Jeroboam UNUE via instagram
Since ÇaFleureBon first began reviewing the brand, a number of readers have emailed me and asked what does “Jeroboam” mean? I was snooping around the Jovoy booth at Esxence 2015 (when the flacon was still a prototype) and learned from Francois Henin that Jeroboam is derived from Esperanto, (created as a global language in the late 1880s; think of it like you would Star Trek’s Universal Translator). UNUE means “the first” in Esperanto. I wrote to founder François Hénin in preparation for Sebastian’s review and asked him to share his insights into Jeroboam UNUE.
“When we launched the Jeroboam brand, a department store in London took a chance and stocked it…. and this is where the success story started for us. We had been working hard with Vanina Murraciole to make UNUE a total worldwide exclusive for Selfridges London I don’t even know when I will be allowed to have it the Jovoy stores 🙂 This is the first time ever did an exclusive with a department store and thanks to the complicity and professionalism of the buying team, we chose the color, the name, the fragrance with them and now despite the Covid, Selfridges has launched Jeroboam Unue a few days, weeks ago. But it is not because we are at Harrods, Harvey Nichols …. that we forget our first love with Selfridges, so we are very proud to launch Jeroboam Unue , worldwide exclusive only to them.

About Jeroboam UNUE, it is of course an extrait like all Jeroboam perfumes, and the goal was to make a newer version of Origino but much more sensual and warm. Now, of course, if you compare Origino to UNUE you will get the perfumer’s intention right away. One is rather cold and somehow woody, clean and a bit salty and UNUE is warm, slightly mouthwatering by comparison and sensual.” – François Hénin, Owner of Jovoy Paris Parfums Rares, creative director for Jovoy Paris fragrances and Jeroboam extraits.

In June 2020, Editor Sebastian Jara reviewed Gozo, and today he reviews Jeroboam UNUE. The bottle is white; again a departure form the brand’s signature black. Editor’s note: Thank you to Francois for affording our readers and viewers this opportunity.
