The launch of a new Maison is always great news for any perfume lover. And, in 2021, when even scheduling any visit is a challenge, I was fortunate to meet with perfumer Isabelle Doyen and Creative Director Camille Goutal in their labo. These women are legendary as the team behind Annick Goutal Parfums. Instead of resting on their laurels, after three years of hard work (a little shaken up by the pandemic and the logistical delays inherent in such a situation) Isabelle Doyen and Camille Goutal bring us Voyages Imaginaires (Imaginary Journeys), a collection of five beautiful natural perfumes launched late last year that conjure sensations, dreams and travel.

Great Perfume Quotes I search out new perfumes, vaster flowers, pleasures never felt before -Gustave Flaubert

Voyages Imaginaires motto: a quote from Gustave Flaubert’s poem “The temptation of Saint-Anthony “- edited by Emmanuelle

Voyages Imaginaires is 100% committed to being “green”,  to sustainability and  to respecting the environment in  all the perfume compositions, and in everything that goes with them (bottles, packaging, leaflets, etc.).  Of course, the choice of exclusively natural raw materials inevitably, reduced the perfumer’s palette, “ Unfortunately, you have to do without woods, or even ambroxan, musk, hedione”, Isabelle Doyen told me,  “Research has move along a lot concerning natural molecules. But today, a synthetic coumarin is 300 times cheaper than its natural equivalent”, she adds. This choice to go natural is not a dismissal of formulations with synthetic notes, rather it is the philosophy of a new perfumery, more responsible, and out of necessity  more complex to formulate.  Only organic wheat alcohol is used accompanied by exclusively natural raw materials.  Voyages Imaginaires will resonate with perfume lovers and consumers who are showing increased interest in natural products.  While the sillage may not always be as intense as in so-called “classic” perfumes, the notes develop, evolve, grow stronger and then soften- they simply reveal themselves on the skin.  As Camille Goutal told me: “You have to stop believing that a good perfume lasts for a long time.

For Voyages Imaginaires, escape is at the heart of each composition.  Creating a new scentscape built on their vision of raw materials, memories, or photos created by Camille Goutal (before taking over the the perfume house created by her mother Annick, Camille was a photographer). She has of course remained so, and never stopped immortalizing the splendours that Nature offers to her eyes. Was it a photo that led to the choice of raw materials or the opposite? “We wanted an orange blossom perfume. Between this desire and the photo, there were plenty of possible entry points. There has never been a process. Just a common reflection,” says Camille Goutal. Isabelle Doyen adds, “Camille and I have been connected since the start of our collaboration. We have similar and compatible muses. Camille nods, “We have my mother in common. As a child, I could smell all the perfumes tests, as the laboratory was at home. But my universe, rather rock’n roll, is more that of Isabelle. My mother was classic and sophisticated. But we have in common the desire to offer beauty and to make people happy.

The bottle is a true work of art, in which Camille Goutal has  invested much of her own sensibility. Faceted and elegant, it is designed to be kept as a collector’s item. The label at first look may seem understated, but is in fact double-sided. By turning the bottle, the photo linked to the perfume appears in transparency, as if by magic. This timeless elegance is “broken” with the raw look of the cap. “I have a true passion for metal, especially brushed metal “, admits Camille. “At first I thought a round cap would be fine, but that made it too classic. Then came the idea of a bolt, while strolling through a Parisian department store, known to be a real treasure for DIY enthusiasts.”  Everything is hand made; even the labels are glued on manually. Respect for the environment does not stop there: reusable packaging boxes, water-based ink, biodegradable cellophane, and organic cotton pouches.

For these five creations, Camille and Isabelle had specific goals and ideas. All raw materials materials and “Imaginary journeys” are linked to Camille Goutal’s photography.

