Esxence 2019: Meo Fusciuni Spirito Review + Extracts of Nature Draw

Leonardo da Vinci, Studies of Flowers, 1483

Come slowly – Eden! Lips unused to Thee –

Bashful – sip thy Jessamines –As the fainting Bee –

Reaching late his flower,Round her chamber hums –

Counts his nectars –Enters – and is lost in Balms.-Emily Dickinson (1861)

Receiving the very first samples vials of Meo Fusciuni Spirito from the perfumer flooded my existence with warmth and light. He is the most gentle, warm, authentic and humble of men, cherished in my sphere.  Meo Fusciuni Spirito is the second and final release of the Metamorphosis Cycle, inspired by the prose of Poet Emily Dickinson (1830-1886).  Her poetry is immersed in nature and it was this  portal through which Spirito enters.

Spirit, Christian Martin Weiss

The places we know, yet have never trod, the feeling that rises in us of the destination to be recovered, this is a Soul’s traversing.  In Life we move inexorably to the place of Spirit, the Returning.  Either taken inevitably by time or by the alchemical, Magnum Opus, sifting the internal chaf to find the kernel of Spirit.  Within the manifesto of Meo Fusciuni Spirito, pulses a monastic quality, the revelations to be found when we are removed from the dominance of physicality to encompass contemplation. It conjures, the tranquil chants of silence, the simple whispers of forest and stone, the peace and knowledge that is so elusive in daily life yet tangible now in the folds of this fragrance.

‘In a never- before-seen- place, past the place I could only imagine.

Now I am there,Among fragrances never mentioned aloud, but felt in Spirit,

Where I have never been, nor you, perhaps only the Soul’s. – Meo Fusciuni 2019

Meo Fusciuni Spirito carries within its precious confluence of liquid form, encoding, to see with a sight beyond the visual.

Great Piece of Turf, Albrecht Durer 1503

The sweetened herbal entrance is transportive, reminiscent of a scattering of strewn meadowsweet beneath mediaeval feet.  Purest Gregorian voices carry me, a tonal harmonic held, Angelica, Chamomile, Carrot and Herbal notes waft across a liminal field, borders and veils shift, presence of a balm upon a frenetic life. Time is irrelevant, a rite of passage the Soul sonorously calls for. A sorcerous blend, whose otherworldly heralds lay a path for woods, Cypress, Myrtle, Hyssop and Paper Notes.

"This is the land the sunset washes,These are the banks of the Yellow Sea;

Where it rose, or whither it rushes,These are the western mystery.

Merchantmen poise upon horizons, Dip, and vanish with fairy sails."

Extracts from Nature, LXIV,  Emily Dickinson.

Le Moulin de la Beune, Mi Desmedt

Minutiae in an exaggerated stillness, where silence has voice and stillness a dynamism. That movement beyond the perceptions. Grass, leaves and flowers in a slow motioned choreography, each felt and heard.  Virgin territory, awaiting my tread of feet, my fingers trace, my hearts pulse, each contact of my body releases this fragrance, diverse strands yet whole, intact a complex fusion and distillation of forested Spirit home. Cedarwood is soaring, elevated and sacred, Vetiver, Musk, Guaiac Wood, Elemi and Tonka Bean, a sensory landscape enrobing me in refined threads and weaving me in assimilation, I am everywhere and nowhere.

Notes: Angelica, Chamomile, Carrot, Herbaceous Notes, Cypress, Myrtle, Hyssop, Paper Note, Cedarwood, Vetiver, Musk, Guaiac Wood, Elemi, Tonka Bean

  • Meo Fusciuni is my absolute favorite perfumer (I am wearing Luce right now), so Danu's review was a pleasure to read, transporting me there, in the middle of Angelicas, Chamomile and gras..

Thank you for this great oportunity, Ca Fleure Bon.

I live in The Netherlands, EU.

  • Thanks for the draw and the review! I'm very excited to explore more of Meo Fusciuni's work because of the review, which describes a fascinating scent. I'm based in the U.S.

  • Great review. I love the note of chamomile but sadly the fragrances i’ve tried so far with this note, were a pass for me. I would love to try Parfum Spirito, so thank you for the chance. I am in the EU.

  • recursivemask says:

I've had a chance to work with chamomile before, and it's an amazing scent. The image of moving from the monasteries garden to a cool wood is an incredible description, and I would love to smell this! I'm in the us.

