Ramon Monegal Dry Wood

Ramon Monegal Dry Wood and Ramon Monegal via Ramon Monegal

My balance. I believe that wood naturally conveys strength, protection, flexibility, and prestige. The turn of the century led me to compose a modern olfactory image around these values. I combined accords of dry woods with fine spices to recreate the scent of the new millennium.”-Ramon Monegal

Ramon Monegal Dry Wood  is a woody, aromatic perfume by famed Spanish perfumer Ramon Monegal. The opening is an explosion of citrus and spicy notes courtesy of grapefruit, lemon and black pepper. These give way to basil, patchouli, and musk. Dry Wood quickly morphs into a composition with enormous projection. The interplay of aromatics and woods ensure a refined and deep base to the fragrance. Described as a scent of protection there is a mature aspect which runs throughout the wearing and the performance is outstanding, lasting all day with a huge sillage. –Karl Topham, Senior Editor

Notes per the brand’s website: grapefruit, lemon, basil, jasmine, lilac, patchouli, oakmoss, tonka, musk

  • Love love love Ramon Monegal! This sound amazing. Would love to make room in my home in Oklahoma for this lovely fragrance.

  • The combination of citrus, spices, basil and musk sounds mouthwatering. Enormous projection and sillage? J‘adore! Lovely opportunity as always, thank you to the whole team.
My best wishes from Paris, France.

I am curious as to how the floral notes are because at first impression it seems more like a masculine perfume than unisex to feminine.I love feminine parfume! I am from EU

  • I loved how Steven mentioned Lilac gives this fragrance a nice personality. I’m really intrested about the fact that Karl mentioned that this wood in the fragrance really turns into enormous projection after a while. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

I have wanted to explore this house for so long, I really need to get on it. There are too many fragrances by this house I’m unfamiliar with and this is one of them. I love a basil note on fragrances as it gives it a zesty/fresh feeling. Citruses with a woody base is a match made in heaven on fragrances. Spring/Summer is around the corner and this would be a perfect fragrance for it. Cheers from the USA.

  • Monegal’s bottles are sooo classy per se. I didn’t know about this one and I am honestly so curious since I can’t imagine a woody fragrance with basil and lilac. That screams my name, honestly! Hope can find a way asap to give it a try. Best wishes from Italy!

I’d love to try this! I really appreciate Redolessence’s style of review — so precise & detailed on the presentation, the notes, the performance of the fragrance. Steven’s insistence on the unisex quality of Dry Wood as well as the importance of the jasmine makes very interested in it; I’m less interested in Siesta, though it sounds like a lovely summer scent. Best wishes — I live in the USA.

  • Wow, this sounds really nice. Karl mentioned it’s enormous sillage While I love scents both light and heavy, I like the idea of a bold, spicy, and woody classic-inspired scent. I enjoy basil in my fragrances, but it can get quite vegetal and culinary. I was pleased to hear Steven’s reassurance that this one blends it with the citrus in such a way that it gives an herbal appeal without smelling like your making pesto. Sounds like a winner for sure. Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

Listening to Steven, brings to my olfactory memory the balance, elegance and refinement that are always elements in any Master Perfumer Ramón Monegal’s creations. I own several of his fragrances, these three characteristics are always present.

  • As a fan of Ramon Monegal, I’m interested in Dry Wood. I see that lilac is included in the note breakdown and I would definitely wear it in springtime. Karl mentioned “enormous projection” and that’s a plus for me. Steven describes it as calming, tangy and zesty – sounds perfect. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff. Mich USA

  • Steven’s and Karl’s reviews makes me think this is one I would really like. Like woody aromatic. New York State.

  • Love the uniqueness as described the fragrance. The overall scent profile seems like a very masculine fragrance for suitable for special occasions while the citrus and floral notes add a uniqueness and adds come versatility to Dry Wood. Very intrigued by the lack of wood notes in the fragrance as mentioned by Steven and overall great cover of Ramon Monegal’s Dry Wood by both Steven and Karl.

  • I appreciate the reviews left by Steven and Karl! It sounds like an interesting perfume and I would love to wear it. I adore the lid on this bottle too, such a satisfying snap to this catchy bottle of citrus. floral and gentle woodsy appeal. USA

  • This sounds nice and looking at the notes, I sense a signature scent potential – at least for me. A woody, spicy aromatic with a touch of citrus sounds just about right.
    Thanks!

  • I am a big fan of Redolessence, because of him I bought at least 5 frangrances. Would really like to try this perfume out as well.

  • I own 100ml bottle of Dry Wood i bought at Ramon Monegal Carrer de Calvet Barcelona boutique , and I won’t enter, it doesn’t seem fair.
I always respect others opinions, ever since I wad a little kid, and I have to say the way Karl Topham described the fragrance is very similar to the way it smells on me. Steven on the other hand very much surprised me when he said Dry Woods is 1) Not reminiscent of 80s powerhouse fragrances 2) It’s very unique fragrance. 3) smells a bit earthy.
No doubt people perceive fragrances in a different ways, but to me Dry Wood is exactly that, 80s like mature powerhouse, and also has similarities to i believe the greatest woody aromatic ever made Creed Bois Du Portugal ,I own both so I can say that. And lastly like Karl Topham I don’t smells earthy nuances in Dry Wood.
Great giveaway, but like I said I already own Dry Wood and I won’t enter.

