The 3 Luca Maffei Perfumes You Should be Wearing + Jacques Fath Rosso Epicureo, Gabriella Chieffo Ragu and Perris Monte Carlo Cedro di Diamante Draw

Much has been written about multi award winning Luca Maffei,  and his lineage in Italian perfumery. His life coloured and constructed like light thrown through the prism of perfume from a young age, to his present days as a multi award winning perfumer, Luca Maffei is a prolific and driven genius. He is one of those artists  that create over and over again, seemingly able to aesthetically extend their reach into the very essence of the medium they work in. Achieving harmonic is first nature to them.

Rosso Epicureo (2017) Fath’s Essentials Rosso Epicureo is all understated presence, beautifully attired and radiating femininity, graceful and full of power. That moment when all eyes are averted and conversations stall, as she enters poised, exuding confidence. The promenade on Parisian streets and the pause in the doorway, prior to entrance. All eyes, all attentions in the moment of held breath, captured by this ‘sensualis incarnate’. Kir Royal Accord, Blackcurrant excited by Sichuan pepper in a vibrant and youthful energy. Each step within the crowded room in slow motion, dress linen inching its caress around curves, sweeping whispers of fine fabric on gentrified floor, is a classic elegance. The tuberose at its core is tight fitting, hour glass intimacy, tense and divulging, accessorized refinement with Damask Rose and florals so undeniably feminine.

Jacques Fath ball gown, 1951

A lingering tender drape across marble perfect shoulders. True to Jacques Fath’s Couture heritage and legacy, Luca Maffei has crafted the feeling of Haute Couture as an intimate embrace on skin. Moulded tissue in earthy silkiness continues for hours, Patchouli enveloped in a shawl of gauze amber and creamy vanilla. An unadulterated distillation of an era, Rosso Epicureo waves a begloved slender wrist at a time of alluring feminine presence. In the wearing I feel elevated and statuesque. Notes: Kir Royal Accord, Bitter Orange, Bergamot, Plum, Tuberose Absolute, Rosa Damascena, Orange Blossom, Jasmin, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, Amber, Vanilla, Muscone Laevo

Ragu, (2015) Gabriella Chieffo: A hearth speaks volumes, a Home gathers in. Homecoming, when all those familiar sights come into view, residing in eyes, yet more so opening the dossiers of the heart. Returning to the safe havens, Ragu is unmistakably Italian, Luca Maffei and Gabriella Chieffo place Ragu firmly in the Italian kitchen, the arena of the Italian Woman, it is commanding in its spicy, rich, warm, inviting welcome.  Embraced by Tuscan slopes, the scents of warmed stones, wind stirred cypress and cedar, and the herbal effusiveness, heated spice concoction welded with an ambrosial saffron, conjures the convivial atmosphere.

Firmly steeped in the tradition of Italian nourishment, Ragu just like its namesake, of fresh tomato and steeped herbs, simmers for hours on the skin, it is strong and unassailable, yet with a constancy of warmth, Italian Mama style. Leather, musk, cumin and vanilla, call in the gathering of days and memories, nestled in the arms of contentment, like the foraged armfuls of herbs and citrus adorning this sanctuary of La Belle Vita. Even after sleeping it lingers in definite consistency, as Home.

Notes: Orange, Bergamot, Pink Pepper, Black Pepper, Cloves, Elemi, Cardamom, Saffron,  Leather, Cedar, Cashmere Wood, Patchouli, Cypriol Oil or Nagamotha, Musk, Cumin and Vanilla.

Cedro di Diamante (2018) Perris Monte Carlo: Focused on the Calabrian Cedro di Diamante citrus, this is a wholly unique burst of citric green ebullience, a sparkling rendition that is bright and effervescent, intense and utterly delicious. High on a Calabrian hillside, the artist-ready, tumbled yellow fruit in terracotta bowls, a zestful citrus feast, a veritable Bacchanalia of Cedro, Lime, Lemon and Verbena laid out under a Pergola as heliacal light merges with a turquoise sea, dipping into the horizon. Insects of evening infusing the air with the ensemble of heated climes.

