Xerjoff Ouverture Review (Chris Maurice) + Cinnamon Velvet Draw

Xerjoff Ouverture Sospiro

Listen to the echoing whistle and slow build of strings and percussion before the curtain rises on West Side Story. The sweeping lyricism of Maurice Jarre’s stirring opening to Lawrence of Arabia or the galloping fanfare that begins Bizet’s Carmen. These great overtures act as prologues, instilling the story’s major themes before anything ever happens. In perfumery, the overture might typically be thought of as the top notes, which set the stage for the unfolding of a fragrance’s olfactory trajectory and introduce fragrance harmonies that will reappear to underscore key moments. In Xerjoff’s Ouverture, indeed, the opening notes loop in and out of the central aromas of orange, cinnamon and sandalwood like a recurring olfactory theme as the mise-en-scene unfolds.

Part of the brand’s V series (formerly Sospiro), which celebrates velvet, Ouverture recalls the fabric’s sumptuousness, summoning a theatre of a certain era – heavy fringed curtains, plush seats, quietly shimmering evening gowns – with a rich, thick haze of warm spice, lush flowers, sandalwood and incense. Ouverture is a markedly warm fragrance. The bold opening brings a dizzying rush of juicy orange, russet cinnamon and fig leaf. The orange takes the reins, its sweetness initially splashy but simmering down to a more candied mellowness within a few minutes. The orange-cinnamon combination gives Ouverture an immediate ruddy quality – like red hots dissolving in simmering orange syrup. Fig leaf adds a wallop of young, green fruit, which balances out the sweetness, and the whole lot bubbles away happily for a time.

Ouverture Xerjoff

In the next movement, the tempo slows and the temperature cools as flowers twirl around the fruit and spice like gauzy ballerina tulle. Shameless banana fruit ylang jetes in, grins, and plants a big smooch on the fruit and spice. Rather more quietly, lipstick and satin from the rose begin melding with the cinnamon (a synergy also found in Delrae’s exquisite Bois de Paradis by Michel Roudnitska). A big dollop of vanilla and amber stir in, adding some creamy thickness to the perfume’s texture, and I can smell some night-blooming-style jasmine. Xerjoff Ouverture smells like a distant relative of Shalimar at this juncture although less overtly vanillic-balsamic. But its kinship with those 20s opulent, amber-centric perfumes is apparent. But before Ouverture has you thinking it is also retro glam, a bitter cedary-marine note weaves in that has me thinking there might be a touch of ambroxan here. Its effect is to undercut the richness of the composition, make it feel more modern and even a bit masculine. Sandalwood is the star, though, as woods take over in the third movement, joined by some joss stick incense.

The dry-down, when it eventually comes, brings everyone together for the finale. First out for applause are jasmine, amber, and that cedar-amboxan note. Next are supporting players rose, ylang, vanilla and incense. Xerjoff Ouverture ends with its star notes stepping out from behind the velvet curtains to take their bows, the shouts of “brava” and whistles resounding for cinnamon, orange and sandalwood. If you want something extravagant but cozy and wearable, Xerjoff Ouverture is like attending a night at the opera in your favourite jammies.

Notes: Orange, fig leaf, magnolia, Indian jasmine, Bulgarian rose, cinnamon, ylang-ylang, sandalwood, vanilla, amber, cashmere wood, incense.

  • I’ve smelled a bunch of Xerjoff lately, but not this one. Cruz Del Sur II is next on my list (which I wish came in 100ml). Note progression works for fragrance and music. That’s a cool juxtaposition. My favorite part is always the crescendo. I guess in fragrance that would be the heart. Orange and cinnamon are a time tested combo, the only thing I’d add is maybe some castoreum for texture (ie. the velvet). I think of velvet as having a resistance in that its smoothness depends on how lightly you touch it, but in a firm grasp it’s not so pleasant.

    Posting from PA, US.

  • I love Bois de Paradis so comparisons to that really intrigue me about Xerjoff Ouverture. Overture seems like a fruity floral composition that ends on a woody note. It is a crowd-pleaser and appropriate for all year wear. Velvet may smell to me like creamy musk. I am in USA.

  • This is the second review of Ouverture I’ve seen in two days. Both were glowing. Sandlewood is my weakness so sign me up! Nio or Fiero is my current favourite but that will change next week. Velvet smells rich, smooth, and decadent. Thank you Eden Square for the opportunity.

