Held over two days, August 15-16, Elements Showcase had two floors of fragrance to discover or re-discover. Senior Editor Ida Meister was also with me and between us we covered the event for CaFleureBon. For those of you who weren’t able to make it here are some of the sights and smells we found.
The Big Easy has been the seat of worldly pleasures for a long, long time. We know that the founders of Bourbon French Perfumery think so. But their Vetivert is smokin’… in the very best of ways. It’s feels jazz-age hot, but it’s as cool as the blues.
Liz Zorn said “The thing that I find most fascinating about American Perfumery today is the “Independent Spirit” of the lone perfumer creating an artistic body of work.” Her three latest releases are excellent examples of the way Ms. Zorn goes about creating fragrance and I found all three brought something different to the table
A trend that has sprung up over the past few years is new perfume lines driven by one person’s singular vision. The latest example of this comes from Celine Verleure and her new line of perfume Olfactive Studio.
When I received the press release that Ineke Ruhland of Ineke Perfumer would be the next co-production, with Anthropologie, I smiled quite widely.Being a gentlemen, I asked Ida Meister to pick her two. That left me Angel’s Trumpet and Scarlet Larkspur My inner Gollum muttering contentedly muttered “my precioussss.”
When Anthropologie and Ineke Rűhland join forces, quality is a given. Anthropologie has shown itself to be innovative in the choices of fragrance which grace their artful boutiques- brick-and-mortar, and also on-line. Ineke has created four beautiful new fragrances- not a single “meh” among them.