Citrus Fruits: by Bartolomeo Bimbi formerly preserved in the Villa of the Medici family in Poggio a Caiano, in Prato.   (Photo by George Tatge for Alinari/Seat Archive/Alinari Archives)

A spritz of ginger, cardamom and pepper revives in the twilight hour, escorting into a satiated dusk, with a beautifully constructed Iris, Musk and Oakmoss, which leaves one pleasure-filled vanquished on scattered cushions. Cedro di Diamante is Luca Maffei’s modern portal to the Hesperides gardens and true to the Ancient Romans considerations of the rich, abundant status of citrus. • Luca is a talented perfumer, I like his creations. I own Rosso Epicuero. It is stunning! I'd love to win a bottle of Cedro di Diamante-Gian because it seems to be that kind of citrusy perfume I would enjoy. Don't have any citrusy scents in Luca's Interpretation..I am in Germany

  • ElenaChiss says:

My favourite of the bunch I think it would be Cedro di Diamante as it reflects very well my love for Italy with that burst of stylish freshness. I am in EU. Thanks!

  • Among his many creations I've only smelled L'Attesa very briefly and I remember it was quite a gorgeous iris. I would love to discover more of his work and find out what his style is like. Thanks for the reviews of these perfumes and I think Rosso Epicureo appeals to me most. Thank you for the draw! I live in EU.

  • Oh my … Cedro di Diamante sounds lovely. Any fragrance described as "rich, abundant status of citrus" has my attention. I am drawn to Cedro di Diamante by the sparkling citrus and it is the one I would love to win. Thanks for the opportunity! USA

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

I have followed his work–and what a resume he has built these past few years!  His creations for Carthusia and Olibere are especially interesting.  I expect that Cedro di Diamante would be my favorite of the trio, and that is the one I would select as it contains so many of my favorite notes, but Ragu with its savory herbals intrigues me, too, and I will have to track down a sample.  Thank you to the houses for this most generous draw!  I live in the US.

  • Rosso Epicureo sounds right up my alley…divine, with the tuberose and the berries. Although I have to say Ragu is extremely tempting too. Thank you for the draw! From EU.

  • Just Add Light says:

Definitely feel myself more drawn to Cedro di Diamante, with its strong citrus presence, spicy touches and oakmoss.  A wonderful description by Danu and a perfect compliment for the upcoming warm weather in the northern hemisphere.  Only heard great things about Luca's work for JF and PMC, with my favourite being L'Attesa for Masque Milano.  I've yet to try Bois Mystique, but from what I hear, it's bound to be one of my favs.  Canada.

  • Ragu notes list intrigues me the most, but Cedro di diamante sounds just perfect for summer, citrus freshness, i would love to try it.  Thank you for the amazing draw, i am in the EU.

  • All three sound wonderful, but if I had to choose one, it would be Ragu. The hearth of an Italian kitchen, warm and inviting. Interesting play on the notes description. I mean come on….Italian Mamma style says it all! – USA

  • fazalcheema says:

Luca has come a long way in a short time, mostly working with niche brands since he seems to prefer creative freedom. I am most intrigued by Cedro di Diamante since it is the zestiest of all three mentioned in the article. Italians do citrus well so I have high hopes. My choice is Cedro de Diamante. I am in US.

  • DespinaVnt says:

I admire Luca Maffei's perfect balance between Italian perfumery tradition and innovation.

I'd be happy to have any of his three fragrances presented, especially Rosso Epicureo – Danu's wonderful description as a sublime, delicious cocktail makes it irresistible to me.

Thank you for the beautiful piece and draw, I live in EU ( France).

  • I love that loves freedom to create, which helps a perfumer create the best fragrances! i would love to win Ragu, I love that its about warmth and hearth and utterly feminine! I live in the USA

  • I love that Luca Maffei is a prolific and driven genius and is one of those artists that create over and over again. He’s done a great job creating and definitely loves what he does. My choice will be Cedro de Diamante.

    i live in USA.