  • Lauryn, thank you for this wonderful review!
I think this was a perfect simile for this fragrance, it sounds so enamoring and well textured. Red hots is simmering orange syrup, plus fresh green fig – oddly enough I can smell that in my head and it smells marvelous. Also I’ll be singing “L’amour est enfant de bohème la la la la la la…” – Les Parapluies de Cherbourg style all night now haha

I’ve only smelled 1861 Naxos from Xerjoff (That I can recall, but that’s not saying much for my memory, their fragrances are top-notch).

Velvet to me is a very textured note, it kind of tickles your nose, it’s got an air of ozone about it, static electricity. It’s also powdery to me.

Thank you to Eden Square/Euro Perfumes for the draw!

  • What a lovely review of a Xerjoff I never smelled! Did not know the Sospiro line was formerly V for velvet. I enjoyed all the musical and dance references, the comparison to Shalimar and the photos were gorgeous.
Thank you Eden Square and my favorite Xerjoff is Lira

Ohhhhh…if there was one Xerjoff that I really wanted to try it’s Ouverture. This is a combination of my favorite noteeees. I love figs, jasmine, sandalwood, cinnamon, amber and incense of course! I really find Lauryn’s review amazing and I also love the parallel with stage curtains, ballet and theatre with photos. I really don’t know if I like the opening, middle or dry down of this perfume more. This one got me excited! I don’t have a favorite Xerjoff yet and due to their price I must admit I wasn’t very interested in getting one any time soon. But this one…this one I have to smell! I’m from Illinois, US.

  • Red hots disappearing into an orangie syrup sound mouth watering and unique with the velvety accord. I do not have a favorite Xerjoff yet.

The way I would picture velvet to smell, would be a very soft leather note with a bit of lavender.

    Best from NY

  • Xerjoff’s Ouverture sounds like an opulent fragrance with the focus on warm notes like cinnamon, citrus and sandalwood. Bois de Paradis is one of my favorite perfumes, so it’s comparison to Ouverture is interesting. I’m a fan of the rose, lipstick, spice melange so I would love to sniff this. The cedar ambroxan finish brings it altogether. Favorite Xerjoff is Dolce Amalfi. Commenting from MD, USA.

  • Most of the time it doesn’t enter my mind that I played the cello when I was young. But Lauryn’s beautiful description of the orange and russet tones of Overture sent my memory back to the color of my instrument, and the sound that it made in harmony with the rest of my orchestra. Lovely. Overture sounds like a beautiful fragrance, I especially love orange, jasmine, vanilla and incense in perfumes. Thank you from the US.

  • KMBfragrance says:

I love the way this review weaves the musical stages together with the fragrance’s evolution. The fragrance sounds decadent and cozy with enough citrus and spice to be interesting as well. I haven’t yet tried any Xerjoff fragrances, but have been interested to try Accento Overdose. To me, velvet would smell rich, decadent, and dignified.

  • I enjoyed reading about Xerjoff Ouverture being compared to an opera. The notes of cinnamon and incense sound wonderful. I do enjoy Xerjoff 1888. Velvet, to me, would smell soft, like a cashmere sweater. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff! Mich USA

  • Loved this review! This sounds like a very special fragrance and I love the idea of wearing something in my sweats or jammies to feel fancy at the same time. I really like your description of like Shalimar but with added modern touches, the amber with the cedar/marine/ambroxan sounds so interesting! Gorgeous presentation as well. I’ve only tried Lira so far and love it, have samples of 1888 and Italica on the way, would love to discover more from Xerjoff. Thanks for this beautiful article!

  • Good god that review made it sound like heaven in a bottle. All my favorite notes wrapped into one amalgamation. You had me at cinnamon and sandalwood. Sounds absolutely glorious! My favorite Xerjoff is Golden Dallah. I’m in the US. Cheers.

  • NikkoNikko says:

I’ve been slowly sampling Xerjoff, but as of now I don’t think I’ve found the right scent for me just yet. I have yet to try this genre of scent from this house and it sounds great. I am a big fan of sandalwood and cinnamon and am very curious to see how they are used here. I absolutely love the article and how it’s laid out as a symphony, lovely writing. As for the smell of velvet, in my mind it would be a combination of slight powdery notes, white musk and a bit of pink pepper for texture. But that’s smelling with my imagination, not my nose haha. From Idaho, USA

  • Wow, Ouverture sounds lovely. The way the review was structured in Acts kind of made it more clear to me, a bit easier to understand perhaps. I’m a big fan of many of these notes and it sounds like they are put together cleverly in this composition. The image of attending the opera in your PJs is a great one and the sort of feeling I tend to very much enjoy in a fragrance. I can’t say I have a favorite Xerjoff but enjoy a number quite a bit. Some I enjoy are Mefisto, Naxos, Nio, Kobe, Alexandria II, Erba Pura and Uden Overdose. Thanks for the generous draw, from CT, USA.