Voyages Imaginaires Tea and ROCK’N roll review

Voyages Imaginaires Tea and rock’n roll – photo by Camille Goutal

Voyages Imaginaires Tea And Rock ‘n Roll takes us to England during the1960’s, psychedelic but still elegant. Those who would party all night long but wouldn’t go to bed until they’ve had a cup of tea. The perfume opens with bergamot, of course, but with a slightly leathery, even spicy roundness on the skin. On seeing the photo, I immediately thought of Austin Powers movies (Look carefully,  it’s actually Isabelle Doyen posing!). I would personally associate this perfume with the seductive singer Brian Ferry. Notes: Bergamot, mate tea, tonka bean.

photography by Camille Goutal of Azahar

Voyages Imaginaires Azahar photo by Camille Goutal

Voyages Imaginaires Azahar (which means orange tree in Spanish-Arabic) transports us to Morocco, more precisely to Marrakech. Orange blossom is  presented as extremely gourmand, carnal, and recalls the delicious pastries found in the city, but with a little touch of freshness you get on summer evenings, after a hot and very sunny day. Notes: Orange blossom, petitgrain, tangerine, vanilla.

Voyages Imaginaires L’echappee sauvage all natural

Voyages Imaginaires L’échappée sauvage – photo by Camille Goutal

Voyages Imaginaires L’échappée Sauvage evokes a Mediterranean island. It’s a fragrance that features fig, but without its usual milky side. Here, it is woody and fresh, almost  salty, sensual and very summery. You can easily imagine yourself walking in the middle of a dense and wild pine forest. Notes: Fig, bergamot, lemon, cedar wood, gaïac wood, tonka bean, pink peppercorns.

Voyages Imaginaires La couleur de la nuit perfume

Voyages Imaginaires La couleur de la nuit – photo by Camille Goutal

La Couleur De La Nuit is accompanied by a sublime photo of a blood red sky. A nocturnal light, evocative of Asia, especially the elegant and enigmatic universe of Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai movies. Extremely bewitching, it plays between freshness and sensuality, like a secret meeting between a man and a woman who would mix their perfume in a shy kiss. This initially oriental lavender scent smoothes over the minutes, giving way to an amber patchouli, vanilla with some resinous hints. Notes: Lavender, geranium, vanilla, fir balsam, patchouli.

Voyages Imaginaires Le grand jeu review

Voyages Imaginaires Le grand jeu – photo by Camille Goutal

All four of the previous creations made a lasting impression on me by the quality of the raw materials used and their evolution on my skin.  Voyages Imaginaires Le grand jeu attracted me the most on paper, as I am a great lover of the tuberose. Camille and Isabelle chose the photo of a white sand beach with footprints which, we can guess, is warm and soft at the same time.  I imagine, wet feet, bodies warmed by the sun and I thought of Ursula Andress in James Bond Dr. No. Here, the tuberose is extremely milky, warm and sensual. It envelops the skin in its carnal notes, sharpened by the gardenia which calms its wild side while amplifying its ultra feminine character. Vanilla coats everything, like a gourmet sweetness that you could lick with your fingers. A fragrance that smells summer, with the lightness of the senses that accompanies this season. A real skin fragrance, arguably the most carnal of the five. If I do not venture to compare myself to the beautiful Ursula, I certainly imagine myself as a naiad on a desert island, far from noise, pollution and winter grayness. A true “Voyage Imaginaire”. Notes: Gardenia, tuberose, vanilla

Michelyn Camen of Cafleurebon with perfumer Isabelle Doyen

Isabelle Doyen with Michelyn In Milan 2017

I wanted to end my journal and thoughts on a more personal note. First, I would like to thank CaFleureBon Editor-in-Chief Michelyn Camen for giving me the opportunity to meet Isabelle Doyen and Camille Goutal and for editing skills.  It also allowed me to meet Isabelle Doyen,  the composer of my favorite perfume (Nuit de Bakélite, Naomi Goodsir), an icon in French perfumery, and Camille Goutal, daughter of Annick Goutal,  legend of niche perfumery, stepdaughter of Alain Meunier, a famous French cellist (my father was himself a professional cellist). These connections  gave this meeting a very strong emotional dimension, which I wanted to share with you. Visits are rare in their workshop located in the heart of Paris, especially during this Covid-19 time; these two hours spent together were a rare gift. I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

