Ormonde Jayne Levant Review (Linda Pilkington) 2021+ En Plein Air Draw

Ormonde Jayne Levant

Ormonde Jayne Levant by Olya Bar

Ormonde Jayne’s perfumer and Creative Director Linda Pilkington’s work (Jayne is Linda’s middle name, while Ormonde is the street she lived on) has been taking an entire shelf in my perfume closet, and I find myself reaching for them quite often. Through different moods, different seasons, my love for the fragrances which debuted in 2002 continues to grow. To celebrate the brand’s 20th anniversary, Ormonde Jayne released a fragrance collection “Le Route De Soie,” inspired by the beauty and glory of the ancient Silk Route. Levant is one of the seven olfactive stories each with their own voice and personality. Levant sings in a lilting voice that gently rises and falls “en plein air.”

Ormonde Jayne Levant captivates your senses bringing to mind a day spent at a cottage by the sea. In the morning, the windows are flung open as the scent of delicate peonies and roses slowly fill the bedroom; the sun is rising and reflects off the dewdrops on the grass. Levant is an infusion of light into a gloomy day, uplifting and revitalizing with a boost of floral energy.

Many of the floral fragrances by Ormonde Jayne make me think of Impressionism art and the colorful splashes on the canvas. Up close, the notes are often sharp and unclear but pull away a bit, and the picture starts to becomes incredibly clear and captivating, leaving a lasting memory and a long delicate trail.  As I inhale Levant, the painting Le déjeuner: The Luncheon by Claude Monet comes to mind. An alfresco lunch in the middle of the garden depicts the first house in Argenteuil, Monet and his family lived. Levant conveys the feeling of a haven, a calm and tranquil morning among family. A garden is full of delicate flowers and citrus trees surrounding the dining table. There is a feeling of delight as if you were drinking rose-infused lemonade on a hot summer day.

Levant by Ormonde Jayne

To me, Levant is composed using a similar olfactive language as some of the earlier Ormonde Jayne fragrances (such as 2004’s Sampaguita, 2003 Frangipani and 2002 Champaca) painted using a soft, luminous color palette ingredients. There is a beautiful transparency woven through the entire composition as if it’s lit from within. A bright burst of citrus pulp quickly gives way to a bouquet of roses and peonies freshly picked from the garden. A jasmine tea note in the heart balances the sweetness of the flowers and brings the green freshness to the heart and a touch of pure lily of the valley on the bed of fresh cedar and warm musk. As I spend more time with Levant, it morphs from juicy and joyful to sensual and creamy. It finishes with the warmth of the musk on my skin, as if after spending all day outdoors I am finally resting on the bed of flower petals.  Wearing Levant, I feel hopeful and believe there are better days ahead. That is its magic.

Notes: Tangelo, Bergamot, Mandarin orange, Rose, Peony, Orange blossom, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Cedar, Musk, Amber.

I loved the comparison to Monet’s “The Luncheon”! Much like the reviewer described, I, too, would like to feel hopeful and like there are better days ahead.
I don’t currently have a favorite from this fragrance line, as I haven’t tried it yet.

The part that really spoke to me was “the feeling of a haven, a calm and tranquil morning among family.” I could definitely use more of that feeling in my life… I’ve only had the good fortune to try Sampaguita which I found lovely! I’m in California USA.

  • I enjoyed learning about where the brand name came from. I’ve always said that I would use my children’s combined middle names if I ever started my own company. My favorite fragrance from Ormonde Jayne is Vanille d’Iris. I’m in the USA.

  • Olya’s idea of Ormonde Jayne Levant perfume similar to a Claude Monet impressionistic painting was interesting, the way both painting and perfume can feel different when sensed from far and near. Of course, the promise of better days ahead, as Olya says she feels when wearing Ormonde Jayne Levant, means it is a happy, cheerful fragrance. No experience with Ormonde Jayne perfumes, yet. I am curious about Ormonde Jayne Levant and other six offerings in the Le Route de Soie collection. Thanks for the review and draw. From USA.

  • The mention of a rose infuse lemonade, and jasmine tea make me thurst for Levant. Olya gifted us also a beautiful, inspired by impressionist painting description. So far from Ormonde Jayne, I have only tried Privé and it’s now on my wish list. Thank you for the opportunity. From EU

This sounds like an aptly named perfume, Levant: citruses, florals, Jasmine tea with wood and musk all sound very uplifting. I have not tried any Ormonde Jayne fragrances but their Woman perfume has always interested me. Texas, US.

