Shoppe Object NY 2024 Summer

SHOPPE OBJECT New York Summer 2024

SHOPPE OBJECT New York is the home and gift show biannually held this year from August 4-6th. I spent nearly five hours meeting and speaking with some new and familiar brands. The Summer Show was held at two separate locations with a shuttle bus taking attendees back and forth throughout the day between the Skylight at Essex Crossing and Pier 36. I have it under good authority that the show will be moving to the Hudson Yards area next year which will make it more convenient for the Press and Buyers to attend since it runs in tandem with NY NOW. I get asked how they compare. NY NOW is buttoned up, and SHOPPE OBJECT is buttoned down.

One trend that was prevalent at the SHOPPE OBJECT New York Summer 2024 Show is the presence of impressively high-quality passionate female-owned brands with many that launched during the pandemic.

VAN DANG is a new, mindful, sustainable luxury fragrance collection founded by Kim-Van Dang and Anthony Roberts. The longtime Beauty Director at InStyle Magazine and Women’s Wear Daily, Dang’s passion for perfume can be traced to her childhood in Saigon, where her mother introduced her to the French classics: Chanel, Dior, Saint Laurent.  Interviewing legendary perfumers in her capacity as a beauty journalist and studying with Master Perfumer Ron Winnegrad at International Flavors & Fragrances in New York City crystalized Dang’s vision. In 2009, Dang met Roberts – a Cape Town transplant who trained as a sommelier and had a nose for fine bouquets. They married and launched their North American fragrance sales & distribution company KVDAR Inc. Twelve years later, they debuted VAN DANG Fragrances.

MON OEIL-Meo Fusciuni Parfums Display at SHOPPE OBJECT New York Summer 2024 Show

MON OEIL (pronounced [mo(n) neuy]) means “my eye” in French but the phrase also means something like “no way” or “I don’t believe you.” The goal of the agency is to bring the highly curated brands they represent to the American market: Blackbird, Mad et Len, Meo Fusciuni, Mihan Aromatics, Hilde Soliani, Neandertal, and Stora Skuggan. With time constraints, I focused my attention on Meo Fusciuni, the artistic perfume house founded in 2010 by Giuseppe Imprezzabile who is the nose and is a Aromatorio. Among my favorites are (in no particular order): #2 NOTA di Viaggio, NarcoticoL’OblioEncore du TempsVaranasi, Little Song.

Rhizome Scents

Rhizome Scents at SHOPPE OBJECT New York Summer 2024

RHIZOME from Milan, Italy was founded in 2019 by the Aschieri brothers, Stefano and Andrea. They craft  genderless Eau De Parfums, candles, and room fragrances. They believe that niche perfumery lost its way, and that the luxury fragrance game needs a shake-up. Why? Because the youth deserve something real. Forget the sky-high prices, the stale branding, and the faux exclusivity.  We believe that when it’s done right, a fragrance is not just a scent, but an experience. An experience that becomes a memory. An aroma that can bookmark a moment in time.

  • Excellent report. There are so many that are new to me. Rhizome Scents sparked my interest. As well as many of the brands by My Oeil

  • So excited to see all the international representation at this event! Especially curious about Olibanum ( I am newly discovering this note…) and I absolutely love the vision of Rhizome – it’s about time to shake things up! Thank you for this generous draw. I live in NH , USA .

  • So fun to see these new (and some old) brands. I am very curious about Nopalera. I’m super excited for their 3 upcoming perfumes. I recently got my nose on Olibanum, love that line. Thanks for the chance to fragrance my home. USA. Wa state.

  • SHOPPE OBJECT looks like a fun event that profiles lots of passionate and growing businesses. Interesting to see a wide range of cultures and backgrounds represented, and products offered in many different formats. MON OEIL’s lineup looked particularly impressive. Thanks for the coverage, Hernando.

    I’m in the USA.

  • I am happy to see a continuation of the ethically sourced and conscientious packaging and also women led houses and businesses. I also like seeing what might have been looked down on as crafts – candies, diffusers, oil based perfumes and soaps getting the respect they deserve as other ways to welcome fragrance into our lives! I hope to see more incense and candle offerings especially.
For perfumers and houses to look out for – oh my goodness too many to name!! And when you see a perfumer you love you know that house is probably going to be showcasing other perfumers you’d like too! “Birds of a feather” great review so much to learn!
    I am in a California.
