Scentologia Tra.ce. review

Scentologia Tra.ce via the brand

Recently Sr. Editor Karl Topham introduced us to Scentologia and their mission to marry art and science, sustainably in in his review of Syn.ergy.

Kévin Mathys from CPL Aromas Dubai is the nose for Scentologia Tra.ce. (he is also the perfumer for 2023’s Kajal Homme IV). “Kevin’s fragrant journey began in the beautiful landscapes of the French countryside, where, from a tender age, he was fascinated by the world of scents. One of his first fragrant memories was playing with all the colognes he could put his hands on and mixing and combining them. For Kévin, fragrances aren’t merely scents; they are emotional triggers that enable him to have a small but meaningful part in people’s lives and his creations draw inspiration from the richness of everyday life, be it a cherished memory, a soul-stirring song, or the breathtaking beauty of the natural world.”

“The beginning is the most exciting part of the process. “Creating Tra.ce. has been so enjoyable, using one of the most essential notes which is the Bulgarian Rose while combining an original Oud touch that allows you to experience this incredible balance between a leathery and a woody scent.”- Kévin Mathys on Scentologia Tra.ce.

Notes: Bergamot, Coriander, Bulgarian Rose, Orris, Oud, Alaskan Cedar, Cade

  • I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU. The mysterious part of this fragrance intrigued me and appeales to me. The mission to marry art and science sounds amazing, bulgarian rose is what one of the most beautiful notes in my opinion

  • I remember trying some fragrances of this house at the mall. I remember this one in particular stands out among the rest. It was strong, classy, n unique as it was described by the review in the video. I did liked it n hopefully I can win the giveaway

I am a man and proud to say I love floral fragrances. Now, I’ve never experienced what can be described by Steven as a calm fragrance so I’m interested in seeing what this one smells like. I also like Michelin mentioning it’s a marriage of a woody/leathery scent which could lean into a hit of POAL but it’s not, it’s more subtle. I do think this is a more summery fragrance so we are a bit out of season for it but the spring will be here before you know it. Cheers from NJ, USA.

  • Scentologia Tra.ce seems like an intimate composition, with iris and rose being the main stars. It is more suited to hot weather and it has woodsy elements, thanks to notes like cedarwood and agarwood. I am in US

  • Kevin Mathys is a young and talented perfumer, with a promising future .
I’m not familiar with the art and science house of Scentologia , personally I really like the clean and not too flashy presentation. Clean looking bottles , quality ingredients, working with talented perfumers … where can I buy the sample set?
Tra.ce I like because of the Bulgarian rose, iris , woods and the calm and fresh beauty Steven told us about.

Thank you Steven, Scentologia, Kevin Mathys

  • What I like about Steven’s review is that it seems like this fragrance is an enticing choice for enthusiasts of rose, iris, and wood-based scents (which is all about me). I also like that according Steven’s review, this fragrance avoids an animalic profile and offers a fresh twist through the presence of Coriander.

What appeals to me about Scentologia Tra.ce is the thoughtful fusion of classic floral elements like Bulgarian Rose and Orris with the depth of Oud and woody notes, promising a sophisticated yet fresh olfactory experience. The idea of emotional triggers in scent creation, drawing inspiration from cherished memories and nature’s beauty, adds an intriguing layer to the fragrance’s narrative, making it more than just a blend of scents but a vessel of personal stories and emotions, as it is said in the introduction.

I am from the EU (Germany).

  • I’m obsessed with oud and its associates such as rose or sandalwood. Here we have a winner with iris. I’ve never owned or smelled an iris and oud combo so this is sure to be a vacation for the nostrils. When Steven said the iris leads the way and the rose/oud comes in the background. This sounds like its blended to perfection and they knew where they were going in creating this. Would love to win the bottle, from Jacksonville NC. Thank you for not only the insight but the opportunities.

  • The beginning is the most exciting part of the process. “Creating Tra.ce. has been so enjoyable, using one of the most essential notes which is the Bulgarian Rose while combining an original Oud touch that allows you to experience this incredible balance between a leathery and a woody scent.”- Kévin Mathys on Scentologia Tra.ce.

Notes: Bergamot, Coriander, Bulgarian Rose, Orris, Oud, Alaskan Cedar, Cade. I am intrigued by the notes especially Rose, Oud, Coriander and Cade. Steven described this as woodsy fresh take on Rose and Oud as well as coriander and cade adding fresh and mysterious depth ti this fragrance. Thanks a million from the UK

  • soul-stirring song, or the breathtaking beauty of the natural world.” I am intrigued by the perfumer as well as the fragrances because I adore Rose and Oud combinations. I am struck by the use of coriander and cade in particular. Thanks a lot from United Kingdom

  • Shibuichi2000 says:

The bottle looks like it contains a fresh, clean, serene scent, and Steven’s review confirmed it.
Tra.ce sounds like a fragrance I’d definitely love – anything with iris, opposite to bombastic and a well behaving rose sounds dreamy :).
    I’m in EU.

  • Steven describes the oud note as non-animalic and clean so this sounds great. Combined with iris and Bulgarian rose this could be a well balanced scent. The citrusy opening and the coriander note bring some freshness. Greetings from EU.

  • Rose and Oud is combo that always wprks for me. I love the way je desribes his work. Steven gave detailed info as always. Im from eu.

  • Hello again from Indiana!
This is interesting…so many rose, oud, saffron combos out there. But rose , oud, Iris! I never would have thought about the combination. The Cade oil would throw me but I trust Steven’s nose enough when he says that it’s not like A City on Fire that it’s pretty tame. Thank you for reviewing a Scientologia fragrance. I’ve wondered how they work their fragrances.

