StrangeLove NYC MeltmyHeart, LostinFlowers and DeadofNight photo by Sebastian
I discovered StrangeLove NYC (whose first perfume oil debuted in 2014) through our beloved editor Robert Herrmann, who passed away October 2019. He introduced me to lostinflowers. It was the only perfume he took to Esxence- 2018 the world renowned exhibition for artistic perfumery in Milan, (he received so many compliments he stopped counting). Knowing how much the perfume meant to Robert, late last year, I contacted owner and founder Elizabeth Gaynes, and featured her story as the 148th in the CaFleureBon American Perfumery Series.

“I decided that I wanted to start a perfume house that was purely about the quality of the perfume, using oud and other rare and unusual ingredients. When I told Helena Christenson about my plan to start a fragrance house, she asked to be a part of it and signed on as Creative Director”- Elizabeth Gaynes
Sustainable oud is used in every perfume and each is composed by perfumer extraordinaire and provocateur Christophe Laudamiel.

Meltmyheart (2016), a sumptuous gourmand is quickly becoming my personal favorite; the dusty cocoa¸ buttery orris and ylang feel plush and creamy. meltmyheart has a hint of oud and has become my go to “comfort scent” of late.

Strangelove lostinflowers (2017): To quote Robert “Dazzling, hypnotic, and sexy as hell, LostinFlowers is the sin qua non of white floral perfumes, ahh the gardenia, the champaca, enhanced by the slightest skank and depth of oud.

The brand launched in 2014 at Harrods’ Salon de Parfums with one pure perfume oil- deadofnight. This animalic oud is for those who like their ouds, well, oudy. The signature ingredient is used generously in its composition; in addition to the cool name deadofnight is a wonderful mix of natural ingredients as well as unusual synthetics, such as paradisone and wolf wood (used in MUGLER Aura for reference and has a dry woody like vibe). –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief