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

Impressive review!!! What an amazing description.

I love statements like…I am everywhere & nowhere….. Spirito is the longing, the dreaming, the knowing, the returning, known yet unknown revelation, destination.

Never tried any of the Meo Fusciuni creation so far & would be lucky enough to win. Thanks for the opportunity and generosity. Pakistan

  • NiceVULady says:

This is a lyrical review that helps us to understand Spirito at the highest level.  I've never sampled any of the Meo Fusciuni fragrances, so this would be a wonderful win for me.  Thank you for a glorious review and a generous draw.  I'm in the USA

  • What I really liked in Danu's review is the monastic quality that attributes in Meo Fusciuni's Spirito, like a revelation to be found when we live behind anything from the physical world in order to meet contemplation and the resemblance of tranquil chants of silence with the whispers of the forest and stone.

Thank you for the lyrical and so poetic review as well as for the lovely draw.  I live in EU.

  • Wow, what an interesting review. This sounds like a scent i could wear for some quiet atmosphere and contemplation in my sometimes hectic job. I like herbal and green notes a lot, so i would be very happy to get a chance to test this.

    I live in the EU

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

My mother used to give us chamomile tea in our bottles for medicinal purposes.  I grows wild where I grew up and it overflows in my garden today.  Its soft herbal sweetness calms my spirit, and I am always on the lookout for it as a note in perfumery but have yet to be truly satisfied with a representation.  I will be seeking out Spirito to try.  Thank you for the draw, I live in the US.

  • This feels like being in a fairy garden, breathing in magic. I have yet to expore Meo Fusciuni, thank you for the opportunity! I live in the US.

  • This perfume sounds so unique and wonderful. I think I would very like it. The notes are sounds so interesting. I would very like to try this fragrance. The article is also very nice. Thank you for the chance. I live in Europe.

  • DulciusExAsperis says:

what a poetic review! i am exploring more herbal scents these days in preparation for summer and would really love to try this one. Have not yet tried anything from this house. I'm in the USA.

  • Nice to see angelica and chamomile on the top. That's enough for me to like this. I haven't yet smelled a Meo Fusciuni creation. US

  • Danu’s description transported me right to Umberto Eco’s “Il nome della rosa”. The herbal, occult, spiritual, magical concoction sounds like it has just been poured out from Frate Severino’s vials or obtained out of the many healing plants from the deep forests around the mysterious abbey. I’m from Romania, EU.

  • I love how Danu wove the poetry into her very beautiful review!  I live in the US

  • Well, I'll keep it simple, I love earthy unisex fragrances. I'll be looking into this brand. Danu, anything "nature", I absolutely adore. Thank you for your beautiful review. And thanks for the opportunity to sniff, CaFleureBon! USA

  • So very poetic! This review makes me wish so much that I will like this perfume. I just love the idea of basing a perfume on literature – so cerebral, so refined, so old-fashioned (Dickinson!). ThereforeI am grateful for a chance in the draw. The note lists of Giuseppe Imprezzabile’s creations all sound wonderful, the tales behind them captivating. The thing for me is, I have generally been unimpressed with the performance of these perfumes. The allusion to “slow moving choreography” makes me hope that Spirito may be a lasting joy. The mentioning of stillness makes me fear another all too fleeting experience. I live in Germany.

  • Poetic and spiritual- the review and appearently the fragrance. Longing already for this perfume.  Living in the EU.

  • fazalcheema says:

When I think of brands with dark scents, Meo Fusciuni is often one of the first names that comes to mind. This is a marketing success as the brand has established their desirable image. Spirito stays true to DNA but also seems more crowd friendly than other compositions. I am in US.

  • Extracts in Nature.  I especially love the flowers by Leonardo Da Vinci!  Beautiful words and Emily Dickenson, sounds like a winner fragrance.  I would love to try.  Thank you!  USA

  • Carrots? Here’s something I’ve never smelled in a fragrance before, interested in how this whole composition plays together.

    Love from Germany!

  • Elizabeth T. says:

I love both the rooty smell of carrots and the herbal, floral quality of chammomile. They are such comforting scents. I would love to smell them together, I can imagine how the complement each other! This perfume sounds absolutely lovely. Thank you for this generous draw! I'm in the USA.