  • Orange, cinnamon and sandalwood… What’s not to love? I feel like I want to roll around in a field of this combo, all warm, cocooning and enveloping — just like velvet itself. I’m discovering much from this house and right now am drawn to Dolce Amalfi, but I have enjoyed every one I’ve tried. Thank you for the drawing! From Chicago, IL

  • twiggy3634 says:

What Lauryn says that is appealing to me is the opening having a quality of red hots in orange syrup. Sounds quite unique! My favorite Xerjoff is Nio. When I hear velvet, I think of something smooth and creamy, maybe some sandalwood and amber with a touch of vanilla. Cheers from Indiana USA

  • Never smelled Ouverture ,but Lauryn review was captivating. Fragrance with a caracter, that has a lot of layers, fruity, floral and ambery .Something to be expected of a Xerjoff fragrance.
Naxos was my favorite Xerjoff for a long, long time, but after sampling La Capitale early December , I now have a new favorite.
Velvet to me smells like a dark maroon rose

  • Mmmm this sounds heavenly! I love amber and vanilla so I would imagine I’d love this. The smell of velvet? Depends on the color, of course! This fragrance’s notes would be in my list for sure. Tom Ford Noir de Noir is my imagination’ s idea of red velvet.

    I’m in Maine, USA.

  • What a comparison Lauryn!!! This article makes me want to spray some on and have a night at some sort of cultural theatre with the plush red curtains. Loved the last paragraph about the finale. The notes seem so lovely, especially I am interested in the incense and fig leaf. Xerjoff is above average that is for sure. There are many I love from this line, Golden Dallah and Naxos. From the Casamorati line it’s Lira, 1888, and Dolce Amalfi and I’m considering blind buying the 30 ml of Italica. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • I am a registered user from the US.
Overture sounds fantastic because of the magnolia, spice and incense notes and because of the analogy to a classical musical piece in which each motif has its moment but are also ultumately united.
My other favorite would be Lunosa.

  • Thanks for interesting review! I have tried Overture one time and do not remember, but creamy thickness of amber and vanilla, night-blooming jasmine, marine notes and ambroxan sound opulent.
Xerjoff is my favorite niche brand, I love especially Alexandria 2.

  • Was drawn in by the descriptive statements regarding the opening and the orange, cinnamon and fig notes. No favorite from the house. US

  • For me, this line in Lauryn Beer’s review summed up what Xerjoff Ouverture is about: “If you want something extravagant but cozy and wearable, Xerjoff Ouverture is like attending a night at the opera in your favourite jammies.” Lovely notes, and Lauryn did an awesome job describing how they fold over time. Never tried anything by Xerjoff, yet, but want to because of this house’s reputation for making top-notch perfumes. Velvet to me smells soft, clean, with a bluish, purplish fragrance. Vague description that only makes sense to me, I am afraid. Thanks for the review and generous draw. Writing from the USA.

  • What appeals to me about Xerjoff Ouverture based on Lauryn’s review?
This has been on my mind to try for some time- that whole red hots dissolving in simmering orange syrup thing sounds positively delightful! So far, my favorite that I have tried from Xerjoff is corallo.
Thanks for the giveaway! Commenting from NY.

  • This fragrance sounds like a symphony with a ballet of notes dancing a figure 8, delighting the senses. This offering sounds amazing. My favorite Xerjoff scent is Naxos. I live in Indiana USA

  • I smelled some Xerjoff recently, probably like 1888 and Golden Dallah little bit more. Never tried Ouverture and like to try. From CT, US

  • A well known house is the start for drawing men in. Then right there first note to bring you in is cinnamon. I have yet to find a fragrance with cinnamon I don’t like. Cinnamon is so inviting, comforting, and soothing. Throw in orange and the first thing comes to mind is a nice winter concoction. Jasmine and Bulgarian rose start the florals, but magnolia really is a heavy hitter in my opinion. Ylang Ylang is another bright citrus. Then sandalwood, vanilla, amber, cashmere wood, & incense just makes you want to say “seductive warmth”. All in all this sound like a high end cocktail keep your attention and letting you know some thing are just on another level. Velvet has never given off a smell to me , it is more of a texture of smoothness. I personally have been missing out on Xerjoff. Would definitely like to experience this house. Thanks for the opportunity to be lucky enough to try Xerjoff Ouverture.

