, Turkish Rose Oil LMR notes here border on ethereal. What you get is a fresh powderiness. The rose oil stimulates the limbic system, which influences emotions and stress levels. Sichuan Pepper CO2 Absolute LMR is clean and certainly not a dominant pepper. Wellness benefits include emotional and cognitive care. The orris root disseminates a warm, sweet, earthy, violet-like element that is also a little powdery (you see a trend here?) that adds a nice dimension. The orris root, used in spiritual practices for love magic, protection, and spirit communication, is associated with the Goddess Iris, symbolizing love, purity, and communication with the spiritual realm.

The Amber that shows up here is warm, rich, but not so resinous. Often used for its calming and grounding properties, it helps reduce stress and anxiety, and potentially aids in wound healing. Guaiac Wood, considered a watered-down agarwood, is a bit of a ghost here. You know it is there, but you cannot sense it. Guaiac Wood is conducive for muscle and joint pain, breathing problems, and skin disorders. With its distinctive scent, Saffron is a complex fragrance that can be subtly sweet and warm. Known to elevate mood, enhance libido, and improve memory. Early Greek and Roman civilizations used Saffron, known as red gold, in perfumery, and on the island of Rhodes, Greeks wore pouches of Saffron to mask their body scents. The Sandalwood note here is a warm, woody, and creamy scent with earthy and slightly sweet undertones. Sandalwood fragrance offers numerous benefits, including promoting relaxation, reducing anxiety, and enhancing mental clarity. It’s also known for its potential to improve sleep quality, boost focus, and even act as a natural aphrodisiac. Additionally, Sandalwood can be used in aromatherapy to create a calming and spiritual atmosphere, making it a popular choice for meditation and yoga practices.

Hernando’s mentioning of the health benefits of the different ingredients was a little strange to me. Not sure how the vitamin c from the citruses or the thyme essential oil’s immune boosting properties translate to a perfume, but it does sound like a therapeutic summer fragrance that would be lovely to try. I’m in the US.

  • Ramses Perez says:

This collection of fragrances by Quartana is quite interesting. A novel idea in perfumery amongst many that offer the wearer the power of healing. Based on the notes and Hernando’s review, this sort of is an airy scent but with the ingredients to help you heal. Lots of natural oils that are used in many homemade remedies can be found on this composition but mixed with more traditional elements of perfumery to convey the feeling of healing. I’m ready to heal my sense of smell with this one. I’m located in the USA.

  • This made me want to try a linden blossom perfume for its light, honeyed floral scent that is fresh and calming, like a gentle spring breeze. The creamy sandalwood and subtle rose add a cozy, uplifting vibe. In maryland.

  • This sounds like a very gentle and calming scent that would pair well with activities like yoga or meditation. The review mentions that this sits close to the skin and while I do prefer my fragrances to have a bit of a presence to them I would still be happy to experience this one. I’m in the USA

i’m not very familiar with linden blossoms, so i appreciate hernando’s description of how they smell as well as the explanation of their health benefits. hearing that the sichuan pepper note isnt too strong is reassuring as i’m not usually fond of pepper… overall this fragrance sounds incredibly clean and uplifting, just perfect for spritzing on at the start of a good day 🙂

thanks for the review! i am definitely interested in finding out more about the parfums quartana brand!

    Hi there,

A complex and healing-focused list of beautiful notes in this one, rounded out(for me) by thyme oil. In the summer months we have thyme plants growing on our apartment roofdeck, for all to enjoy, and it becomes a staple of my summer cold salad cooking! Thank you for highlighting Beaut’Air and also for describing the benefits of Sandalwood! My favorite. I live in NYC/USA.

    Cheers,
    Deborah

I got my nose on this and it is an absolute delight! This has 2 of my favorite notes (saffron and sandalwood). Interesting about the health benefits of some of these notes. I say perfume is vitamin H (happiness) . Thanks. USA.