  • I enjoyed reading Kevin’s first fragrance experiences. The video said it’s not overly rosy, so that’s appealing to me as a little rose is a lot. US

  • Kevin Mathys sounds like a perfumer to watch. After Steven’s review I bought samples at Jovoy
    EU

  • What appealed to me about Scentologia Tra.ce. based on Steven’s review is how it doesn’t come across rambunctious, can be worn in the Spring and Summer due to its floral and fresh composition and be used in casual and formal settings. What appealed to me about the introduction is how Kévin Mathys from CPL Aromas Dubai is the nose for Scentologia Tra.ce. and how fragrances aren’t merely scents; they are emotional triggers that enable him to have a small but meaningful part in people’s lives. Thank you for the opportunity. New York, USA.

  • Thanks to Steven’s review I found out about coriander being used to convey freshness in scents. Hm. Anyway, a non animalic oud sounds very interesting, as Tra.ce itself – understated elegance is what I’m looking for when I pick my scents.
Thanks for the review and the giveaway, from Europe.

  • AromaDulce73 says:

This house is new to me. The note Bulgarian rose, very interesting. Don’t have many Rose Oud fragrances. Good to know according to Steven’s review that the Rose is tame, not over the top. I like how he said that this fragrance is an understated elegant fragrance.

  • Rose and oud is such a classic combination. It’s usually the quality of the ingredients that makes the fragrance stand out. Tra.ce sounds lovely with a Bulgarian Rose note paired with an original leathery wood oud. The presence of iris makes this a must try for me. I’m in MD, USA.

  • I’m aware of the perfumer who made Scentologia Tra.ce Kevin Mathys because of the recent Kajal Homme IV article, I like his based on memories approach.
In Tra.ce I like the duality between relaxing and formal landscape, and the scientific aspect. All the Bulgarian rose , iris and woods I’m drawn to.
    Thanks to all involved

  • I’m interested to try it. It sounds like I might really enjoy it, I love orris and ceder and the fact that is fresh in the beginning sounds like something nicely done. Thank you for introducing this new house, I have never came across it.
    I’m baced in EU.

  • Thank you Steven for the review on this fragrance, I think it’s an exciting fragrance giveaway! I particularly liked the packaging, count me in for a chance to experience this captivating scent. Thanks for the opportunity!

  • Patricia R. says:

The bottle looks practical. I´m intrigued by the cade oil and the woody aspect. Seems it could be a solid work scent.

Thanks for the great review Steven.

Saw this perfumer on CFB a little while back. Really interesting to see an iris, rose fragrance, especially because rose can dominate other floral notes. I appreciate the woodsy notes. Loved Steven saying that he didn’t get too much cade from this.

    Would love to try this.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Kévin’s introduction is a nice sentiment—that perfumery allows him to be “a small but meaningful part in people’s lives,” invoking and reinforcing important memories. Tra.ce sounds like an unusually light rose and oud fragrance, deriving some calming freshness from the coriander and bergamot. Steven pointed out that Tra.ce actually leans more heavily towards the orris than the rose. I’m glad he highlighted the cade note here too, since I assumed it would be bringing a strong smoky note to the drydown, but it sounds like it’s applied with a light touch. Like he said, soft and subtle.

    I’m in the USA.

  • foreverscents says:

I liked reading how Kévin Mathys used to combine fragrances when he was young and at the start of his life in fragrance. I love discovering layering combinations of the fragrances I own.
In has review, Steven mentioned that Tra.ce would be a perfect fragrance for spring, with its floral notes. I am already planning my perfumed wardrobe for next spring. I love that coriander is a note in this fragrance. I agree with Steven that this notes brings a fresh quality to a fragrance.
    I live in the USA.

  • Regis Monkton says:

The rose/oud combination has not become overused to me: I’ll always be interested to try any of them. I like to hear that the oud in Tra.ce is described as an “incredible balance between a leathery and a woody scent.” I like to hear about the freshness in this fragrance-I do enjoy fresh rose prominent fragrances. I appreciate that Steven makes it clear that the iris and bergamot are definitely noticeable. I live in the U.S.A.

  • Great review by the one and only Steven and fantastic introduction.
Scentologia really makes fantastic fragrances and Tra.ce. is just another piece of art.
The fresh opening of bergamot and iris just blows my mind, two of my favorite notes. The cedarwood and agarwood sum up to make it more amazing.
I hope I try this soon.

I love when perfumers see their job as more than the artistic and commercial aspects, and appreciate the impact their creations have on people’s lives. Kevin Mathys seems to be very grounded and humble in staying true to his roots and drawing inspiration from the wonders of everyday life. I love a crafty and mature combination of rose and woodiness in perfumes, and I love iris so Tra.ce is to me a promise of a very positive olfactory experience. Based off Steven’s review, I am really intrigued by the cade note adding the mysterious quality. Versatility can only be a bonus so I appreciate that too. And the presentation is beautiful in its simplicity and true craftsmanship. Many thanks from Dublin, Republic of Ireland, EU

Iris and oud combination have captured my attention along with Steven’s alluring description of Tra.ce. This sounds wonderfully unique.

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Steven’s review and introduction to Scentologia Tra.ce. It sounds like a calm, serene, tame fragrance with a nice citrus and floral freshness in the opening. I like the mysterious darkness of Oud and Cade Oil, but it doesn’t go animalic and inoffensive. The light subtle freshness sounds truly amazing. I loved learning about the perfumer behind the fragrance Kévin Mathys from CPL Aromas Dubai. I am from the USA.

  • Honestly i’m not familiar with this house, maybe i will try to look into of what they are offering.
    Amazing review as always.

    Cheers from France (EU)