-Emmanuelle Varron, Senior Contributor

I really enjoyed Emmanuelle’s review of Voyages Imaginaires, and one cannot but admire the care, perfection and passion that was put in the creation. I love the fact that Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen chose sustainability, both of the raw materials and in terms of packaging, I love the care that was put in the choice of the bottle and cap shape, and the idea of the two sides labels with one of Camille’s photos visible across the glass is absolutely great. All fragrances sound lovely, but the ones that appeal to me the most are Tea and rock and roll and Le grand jeu. Thank you for the great opportunity, I live in Milan, Italy

  • Brad Woolslayer says:

It was nice to read about Emmanuelle’s visit, especially during these Covid-19 times. I enjoyed reading about the natural ingredients and also the use of environmentally safe boxes, pouches, and inks. I would love to check out the Mediterranean themed L’echappee Sauvage. I live in Maryland USA.

  • I applaud Voyages Imaginaires commitment to sustainability and to crafting fragrances with natural ingredients only. It certainly is a testament to the skill of the perfumer to create something beautiful and memorable from a purposefully limited palette. The bottles are gorgeous! I wasn’t too sure about the rustic looking cap, but after Camille’s explanation, I get her vision. All sound lovely and I too am most interested in Le grand jeu. I love naturally distilled tuberose and rarely find a tuberose based perfume that does it justice. Commenting from MD.

  • How wonderful that you got to spend time in the workshop. I bet that was a great visit before you added in musician gossip. A great multigenerational meeting of artists of all senses.
Azahar calls out to me since I love orange blossom. Usa

  • Natural perfumery is a beautiful thing! I’m a fan, and like that more choices are available to us. The bottles and labels are unique. L’échappée Sauvage is definitely calling out to me with that summery vibe. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff! Mich USA

  • Living in the U.S. This line sounds lovely and I appreciated the linking of the scents and images. L’échappée Sauvage intrigues me the most. And I appreciate Emmanuelle sharing her rare and very personal Paris workshop visit with us!

  • This meeting was so informative. As an introduction to this brand, this review clearly showed what the brand’s aim is. I absolutely love their mission of creating perfume in a sustainable method, despite the challenges that come with that. I think the destinations that go with each perfume are absolutely lovely, and I really would love to try this brand’s offerings. Out of the perfumes reviewed, L’échappée Sauvage speaks to me the most because of the fig without the milky side. It sounds very unique, and I am not one for milky elements in perfumery, so it is very appealing. Kind regards from Illinois, USA.

  • Oh I’m so excited to hear about this new brand! It sound amazing and its obvious that a lot of care, thought and love went into making all the perfumes and the bottles. I love these bottles. I really appreciate the intro about the house and how it Isabelle Doyenand Camille Goutal imagined it. I love the photo with the perfume organ! Based on Emmanuelle’s description I think I would most likely enjoy L’échappée Sauvage with fig and cedar, but also La Couleur De La Nuit since I love lavender and patchouli, and without any doubt Le grand jeu since I love milky creamy tuberose! I’m from Illinois, US.

  • I thought Emmanuelle’s visit with Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen was a pleasure to hear about and I appreciated learning about how they are using natural ingredients and an organic wheat alcohol base.
The voyages imaginaires perfume that spoke to me the most was le grand jeu. I love how the tuberose and gardenia are drenched in vanilla. Sounds delectable.
    I am in Oregon, USA.

This initially oriental lavender scent smoothes over the minutes, giving way to an amber patchouli, vanilla with some resinous hints. Notes: Lavender, geranium, vanilla, fir balsam, patchouli. I am intrigued by the notes and mystery and aura surrounding this concoction and that the house is eco friendly and the misconception that perfume has to judged on performance alone is wrong. Thanks a million from the UK

Those who would party all night long but wouldn’t go to bed until they’ve had a cup of tea. The perfume opens with bergamot, of course, but with a slightly leathery, even spicy roundness on the skin. A house that I am not familiar with but I am intrigued by nonetheless I love that this house is environmentally friendly and the pedigree of the perfumers just adds up to a winning combination. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • This report is full of beauty, art, design and serious emotion. Great read. And I agree, a good perfume doesn’t have to last all day! Wrong direction the industry took.

I’d love to win the discovery set to Germany,, thank you for the draw.