  • The description of this fragrance reaches deep into the soul as Meo Fusciuni intended it to. Thank you Danu for an uplifting review and for the opportunity to win a bottle of Parfum Spirito. I rather like charmomile also love iris done right and from one of Sebatian Jara's youtube reviews, I understand carrot is much like iris so this does sound like one I'd love to try. I'm in TX USA

  • Reading the review was like reading poetry. This appealed to me mostly… “Meo Fusciuni Spirito is the longing, the dreaming, the knowing, the Returning, known yet unknown Revelation. I love the herbal notes.

    I live in California.

  • citizenkage says:

Beautiful words for a beautiful sounding fragrance. I'm intrigued by the chamomile and carrot notes, coupled with some of my favorite notes like cedarwood, vetiver, musk and tonka beans. Fantastic review! I live in Florida, USA.

  • This sounds wonderfully complex and woody herbal. Very interesting. Loved the poems in your review 🙂

Would love to win – I am in Melbourne Australia

  • BostonScentGuy says:

From the notes to the poetic review to the art direction in the review, this feels supernatural and almost occult. Love seeing all those herbal greens but with the sweetness of grass. Looks really intriguing! Thanks for the draw– I'm in the US.

  • newyork318 says:

Sounds like an interesting exploration of nature, evocative of a peaceful woods. Haven’t yet experienced anything from this house. NY.

  • I love the poetic inspiration for this perfume. It sounds perfect for spring. Mystical, moderate, still and peaceful. Thanks for the review and the draw. USA

  • Amy Leonhardt says:

Thanks for the review; love learning about new (to me) houses. The countryside herbs sound perfect. I would love to try. I’m in CA USA.

  • Danu, I rarely use this word but your review makes me want to call it Parnassian: the whole piece reads like a poem itself! Spirito must be something special since it inspires people to write such lyrical lines (this is the second review on the new perfume that I've had the pleasure to read). If that weren't enough, the list of notes tells me I'm going to love Spirito. (Russia)

  • Of this review I especially enjoyed the description of the fragrance's herbaceous opening and the poetic inspiration. I am intrigued about the dry down of musk, guaiac wood, and tonka bean. I live in the USA. Thank you for the opportunity!

  • I absolutely adore Meo Fusciuni perfumes and in fact am wearing Odor 93 today.  I would love to try the new Spirito fragrance but I rarely win anything.  This new one sounds beautiful.  I live in the USA and thank you for the chance to win.  Who knows, maybe my luck will change!

  • Great article, Danu. New house to me. I loved the photos that accompany the article and the exploration of the concept. Without smelling it's hard to get an idea of the fragrance from the notes. The concept (which is really interesting) and images really do help match intention to result.  I live in the US.

  • bigscoundrel says:

Spirito sounds like it will transport me on an incredible fragrance journey. I want to experience being everywhere and nowhere. I'm in the USA.

  • goldenhour says:

This fragrance sounds wonderful. What appeals me most about the review are the monastic/contemplative qualities; one of my favourite ways to use fragrance is when I am by myself, late night or early morning, and want to enjoy a contemplative moment. I live in Canada. Thank you!

  • The sweetness, the timelessness of the scent description appeals to me. The greeness. Freshness. Quietness. Thanks! I live in California.

  • Woody , herbal fragrance with cypress , cedar , angelica and chamomile – sounds nice. It's pouring ouside and i do imagine earthy , woody foresty scent when i think Spirito.

    Thanks Danu

Back and forth between USA and Scotland (EU/UK).1 week in US ->1 week in Scotland , and so on.  Basically both USA and EU

  • This sounds like a very calming scent – herbacious and woody. It sounds ethereal!

    I live in the USA.

  •  Judging by Danu description Spirito is calm and relaxing fragrance  you wear for your own sake , when you don't want to be bothered by the foolishness of the outside world. Chamomile tea I drink a few times per week since I was a kid.

    Thank you Danu and Cafleurebon.

  • Really well written review thank you I enjoyed it,I think it was pretty interesting the perfumer was inspired by the prose of Poet Emily Dickinson and how her poetry is immersed in nature I like the inspiration . The fragrance also sounds wonderful I enjoy fragrances that evoke nature ,woody ,herbacious, earthy. I tried something from him before unfortunately I forget name but I remember I liked it ,would love to try this fragrance and his others…Anyway thanks for review and giveaway 🙂

  • This review was thoroughly enjoyable. The inspiration taken from poetry, as well as the mellow and balmy herbal composition sound great! Thanks for the draw, I’m from Finland.

