Tempus Vitae Élixir de Vie is a fragrance in which relaxation and invigoration interweave, embodied in scent. Ancient bathing pools from classical times spring to mind, where a daily spa-like experience was considered an element of good health, along with diet, exercise, and massage. The Roman theory of Salus Per Aquam, or health through water, tells us that relaxation of the muscles leads to a relaxation of the mind and improvement of the circulation (both blood and the lymphatic systems), which in turn creates better oxygenation and better functioning of the organs, generating an invigoration of the body. Élixir de Vie has certainly captured this ancient wisdom, just in time for spring energy and life!

Bridging delicacy and power, Tempus Vitae Élixir de Vie is a perfect fragrance for this season of warm weather and returning creation. Each time I wear this beautiful scent, the word “tonic” comes to mind. It is an invigorating, restorative, and refreshing perfume that will give flat energy a burst. Yuzu brightens the opening of Élixir de Vie with its hesperidic loveliness and accents of lemon, green notes, and florals. Yuzu also contains facets of mandarin and grapefruit, blending perfectly with the warm orange and fresh woody grapefruit notes claiming space from the darkness of winter.

At the heart of Tempus Vitae Elixir De Vie are vibrant dives into lemongrass and elemi. What an ingenious tangle of matter and energy! Perfumer Kyle Mott-Kannenberg does a fantastic job capturing the ginger-like freshness of the lemongrass, along with its lemony earthy sweetness. Elixir de Vie seems to imagine the swift and relaxing movement of a springtime breeze and offers it to us to wear as our own sillage. That brilliant movement continues with elemi, a resinous material traditionally used in incense.

Here, we get the height and airiness of incense without the weight, with spicy hints of pine and lemon wrapping a balsamic heart. It dries down to an outdoorsy and invigorating pine containing the strands of thought and feeling that were woven through the top and heart notes. Aromatic and green, the pine accord masterfully created by Kyle Mott-Kannenberg holds on to the citrus freshness, elemi resins, and gorgeous tonic qualities that so brighten the rest of the fragrance. The dry down adds a rounded woody layer with slightly coumarin and aromatic touches. The relaxing and invigorating dimensions and recurrences of Élixir de Vie are fantastic, as they keep a wonderful flow and capacity to brighten and enliven, just as a perfect spring breeze.