  • Brandon R. says:

The pure nature and delicate blend of these notes that transcend the nose and work on the body and mind to dispel negativity. A reminder of life happiness and love. This is a fantastic fragrance and would be awed to add something like this to the collection thank you Hernando for the review.

  • AleksCipri says:

Hernando’s description is spot on! I’m currently sampling this fragrance and my perception of the composition is quite similar. It is so calming and happy! The citruses are there but they are not sharp at all. The fragrance has a sweet and non distinct floral tone from the start. I am not a huge fan of rose and I agree with the review that it is not really noticeable or obvious. It plays more of a supportive floral role adding powderiness. I really like it! Cheers from Illinois, US.

  • Jenna Park says:

I like the idea of my fragrance not just smelling good but also making my body feel good. It’s clear careful consideration was taken with every ingredient. Different smells are associated with memories good and bad. Beaut’air sounds like the next step in perfumery. Why not wear a scent that has a duel function. My father gets cramps in his arms and legs from having chemo. No medicines or diet changes are helping. Its fascinating to think that a scent could potentially ease some of his pain. I’m in Pennsylvania US

  • Given the notes I was already on board with the fresh citus, ethereal ozone and linen. But after reading the potential health benefits Hernando highlighted, I thought this is more up my alley than just the notes. Without revealing too much, I’m as open to homeopathic methods of healing as I am grateful to those kind enough to offer me prayers and blessings. Beaut’Air sounds uplifting both mentally and physically… And who couldn’t use that brand of healing?

  • I think we could all use a fragrance that makes us feel happy. The opening of bright, sunny citrus signals an uplifting experience. The number of essential oils and absolutes in the composition is impressive. I love the honeyed green notes of linden blossom. The Turkish rose and warm rich amber produce a sophisticated side to the scent, MD, USA

  • GreenTourmaline13 says:

I love soft linen scents with oomph in them; w a bright citrus opening and a rounded ambery base, this sounds right up my alley for a summer freshie. In tx, USA

  • I really enjoy the totally unexpected inverted progression of Soleil Invisible, so I’m intrigued by what surprises the rest of this line has to offer. While the citrus in that earlier Les Potions D’Entéléchie fragrance is a subtle contributor hiding behind a haze of smoky vetiver, Beaut’Air has it out front and center, part of a bright and airy composition that sounds perfect for spring days. The thyme-introduced floral heart sounds lovely—linden blossom can be gorgeous in fresh green fragrances. I’d love to try Beaut’Air.

    I’m in the USA.

  • Kensolfactoryodyssey says:

Hernando’s review beautifully captures the essence of Beaut’Air—equal parts radiant optimism and deep introspection. I appreciated the connection between each note and its wellness properties; it elevates the fragrance from a scent to a sensory healing ritual. The mention of the linden blossom’s honeyed airiness and the restrained, powdery rose made me especially intrigued. I also love how the review emphasizes the emotional journey behind the scent’s creation—Joseph Quartana’s story adds so much soul to the perfume. I’d be thrilled to experience this “sunny day for the soul” in person. I’m in the USA

I like that this review pointed out how each of the notes has specific mood boosting and/or healing properties. I also like that this scent seems to be specifically designed for the wearer, not so much the audience.

  • Hernando’s article paints a compelling picture of Beaut’Air. Knowing that the Les Potions D’Entéléchie collection was born from Quartana’s healing journey after a significant surgery lends a profound weight to the concept of these fragrances as tools for wellness. The seven-year development period speaks volumes about the dedication and meticulous attention to detail invested in each scent.

The central theme of Aristotelian entelechy is an intriguing foundation for a fragrance collection. It suggests that these are not merely perfumes designed to please the nose, but rather carefully curated blends intended to tap into something deeper within the wearer. The emphasis on “sacred essential oils” further reinforces this notion of a holistic and potentially transformative experience.