  • I know a few previously Sospiro fragrances, now back in Xerjoff, but not Ouverture .
Lauryn take reminded me of making, and eating Spiced Orange Walnut Cake , with fresh Figs and cinnamon Cake . I imagine eating it , while surrounded with rose , and jasmine.
The best Xerjoff , and one of the best gourmands ever is called Italica.Smells almost identical to traditional Toffee Almond Cake , famous Italian cake. I’m 100% sure the cake is the inspiration behind Italica.
How does velvet smell to me ? Like Red Velvet Cake of course 🙂
Appreciate Lauryn review, and the giveaway campaign

  • I love it. It sounds divine and I want it. Thanks you Lauryn for such a great review and many thanks to Eden Square/Euro Perfumes for making this draw possible. I’m in the USA

  • This really conjures a fantasy of a rarefied world and moment. It’s sort of like being a kid and hearing a story about a night in a faraway place and time. It sounds like this combines a lot of lovely notes in a way I don’t think I’ve experienced before. I haven’t tried any Xerjoff yet. The smell of velvet: maybe like an extravagant luxury European Christmas. (Southern California)

  • Thanks Lauryn for this review!
I love sandalwood and with vanilla, jasmin, amber it will be very beautiful! And I am glad that as Lauryn said with this sweet notes this perfume can wear man too.
    I love Mefisto very much.

It remind you of Arabia in glory days as it was so great, put orange with couple of mix of cinnamon and sandalwood you get great smells perfect for formal out wear. I love to test it , it most be my favorite Xerjoff. I am in CA USA.

  • It is fascinating how the notes will unfold during the wearing of the fragrances, ending with an overture of the main players as noted by the reviewer. My favorite form the house of Xerjoff is Nio. Velvet, to me, smells lush and comforting with a certain elevated calmness. Thanks for the generous giveaway. KY, USA.

  • ncwvenus21 says:

The dry down sounds amazing, I’ve been trying to almost always go by that to determine if I’ll like something. I have not tried any Xerjoff yet! I think of Velvet as smooth and cozy

  • vickalicious says:

Wow, this sounds like a beautiful fragrance! I’m not very familiar with Xerjojj fragrances, only having tried two, so I don’t have a favorite yet. I really enjoyed Lauryn’s review, and how she tied the name of the fragrance into a musical overture. I find it interesting how she mentioned that the top notes weave in and out of the fragrance. I don’t believe I’ve seen anyone talk about Ouverture. Based on Lauryn’s review I would love to try it! Located in the US.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I love this house but haven’t smelled many of this series. This sounds amazing and I love the way you describe this as opulent yet comfortable. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • What a fun review, you have to love a bit of drama, opulence, and performance after this last year. Overture sounds like it would play me like a fiddle – I love a fragrance that twirls through a series of transformations before it settles down into the plush base notes. What’s more, the orange-cinnamon combo is *exactly* what I realized I was missing from my collection as I was enjoying a warm cup of spiced tea the other day. And Lauren thinks it has a kinship with 1920s perfumes, yet with a modern slice of ambroxan to take it into the 2020s? Yep, if I wasn’t sold already, I would be by now. Would you believe after all this time I haven’t tried a Xerjoff fragrance? Overture would be just the place to start. The imagined fragrance of velvet has to be tied to color – what else would sumptuous burgundy velvet smell like, if not roses and spiced incense perfume? I’m in the USA, thank you for the draw. 😉

  • IvanVelikov says:

Wow Ouverture sounds awesome, both carefree and posh , also somehow playful , and definitely happy.
Because of Dana review of Dolce Amalfi i ordered a sample yesterday, now i definitely want to try Ouverture too , and of course the new hype train Italica. The amount of attention it gets basically everywhere is insane. People lucky enough to already have it , speak about it like it’s THE Mona Lisa of gourmands . I still can’t find samples through… I mean in US
For going out , and personal satisfaction I’m happy to have have Lira , my favorite Xerjoff, up until now. I also have 10ml decant of Cavour I
Velvet smell ? I was not expecting such question .I’m in tailoring business , and actually love working with different varieties of velvet , it’s kind of trendy last 2-3 years. My velvet association with fragrances, is Jo Malone Velvet Rose and Oud .
Beautiful giveaway – thanks a lot.