  • Olya! Thank you! What a wonderful review! ❤️ Linda Pilkington, Geza Schoen & their projects are fantastic! Wearing Ormonde Woman & Frangipani are joyful experiences! Speaking of joyful, Tanger is on my list to try soon! I can’t wait to try the entire Route de Soi line! I’ve actually visited & hiked parts of the Silk Road (places like Turfan & Urumiqi in Xinjiang, as well as much of the Tea Horse Road in Yunnan). Olya paints such an inviting & beautiful picture of a family dining alfresco in a garden. One can picture this in the Levant, in the privacy of a fragrant courtyard. The redolent cedar forests of Lebanon, the Jaffa orange, rose water, etc. of the Levant are captured here. I would so love to experience Ormonde Jayne Levant! ❤️ Thank you for the opportunity! USA

That was interesting where the name of the fragrance house came from. Light infused into a gloomy day is just what I need for those dreary summer mornings. I like the connection to the cottage by the sea. A fragrance that makes you feel like better days are ahead are just what I need now. I love this house, I own Vanille Iris and Ta’if. I bought one of the sampler sets (with the rose gold in it) and each of those were amazing especially Montabaco !! I’ve been curious about her new selection. Thanks for a great read. USA.

  • Olya took me back in time. The idea of Monet’s The luncheon.. The notes are perfect for Summertime or Spring. Interesting learning about the name of the brand. I have sampled Sampaguita. Levant sounds like a beautiful fragrance added to the Ormonde Jayne London. Thank you for this Chance. USA

  • Looks like Linda is fond of flowers and has paid to different species of flowers through her brand. I have not tried any from the floral line but I do own Nawab of Oud, Vanille d’Iris and Ormonde Jayne Woman from the brand. My fav. is Nawab of Oud though Vanille d’Iris is a close second. I am in US.

  • I have heard so much about Ormond Jayne but have yet to try the fragrances. I hope to remedy this soon! I love how Olya compares The fragrances to “Impressionism art and the colorful splashes on the canvas.” – Indiana, USA

The most what I enjoyed from Olya’s lovely review that “Levant is an infusion of light into a gloomy day, uplifting and revitalizing with a boost of floral energy”. Thank you for a chance, USA.

  • I like how Olya can use both visual support (the Monet painting) and description of feelings (“I feel hopeful and believe there are better days ahead”) to give us a feel to the fragrance. I’m going through some challenges right now, and “feeling hopeful and believing there are better days ahead” is definitively something I need! I live in Romania (EU), and unfortunately I haven’t tried any Ormonde Jayne fragrance yet. Thank you!

I loved Olya’s the reference to the painting, it really transferred me to the summer garden filled with smells and warmness. I would love to try this one. It seems so joyful but calm at the same time. I have never tried any of Ormonde Jayne perfumes but thank for introducing me to it!

Levant I’m sure is…. everything you don’t expect it tobe .Enigmatic , happy fragrances I appreciate . Green freshness, orange blossom, sensual rose and slight woody feel.
Obviously it clicked well with Olya Bar, feels like it will click with me too.
My personal favorite Ormonde Jayne fragrances are Taif , Ambre Royal and Tolu. It’s hard to pick one . Don’t have a full bottle yet, just samples of Ambre Royal and Tolu , and decant of Taif.
    Thank you all

I love this genre … My favorite part of this review by Olya is this picture “A garden is full of delicate flowers and citrus trees surrounding the dining table. There is a feeling of delight as if you were drinking rose-infused lemonade on a hot summer day.”

When I try to imagine what this smells like, I am thinking about California Reverie, Fleur Narcotique and Givenchy Eaudemoiselle. Maybe I am right, maybe not.

I am from Europe and my favorite offering from Ormonde Jayne is Vanille d’Iris. Thank you for the chance!

  • sephrenia300 says:

Another great review! What I enjoyed most about Olya’s review is how she compares this fragrance and many others by Ormonde Jayne to impressionist paintings – how the notes are often sharp and unclear up close, but give off a completely different effect from a little further away. This is a phenomenon I’ve definitely noticed in some other perfumes but have not been able to put in words, so I really enjoy this metaphor. I have also noticed this effect with more than just physical distance – sometimes, with a little time and upon reviewing my notes, I find myself much better able to appreciate a perfume’s full artistic vision than when I am caught up in the wearing it, when I might crave more of this note or for that note to be less fleeting.

I have only tried one Ormonde Jayne fragrance before, Ormonde Woman, but I absolutely adore it. An alluring green-chypre, not fresh per se, but woody and bright. I love the incredibly unusual black liquorish note from the hemlock resin’s heart of pine-and-smokey-spice, softened with the cool, powdery haughtiness of violets dusting the treetops. I am also very eager to try Ta’if, and I have a sample of Nawab of Oudh winging its way to me as we speak. I live in the US.