Beaut’Air itself seems to embody a bright and optimistic spirit, perfectly captured by the inclusion of the “Good Day Sunshine” lyrics. Hernando’s description of the initial citrus notes as “pure morning glory” and an “exultation of sunny days” immediately evokes a sense of uplifting energy. Hernando’s article effectively connects the aromatic qualities of the ingredients with their potential wellness benefits, such as the immune-boosting properties of citrus and thyme, and the calming effects of thyme on the mind and spirit. This blend of “leading-edge science with holistic health” is a fascinating approach!

The delicate notes of linden blossom, rose, Sichuan pepper, and orris root create a nuanced and intriguing complexity. The description of the rose as “ethereal” and “fresh powderiness” is definitely appealing to those who typically shy away from more traditional rose scents. The inclusion of Sichuan pepper for its emotional and cognitive benefits adds an unexpected touch. The nod to the spiritual associations of orris root with love, purity, and spiritual communication adds another layer of depth to the fragrance’s intended impact.

Overall, Hernando’s article presents Beaut’Air not just as a perfume but as a carefully crafted elixir designed to promote a sense of joy, well-being, and connection to one’s inner potential. The thoughtful selection of ingredients and the underlying philosophy of entelechy make this fragrance sound like a truly unique and potentially uplifting olfactory experience. It certainly piques my curiosity to experience this “sunny day in a bottle”.

My gratitude to Joseph Quartana. I reside in the northwestern USA.

  • I also believe the sense of smell is strongly connected to our wellbeing and wasn’t aware of the term entelechie, so fascinating! Thank you for going through each ingredient and sharing its benefits. This sounds like an uplifting dream of a scent, I would love to try. In US.

  • I loved how the notes were described by Hernando! The marriage of thyme, saffron, and sandalwood has me really excited to try this fragrance, with the rose being a cherry on top of that. I’m in the US so I’m also excited for the giveaway

  • I adore linden blossoms and would want to try Beaut-Air based on that note alone! But the description of the aromatherapy benefits from the other components in the fragrance are intriguing. It was interesting to learn that Mr Quartana is focusing this collection on the healing properties of fragrances for both soul and body as part of his own healing journey. I am in MA.

  • wallygator88 says:

    Thanks for the writeup!

I like the idea of the fragrance and reading about the beneficial properties of all the notes. This fragrance sounds uplifting and joyous.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Hernando’s write-up hit me right in the feel-good center. Loved how he framed Beaut’Air as “morning glory in a bottle” and then backed it up with that grapefruit-thyme one-two punch. The way he unpacked the entelechy concept (perfume as soul-level self-upgrade, not just smell-good juice) gave the whole thing weight, and his take on the linden/rose/orris heart made it sound airy yet grounded, never grandma-powder.

  • I purchased a sample of Beaut’Air immediately after its release. It is absolutely stunning! All of the notes were right up my alley, so I knew I would like it. I love Hernando’s comments about how it opens with sunny day and feel-good vibrations. I had no idea that linden blossom could support healthy digestion, so that was interesting to learn. I love linden blossom, and it is done beautifully in Beaut’Air. Hernando’s comments about the notes and their healing properties just made me love Beaut’Air more so. I would love to own a bottle of this wonderful fragrance!

Thank you, Hernando, for the great article, and thank you to Joseph Quartana for the generous giveaway. I am located in the USA.

  • So much going on here where do I start. The use of naturals evokes the beauty shining both inside and out of it’s bottle. The complexity and the use of exclusive ingredients just shows the consideration taking while crafting this. The bright and airy nature of the opening and mid sounds great, but it’s the rich earthy elements from the orris and the cyprol make me wonder. The earthy and unique composition of its base sets this thing apart from the pack. The naturals and staying true to french perfumery whilst taking this to the next level of scents is admirable to say the least. I want to not just smell it but the feeling this gives off could easily give me the chills. Please let me win this. It would brighten my reality and aid in navigating through the world of commonality. Thank you