  • Bryant Worley says:

I appreciated the way Lauryn wove the operatic theme throughout the review.

That being said, there were 3 things that I appreciate about this fragrance:

    1) The noes, especially the ‘stars’ of the show cinnamon, orange, and sandalwood.
    2) The fact that, THANK GOD!, it’s not a linear scent – “In Xerjoff’s Ouverture, indeed, the opening notes loop in and out of the central aromas of orange, cinnamon and sandalwood like a recurring olfactory theme as the mise-en-scene unfolds.
    3) Lauryn made it seem like it might have very good longevity (“The dry-down, WHEN IT EVENTUALLY COMES, brings everyone together for the finale.”)

My favorite Xerjoff is More than Words.

I would think, if Velvet had a smell, it would probably be something smooth and creamy, like sandalwood and vanilla. But since Velvet is made of 2 materials, one being silk, it could also have an earthy, patchouli-like smell.

  • velvet — smells like cat fur to me (a good thing 🙂

and the review: oh cinnamon! i’ve lamented the swapping-away of lutens’ rousse ever since i committed that error — and another cinnamon fragrance would be fantastic (and i mean: cinnamon, orange and sandalwood — how can you *not* want to smell that?)

    ~harper (usa)

  • Never tried this one and probably the first I’ve heard of. Sound nice and like the chance to try. Many left from Xerjoff that I want to try. Enjoyed the read and thanks for the draw, Ca

  • Quality with Xerjoff fragrances is through the roof. When I think about Xerjoff pictures of Mefisto always comes to mind. Awesome classy aromatic and citrusy fragrance.
What intrigues me in Ouverture is the sandalwood, the incense, amber and the present, but restrained sweetness.
    A bit eccentric maybe.
Nio ,Agusta , Golden Dallah , Accento Overdose and Amabile i sampled lately, all i would wear, but my number one Xerjoff is still the same , Mefisto.
Velvet smell like my just restored ~100 years old Barber Chair , I paid quite a lot for. Upholsterer did such a great job , with maroon velvet on it. If you’re asking about something related to fragrances, my girlfriend loves Tom Ford Velvet Orchid.
Exquisite draw , thanks Lauryn , and Europerfumes

  • The soft, cozy yet fuzzy feeling of this one leads me to wanting this beautiful perfume. It sounds like it smells exactly like what velvet is. I don’t have a favorite Xerjoff… maybe Nio? Thank you for the opportunity. USA

  • constancesuze says:

I’ve never seen an opera, but this sounds like how I imagine an opera might smell. Operas, velvet, and Xerjoff Ouverture. Another very operatic perfume, which maybe touches on the personification of velvet (or maybe brocade) is Amouage Gold Woman.
I’m in the US and my favorite Xerjoff is Lira.

  • WaltherP99 says:

Xerjoff is one best niche brands ever. I know almost all fragrances, excluding the Attars , the pure Parfums with the shape of a teardrop, still can’t remember the name of the line. I also don’t know the 2 from the charity Spray to Help line , 1986 ( money are going to a Cancer research program) , Save me (it was something about dogs , saw it on their Instagram) and just released Decas.
At this moment I own 6 bottles . My favorite one is Mamluk.
Ouverture i know from now nonexistent Sospiro , sub-brand of Xerjoff.
Creamy sandalwood, just a bit spicy, balsamic fragrance with right amount of sweetness in the base is what I get for the most part.
If you’re scared of jasmine like me , don’t be. Jasmine in Ouverture is not dirty, indolic or carnal , but clean , and it’s well blended with the fig leaves.
Velvet smells like the whole Velvet Line from Xerjoff, even like Accento Overdose, the only one without the velvet sleeve on the bottle 🙂
    All profiles i already follow.
    Top giveaway, thanks

  • Sensual velvety fragrances are so seductive. Antique silk velvet with a little bit of dry-rot has a magical, romantic, sentimental quality. It smells like a dusty attic. I don’t have a favourite Xerjoff fragrance. I am in the US.

