Top 10 Perfumes 2024

Top 10 Perfumes 2024 Karl and Rachel K. Ng

What a surprise 2024 has been for fragrance enthusiasts with a plethora of new releases the industry shows no sign of abating and is growing by the day. There is something for everyone from affordable designer perfumes to luxury non-commercial scents. In my search for the best olfactive experience I found that just as the seasons change, so does my taste. As someone who loves great ambers, I found myself gravitating to other fragrance families, barbershop fougeres to smoky chypres. As for the greatest trend, 2024 is the year of Extraits. Brands have brought new twists to original creations. For my Top 10 Perfumes 2024 I have chosen by season rather than an ad hoc list. Here are the perfumes which tickled my nose and brought me the most joy.-Karl Topham, Senior Editor

Top 10 Perfumes 2024 Spring

Initio Parfums Prives Oud For Greatness Neo: Back in 2018 I first experienced the original Oud For Greatness and purchased it on the spot. Then it was quite revolutionary in fusing an east meets west approach. My only annoyance was that I found it impossible to wear it all year round, especially in the warmer months. Enter this year’s Oud For Greatness Neo. With its overdose of bergamot blending beautifully with Lavender Opur Oud For Greatness Neo brings a sparkling bright aura which the original lacks. This opening lasts for hours on my skin and this surge of energy makes me smile. Originally Harrods’ exclusive collaboration with ‘H’ Society, Oud For Greatness Neo still keeps to the original’s oud-fougere accord but incorporates such bright and aromatic ingredients that it is even more crowd pleasing and truly memorable. @initioparfumsprives

Ex Nihilo The Hedonist Extrait de Parfum (Jordi Fernandez): A lavish interpretation of the original, The Hedonist Extrait is a refreshing and zingy fruity chypre with serious pizazz. The opening of citrus and spices is effervescent whilst the true star of the show comes in the form of lychee in the heart of the fragrance. This sumptuous blend combined with a sweet and woody base makes it the perfect accompaniment to a bright and crisp sprig morning. The synthetic notes of Akigalawood and Amberwood give this creation a serious projection and longevity. Tonka bean and vetiver anchor the scent providing depth. @exnihiloparis @jordi_perfumer

Amouage Guidance 46 (Quentin Bisch): Dessert like with a sticky rose; Amouage Guidance 46 has been tuned-up up to epic proportions. Powerful is how I would describe it. One could link it to the Afro-House movement in musical terms, it is a mixture of synthesized elements and organic materials heightened to 160 rpm. Addictive and unctuous it is a strong, fluid scent which is deliciously saturated with lashings of hazelnut whipped cream and vanilla. For those wanting to grab attention, this is your scent and a star in my Top 10 Perfumes 2024.@amouageofficial @quentinbischperfumer

 Top 10 Perfumes 2024 Summer.

Éveìlleur parfums, DSCVR Me (Olivier Cresp): Described as the heartbeat of the Croatian coast, DSCVR Me brings the freshness of a sea breeze and aromatic herbs. A juxtaposition of wildness and tranquility it opens with a fresh crispness courtesy of eucalyptus. However, quickly transitioning with the introduction of immortelle. This is the core of DSCVR me and within this complex floral lies its beauty. This is the resinous scent of the maquis combined with lentisque which are unique. Witness a subtle saltiness referring to the Mediterranean heat by the sea. The use of immortelle also adds a soft animalic touch whilst ambroxan and oakmoss gives this perfume structure and strength. Like being within the eye of the storm. Truly mesmeric. @eveilleurparfums @oliviercresp

Kilian Paris Sunkissed Goddess (Calice Becker): The ultimate beachy holiday vacation scent. Sunkissed Goddess is a whirl of white florals underpinned by Tiare flower, ylang-ylang and coconut. It’s effortless, silky smoothness is reminiscent of an ultra-luxurious sunscreen lotion. The fragrance has a perfect balance of floral, gourmand and lactonic notes for those sunny days. The neroli is not animalic in the slightest and the zing of bergamot also makes it very refreshing to wear. For the scent of this kind, it has fantastic staying power and is one to ensure you have packed your suitcase for summertime. @kilianparis @calicebecker

Iconofly Personne (Alexandre Helwani): Based on the plants mentioned in the chapters of Homer’s Odyssey, Personne portrays that of a personal journey of Ulysses. The name comes from “personne” (nobody) becoming a “personne” somebody. The sensation it brings is that of experience, slightly sweaty courtesy of cumin, animalic with jasmine, sweet from the use of liatris. There are woods used to signify energy and an interesting interpretation of an “anointing accord” referring to the sensation Ulysses may have felt when meeting Nausikka conveying both masculine and feminine traits. It is a perfume to experience and study rather than impressing with, more self-expression less external validation. @iconofly @theperfumechronicles

