Serge Lutens Clair de Musc Review

Almost everyone who loves perfume has a favorite Serge Lutens fragrance. My favorite is the magnificent Feminitie de Bois which was marketed under the Shiseido brand in 1992. A close runner up is the seldom reviewed Serge Lutens Douce Amere (2000). For most perfumistas including Editor Sebastian Jara, Serge Lutens Chergui was the gateway into the collection (2001). Serge Lutens Clair de Musc (2003), also created by in-house perfumer Christopher Sheldrake may not come to mind when you think “musk” and is seldom reviewed  (Muscs Kublai Khan (1998- an animalic musk is one many perfumistas know). Musk can be overpowering in hot weather.  So I mentioned to Sebastian that Clair de Musc is perfect for summer, an office situation (I know a  Vice President of a large department store that sells niche fragrances  who wears it almost daily) or when you want to be close to someone.  Shouting isn’t as effective as whispering–people lean in a little closer  You don’t have to growl, try purring –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

    This Lutens creation sounds perfect for the summer with its almost imperceptible projection. I appreciated Sebastian’s straightforward review and his simple explanation of clean vs animalic musk scents. This is a classic fragrance and I would love to add it to my Daim Blond and Datura Noir bottles. I live in the USA.

    I like how Sebastian really breaks down the notes. I think I last smelled this so early in my journey and thought it just smelled like Kiehl’s but more pricey. With the various soft accents Sebastian mentions, I’d love to revisit! Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

    Sounds like Claire de Musc has a wonderful drydown. Sebastian mentioned that it’s wearable during the warmer months. I’m a fan of Serge Lutens. Thanks for another great review and draw. USA

    I know how Sebastian loves his musk! I like how he described it as one for summer and close. I don’t usually wear musk in summer because of the heaviness and depth. I will have to try tossing this one on. I always think of musk for colder months; so, he made me think about it differently.

    Serge Lutens is one of the houses from which I have the most perfumes. I think I must have over 20 full bottles of different perfumes easily, with some having backups as well. I have MKK but have not tried Clair de Musc yet. This seems like a friendly musk from Sebastian’s review, one that is office friendly and can even be worn in summer unlike other musks that can be quite animalic in warm weather and not the best choice. I am from US.

    I do follow Sebastian for a long time – since his old , but not forgotten channel “Man Loves Cologne”.
    Fresh and floral start , iris , rose and jasmine in the base-interesting.Oh-almost forgot the sandalwood .
    From the brand i do own full bottles of Fille en Aiguilles ,Bapteme du Feu , vintage 2008 bottle of Chergui and Boxeuses from the bell like jars line.

    I do like the idea of more intimate, close to the skin musk , iris , jasmine and sandalwood fragrance. There’s time for fragrances like Clair de Musk , and the time is now. The weather is getting hot lately.

    Serge Luten has so many beautiful fragrances. My favorite Un bois vanille, Datura noir, and a la Nuit. I love musk. I still wear white musk! Sounds beautiful for the hot weather I live in Florida. Thanks Sabastian. Clean, musky, quite floral! Heaven.     In listening to Sebastian’s review, this sounds a lot like my favorite on my husband….Jovan Musk for men; soft, powdery musk, close to the skin, a bit floral. I’d love to compare this to Jovan Musk, which has gotten progressively weaker as the years have gone by. Perhaps this is a new signature scent for him…I’d think he’d love it! Thanks for the chance…

    Sebastian always puts out QUALITY video reviews on YouTube about different frags and my favorite……. PERFUME NOTES information (I learn so much from the videos you do with Bruno Fazzolari). For this, Sebastian is truly appreciated in the fragrance community. Serge Lutens is a house that is definitely on my list to discover and musk frags are my second favorite type of fragrances. I always trust Sebastian to do truthful reviews on frags that are compliment worthy and smell phenomenal.✌️

    I do appreciate Clair de Musk is not some animalic musky bomb. Instead we have cuddling , close to the skin combination of musk,iris and Jasmin. Good to know also Jasmine is not indolic.
    My personal favorite Serge Lutens fragrances are Fille en Aiguilles , Chergui of course, and Ambre Sultan.
    I’m sorry Michelin , but Feminite du Bois I’m a fan of. Something bothers me in this one.

    I have smelled Clair de Musk , and personally i don’t get jasmine , even slight traces of it. Think about beautiful bouquet of bergamot ,iris and neroli wrapped in clean musk. It’s a bit simplistic , yet classy at the same time.It’s suited for close encounters imo.
    My personal favorite Serge Lutens is Rahat Loukoum . Bought 2x30ml set. The jars looks good yes , but they are not practical .

    Serge Lutens = Un Bois Vanille and Jeux de Peau . Big fan of both . Wearing each I’m always reminded of my bakery. I’m Pastry Chef.
    I do admit I like my fragrances to project , but there’s time and place for fragrances like Clair de Musk. Business meetings , I also have 2 close friends sensitive to fragrances. For both occasions Clair de Musk will be perfect.

I know Sebastian adores big scents like I do but he describes this nicely and for the heat or office setting I’d like to try it out. My sisters Loved musk growing up I smelled every type of musk everyday and I grew to Love them. I’ve not tried this I’m surprised but hoping to soon. USA

    Loved Sebastian’s review (as always!) and really, really love the notes. I’ve never owned anything from Serge Lutens but this one sounds like the perfect scent to start with. It sounds like something I could wear day or night. Pretty and gentle. Plus, I love this quote – “Shouting isn’t as effective as whispering–people lean in a little closer You don’t have to growl, try purring”. What a GREAT way to describe a fragrance!!

    I do love the idea of Clair de Musc – clean , floral close encounters fragrance .
    Boxeuses and Rahat Loukoum are two of my all time favorite fragrances and i’ll never run out of both.I had 50ml Jeux de Peau in the past.

    Musk are iffy for me. I have yet to discover one that I really love on me. Maybe because Clair de Musc is a more clean and straightforward fragrance, it will be a winner for me. A light musk sounds personal and wouldn’t make me uncomfortable. Thanks for the giveaway. In the USA.

    This reminded me to be careful with my animalics in the summer. I love them so much, any season. But I need to be a bit more behind the scenes and softer in the humid summer. This one sounds like a good one to clean up with.

    Sebastian, great review of Serge Lutens Clair de Musc. A perfect light non animalic musk for the summertime with very little projection so you don’t offend anyone. A simple fragrance with light citrus and neroli in the top, a dominant powdery iris and jasmine in the heart, and a light musk and sandalwood to round out the fragrance. It sounds like a great summer scent.