Thanks for the great review Lauryn. I just love how comfortable this fragrance sounds in your review. Of course, who wouldn’t want to attend an opera in their PJ’s instead of all that stuffy high class wear?

Velvet smells like musk, ozone and iris to me.

My favourite Xerjoff fragrance so far has been Dallah (courtesy CFB)

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • I love Xerjoff, one of my favourite perfume-house. I have tested Overture when it was realised. I remember it richness, velvety ambery- woody aspects.
Thanks for review and chance to win it.

  • The cinnamon , orange, and sandalwood combination here sounds delightful. And I like the idea of an opulent, but wearable perfume. To me, rose plays a part in something smelling like velvet. A dose of creamy ylang ylang will elevate this plushness, and vanilla will round out the luxe feel of velvet. This perfume sounds gorgeous. I am in the USA

  • patrick_348 says:

I love Lauryn’s last 14 words, “Xerjoff Ouverture is like attending a night at the opera in your favourite jammies.” The three “star notes” of orange, cinnamon and sandalwood sound like a great combo. I confess I have never tried a Xerjoff fragrance, but this sounds like a winner. I associate velvet with a little bit of mustiness. Pairing it with cinnamon sounds much more appealing. In the US in NC.

  • petergigov says:

Ouverture sounds so multifaceted, going through floral ,woody, and spicy balsamic stages. Unordinary fragrance i would like to try , and compare it to the other Opera related Xerjoff fragrance called… Opera 🙂
Wearing Xerjoff fragrance is always a special experience to me , somehow it reminds me of Untouchables and Eliot Ness. I like so many Xerjoff fragrances, I believe my favorites are Lira and Opera. The one everyone is talking about online, called Italica is first on my wish list.
Velvet to me smells like Xerjoff Opera.
Oh’ not that it matters much, but my bottle of Opera is a few years old , with Sospiro label on it.
    Overly exciting giveaway, USA

  • I haven’t had a chance to sample many Xerjoff fragrances. But the one I do own a full bottle of is Golden Dallah and I love it. This one sounds incredible with the cinnamon, amber and incense notes. I think Xerjoff does a wonderful job at full bodied, rich scents. When I think of the word “velvet”, it invokes a fragrance that has oud in it, for some reason.
    I live in the USA.

  • I find Xerjoff to be one the top 5 brands of high end perfumery ,no questions asked. One of my the first niche purchases was Lira early 2012.
I own a sample of Ouverture, and I think Lauryn review was really good. No two people are alike, and my opinion is similar, but not quite the same. I do consider Ouverture to be woody gourmand, with florals in it . It starts with the orange, but almost immediately vanilla kicks in, magnolia, ylang-ylang banana like smell and rose are there and present, but unlike Lauryn fig and jasmine I don’t perceive one bit , incense too.Cinnamon just adds to the spiciness.
I believe Ouverture is eclectic dressed up fragrance , but trying it on your own skin is a must.
I still love Lira , but it’s not my favorite one, not anymore, Cruz del Sur II is , followed by Golden Dallah and then comes Lira.
Images of the three just mentioned , Ouverture and Erba Pura comes to mind, when I think about “velvet smell”
Thank you all , Lauryn, Cafleurebon and Europerfumes

  • I still haven’t tried anything yet from Xerjoff, but I am hoping to try all that they’ve made eventually. According to Lauryn’s review, this fragrance seems like it is enjoyable with different parts to it. I especially want to see what the opening is like since Lauryn made it seem interesting: “The bold opening brings a dizzying rush of juicy orange, russet cinnamon and fig leaf”. I’m under the impression that a good way of describing this fragrance is when Lauryn said: “the opening notes loop in and out of the central aromas of orange, cinnamon and sandalwood like a recurring olfactory theme”. I’m not sure what velvet smells like. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • I’ve only tried Lira from this house. I enjoyed this review & velvet to me always makes me think of vintage, complex fragrances. I love sandalwood so I’ll have to put this on my sample list. The vanilla/amber/jasmine phase sounds divine! Thanks for the draw! I’m in the US.

  • Michael Prince says:

What appeals to me about Xerjoff Ouverture based on Lauryn’s review is how she ties Ouverture into the theatre and opera and the velvet curtains that come along with it. A beautiful orange, cinnamon, and sandalwood combination that transitions into beautiful florals, vanilla, and amber. My favorite Xerjoff fragrance is Naxos. Velvet to me has a musky and earthy smell to it, but in a good way. I am from the USA.