Top 10 Perfumes 2024 Autumn

Astrophil & Stella In Extremis (Meo Fusciuni): A contrast of rawness and refinement, In Extremis is both a daring and delicate perfume. It juxtaposes light and dark in an authentic and unconventional way which reflects both its perfumer and inspiration. Natural raw materials are used to create a smoky leathery, resinous yet slightly floral fragrance that bucks the recent trend of overly synthetic amber bombs. In Extremis is best experienced when one has the time and solitude to truly delve into its deep complexity. @astrophilstellaperfume @meofusciuni_parfums

BDK Parfums Rouge Smoking Extrait (Amelie Bourgeois and Margaux Le Paigh Guerin): Parisian chic in a bottle. Rouge Smoking Extrait takes the original and adds a rich and decadent roundness creating both intrigue and enhanced sensuality. The transparent scarlet red flacon and jet-black cap based on the rooftops of the Palais Royale perfectly give a visual interpretation of the scent. The opening is a sparkling sumptuous cherry this dries down to a semi-gourmand of almond and rum liquor accord. The base is a treat of deep seductive resins. A perfect date night scent.@bdkparfumsparis @margaux.le.paigh.guerin @ame_lie_bourgeois

Top 10 Perfumes 2024 Winter

Matière Premiere Encens Suave Extrait (Aurelien Guichard: Olibanum and benzoin are front and centre in this reimagination of the original. The extrait is stronger and the amplified concentration with darker and resinous constituents far more dominant. Perfect for wintertime, the Encens Suave Extrait is warmer, more balsamic and less vanillic than the original. Amazing for a more mature crowd, this is a sensational incense perfume with incredible longevity.@matierepremiereparfums @aurelienguichard

Frederic Malle Hope. Dominique Ropion: An extremely oud and wood dominant perfume which completes the Desert Gems collection. Originally a Harrods Exclusive, this dry and luxurious creation exudes a complex amalgamation of middle eastern ingredients crafted for a discernible western crowd. There is a lighter touch in comparison to The Night and Promise. Hope is more relaxed and more balsamic, less citrus heavy or animalic. Hope shines in the cooler weather when its heavy  woody aura can be fully appreciated. @fredericmalle @dominiqueropionparfumeur

And two more Top 10 Perfumes 2024

Arquiste, A Grove By The Sea (Rodrigo Flores-Roux): Transformative and mood-boosting, A Grove By The Sea has a classic green / marine structure. However, it offers a wealth of little surprises which keep one’s attention glued to it. I am welcomed by a bracing freshness done in a natural way. Inspired by the coastal regions of Croatia, A Grove By The Sea reflects the air, sea and soil. No individual note dominates and as such this is a wonderful fragrant experience, fennel, thyme and fig notes have been managed with dexterity and subtlety. The fir balsam, pine needles and cypress intertwine effortlessly delivering the super smooth wear. It is not the biggest projector or performing perfume, nor is that the intention of it. @arquiste @rodrigofloreroux

Noème Paris, Kalahari Extrême: An amplification of the original Kalahari, Kalahari Extreme is a gourmand, spicy amber fragrance which reflects the dunes of the middle east and the souks where both rich spices and fruits can be purchased. There is a sunny warmth to this aroma and a juiciness making one salivate. Pear, anise and orange mingle with myrrh, nutmeg, cardamom and pink berries. To my nose there is a sizeable dose of vanilla, not mentioned in the note breakdown. As it lingers on the skin the resins come to the fore courtesy of incense and labdanum. It is a mystical and marvellous creation. @noeme_paris

Karl Topham, Senior Editor

2024 has blossomed into a stimulating abundance of independent and artisanal fragrances whose community, as French philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari describe, is rhizomatic. Root-based structures, or rhizomes, offer a mapping of interconnected lines and planes rather than a vertical hierarchy. As the philosophers demonstrate, a rhizomatic group “is composed not of units but of dimensions, or rather directions in motion. It has neither beginning nor end, but always a milieu from which it grows and which it overspills.” While exploring the world of independent, niche, and artisanal perfumery can seem overwhelming at times, we are living through a golden era of quality, creativity and choice. The only thing to do is celebrate and explore. The fragrances that most stimulated the mind and body made my top 10 perfumes of 2024.-Rachel K. Ng, Senior Contributor