  • To be honest I've never heard of Meo Fusciuni before , but after reading Danu's review I imagine myself seating on a porch of a house somewhere in the woods , enjoying myself and drinking slightly sweetened chamomile tea . What a dzen moment. I wish I had a nice remote house in the wilderness .

    Thank you for the opportunity

I have never tried anything from Meo Fusciuni, but this one would be a great start as it seems it has a poetic background and was inspired by poetry and I love poetry! The descripton sounds lyrical and also the pictures used, everything transports me back in time. I am from EU. Thanks!

  • gunmetal24 says:

I enjoyed Danu's interweaving the concept of stillness and time in her review. What a unique perspective on something so ephemeral! Based in Canada.

  • The way Danu reviewed this makes this perfume full of mystery. I'm intrigued! Greetings from the Philippines!

  • Thank you, Danu for this very poetic and beautiful review! Very near ce description, I really enjoyed it. Especially I was touched by this sentence: "…Virgin territory, awaiting my tread of feet, my fingers trace, my hearts pulse, each contact of my body releases this fragrance, diverse strands yet whole, intact a complex fusion and distillation of forested Spirit home".

I would like to test this beauty.

    from Armenia.

  • What a poetic review! It looks great , herbal and woody? Sounds good to me. I've been exploring the cypress note and this looks good. I'd love to win it.

I live in the US. Thanks

Reading Danu's review is like reading a fairy tale. The choice of words and pictures are very inspiring! The article seems to fit the perfume, judging by its notes, very well, I'd love to own it! I live in EU.

  • Very interesting notes and wonderfully written review. Love the image painted in words by Danu. I would love to own a bottle of Spirito. I live in EU. Thank you Meo Fusciuni and Cafleurebon for this wonderful draw.

  • bumbuliuki says:

I'm fascinated by Meo Fusciuni's work and Danu's lyrical review is the best way to describe this type of creations. Reading the review has brought me to a perfect state of calmness and evokes those special moments spent in nature, surrounded only by trees, grass and the wind.
Spirito has been added to my list thanks to Danu's beautiful review.
Thank you for this wonderful draw.
    I'm in Romania.

Happy person with gentle soul – that's Meo Fusciuni .I had a chance to speak with him at Esxence twice . Unorthodox fragrances meant for connoisseurs , and not for average Joe and Jill . If you're looking for compliment getters – stay away , but if you're looking for one of a kind fragrances – just dig in.

Own a bottle of Little Song – what a gem.

If Spirito is even close it will be eareally good scent. Spirito is the only one i do not know . Unfortunately i was not able to visit Esxence this year 🙁

    Thanks

Virginia USA or London UK … at least 97/100 times.

  • Haven’t tried a Fusciuni fragrance. This was another enjoyable review. On the poetic side too. Sounds like a pleasant Parfum. Thanks, US

  • Meo seems to be an extraordinary person. Spirito drew my attention because it embodies what I am looking for in fragrances – warmth and light, peace and tranquility, a balm upon a frenetic life. As Danu beautifully puts it „it conjures, the tranquil chants of silence, the simple whispers of forest and stone, the peace and knowledge that is so elusive in daily life”. Chants of silence sung with purest Gregorian voices, pulsing with contemplative, monastic quality. What more can you ask for?

    I live in Europe.

  • What comes to mind after reading Danu review is me walking through a lush green forest just after rain , and inhaling all the smells with joy. Nice job Danu and thanks to you , Cafleurebon and Meo Fusciuni for the opportunity. USA most of the year, and Germany from time to time

  • Michael Prince says:

Parfum Spirito sounds very unique with the Herbaceous notes and other unique notes such as Carrot, Angelica, Chamomile, and that paper note.  Thank you to Meo Fusciuni and Cafleurebon for the giveaway.

  • Great review by Danu and Spirito sounds amazing! I love the carrot and chamomile notes and I want to see how they play together. Angelica intrigues me. My favorite line is: " Spirito is the longing, the dreaming, the knowing, the returning, known yet unknown revelation, destination." Thanks for the generous giveaway and I live in the US!

  • Wow this one sounds so different. The notes sound so wonderful. I haven't tried anything by this house or perfume. I live in the usa.