Hi! I LOVE how olya makes the relation between this new fragrance and other Ormonde Jane fregrances launched before like Frangipani or sampaguita.

I have tried only 2 fragrances from this brand: Vanille d’iris and ormode Jane and I really LOVE Vanille d’iris.

    Greatings from Tenerife, Spain!

  • Olya’s analogy to Monet’s “Photo of the Luncheon” brought the scent right to my mind. Spacious, gracious, that easy afternoon when it isn’t too hot feeling. This sounds lovely! I have not tried any Ormonde Jayne perfumes, but I would very much like to! The whole silk road series is intriguing. I am in the US.

  • Levant sounds gorgeous in Olya’s description.
Happy and uplifting, like a sip of a fresh drink on a hot summer day, surrounded by flowers and greens in a dewy garden. Sounds like it would wipe away all the cares in the world.
I live in the EU and have tried Tiare and Orris Noir by OJ. Loved them both.

  • joshuabrian says:

Nice review, it sounds like it would smell amazing coming off of your skin. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the house! Would love to try. From USA.

  • I loved Olya’s interpretation of the fragrance through the lens of Impressionism. So creative and thoughtful! I have a few fragrances that I think I see through that lens as well, but never realized until I read this review. I have tried only Ormonde Jayne fragrance—Ormonde Man. In fact, I tried it just two days ago! It was good but I had a difficulty smelling it. I think I may not be sensitive to a few of the ingredients. Cheers from NC, USA.

  • flosolentia says:

What an excellent review Olya wrote! I imagined a fragrant swirl of spring flowers and creamy musk. Spring is my favorite season, so this fragrance, judging by the description, takes away in early spring. And I also admire the comparison of this perfume with the paintings of the impressionists, it seems to me that the picture The Luncheon by Claude Monet suits Levant brilliantly!

    I am from the UK

  • Have haven’t had the pleasure of trying an Ormand Jane scent yet. I love the reference to artwork as I am a visual artist. In maryland

  • Ormonde Jayne fragrances are all so lovely, and this one sounds like no exception! It sounds like such an uplifting and happy scent. The musk drydown sounds so soft and comforting.

I am a very visual person. Levant conveys the feeling of a haven, a calm and tranquil morning among family. A garden is full of delicate flowers and citrus trees surrounding the dining table. Thank you Oyla (and Michelyn) for my daydream 🙂

In closing, This fragrance captures many of my favorite notes: citrus, rose, jasmine, lily of the valley, and amber. A must try fragrance for me. Again, thank you

I emjoyed Olya’s connecting Levant to impressionist art and connecting it to the idea that each note will make one impression by itself but a different one when perceived in unison. I don’t know Ormonde Jayne fragrances, except by reputation, which is a good one. I am in the US in North Carolina.

  • Thanks Olya for this wonderful review! I’ve always enjoyed your video reviews, but I LOVE your articles! Thank you!

My partner got herself the La Route de Soie discovery set last year and I can see that the Levant, Xian and Byzance samples have been used up already. I have to admit that I don’t know when she wore Levant, but she always smells lovely when she wears Ormond Jayne.

I would LOVE to surprise her with a bottle of Levant.
Her favorite fragrances are fruity with white flowers and this must be the reason the sample went this quickly.

    Greetings from the UK!

  • Thank you Olya for the review and Europerfumes for the kind draw. I liked the description of Levant as an infusion of light into a gloomy day and it sounds perfect for the times we’re still in. My favorite from Ormond Jayne so far is Ormond Man. I’m in USA

  • I enjoyed how Olya conveyed the luminous qualities of Levant. I live in the United States. My favorite Ormonde Jayne scent is Woman.

  • “Ormonde Jayne Levant captivates your senses bringing to mind a day spent at a cottage by the sea. In the morning”

With all the nerves, stress and issues I had last 2 weeks , negative emotions trying to gain total control over me .
With Levant citrus pulp , bouquet of roses , cedar and musc, tranquility and genuine positive energy will come after all .
I may not have a shelf of Ormonde Jayne fragrances like Olya, but I have Tolu , my favorite , such a luxurious scent. Everyone should if not own it , at least smell it.

  • As someone who frequently associates perfumes with particular paintings or schools of painting, this review speaks my language. This scent sounds beautifully bucolic. I’ve never had the opportunity to try an Ormonde Jayne fragrance thought it’s long been on my to-try list. I’m in the US.