  • NiceVULady says:

Mamma Mia, Luca is creating such beautiful and entrancing scents that it is almost impossible to select one. The scent of the hearth, haut coutour, citrus explosions..what to choose.  It is the description of Cedro di Diamante that connects with me, especially as summer approaches,  "… a wholly unique burst of citric green ebullience, a sparkling rendition that is bright and effervescent, intense and utterly delicious." Sigh!   Thanks for the draw and a great review.  I'm in the USA

  • Thank you so much for fixing the Captcha to log in! It works wonderfully now 🙂 Very much appreciated!

These fragrances allll sound spectacular…and while I would be most drawn to the Rosso, it has tuberose and of that note I am quite wary if it is unsniffed. So I am thus most drawn to Cedro di Diamante for its evocative description – as there is always joy to be had from zesty citrus and GINGER. Oh my goodness do I love ginger.

It would be lovely to win. Thank you for the draw. I am in Melbourne Australia

  • Freesia Rose says:

I was introduced to the work of the wonderfully talented Luca Maffei after receiving a sample of L’Attesa from Masque Milano. It is such a beautiful and well put together scent that definitely lives up to the description! I am very interested in trying Rosa Epicureo, the notes and description definitely speak to me. Thank you for the chance to take part in this draw and good luck to everyone! I live in the UK.

  • Monica Beaton says:

Another wonderful descriptive review Danu – and gorgeous artwork and pics Michelyn. What an incredible body of work created by Luca – all very different to appeal to all tastes. Me – Rosso Epicureo sounds sexy, sensual and perfect for our upcoming cooler months. I live in Australia.

  • I am most interested in Ragu – because i love the Italian  kitchen, but I am still quite new to the world of fragrances and am therefor very intrigued how this fragrance „works“, and how an Italian himself envisions a Tuscan scenery. I live in Germany.

  • Thank you for putting the spotlight on Luca Maffei. I really enjoy Masque Milano Lattesa. I would love to win Rosso Epicureo from Jacque Fath

    I live in the USA

  • Luca has quite the resume of perfume (I looked it up). From this article I'm drawn to the  Cedro di Diamante (draw choice). Thank you. US

  • doveskylark says:

I always love to read about prolifoc and creative perfumers. All of the fragrances described here sound tantalizing, but the pepper notes of Ragu interest me the most…and since I can't eat pasta anymore, I guess wearing something that recalls it is the next best thing.

    I live in the USA.

  • I love that Luca is passionate about raw materials and does his best to make his perfumes show the colourful scenes from his life in Italy (well, that's my impression). Speaking of which, I'd be happy to win Cedro di Diamante because it seems like a perfect olfactory image of the Italian countryside.

Thank you for the draw. I live in Russia

  • I do not know anything by Luca Maffei, but Rosso Epicureo I think it would fit my taste as I have tried a few from the house of Jacques Fath and I like them all.

I am in EU. Thank you!

  • I too have followed his work since the EIC brought him to our attention!  I have one of these already and adore it, Cedro di Diamante. Tough choice as to which I would be honored to win but I think I will go with Rosso Epicureo.

  • RaePerfumeSoul says:

Few years back I only knew about designer perfume and never knew the names of any perfumers.

I appreciate that blogs like this and other channels have brought the main creators in the limelight.

I would love to try any of them, if I have to choose one it would be Cedric Di Diamante.

    I am in United Kingdom.

  • andalabanda says:

I am familiar with Luca's work for Jul et Mad and Carthusia, and I own (and love) Histoire Des Parfums' This is not a Blue Bottle 1.2 (I am also getting the 1.5 from Scentbird next month :)). I think his work is an interesting mix of contemporary perfumery with a slight classical vibe, and even his perfumes ar work of arts they can appeal to a variety of feminine typologies. I would love to win Rose Epicureo or, even better, Ragu. Ragu sauce is the rich, red, spicy and warm heart of Italian cuisine. In my mind, this my smell like a modern Gina Lollobrigida shaking her huge hoops earring and singing a canzonetta while finishing pasta with ragu for a lover who will stop by for dinner. I live in the USA.