What were the best indie perfumes of 2024

Rachel K. Ng’s Top 10 Perfumes 2024

Arquiste Venice Rococo (Rodrigo Flores Roux) is an extraordinarily skillful take on the powdered world of the elite in Rococo Venice. Rodrigo Flores Roux has a rare talent for modernizing historical olfactive codes, presenting to the fragrance community intellectual and sensual pleasures of great depth and technical aptitude. Venice Rococo is, for me, an unexplored historical world of softly animalic talcs and florals laced with crystalline and metallic-edged aldehydes. A treasure. @arquiste @rodrigofloresroux

Darren Alan Honeysuckle Summer (Darren Alan) is an enchanting fragrance that sings of summer days and childhood sweetness. Darren is one of the most vigilant and ethical creators when it comes to the care he takes when making original materials to feature in his work and Honeysuckle Summer is no exception. The honey/beeswax extraction in this scent is mesmerizing and only improves in depth and richness as time passes. The extensive knowledge Darren has acquired of historical olfaction adds layers of complexity and charm to his creation. Darren Alan’s perfume of the month club is excellent and I had trouble choosing which fragrance to select. @darren_alan_perfumes

Rogue Perfumery Absolue de Mousse (Manuel Cross): Manuel is a perfumer known for his liquid conversations with past and present, this is the perfume I’ve been craving that expresses the scent of a cooling earth just barely tipping into fall. Rogue Perfumery Absolue de Mousse radiates that complex atmosphere of bare trees, cold air, wet earth with hay and tobacco nuances like a campfire that has been doused in the distance. Beautiful and makes my top 10 perfumes of 2024. @rogue.perfumery

St. Clair Scents Blue Marble (Diane St. Clair) is a heartfelt and finely tuned evocation of Earth as seen from a systems perspective. The delicate envelope of air, water, and earth that sustains life on our rocky planet is as interconnected and majestic as Diane St. Clair’s fragrance. Comprised of 7 accords representing oceans, soil, cold flowers, wet rocks, woods, green plants, and metals, the experience of wearing Blue Marble is a meditation on the intersections of these ecosystems, as well as our place within them. @stclairscents

Profumo Del Sonetto Amorosa Nebbia (Nathalie Feisthauer): A brilliant olfactive interpretation of the complex tensions and layers of endearment, devotion, and adoration that are a part of love. The more I spray this scent, the more I am addicted to its passionate heart of florals. Amorosa Nebbia’s lacy petals of jasmine, rose, and velvety buttery-soft orris wear like the fine layers of extravagant textiles found in the times of courtly love. @profumo_del_sonetto @nathaliefeisthauer

Parfums Quartana Soleil Invisible (Christina Christie) is the second perfume in Creative Director Joseph Quartana’s new fragrance line Les Potions D’Entéléchie, which explores the healing energies of Mother Nature. Inspired by the power of essential oil combinations, Soleil Invisible is a meditative fragrance that I often wear when facing a stressful day of work or other challenges. Sun-like citrus, warm rose, and grounding vetiver create a balancing and calming aura.  @parfums_quartana  @christinaperfume

Areej le Doré Paradise Soil (Russian Adam) is a fragrance that showcases Siberian deer musk in all its glory, from refined and chocolaty vintage qualities to its bolder more animalic expressions. Vintage Azerbaijani rose oil and wild-harvested Cambodian agarwood create a rarefied gem of an olfactory experience. Areej le Doré Paradise Soil is the soft and sensual connection to the animal aspect inside us all – a great pleasure to wear. @areegledoreperfume

Gentleman’s Nod Passion Poivrée (Ugo Charron: This fragrance that immediately struck me as a stimulating and bold fragrance, rich in complexity and charm. I’ve been wearing several Gentleman’s Nod fragrances this year, and have been delighted with their quality and unique perspectives on olfaction. Passion Poivré is a scent I often spray on my husband, a fragrance whose rugged charm and leathery undertones are a handsome addition to his wardrobe. @gentlemansnod @ugoartperfume

Francesca Bianchi Perfumes The Mariner’s Rhyme (Francesca Bianchi) took me to the seaside in a way no other fragrance has done in years. Francesca Bianchi’s work is authentic and idiosyncratic in a way that often catches my breath. There are many layers of the sea here: ozonic yet resinous, salty yet iridescent. There are grey sea days, luminous and silvered, as well as warm-watered sun-soaked waves in this bottle. Excellent. @francesca_bianchi_perfumes