  • It must have been quite special to meet them during this time– probably not many get to do so, recently. But they seem happy to invite curious noses into their creative world, which sounds so welcoming and positive. I have a feeling I’d be most drawn to L’échappée Sauvage. (in USA)

  • I love natural perfumery and would have loved to be part of that workshop! Looks like voyages imaginaires holds the right values and principles to be a house that I would love to try and revisit times and times again. Thanks for the opportunity and the great review! Living in the EU

  • Wilson Chin says:

I love the sound of this! So many fresh and zesty notes, right up my alley. And I’m intrigued by the all-natural ingredients. A ajar is most interesting to me. I love citrus notes, and I’m intrigued by the tangerine. I rarely see that as a note. I’m in NYC.

  • On paper the l’wchapee sauvage and tea and rock’n’roll speak to me the most. Beautiful stories of all the perfumes, with theri moods dictated by the photographs and their stores filled with geographical and film references. To be honest, right now any meeting would be great, let alone one with a famous perfumer or musucian!
    I’m in Slovenia, EU

  • These sound wonderful and I definitely want to seek them out. They all speak to me but I think tea and rock n roll because I want to smell like Bryan Ferry and Azahar to conjure up orange blossom and pastries do the most. I’m very excited to try if possible I’m in U.K.
So lucky to meet these beautiful perfumers in their own environment and have a tour of their well thought out new brand.

  • Since the mainstream perfumery has been entangled in the pursuit of making the best concoction of synthetic molecules at the lowest possible costs, it’s refreshing to read about the brands that pursue the natural path. Especially since, according to the article, the natural ingredients are more expensive and difficult to acquire, the natural perfumes are more complex to formulate and offer less intensive sillage, the characteristic that might deter the searchers for the »beast mode« perfumes.
I really enjoyed learning about both talented and accomplished creators behind the new brand and reading short reviews of each of their five scents. Based on the accompanying photographs, which seem to be inspirations for the perfumes, I would firstly pick L’échappée Sauvage and La Couleur De La Nuit. After reading the review and the list of notes, my preferred choices would be the same, followed by Tea And Rock ‘n Roll. However, after sampling, I might change my list of favorites completely. 🙂
Thank you for a great introduction to the new mansion and the opportunity to sample all five fragrances. I reside in the EU.

  • it is so rare nowadays to meet such special persons. and the fact that it was a actual meeting and not a virtual one, makes my skin erect it’s hair 🙂 I would go in any Voyages Imaginaires voyage, but I would definetelly start with La couleur de la nuit. Thank you! I live in Europe

  • Thank you Emmanuelle for the review of Voyages Imaginaires. Any time Brian Ferry is mentioned, I get an earworm and now can’t get ‘slave to love’ out of my head – which is a good thing since I’m also stuck with a smile and fond memories 🙂 This ensures that the fragrances of Voyages Imaginaires (and especially Azahar which sounds stunning) will have a love association in my mind. I’m in USA

  • Constancesuze says:

I’m glad that this visit was possible despite the restrictions of the pandemic and that Camille and Isabelle have been able to get their perfumes launched.
Particularly interested by Tea and Rock ‘n Roll, as early rock is my favorite and I’m the fusion of sensibilities sounds fun.

  • Iuno Feronia says:

Thnaks for this review and the draw. When I read I fell in love with all of them but the most with “Le grand jeu”, because i love Tuberose. I would also love to meet Isabelle Doyen – so much perfumery knowhow in one family!
    I live in Europe.

  • Great article! What a blessing to visit them in person and have some sort of normalcy. I really appreciate their commitment to being “green” and using natural products, and hope that others follow suit. L’échappée Sauvage sounds great, as I long for the summer during the cold NY winter! Regards, from NY USA.

  • Oh my goodness!!! Every one of these sound so amazing! I would treasure this set forever! I am especially loving Voyages Imaginaires Le grand jeu! I adore tuberose and miss the days when I would buy some from the farmers market and look forward to nightfall when the intoxicating scent would fill the room! Thank you for the review and wonderful draw! Im in Colorado USA

  • I appreciate the fact that these two perfumers opened up and spoke about being advocates of sustainability and choosing raw materials, even if that leads to a compromise in terms of longevity, since no chemical preservatives and compounds are used. I also agree with the statement that longevity / sillage do NOT make a good perfume, not necessarily. Even though I am always happy when a great and unique composition also happens to perform beautifully. My favorites from the bunch would be Le grand jeu, because I love white florals in general and tuberose in particular, and this fragrance was described as a beautiful, milky, carnal yet soft tuberose, and Tea and Rock’n’Roll, because it sounds like a very smart idea, combining bergamot tea with leather and something as classic as drinking tea with the edgy personality of a rock’n’roll listener.
I am in Europe and would feel very lucky to win the sample kit. Thanks!