  • It's great to read about a perfumer's successful accomplishments. I'm looking forward to more of his creations. I'm interested in Cedro di Diamante, if lucky. Thanks for another fabulous article and draw. USA

  • Luca seems to be at home in the fragrance industry.  Like he was made especially to do this for us all.  Rosso Epicureo sounds beautiful and dressy.  I would love to wear it!  Thank you for the chance to win. I'm in the USA.

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

Thanks for the article. Luca Maffei creations speak itself. All the three sound amazing, RAGU is more enticing due to my taste. Thanks for the generosity & draw, count me in please. My choice is Maison Gabriella Chieffo RAGU. I live in Pakistan.

  • Wow.. all 3 sounds amazing. I have yet to try any of Lucas creation.  One house that stands is Perris Monte Carlo as  I have a small bottle of Bois de Oud that's almost empty and plan to buy a full bottle of it. So if I had to choose the one that intrigues me most so far its Cedro di Diamante

  • To my knowledge, the only perfumes  of Luca Maffei I’ve tried so fare are the This is not a blue bottle ones from  Histoire des Parfums, which have rapidly become some of my favorites. I would be astonished to win the Cedro di Diamante. I live in The Netherlands, Europe

  • Never tried any of Luca Maffei's creations, so I would like to try Cedro di Diamante, which sounds refreshing, sparkling and versatile. From Finland.

  • WaltherP99 says:

    As a fan of  Luca Maffei , and a frag-head i closely follow his work.Atm i do own 4 fragrances composed by him , and i want ~10 more.What i got:

    1) Oud Imperial by Perris Monte Carlo

    2) Bois Mystique by Houbigant .Bought it because of Sebastian did a great review.

    3) Terra Mia by Carthusia

    4) L'Attesa by Masque Milano – one of top 3 iris fragrances ever created.

Cedro di Diamante is a fragrance i know , and really like.Super fresh , zingy natural smelling scent.Absolutely perfect for the summer , but also for the office , and business meetings. My choice for sure.

Now i do follow @maison_gabriella_chieffo too.Already follow all other profiles.

    Thank you for the opportunity.

Virginia USA , or London UK….at least 97/100 times

  •  What appeals to me about Luca maffei and his creations  or what I have tried they are very unique compared to what I'm used to. The  One I would love a shot at winning is Gabriella Chieffa Ragu thank you for the chance.

    I am in the USA

  • To all you wonderful people… thank you so much for all your responses. Wishing you all luck in the draw, Luca is indeed a fabulous perfumer, talented and a wonderful human.

  • The 1 Luca Maffei perfume you should be wearing is TERRA MIA for Carthusia, that one shows his talent and deep understanding for Italian dolce vita life-style. After wearing Terra I want to try out his other scents, especially citrusy ones. My choice for the draw is Cedro di Diamante, sounds so perfect for the hot summer. Thank you. EU

  • Luca Maffei became a star because of his almost Godly creation called L'attesa Masque Milano . I do like iris fragrances – sure , but L'attesa blew me away. One of the very few niche fragrances i bought 5 min. after the first spray.

I know 2 of the 3 brands represented in this draw – Jacques Fath , and Perris Monte Carlo.Maison Gabriella Chieffo is a brand i'm not familiar with.

Bois d’Oud is 10/10 fragrance-love the plum in this one.I do have nice 30ml decant -fantastic scent – gets me nice amount of compliments. Also have 30 ml decant of Essence de Patchouli too. Both from Perris Monte Carlo .