Dior New Look 2024 (Francis Kurkdjian): Another innovative and surprising scent by Creative Director Francis Kurkdjian, whose skill at classical refinement and sharp elegance is currently unmatched in the world of luxury. Aldehydes and frankincense offer an intellectual sophistication. I did not expect this sparkling haughty take on the vintage floral formulation, yet I find myself wearing his New Look 2024 every time I am headed to a ballet, diplomatic event, or other refined occasion. @dior   @franciskurkdjian_official

Plus 1 Top 10 Perfumes 2024

Filippo Sorcinelli Notre Dame Notte di Natale (Filippo Sorcinelli) As the world celebrates the re-opening of Notre Dame cathedral, this fragrance takes me back to being invited to celebrate Christmas Mass at Notre Dame decades ago with a Parisian friend. This darkly sweet incense fragrance is prayerful richness in scent form, leaving me smelling of frankincense, oranges and chocolate. @filippo_sorcinelli

Darren Alan of Darren Alan perfumes

  • Thanks Karl and Rachel for this great review, Arquiste A grove by the sea sounds interesting and inviting, the green nature, air and sea sounds excellent.
I’d like to smell in extremis if i win, it sounds captivating.
    EU

  • Noeme Paris Kalahari Extreme and Francesca Bianchi The Mariner’s Rhyme both piqued my interest because they sound like fragrances with a sense of place… for 2025, take me away please, haha.

If I’m so lucky as the win the draw, Darren Allen’s Songes à Fleurs would be my top pick. I am intrigued that he makes some of his own materials and I do often enjoy perfumes that harken back to vintage styles. I’m in the USA, thank you you for the draw!

  • Please count me in for Astrophil & Stella’s In Extremis. Sounds like the perfect signature fragrance for this winter and the cold weather in my country.
    Thanks! Europe

The year of the Extraits is what 2024 felt like. Every big seller fragrance and entire collections got their beefier extrait counterpart to those who always want more (we all do). Again I see a few usual suspects from other lists as well as a few new ones sprinkled in. Oud For Greatness Neo and Guidance 46 are too I immediately want to try as I love the originals where they came from. Arquiste is a house that’s been around for a bit but their last few releases are really putting them on the map as they have been nothing short of excellent. I find myself needing to try all of them from this list as I haven’t smelled any unfortunately. I’m going for Darren Alan’s Songes A Fleurs as I do agree he takes his job very seriously and it’s always creating innovative scents and notes/accords. I’m located in the USA.

  • Thank you for the nice overview and reviews.

I’m familiar with Oud for Greatness Neo which smells great and is brighter than the original version.

I’d love to try Encens Suave Extrait, The Hedonist Extrait de Parfum, Iconofly Personne, In Extremis, Mariner’s Rhyme.

Brands I want to try are Arquiste, Eveilleur Parfums, Noeme Paris, Quartana.

I’d love to win IN EXTREMIS by Astrophil & Stella as I adore smoky leathery fragrances and the previous work of the perfumer Meo Fusciuni 🙂

    I’m from EU.

  • Karl and Rachel’s picks really show how vibrant and diverse the fragrance world has become in 2024. I love how Karl highlighted Extraits as the big trend of the year, he’s so right, the richer, more concentrated formulations are really something special. Amouage Guidance 46 and Matière Première Encens Suave Extrait immediately caught my eye; they sound like absolute powerhouses I’d love to experience.

Rachel’s list is equally inspiring, I’m especially drawn to Darren Alan’s Honeysuckle Summer, which seems like such a personal and nostalgic creation. Her description of Francesca Bianchi’s The Mariner’s Rhyme also transported me straight to the seaside. I’ve tried some of her work before, and it’s always so emotional and layered.

As for what I’d like to win, IN EXTREMIS sounds incredible, a daring, smoky yet delicate composition that feels so unique. I’d love to have the chance to delve into its complexity!

    I am from the EU

  • I’m a fan of Filippo Sorcinelli and his take on incense. Notre Dame Notte di Natale sounds wonderful with its frankincense, oranges and chocolate. I’m also interested in A Grove By The Sea with its “air, sea and soil” notes. My wishlist is most definitely getting longer. In Extremis would be by choice, if lucky. MI USA

  • To begin, I am from the US. I keep forgetting to say that, so I will say it now. Regarding the fragrances that were put into the lists, 2 caught my attention that I will comment on. Amouage Guidiance 46 is the first one that I would try if given the oppertunity. It seems to be an ode to world of arab desserts. I have heard of jammy roses, but sticky roses is a new concecpt for me to awe over. The other one I want to talk about is Blue Marble. I like that the accords represent the natural world around us. I like that. If I were to win, I would like to recieve Absolue de Mousse. Thank you for the consistant giveaways and post times.