  • What an amazing experience to meet with them in their lab, especially now. I can’t imagine how much it meant to you. All of the fragrances sound amazing, and I really appreciate how much work can go into a natural perfume. I am one of those people who generally prefers the natural scents that stay close to the skin. The one that appeals to me most is L’échappée sauvage that fig, a mediterranean island, take me away! I am in the US.

  • Just the details involved in designing and crafting this new maison’s aesthetic and soul are quite impressive. I was struck by the hidden connections that bound all three participants of this fragrant meeting to each other, there must have been much to talk about! It would be great to try all five fragrances, but the one that speaks to me the most would have to be La Couleur de La Nuit. Thanks so much for the chance, as always! Oregon, USA.

  • promising and interesting concept. Description got me intrigued. I want o try the line. Thanks for the giveaway good luck. A reader from EU

  • Voyages imaginaires sound exactly what this year needs; transporting yourself to another place that you can’t go to! How wonderful that Emanuelle could meet these great women in person to tell us about the creation of this new line of natural perfumes. I also love the bottle designs and the thought and labour that has gone into producing these.
They all sound really beautiful and sound very different from one another. I always like fig so l’echappée sauvage draws me in. Would really love to try these perfumes. I’m in the EU

  • Ah, the Goutal team. My absolute favourite perfumers in the entire world. Un Matin d Orange was my first crush, and it suited me so well. It was followed by Ninfeo Mio, La Muguet, Eau de Charlotte, and lately I’ve been crazy for Eau du Ciel (an evocative inimitable masterpiece – please bring it back!). Goutal has a special place in my heart, I appreciate their light touch, their quiet finesse. I would love love love to try all their new offerings but especially Azahar and the reason is this: I work in the city of Piraeus in Greece. It’s a harsh place, unkempt and user un-friendly. But every March the orange trees that line the streets bloom. And because of the sea air, the aroma of the orange blossoms becomes extra narcotic. Every time I walk out of my office I take a deep breath and try to saturate my lungs at full capacity with their divine scent. Maybe there is a God after all, if there can be such beauty in the world? Who knows. Thank you Emmanuelle for taking the time to educate us on this exciting new project. I am so glad the Goutal team have fresh new ideas! I would love to participate in the draw and I am based in the EU.

  • Simple and elegant – this is what comes to mind when reading about Voyages Imaginaires fragrances in this review by Emmanuelle. Their meeting must have been wonderful, especially as she was meeting masters of perfumery that she so admired, and because of the cello connection with her own father and Alain Meunier, stepfather of Annick Goutal. I like the sustainable fragrances in the Voyages Imaginaires collection as well the fact that notes are few and classic and everything is sustainably produced. All in this collection sound lovely, though I am attracted to Voyages Imaginaires Le grand jeu. Thanks for the review and the draw. Writing from the USA.

  • First of all I must congratulate Camille Goutal and Isable Doyen for such a beautifull project/achievement – Annick Goutal is one of my all time favourite houses, that i allways thought has it’s essence in the simplicity and naturality of the perfumes created. In this age when all seems rough, hard, loud… it takes courage and at the same time a true love for beauty, to make this creations.
The review is very good, and it really leaves me with a strong amount of curiosity to get to know these perfumes – specially La Couleur de La Nuit (patchouli, lavender and geranium seem an awesome combination!).
I’d love to get to know these treats!

    SB76

  • I’m so glad Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen have started their own line. Emmanuelle Varron’s article gave a very good rundown of the perfumes. I love orange blossom so I think I’d be most drawn to Azahar. I don’t recall Annick Goutal having a full-on orange blossom scent, though I may be wrong. I live in the USA. Thank you for sponsoring this draw.

