Tempus Vitae Élixir De Vie

Tempus Vitae Élixir de Vie is a fragrance in which relaxation and invigoration interweave, embodied in scent. Ancient bathing pools from classical times spring to mind, where a daily spa-like experience was considered an element of good health, along with diet, exercise, and massage. The Roman theory of Salus Per Aquam, or health through water, tells us that relaxation of the muscles leads to a relaxation of the mind and improvement of the circulation (both blood and the lymphatic systems), which in turn creates better oxygenation and better functioning of the organs, generating an invigoration of the body. Élixir de Vie has certainly captured this ancient wisdom, just in time for spring energy and life!

Bridging delicacy and power, Tempus Vitae Élixir de Vie is a perfect fragrance for this season of warm weather and returning creation. Each time I wear this beautiful scent, the word “tonic” comes to mind. It is an invigorating, restorative, and refreshing perfume that will give flat energy a burst.  Yuzu brightens the opening of Élixir de Vie with its hesperidic loveliness and accents of lemon, green notes, and florals. Yuzu also contains facets of mandarin and grapefruit, blending perfectly with the warm orange and fresh woody grapefruit notes claiming space from the darkness of winter.

At the heart of Tempus Vitae Elixir De Vie are vibrant dives into lemongrass and elemi. What an ingenious tangle of matter and energy! Perfumer Kyle Mott-Kannenberg does a fantastic job capturing the ginger-like freshness of the lemongrass, along with its lemony earthy sweetness. Elixir de Vie seems to imagine the swift and relaxing movement of a springtime breeze and offers it to us to wear as our own sillage. That brilliant movement continues with elemi, a resinous material traditionally used in incense.

Here, we get the height and airiness of incense without the weight, with spicy hints of pine and lemon wrapping a balsamic heart. It dries down to an outdoorsy and invigorating pine containing the strands of thought and feeling that were woven through the top and heart notes. Aromatic and green, the pine accord masterfully created by Kyle Mott-Kannenberg holds on to the citrus freshness, elemi resins, and gorgeous tonic qualities that so brighten the rest of the fragrance. The dry down adds a rounded woody layer with slightly coumarin and aromatic touches. The relaxing and invigorating dimensions and recurrences of Élixir de Vie are fantastic, as they keep a wonderful flow and capacity to brighten and enliven, just as a perfect spring breeze.

Notes: Yuzu, Orange, Grapefruit, Lemongrass, White Florals, Pine, Elemi

Élixir de Vie described seems to be the perfect dressing of relaxation, I love Yuzu in any form and hearing it complimented by green notes and white florals sounds simply beautiful.

I enjoy both yuzu and pine in fragrances, but don’t recall one that includes the best of both worlds. This seems like a fun fragrance to check out this spring. i live in Maryland USA.

  • Half-Pint says:

Oh wow, this sounds like a stunning fragrance for the seasons ahead. I love it when brands take an unconventional approach and this looks like a very unique take on a spring/summer citrus scent. I adore yuzu and to see it here mixed with notes such as incense and pine really excites me. I have yet to try anything from this hosue but have had them on my radar for a little while now. This one sounds like a good one to use as a stepping stone into the house, especially with the warmer weather already beginning to come around here. I live in Virginia, USA.

  • Mr. Clean says:

What a lovely transportive bit of writing and a great review! Élixir De Vie sounds like the perfect citrus breeze for spring and summer. Really, you had me at yuzu, lemongrass, and elemi. Crazy, I was just on Tempus Vitae’s site this morning checking their offerings after seeing Dave from Cali’s Groom Room talk about Carpe Diem. Something’s in the air!

  • Now THIS is what I call a throwback fragrance review. A genuine investment in the entire story of the scent – not just a blah blah notes pyramid breakdown.

One may like OR dislike the actual fragrance, but the reviewer uses an old-school approach of having a thread that ties together the entire concept of the fragrance, – Inspiration, Background, AND the actual scent breakdown. Excellent work

  • Aaron DePass says:

Incense-y tonic is right up my alley. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A BIT OF ME! What strikes me the most to be honest is Rachel’s description. She goes into the motivation and historical inspiration to the perfume, which I feel like I don’t see too often. Brings a new perspective to the scent, and I’m excited to be given the opportunity to win this giveaway. Thank you again for the opportunity Kyle, tempus vitae parfums, and Rachel!

This sounds like it is going to be the best summer fragrance out I am very Orintoxicated to try it out for spring and summer

  • Basic Morlaco says:

Art is perfumery and perfumery is art. The Luncheon of the Boating Party portrays that mysterious and gorgeous look that is similar to one’s enjoyment of lifestyle in citrus aromatic fragrances. Can’t wait to try.

  • This sounds intriguing for sure. I think what strikes me the most is not the notes (which are some of my favorite) but the inspiration behind this scent. As you say bridging delicacy with power is interesting to me would love to try this!

  • Cali’s Groom Room says:

I can literally smell the fragrance through your description! Very well done! This fragrance truly is something special!

  • banjarmasin says:

I love relaxing perfumes, so this sounds right up my alley. I enjoy reading and hearing Rachel’s thoughts on perfumery, as always.

I really enjoy green and aromatic fragrances and Elixir De Vie is right up my alley!!!! And with the pine note is a chef’s kiss!!! I’m from Massachusetts.

  • Tempus Vitae is a house that sits high on my need-to-try list. Like many of their offerings, Elixir De Vie sounds phenomenal. I just recently discovered that I am a fan of yuzu in fragrance and to see Rachel talking about how well it works with the pine and resins makes me really want to try it. I’m also excited to see lemongrass in there. I’m a big fan of it in the culinary world and would be quite intersted to see how it plays in a fragrance composition. I live in NC, USA.