  • wonderscent.mari says:

I love this list. I will be trying most of the items on the list including BDK Parfums Rouge Smoking Extrait which to me sounds a bit more dark and seductive than the og, which is also my favorite.Kilian Paris Sunkissed Goddess also is one I would love to try because I love Tiare flower & coconut fragrances and this one sounds a gorgeous & luxurious beachy scent! Last but not least Areej le Doré Paradise Soil sparkled my interest and I want defently to sniff it! This sounds absolutely phenomenal! I am super intrigued how the musk mingles with the tuberose.
Thank you for this generous giveaway! I would love to win Astrophil & Stella’s In Extremis, I’ve heard only good things about it. It sounds like a magical and absolutely enchanting, rich and deep fragrance.
Wishing a Happy New Year to everyone!
    I live in Germany EU

  • 2024 truly felt like the year of the Extraits, with nearly every major fragrance and collection introducing more intense Extrait versions—perfect for those of us who always crave a little extra (don’t we all?). Once again, I see some familiar favorites from other lists alongside intriguing newcomers. Oud For Greatness Neo and Guidance 46 are at the top of my must-try list, given how much I love their original inspirations. Arquiste, a well-established house, has really been making waves lately with its recent standout releases, which have been nothing short of exceptional. It’s a bit unfortunate I haven’t had the chance to experience any of the fragrances on this list yet, but I’m especially drawn to Darren Alan’s Songes A Fleurs—his dedication to crafting innovative scents and accords is truly impressive. Wishing you all the best and a happy New Year ahead! Greetings from NY 😉

  • it’s nice to see that even if these top 10 are all different, at least a Meo Fusciuni fragrance finds always his place.
I tried In extremis in a perfumery in my town, and I loved it almost immediately.
Green and aromatic in the beginning, seems a bright and elegant perfume, then it transforms in a leather/smoke/animalic smell, and then it changes again becoming a flowery/woody scent.
I adore this alternation of light and shadow, I really want the chance to have a full bottle.
    I’m from Italy.

  • I am glad that In extremis created by Meo Fusciuni is in your list, I love the work of Giuseppe Imprezabile (viole nere).
I would like to win this perfume, I live in France, EU.

  • Karl and Rachel’s Top 10 Perfumes of 2024 list is quite intriguing! They have a knack for highlighting unique and captivating scents that keep me fascinated by the world of perfumery so that definitely sparked my interest. I would love to try and win Songes à Fleurs. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • I’ve been always intrigued by Daren Allan perfumes but I haven’t tried any so far. I’m really interested in Honeysuckle Summer. It sounds amazing. I was happy to sample new Rogue Absolue de Mousse and it was amazing. A bit similar to the Mousse Illuminee at least how much I could gauge from a sample. But I would love to have a full bottle, so I’m choosing that one for the giveaway. I’m from Illinois US.

  • I have tried absolutely nothing in these lists but I am hoping to soon get my nose on Initio Oud for Greatness Neo, Amouage Guidance 46, Astrophil & Stella In Extremis, Matière Premiere Encens Suave Extrait, Frederic Malle Hope, and Noème Paris Kalahari Extrême. I live in Ohio USA and would be happy to win IN EXTREMIS because I love Meo Fusciuni.

  • Thanks Karl and Rachel for this great review. I enjoyed both listed. Astrophil & Stella’s In Extremis. Sounds like a perfect fragrance for winter. Thank you for this chance USA

  • I’ve tried a few of Karl’s picks and while they are great they are not for me. So I think this will be a good thermometer for ruling out some scents. Rachel’s picks are more up my alley. This list made me want to try Blue Marble and Mariner’s Rhyme. I would love to win Songes a Fleurs and I am in Honolulu, Hi.

  • Congrats for this articles. I found them so interesting, that helps to understand you more 🙂 I still haven’t tried it, but wish to smell In extremis cause it seems to be evocative. I love the fact that we’re talking more and more about art and painters. I am from Eu.

  • Eris.can.swatch.kaos says:

I do love a good list! These listed have some I’m familiar with and many I’ve yet to discover. Rouge Smoking Extrait is one that has been on my must-buy list ever since I first heard of it’s existence. Soleil Invisible is another that hasn’t gone by unnoticed. I’m interested in In Extremis for the draw as I’m intrigued by the complexity of the composition. I live in Oregon.