Are Voyages Imaginaires perfumes available in the US?

  • I appreciated learning about perfumer Isabelle Doyen, Camille Goutal, and Annick Goutal. I also appreciated learning about these five fragrance releases. I enjoyed the photo of Doyen and Goutal’s collection of essential oils to work with. The fragrance “La Couleur De La Nuit” is the one which might appeal to me the most. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • As I’ve recently gotten into perfume and fragrance, I’m still a bit of a newbie when it comes to the creation of perfumes. This brought a lot of insight into the process of creating the juice and the presentation (which is absolutely stunning). Not only that, but the passion behind it is very evident which is lovely to read. I also love the idea behind an imaginary journey coming from a smell. So good! I’m fascinated by Tea And Rock ‘n Roll and Voyages Imaginaires L’échappée Sauvage.

  • So much thought and emphasis on setting themselves apart from standard of fragrances. Voyages Imaginaires L’échappée Sauvage Speaks very loudly to me.

Definitely enter me in to win.

  • It was interesting to read about what it means to create a perfume entirely with natural materials. What Camille Goutal said about no longer believing that all good perfumes have to last for a long time also resonated with me. Of the creations that were described, I am mostly intrigued by Azahar. In the USA.

  • I’m intrigued by the all-natural ingredients and it was interesting read about the connections through family relations. La Couleur De La Nuit spoke to me most, not only because of the notes but also wanting to travel again and visiting south-east Asia. Thank you for the draw, I live in Finland.

  • I’m excited to hear about their focus on environmental sustainability. I hope more brands, mainstream and indie, follow suit. Tea And Rock&Roll is conceptullu interesting. They all sound great honestly. I live in Denmark, EU

  • Each new fragrance house makes me so happy because more than fragrances, I love the discovery process and what it implies: excitement, emotions, enchantment and love. I hope I’ll get the chance to try them, because the description was love at first sight for me. I currently live in Romania.

  • I really enjoyed Emmanuelle’s review of Voyages Imaginaires.
I find the concept of this perfume-house very well considered- beautiful simplicity, row materials, beautiful bottles.
I would like to test all collection, maybe L’échappée Sauvage will be my favorite.
    USA

  • I have been too busy to read the blog this past week. But the title and the image grabbed my attention immediately; there are just too many key words. Reading on, I enjoyed the description of the cap and the photography–scents paired other art forms always have great effects on me. I also loved how they talk about the collaborations during the interview.

I hope I’ll have a lazy weekend going on these scented imaginary journeys, especially La Couleur De La Nuit. It seems to be a noncliched oriental and noncliched lavender.
    (US)

  • I loved reading Emmanuelle’s words about natural perfumery and Imaginaires perfume. Respecting the enviornment and “Green” fragrances are the best. The descriptions of these and the bottles are beautiful. Voyages Imaginaires Azahar sounds especially wonderful. Thank you USA

  • Emmanuelle has beautifully described the sustainable and natural concept behind Voyages Imaginaires perfumes. Her descriptions of the bottles, true works of art, will surely inspire readers of Cafleurebon to seek them out. I also enjoyed reading Emmanuelle’s succinct description of the fragrances themselves. As a big fan of Wong Kar-wai, I am especially intrigued by La Couleur De la Nuit. An oriental lavender….how wonderful.
    I live in the USA.

  • patrick_348 says:

I liked Emmanuelle’s description of the personal connection she felt to Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen. The article exuded a kind of sincerity that I found appealing. I find that the pair’s setting of restrictions of sustainability and naturalness almost like the restrictions that some artists put on themselves, e.g., to work in sonata form or with a limited color palette. Solving the problems of working within limits can often bring out the best in creative minds. Although I am a fan of both Brian Ferry and Wong Kar-Wai and could relate to those references, the scent whose description most intrigued me was L’échappée Sauvage. I am in the US, in North Carolina.

  • Love the ethos of the brand and the absolute honesty behind it. Quite rare to find that in the world of perfumery 😉 I’m a sucker for a beautiful bottle, too. These are absolutely gorgeous down to the last detail! I adore tea fragrances, so Tea And Rock N’ Roll caught my eye from the start. But I must say, all sound intriguing! Thank you for the opportunity. I live in Pensacola, FL.