  • Jewell Carter says:

Tempus Vitae Élixir De Vie Is intoxicatingly fresh, fragrant and fascinating. I find it to be amazing and truly original.

A true fan from the United States.

  • Very refreshing perfume with yuzu and pine. From Rachel’s review, I like that Tempus Vitae Élixir De Vie has incense smell without the heaviness, so perfect for spring and summer. Thanks for the review and draw. From continental USA.

  • Trinity33 says:

Elixir de Vie sounds like a cornucopia of bright citrus goodness. Yuzu, orange and grapefruit pair perfectly with white florals and gingery lemongrass. The pine and resinous elemi is an interesting choice. I usually see citrus blends with sandalwood or musk but I appreciate what Rachel calls the tonic quality of the composition. MD, USA.

  • Everything about Élixir de Vie screams bright. I find lemongrass overpowering, but here there seems to be competing notes that can match the energy from lemongrass. Tartness from grapefruit and the aroma of pine and elemi seem like a perfect combination for lemongrass. I hope this is a good performer for the summer since it’s an extrait.

    Cheers from Illinois, USA.

  • As an English teacher, I love the descriptive nature of this review! I love the note of yuzu- interested in smelling this!

  • Yay spring is here and Yuzu should be worn all spring. Been looking for another Yuzu to love since Issey Miyake RIP Yuzu Pour Homme.

Well said a fragrance that gives flat energy a burst. Something I need at times.

    Thanks from the USA

  • Wow, this sounds like the vacation i am looking for to help me throw off the winter blues! Vibrant, herbal, bright. I live in the (currenty very cold for spring) western United States.

  • Goodness this sounds lovely. A tonic for mind and body with yuzu and pine? Yes please! I own quite a few green fragrances, and love how invigorating they are. I’ve just ordered a sample set from their website, as I think I must smell this 🙂
    Kris from North Carolina, USA

  • “Incense without the weight” coupled with the tonic qualities make it sound great for Vegas! NV, USA.

  • I have to admit that this is the first time knowing about tahae brand Tempus Vitae, but from this article alone I can say it looks very promissing. I hope I get my nose on some of their fragrances soon.
Elixir De Vie seems like everything I am needing in a fragrance. I love that it is meant for summer and the warm weather. I love that it is heavy on citrus and has a balsamic heart.
I hope I win this one.

  • A beautifully-composed fragrance can certainly act as aromatherapy, and after a few gray, rainy days, I’m very intrigued by “an invigorating, restorative, and refreshing perfume that will give flat energy a burst.” Yuzu is such a sunny, attention grabbing note, and it sounds like a wonderful companion to lemongrass and elemi. Élixir De Vie’s pine accord also sounds terrific. I need to try more of Kyle Mott-Kannenberg’s work, starting with this release.

I’m in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Ooh it’s that time of year!! We pull out our citrus and tart green florals and I’m ready!! I love Yuzu and Elemi and grapefruit. And they are a bit tricky to work with but I’m sure this one is gorgeous because I trust ÇaFleureBon! I would love to try this!!

Always on the lookout for the perfect citrus. Thought I had it in Hadrian, but I’m still looking. This sounds like the chill cousin of Clinique Happy. I’d like to meet the chill cousin. I live in NY.

  • Michael Prince says:

What interests me about Tempus Vitae Élixir De Vie that it’s a Tonic, fresh, invigorating, and restorative fragrance for the warmer weather while still having an extrait concentration of perfume. I’ve seen the whole line of Tempus Vitae highlighted in Cafleurebon and would love to win this fragrance. I am from the USA.

  • Regis Monkton says:

I appreciate how Rachel described this one. I can truly enjoy yuzu in fragrances, e.g. in Issey Miyake’s “L’Eau D’Issey Pour Homme Intense” and more. I’m also interested to see what the mid-notes are like in this, i.e. the lemongrass and the elemi. Pine is, and always will be one of my favorite fragrance notes, and I’m intrigued to see what it’s like in this fragrance, especially when Rachel says “Aromatic and green, the pine accord masterfully created by Kyle Mott-Kannenberg holds on to the citrus freshness, elemi resins, and gorgeous tonic qualities that so brighten the rest of the fragrance.” I’m very intrigued to try this fragrance. I live in the U.S.A.

  • What I strikes me about (Tempus Vitae Élixir De Vie))) is its composition notes of lemongrass and elemi*. I don’t know if I ever smelled elemi before or a fragrance with lemongrass. Thanks for such an amazing giveaway! Greetings from the USA.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the neat review Rachel!

This is such an uplifting fragrance both in notes and execution, right from the citrus in the top to the use of pine and incense in the base.

    Truly a weekend elixir.

    Cheers from WI, USA

Yuzu sounds like to perfect note to create a relaxing and rejuvenating tonic, a tonic so welcome in this season of spring. The lemongrass and pine notes sound so bright and refreshing.
    I live in the USA.

  • I really enjoy citrus based fragrances, so this one definitely caught my eye. The mixture of yuzu and green notes sound incredible, and very versatile with the inclusion of woody notes. From TX, USA.

  • sephrenia300 says:

Very nice review Rachel! What strikes me about Tempus Vitae Élixir De Vie is how Rachel describes it as an invigorating and refreshing “tonic” that gives a burst of energy. I definitely agree with her that it sounds like the perfect type of fragrance for spring and the season of renewal, with it’s yuzu bright greenery and florals. I live in the US.

  • I enjoy both yuzu and pine in fragrances, but don’t recall one that includes the best of both worlds. This seems like a fun fragrance to check out this spring. I live in PA, USA.