  • There was so much difference between Rachel and Carl but I enjoyed reading all of their top 10 of 2024. ICONFLY is a brand I am not familiar with but I know who Alexandre The perfume chronicles is from long ago and bought makeda in Jovoy
I really think my taste is more aligned with Rachel who chose St.Clair, Rogue and darren alan. That being said I really want to win astrophil and stella in extremis because I own their mellow yellow and Madame M.
And then there is Caravaggio and Meo fusciuni. USA

  • Happy new years to everyone!

I think out of all of these lists my tastes are most similar to Rachel and again I appreciate the time it takes to create these lists.

  • There seem to be quite a few perfumes on these lists that harken to nature, and I’m here for it! DSCVR intrigues me as I love resins. Arquiste Grove by the Sea also sounds delightful. I love Francis Kurkdjian’s work, so I will definitely check out New Look in 2025. Also I keep seeing Venice Rococco mentioned, and it sounds like something opulent that I would love. But the one that caught my attention the most was the work of Darren Alan. I love Honeysuckle so will definitely give it a try, but I’d love to win Songes a Fleurs. I also love Rogue Perfumery’s throwback perfumes, so would love to try Mousse Absolute. Thanks to the perfumers who contributed prizes, and the writers who come up with these great lists!

  • I am in the US and am interested in IN EXTREMIS or Songes a Fleurs. Love the list, and hoping to discover some of these gems in 2025!

  • Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! My choice would be Amouage Guidance 46. Wishing everyone good luck and looking forward to discovering more about these incredible fragrances. Cheers to 2025! I am from Europe.

  • I love the variety of these year end lists. I did buy Venice Rococo. I am excited to try Darren Allen’s Songes a Fleurs. Thank you for a great drawing! USA

  • Nice list, dscvr me eveilleur sounds excellent to me, the summery sea breeze and freshness all captured into a single bottle, it’s a masterpiece, but i’d like to smell Rogue Absolue de Mousse if i win, it sounds very interesting
    I am from serbia, EU

  • A Grove by the Sea looks amazing. With notes such as olive and clay, it really has a unique feel. I was excited to have entered the last giveaway for an Astrophil and Stella fragrance, but this one seems even better! I would love to win a bottle of In Extremis. It seems like my kind of scent. Greece, EU.

  • goknitintheocean says:

    Hi there,

Have tried none of these yet; so I’m thinking today for some reason that the most enticing are DSCVR Me, A Grove by the Sea, and A Mariner’s Rhyme…My wife just sprayed her wedding fragrance in the other room; maybe the ocean, beach rose notes of that are getting under my skin? Blue Marble is intriguing, as well! Thanks to you both for writing these thoughtful scent descriptions. Songes a Fleurs seems like it would be my first choice, if I win the drawing. There’s always something about new talent in any creative undertaking. Darren sounds like he’s very accomplished, already.

Thanks and a Happy New Year to all. I live in NYC/USA.

    Deborah

  • i have not met Astrophil and Stella scents irl, but In extremis sounds great. i love incense a lot. and thanks for your great work at cafleurebon!
    i live in EU

  • Karl and Rachel highlighted some 2024 fragrances I’m excited to try and I enjoyed how Karl presented his selections by season. I’m intrigued by “the eye of the storm” impact of DSCVR Me, the play of light and dark in Astrophil & Stella In Extremis, Encens Suave Extrait’s tenacious take on incense, and the green herbal aspect of A Grove By The Sea. From Rachel’s list, I want to try Absolue de Mousse in these cold months (I love the original Mousse Illuminee), Blue Marble is one of the few St. Clair fragrances I haven’t tried yet, I love the concept of Soleil Invisible, and I can picture the glowing scene of Notre Dame Notte di Natale.

I’m in the USA. If I were to win, I’d choose Rogue Perfumery Absolue de Mousse. Happy new year!

  • Oof these lists are so exciting! I can’t wait for the next ones. So much to discover or to savor with ones you do have and love. It’s always interesting to learn what people love and the group they decide upon. There is definitely some that seem to cross all tastes and you just know it’s a classic in the making, I believe Astrophil & Stella IN EXTREMIS is one judging from these lists and my experience with his other fragrances. Therefore that’s my choice if I am so lucky to win! Besides I have the other two and they are amazing!!!
    I am in the USA

  • foreverscents says:

Both Karl and Rachel mentioned an Arquiste fragrance, which has inspired me to delve further into this house. I am a big fan of Nanban, so I know they produce brilliant fragrances. Iconofly’s Personne sounds very intriguing to me, as I am a fan of Greek mythology.
Rachel’s description of Big Blue Marble from St. Clair Scents piqued my interest. I have tried Eve and Pandora from this house and they are magnificent.
I would choose In Extremis if I were the winner of the draw.
    I live in the USA.