I do know not all , but most Perris Monte Carlo fragrances , but not Carlo Cedro di Diamante .Sebastian did a review on Youtube a few months back , and now because of Danu nice job i'm 100% sure i'll sample it.Hope i'll be able to win it first 🙂
Tnx for the generous giveaway. Will check all IG profiles.
Last few months non-stop back and forth between USA and Scotland (EU/UK)
1 week in US->one week in Scotland and so on.

  • Danu’s Choices are all new to me. Latesssa should be on this for sure and Nea. That’s my opinion. I really like Perris Monte Carlo and I have several including Rose Taif. Please enter me for Cedro Di Diamante. I read most about these on Cafleurebon and thank you for your great reviews.

  • I think that Luca Maffei is very talented, however, I have never tried any of his creations yet. If I would be as lucky to win, my choice is Carlo Cedro di Diamante. Thank you for the chance. I live in Europe.

  • I agree that Luca is one of the most talanted young perfumer as Cecile Zarokyan. I like his creations.

From this 3 perfumes I liked mosly Cedro di Diamante- like citrusy perfumrs.

I would like to win Perris Monte Carlo aCedro di Diamante.

    From  Armenia

  • Ivan.napoleon says:

Im not familiar with this house but It d be Great To win any!!! Everything is appealing. Miami Florida Thanks

  • These all sound nice but Cedro Di Diamante sounds most interesting to me. Would love to get a chance to check it out. Ive heard of Luca Maffei many times by reviewers. Mentioned a lot of good. Enjoyed the article and thanks for the giveaway. U.S

  • Luca is a very talented and prolific perfumer. I was first introduced to him was through L'Attessa and I immediately fell in love with his work. I also love Rose de Taif. The one that most appeals to me is Rosso Epicureo. My favorite line was: "Rosso Epicureo is all understated presence, beautifully attired and radiating femininity, graceful and full of power.  That moment when all eyes are averted and conversations stall, as she enters poised, exuding confidence." Thanks for the generous giveaway and I live in the US! 🙂

  • Each of the three fragrances profiled sounds beautiful in its own way, but the earth and comfort of Ragu really appeals to me in these cold days. It also sounds very different from my favorite of Luca’s creations – L’Attesa- which just illustrates his talent. I love that he’s able to construct fragrances that feel opulent without being heavy. I hope Ragu is another such fragrance. I’m in the US – thank you for the draw and reviews.

  • Luca is such a talent.  Thanks for highlighting some of his creations that I am not familiar with.  I agree with Aurora_ru that his Terra Mia is amazing!!  I want to say I'd love to win Rosa Epicurio because those notes really appeal to me, but just the name "Ragu" has got my interest.  I'd be happy to win either if I'm the lucky winner!  USA.  Thanks Danu!!

  • Mouthwatering description of Cedro di Diamante . Proud owner of Absolue d’Osmanthe Extrait here . I can’t describe how much I love this fragrance. To be honest it was a gift – it’s really expensive. I know some other offerings by Perris Monte Carlo – Bois d’Oud , Cacao Azteque and Oud Imperial, but Italian collection I’ve never smelled. Of course Cedro di Diamante is my choice. Gabriella Chieffs house is completely unknown to me. Jacques Fath I know well except the newest ones. Luca Maffei I know mostly for his work with Jul et Mad . I do like the house a lot- Garuda and Nea are the 2 Luca’s creations in my collection. Oh’ and judging by the comments I’m one of the few not familiar with L‘atessa . Thx to all involved in this giveaway. USA most of the year, and Germany from time to time

  • All three look interesting, but I choose Ragu – a sanctuary of La Belle Vita. A warm, rich, spicy fragrance conjuring the convivial atmosphere, spreading its joyful warmth and evoking memories of a family home is something I need right now. Thanks for the generous giveaway. I live in the EU.

  • What appeals to me about Luca Maffei creation is the take on Italian senses. I would choose Cedro di Diamante Gian Luca Perris.  Musk and Oakmoss, which leaves one pleasure-filled vanquished on scattered cushions. I live in CA, USA.
