Lady Dacre 1633, Sir Anthony Van Dyck
In the bounteous beauty of an overfilled Rose bowl, how the subtle variations delight me, I want all, sweet demure roses of innocence and purity juxtaposed with blousy, overblown damsels whose caution is flung to the wind, to the downright intoxicating, decadence of spicy, rich and opulent roses of deep hues that herald an addiction. I must I admit veer towards the decadent and mysterious, the deeply emotive and aesthetically strident roses for Valentine’s Day.
Atelier Des Ors Rose Omeyyade 2015, (Marie Salamagne): I come back to the stunning creation, Atelier Des Ors Rose Omeyyade, from time after time, when I wish to be enticed and led astray. Its initial welcome is a little deceiving in a delightful mischievous way, bright and coy, the Rose Buds and Pepper, enveloped in a cloak of Raspberry, with a light sweet attribute. It is the sweet innocence that beguiles with alluring fingers that take me off on an adventure. For the progression is more delicious in the plunge ‘down the rabbit-hole’. I revel in the secretiveness and the divulgence of Atelier Des Ors Rose Omeyyade intimate core. The Patchouli and Gaiac smooth over the Sucre d’Amore and render a far more ‘adult ‘tone as the base of exotic Woods and Amber ooze with a charm that is all seduction and the shocking realisation that the underskirts of this modest sweetness is all layered temptation and fascinating magnetism.

CuiroNoir Purotu Rose 2018 (Tiffany Jeans): I fell head over heels with Curionoir Purotu Rose from first inhale, not only for its intense olfactory offering but for the interwoven inspiration that exudes like the airs from rain- soaked petals, awash with tears. Tiffany’s Maori heritage is foundational to her creations and when I sat in her curious and inviting studio listening to the story, I was transfixed. It is risen from the moments captured at her Grandfathers Tangi, the roses flanking the entrance, their lives represented, all buds, all full and all blown, enveloped with the scent of newly dug earth and smoky vapours from the feast pit. So much more than a eulogisement, the Rose Otto and Rose de Mai, intense and enveloping, emanate deep beauty in a most pure, melancholic, motionlessness that stills and is an unadulterated emotion. I am touched always by its clarity and resonance, swathed in profound Orange, Cumin and Pepper, aromatics that elevate the Rose to higher estate. Vetiver and Wood retain an earthly connection, with Purotu Rose’s inception whilst the Rose surges in poignancy and exhibits a Beauty untainted.

Ermano’s Vero Profumo Rozy Extrait©
Vero Profumo Rozy Extrait (Vero Kern) 2014: Vero Kern’s love for Italy was no mystery and for a dramatic rose Vero took her inspiration from stunning Anna Magnani in The Rose Tattoo. Larger than life charisma and earthy simmering sensuality, Magnani comes alive rendered in Rozy parfum to a blooming rose with an animalic honey coating that glows in spectacular hues like a coral dusk blurred by purple clouds. Its make-up powdery trail cannot hide the wrinkles of neorealism, ending up in an even more breathtaking final cut. Notes: Rose, tuberose, blackcurrant, honey, spices, sandalwood, labdanum. Are there other roses for Valentine’s Day? Not for me.
Very limited supply, cherish if you own it
