Fragrance boutique owner and creative director for Perfumology, Nir Guy, has been composing a perfumed love letter to his wife, Lyssa for over a year.  In February 2017, Nir, in collaboration with Justin Frederico, perfumer for PBL labs, introduced the new Perfumology Blyss fragrance, a scent that is at once "Fun and exciting, versatile, and down to earth…" much like Nir Guy's description of the woman who inspired the fragrance.

Nir Guy's Perfumology boutique is located at 690 W. Dekalb Pike, King of Prussia, Pennsylvania and online at https://www.perfumologyshop.com/. Perfumology carries a great selection of fragrance brands, from around the world, including 4160 Tuesdays, Zoologist, Imaginary Authors and Parfums de Lubin, (to name but a few). Nir Guy's knowledge of some of the most beloved fragrances in the world contributed to his fragrant vision of the ideal perfume to honor his wife -a perfume that recalls not only a love letter but also a romantic evening complete with sweet wine and roses.

My first breath of Blyss is reminiscent of a late harvest dessert Sauvignon Blanc or perhaps a fine Chateau d’Yquem Sauterne with rich fruity esters, honeysuckle, green apples, exotic tropical fruits and the slightest hint of grass and crisp, stony flint. This initial impression quickly blossoms into a lively, green vanillac amber with hint of coconut, similar to the scent that pervades a barrel room where Sauvignon Blanc is maturing in quality American white oak casks.

The zesty fruit, the vanilla effect and a bouquet of ylang-ylang and jasmine remain somewhat green for about thirty minutes until a distinct aura of oranges, roses and plums begins to suffuse my skin. The luscious heart of Blyss stays in place for at least six hours before beginning an approximate two hour dry down to a skin scent of ethereal orris and a fleeting suggestion of the original sweet, crisp wine, laced with vanilla and honey.

Blyss is a fragrance that defies the stereotype of the much maligned  "fruity floral" (what do those words mean anyway?).

And like the aromas and flavors of the best Sauternes and late harvest sweet white wines, the fruits and flowers of Perfumology Blyss create a structure and a complexity that are at once intriguing, comforting and seductive – an unforgettable toast to tenderness, a passionate love letter in scent.

Notes:  Italian orange, white plum, green apple, Bulgarian rose, ylang-ylang, jasmine, orris, amber and patchouli.

Disclaimer:  I would like to thank Nir Guy and Perfumology for the samples and the bottle of Blyss. My opinions are my own.

It is a gift from Nir to Lyssa so I believed he made sure he got the perfume Blyss right. I guess Blyss spelling is derived from Lyssa because Lyssa sounds like Lisa and Blyss sounds like Bliss. It is also an unusual fruity floral as Gail notices. I cannot answer the question related to wine because I don’t drink alcohol 🙂 I am in the US.

  • Yum! What a wonderful tribute to his wife! Blyss sounds perfect. This line from the review attracted me the most: rich fruity esters, honeysuckle, green apples, exotic tropical fruits and the slightest hint of grass and crisp, stony flint.” I love Pinot Grigio wines the best. I live in the US.

  • DNEM, and what a wonderful review Gail that perfectly captures this terrific perfume and the love and devotion of Nir and Lyssa!❤️❤️❤️

What a romantic story of the composition of this perfume by Nir Guy for and inspired by his wife Lyssa. I think it’s great that he would work with Justin Frederico to create a fragrance that would fit his vision of the first perfume for his brand. He certainly carries great niche fragrances at the Perfumology store.

As far as favorite dessert wines go, you had me at the mention of Chateau d’Yquem Sauterne. That is indeed my absolute favorite dessert wine, which I fell in love with the first time I tasted it, and quite possibly the only Robert Parker wine rated 100 that I have ever tasted.

So if this fragrance smells anything like the Sauterne I once tasted and fell in love with, I would certainly love to experience Blyss as well and see how lovely it smells, especially on my wife.

Oh, to have a perfume made for me…with me as the inspiration! How romantic and what a tribute. I’ve just got to smell this. I don’t drink wine but if I did, I probably would like a sweet one, like I like my perfumes! I am in the US.

How lovely to have a fragrance which ultimately describes your spouse. How very romantic. I love a beautiful golden mead dessert wine. Yummy. Thanks so much for the draw. I live in the USA

  • Fragrance sounds Great. New to this
Haven’t tried anything. It’ll be great to get a chance
    Thanks

  • “Intriguing, comforting, and seductive” are exactly what I’m looking for in a perfume. I like my wine a little on the sweet side, and I love a good fruity floral. Just a few days ago I tried Sekt for the first time, a delightful German sparkling wine made from Riesling grapes, so let’s call that my favorite of the moment. I’m in the US (California).

  • Lovely!! The notes sound perfect for a fruity floral!

I’m not much of a drinker of any sort but when I do have wine, it needs to be a bit sweet. So I tend to lean towards a Reisling-style wine.

  • Very interesting review. I like that part when this perfume’s start recalls Gail “a late harvest dessert Sauvignon Blanc or perhaps a fine Chateau d’Yquem Sauterne with rich fruity esters,…”.
My favorite white wine is armenian Karas.

  • What appeals to me the most about the review is the unique description of this fruity/floral and how it is reminiscent of wine. My favorite white wine is Pinot Noir. I’m in the US. Thank you so much.

The aura of oranges, roses and plums sounds delicious. I have only recently begun to experiment with fruity floral fragrances (too long trapped in a leather dungeon). I like the optimism of this type of fragrance. I’m not much of a drinker, but I do like the occasional port or sherry.

What a beautiful love story. I like that it is a long lasting fragrance, fits their love story perfectly. I don’t know why “fruity floral” isn’t more appreciated. I guess some people think of a certain line that is in all the malls and popular with teenagers. As for wine…if it tastes good, I drink it. I am not very knowledgable about wine. Tonite I was drinking a tasty white sangria since it was 90 degrees here. Thanks for the nice article.

I am in the US. I like this review, Gail really takes us on a tour of wine and a winery through the descriptions. You know, I don’t like the smell of actual wine, but I love fragrances that have that wine like depth that is described here. This sounds like an awesome “fruity floral.” I don’t actually drink wine at all…but I love all grape juice :p

  • Love the idea of wine & perfume (2 of my favorite things). I also love when a fragrance is created for or inspired by a loved one. You know so much heart has gone into it which makes it extra special. Blyss is also a great name 🙂 I absolutely love Sancerre and any of the wonderful Loire wines. I’m in the US and registered and would love to try this one. thank you for the great article and opportunity.

  • This is such a sweet and meaningful gesture! The quote on the Perfumology website “You impress me in new ways every day” makes me want to melt 🙂 I personally love fruity-floral fragrances. They come across happy and upbeat (blissful, even!), with a springy vibe. It’s nice to see this type of fragrance made with meaning behind it, rather than a jumble of notes thrown together in the latest celeb perfume. Also love the weaving of wine undertones that Gail describes throughout the wear of Blyss. It seems subtle but unique enough to set it apart from similar fragrances. As for wines, I’m always up for a sweet riesling. In the US!

  • I love the description of the dessert wine notes. Sounds really lucious. I can’t think of a better gift than having your beloved create a perfume for you! I a m in the US. Thanks for the info.