  • I agree that 2024 saw a plethora of extrait versions of som many be;obedient fragrances. Karl and Rachel have some great scents on their lists. I already own a few fragrances from Rogue Perfumery and have been interested in Darren Allen Perfumes since I first read about him on the blog. I would love to own Astrophil and Stella In Extremis. This scent and has made so many top ten lists. MD, USA.

  • Thank you for another pair of wonderful lists for us to peruse and reflect on. So many wonderful releases this year and there are always a few that slipped by, as did The Mariner’s Rhyme by Francesca Bianchi. I’ll definitely have to hunt down a sample of that one. It’s always great to see Rogue and Darren Alan recognized as well. I’m a lover of neo-vintage and they are masters at the craft! The releases mentioned and featured in the giveaway are wonderful and should be in the collections of all who love the classics. That said, if I were chosen I’d go with Astrophil & Stella In Extremis because I have yet to try anything from Meo Fusciuni and I am dying to see what their work is like. (And I already have the other two. lol). Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • So many of these sound incredible! I really love the beautiful descriptions in the review on Killian’s Sunkissed Goddess perfume, especially since I feel so kindred with neroli! A Grove by the Sea by Arquiste sounds so refreshing and delightful and sophisticated. I love the way the bottle looks! And I also think I would fall in love with Honeysuckle Summer by Darren Alan! It sounds dreamy, like the days when you over romanticized things because you were watching the 80s Anne of Green Gables.
I am entering the draw to win a bottle of Songes à Fleurs by Darren Alan. From Portland, USA.

Happy new year, Karl and Rachel!! Some of my favorites on here including Sunkissed Goddess and Rouge Smoking Extrait! I’m in the US and would love to try In Extremis!

  • Have to agree with Rachel about the Mariner’s Rhyme. It is a beautiful fragrance. I’ve become interested in earthy perfumes. Would be interested in trying Rogue Perfumery’s Absoule de Mousse. Located in the USA.

  • I enjoy learning more about our reviewers by the kinds of scents they select… whether gourmand, more refined, more nature- inflected or spicy or floral. The outdoors draws me in DSCVR me, Sun-kissed Goddess, Absolue de Mousse, Iconofly Personne, A Grove By the Sea, and Kalahari, Mariner’s Rime, and Blue Marble, who wants to be left behind for a midnight Christmas mass at Notre Dame (Notto di Natal), Guidance 46 or Rouge Smoking Extrait! So many wonderful scents, so little time! I would love to try In Extremis. I’m in the us.

  • As Karl says, 2024 has been the year of extraits (many on his list) but I’m not sure why: charging more, a taste for more intense perfumes,… I’ll leave the answer to the experts. I like Karl’s division by seasons; we all use one perfume or another depending on the season and some essences manage to last all year round. An extremely intense, powerful perfume as K says is Amouage Guidance 46 by Mr. Bisch. As a lover of Immortelle (thanks Mr. Corticchiato) I am very happy to discover Éveìlleur parfums and their release DSCVR Me by Olivier Cresp: he also adds lentisque to the formula, another fav of me. Rachel highlights the abundance of independent and artisanal perfumes. The megamaster Rodrigo Flores Roux made it in Karla an Rachel list with 2 Arquiste juices: Venice Rococo(soft animalic, floral and aldehydes) and A Grove By The Sea( mood boosting with air, sea, soil brushes). And at least, Mr. Kurkdjian reign at Chanel made it to a list with New Look 2024 with refinement and sharp elegance. He also, by the way, did a great job in his maison with Absolue Pour Le Soir. I would like to win Astrophil & Stella IN EXTREMIS. I live in Spain, EU. Happy 2025 everyone!

  • Karl’s and Rachel’s selection of the Top 10 Perfumes of 2024 is inspiring and showcases the diverse creativity in the world of niche and artisanal fragrances. Among the perfumes mentioned, Rogue Perfumery Absolue de Mousse truly captivated me. The description of its earthy, smoky, and autumnal atmosphere resonates deeply with my love for natural and grounded scents. I appreciate the idea of a fragrance that evokes the raw beauty of nature, like bare trees and wet earth, and I would love to experience its unique composition. I live in the EU and would like to enter the draw for Rogue Perfumery Absolue de Mousse. Thank you for the opportunity and for sharing such a beautiful list of fragrances!