  • Claumarchini says:

I have never tried any of Ormond Jayne’s creations and I would love to start with Levant! First of all, congratulations on the 20 years milestone, I have read only great reviews about this brand, and Olya’s comparison between Levant and Impressionism is really interesting and captures I think the mastery of the perfumer: making sense of an array of different notes, that – when you read them closely – you wonder how they are going to interact together; then if you look at them from a distance, make perfect sense and create a wonderful picture. Greetings from Italy

  • This brought me back beautiful memories of a trip I had a few years back to the sea, on the mediterranean coast: Ormonde Jayne Levant captivates your senses bringing to mind a day spent at a cottage by the sea. In the morning, the windows are flung open as the scent of delicate peonies and roses slowly fill the bedroom; the sun is rising and reflects off the dewdrops on the grass. Levant is an infusion of light into a gloomy day, uplifting and revitalizing with a boost of floral energy.

Really evocative! Thank you for the draw! I am based in the EU

I have to say I really like Olya review of Levant.
Her take reminded me of making, and eating somewhere on the outside Mandarin Orange Cake with Vanilla Cream Frosting i do twice a week at my bakery. Of course Citrus Glaze on top of it is a must.
I don’t know The Luncheon by Claude Monet , and what was the meaning of luncheon back in 1873 , but judging by the painting i have to say the meaning is different now. Alfresco lunch in a middle of a garden? Nice , Olya took the words right out of my mouth
To me Ormonde Jayne almost equals Ta’if Elixir. I was blown away by the smell of a client in my bakery , how i found about it. Smells very, and I mean very similar to a traditional Persian cake with rose, cardamom, saffron, almonds , orange water and dates. It’s called Persian Pavlova cake, but more people know it as Persian Love Cake.
Once I finish the bottle, I’ll immediately buy another one.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign.

I enjoyed reading Olya’s review, especially the association of Impressionist art with Ormonde Jayne fragrances. I have tried Man and Ambre Royale from Ormonde Jayne, and I also had an impressionist reaction , one where the individual notes become clear– and indeed, a whole story– when we step back and admire the notes in the scent trail and in the dry down. What amazing dry-downs with Man and Ambre Royale! I am intrigued by the tangelo and jasmine tea notes in Levant.

  • Until now I only sampled Ormonde Woman and Vanille d Iris, but sadly they did not suit me, although they were good scents.

The bigger 120ml bottle is back in my collection 🙂

  • It is very desirable to wear a fragrance resembling as mood to Le Dejeuner by Claude Monet, i’m curious about Ormonde Jayne Levant. From Romania with love!

  • Lavant sounds like a beautifully blended fragrance. Just like the paintings above, no rough edges. I love a jasmine tea note as well. It always adds a light, powdery green scent to a floral fragrance. I don’t own any Ormande Jayne fragrances but I have sampled Osmanthus which was an elegant watery floral. Very nice. I would love to win Lavant. In the USA.

Reading reviews on Cafleurebon is so addictive , and also dangerous if you’re not careful.
Blind bought Ormonde Jayne Royal Elixir, because Dana Sandu Cafleurebon contribution. Honestly I absolutely love it, but the smell is nothing like I imagined it to be . I remember there was Mongolian people laying on ice , and some connection with traditional songs. The smell to me has nothing to do with all above, it’s not cold, but so alive , touching with strong Caribbean or Brazilian vibe , with happy people dancing salsa.
I’m not blaming Dana Sandu of course, but myself ONLY.Next time when I’m excited from review on Cafleurebon, I’ll make sure to sample the fragrance first .
Like I said I enjoy Royal Elixir a lot, but blind buying fragrances is like a Russian roulette.
Levant I’ll try , I wonder what I’ll get from it,
    appealing bottle of happiness maybe?
I have a feeling it will remind me of sunny , happy , and a bit warm spring , and early summer days .

Linda Pilkington I’m a fan of for a long time.
The whole La Route de Soie line I’ve not smelled yet, so I can’t share my thoughts , like I usually do.
I so wish I had a week, or a few days to kill , at a quiet cottage by the sea.
Judging by Olya Bar review , Levant is moody fragrance, with juicy opening , rose and cedar. I almost felt the green sap from walking barefooted in the cottage garden.
Proud of owning Frangipani Made to Measure in 50% concentration in a beautiful engraved custom bottle , and i feel like i own bespoke perfume.Pure parfum versions were called Made to Measure , but I believe they are no longer available , so I’ll cherish my bottle even more
Thank you Linda Pilkington ,CaFleurebon and Europerfumes for the giveaway , and of course Olya for the nice , cottage by the sea review.
    All profiles I already follow
    USA only…for now