  • wandering_nose says:

Considering the unprecedented circumstances which have affected everyone to a bigger or lesser extent in terms of their possibilities to meet other people face to face, an opportunity to spend some time with talented perfumers sounds like a treat of a lifetime, definitely food for thought and feast for the senses, something to remember. I am the most enchanted by La Couleur De La Nuit as I love lavender, patchouli and vanilla. Thank you from Ireland.

  • They’ve done a really thoughtful job of creating this line–the ingredients, the inspirations, the packaging are all so well done. I look forward to trying this line sometime, especially La Couleur De La Nuit. How fortunate for Emmanuelle to be able to connect with the creators of this house–thank you for sharing with us! I’m in the US.

  • Very nice that Emmanuelle was able to see the workshop and meet the perfumers! Both La Couleur De La Nuit & L’échappée Sauvage sound beautiful. Also love the focus on sustainability.

  • It was lovely getting the experience of visiting vicariously, since it’s not possible in person now a days. L’échappée Sauvage sounds absolutely perfect to me.

  • Kristin Baker says:

So interesting to see more and more houses developing/shifting toward a model of using natural perfume materials. I also love the marriage of photographic inspiration with fragrance. Based on the description, La Couleur De La Nuit sounds most intriguing.

  • Michael Prince says:

I really enjoyed Emmanuelle’s review of Voyages Imaginaires. I appreciate the care, perfection and passion that was put in the creation of this fragrance line. I love the fact that Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen chose sustainability, both of the natural raw materials and in terms of packaging and fragrance notes. L’échappée Sauvage speaks to me the most out of this fragrance line from Voyages Imaginares. I am from the USA.

  • Bryant Worley says:

Emmanuelle’s meeting with Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen was very informative, giving insight into the making of the fragrances, their inspiration, as well as info on their creators. BRAVA!

The fragrance that spoke to me was Voyages Imaginaires L’échappée Sauvage – just the inclusion of the fig was enough for me. And then there’s the “walking in the middle of a dense and wild pine forest” scenario.

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • bigscoundrel says:

I like understanding the brand’s history and what they represent. It’s good to see they are into sustainability and being “green.” I’d like to try Voyages Imaginaires Azahar to experience their interpretation of Marrakech. New Jersey, USA

  • I applaud Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen for having chosen sustainability, as I feel it is not something given a lot of attention (yet!) in the perfume world. Great photograps too! La couleur de la nuit sounds like a perfume I could wear and love.

    Kind regards from The Netherlands,

  • I love the focus on sustainability and how much they are involved in avery step of the creation of perfumes. from design to the actual formulations and that they use natural ingredients. La Couleur De La Nuit sounds most interesting to me.
    And I’m from Denmark

What a beautiful and elqouent review. Thank you so much for it Emmanuelle!

Based on what your review, it seems like this meeting and the writing of this review were destined a long time back.

I’m in awe of the inspiration of the perfumers to stick to only naturals, the picture of the “Perfume Organ” and the beauty of the bottles.

The Voyages Imaginaaire(s) that speak to me the most are Le Grand Jeu and La Couleur De La Nuit

  • I love both of these women work. Annick Goutal is the fragrance house I turn to most often. I like the sophistication of their scents: they are wonderful, can be weird, all are wearable 🙂 I am so happy for them for their new venture, and I hope they’ll find a Canadian distributor.

Emmanuelle did a fantastic job of this interview, and I love the pictures too. Al the new scents sound lovely but Le Grand Jou sounds particularly wonderful. The photographs are perfect. I’m in Canada, and thank you for this opportunity 🙂

  • I was impressed with the attention to detail in these creations from the bottle design to the quality of ingredients. And, who can’t use imaginary journeys these days. I think Tea and Rick n’ Roll appeals most to me since 60s London seems like a fun imaginary journey. I live in the USA.

  • A very interesting and captivating read. In the description of the new fragrance, I was interested in the fact that this masterpiece is a 100% botanical creation and that although there is vanilla and tonka bean and a hint of praline, it is not the usual sweet perfume.