  • DSCVR me has my attention for the link to the Croatian Coast. I agree that Grove by the Sea is amazing. Sounds uplifting. I need to check out Sunkissed Goddess, maybe because I have a beach trip reserved for spring. I will revisit Venice Rococo after seeing this on Rachel’s list. I do remember the powder from sampling it awhile back. So many great suggestions to try. If I am lucky in this new year, I would choose Songes A Fleurs. USA.

Wow some perfumes here I need to smell! it’s lovely to see everyones tastes, really have to smell Iconofly & In Extremis from Karl’s. Rachel has a few like St. Clairs, Quartana & Arquiste.

As its been on everyones lists ive got to stick my name in for In Extremis! Bublin in Dublin

  • Two intriguing lists, each with exactly zero scents I’ve sampled! Rachel’s selections especially jumped out at me — I’ve had a mind to explore St. Clair for some time, Rogue is a house I want to delve deeper into after falling in love with Rostracto, and the Sorcinelli appeals as always to my ever-complicated relationship to Catholicism. Reading Karl’s list, my eyes immediately jumped to DSCVR me, as I was born in Croatia; the notes (including my beloved immortelle and lentisque/mastic) remind me of something from Parfum d’Empire, a connection I see another commenter has beaten me to!

If I were to win, I’d be delighted to receive In Extremis; I’m US-based.

  • Well, I finally see one I have sampled! (Grove by the Sea). As usual, love hearing others’ opinions and experiences and have edited my Want To Try List some more. This could get expensive… Blue Marble is one of the most intriguing ones this round for me, and Honeysuckle Summer definitely sounds like one I need to try out. And Notre Dame Notte di Natale is right up my alley too, so added to that list. If chosen, I would love to try Absolue de Mousse. I live in the US.

  • I love how Karl broke down his top ten list by season. While I’ve tried Oud for Greatness, The Hedonist, and Guidance, I have not tried the flankers that were released in 2024. I love Guidance, so I’m sure I would love Guidance 46. I love Karl’s brief description of The Hedonist Extrait; it does sound like the perfect fragrance for a crisp spring morning! I have not tried any of Karl’s summer favorites, but DSCVR Me sounds beautiful. Karl describing it as being “within the eye of the storm” just makes me want to try it even more. Sunkissed Goddess really stands out to me with its notes of tiare, ylang-ylang, and coconut. This sounds like a must-try for me! I’ve only tried Rouge Smoking from Karl’s autumn picks, but I have not tried the extrait. As he mentioned before his list, it really was the year of extraits! Once again, I’ve only tried Encens Suave but not the extrait. I am really intrigued by FM Hope from Karl’s winter picks.

I loved reading through Rachel’s top ten list. I have only tried Rococo from her list, which is a really beautiful fragrance. Honeysuckle Summer sounds so good – I love honeysuckle and honey. I am sure it evokes carefree summer days. Rachel’s description of Absolue de Mousse immediately makes me want to have it, as it radiates a “complex atmosphere of bare trees, cold air, wet earth with hay and tobacco nuances like a campfire that has been doused in the distance”. This sounds right up my alley and truly stunning. Blue Marble also sounds stunning and naturally beautiful. I will have to try New Look 2024, as the combination of sparkling aldehydes and frankincense appeals to me.

I am having such a hard time deciding between Absolue de Mousse or Songes à Fleurs. I would love to be considered for either one of them. If I had to choose just one, I might go with Songes à Fleurs since it will be perfect for spring.

Thank you, Karl and Rachel, for sharing your top ten lists. Thank you to all of the perfumers/houses for their generous giveaways! I am located in the USA.

  • I loved reading through all of your reviews and I am especially drawn to Rogue Perfumery Absolute de Mousse and Blue Marble by St Clair. I love an ode to nature. If chosen I would pick the Rogue I live in the US.

  • I found Karl’s and Rachel’s Top 10 Perfumes of 2024 to be an inspiring and diverse list that perfectly reflects the innovation and creativity we’ve seen in the fragrance world this year. What truly sparked my interest was the inclusion of In Extremis by Astrophil & Stella. I’ve always admired this house for their poetic approach to perfumery, and this fragrance sounds absolutely captivating. Its blend of vibrant florals and dark resins sounds both bold and poetic—exactly the kind of fragrance I love discovering.
Furthermore, I admire Giuseppe Imprezzabile’s work and his realistic representation of Caravaggio through this perfume.
In extremis is now at the top of my must-try list. If I were to win, this would be my choice. Thank you for highlighting such unique creations!