  • I love Ramon Monegal, their fragrances are top notch quality.
this sounds like a great fresh and citrusy frangrance, and if it has a great projection and sillage sing me in 😀

  • Thank you, Steven and Karl’s for introduction of this fragrance. Steven’s focus on the earthy aromatic and citrusy aspects, particularly highlighting the combination of basil and tonka beans, seems curious to me. Karl’s emphasis on the scent of protection, the mature aspect throughout the wearing, and the outstanding performance provides a comprehensive understanding of the perfume’s character. Their reviews make me curious to experience the balance of strength, protection, flexibility, and prestige that Ramon Monegal intended to convey through this fragrance.

I am from the EU (Germany).

  • I always want to try Ramon Monegal fragrances. I collect colognes, I can’t believe I don’t have one from this gentleman/ perfumery house. This note breakdown sounds so elegant, sophisticated and great for every occasion. I want to discover the gems from this house

  • Big fan of Ramon Monegal! This sounds wonderful. Love the notes. Thank you for this chance USA

  • Steven’s review really got me interested: “clean, elegant, unisex.” I was also surprised upon reading the notes, as Steven mentioned, that there are no actual woods in this fragrance but rather the absence common perfume notes that makes it smell more woodsy. The combination of basil and citrus sounds really interesting. I love the clean, crisp scent of basil. I like Steven called this scent “calming” that sounds right up my alley, because I prefer calming, cozy scents.

  • The way Steven described the scent as having a bright opening with a green and earthy dry down kind of reminded me of “Terre d’Hermès” and the way the cap opened looked pretty cool, reminiscent of a Zippo lighter. Seems like one that’s pretty versatile and can be worn in any season which is nice. Karl described the fragrance as one of protection and having a mature aspect so this one sounds like it would appeal most likely to the more adult and refined fragrance connoisseurs. Never tried any Ramon Monegal fragrances, although this sounds intriguing. Thank you for the opportunity. New York, USA.

  • thee_boy_wonder says:

I love the idea of the basil note in here! It gives an unexpected twist and sophistication to the fragrance! This is so good and Steven is always a gem!

I can use nice fresh fragrance with grapefruit & basil like this. The patchouli dry down is what caught my attention. Interesting what Steven said that he didn’t find any wood notes when woods is in the title. Steven also says it’s a unique fragrance, I love unique fragrances.

  • Karl’s and Steven’s reviews were very interesting to read / listen to. I appreciated the thorough breakdown of notes from both of them and what especially caught my attention about Dry Wood is how classic and easy going it sounds, while Steven also describes it as quite a unique fragrance. I always enjoy a citrusy top and the floral bouquet of lilac and jasmine I’m sure bring a more feminine, sweet touch to this already lovely sounding fragrance.
    I live in the EU.
    Thanks for the draw!

Thank you for this interesting and indepth introduction. I am still bowled over after meeting the Monegal family in Cannes last October. My conversation with Ramon was profound and I have a great admration for him and the family as well as the perfumes they produce. Dry Wood sounds absolutely amazing with this combination of bright spices and herbal patchouli. I would love to add this to my collection. I live in SW France.

  • Yes, Ramon Monegal Dry wood is a woody fragrance known for its rich and warm scent. The key notes include sandalwood, vetiver, and cedar, which give it a dry and earthy essence. This is what I am about right now! I wish I won it this time. Greatly appreciate the giveaway

Great video review Steven! And the introduction has great insight to Dry Wood as well, Karl. I love this line and playing the note of basil, my god I know this would be love at first sniff. Bravo!

  • At first I wasn’t sure “Dry Wood” would appeal to me personally, as it made me think “oud”, which is not what I’m seeking in a fragrance. However, Steven has completely won me over to thai scent! It sounds fresh, original, sophisticated, elegant but not overly “woody”, and I am especially fascinated by the use of jasmine and lilac in the middle notes. He and Karl have also convinced me it’s longevity could potentially make it worth the investment. Thanks for the great review and this generous giveaway! I live in the US.

  • This one sounds totally up my alley. Citrus and aromatic notes in the opening, jasmine in the heart, and patchouli and woody notes in the drydown? What’s not to like! I’m in Oklahoma, USA. Thanks for the generous giveaway!

  • Ooh some of these notes remind me of one of my fav perfumes Trefle Pur. I can’t wait to try this and see how similar and different it is! Both master perfumers.
    In California. Thank you

  • FragranceIsMe says:

  • Monegal Dry Wood sounds like a winner from this house.
Grapefruit lemon and basil are favorites.
We need mere scents with basil as far as I am concerned.

  • Long time fan of Ramon Monegal.Especially Kiss My Name and Impossible Iris. I didn’t even know that Dry Wood existed, until Steven’s video review. I like that Karl and Ramon Monegal calls it a scent of protection. USA

  • Kudos to both Steven and Karl for their fantastic coverage of Ramon Monegal’s Dry Wood. Can’t wait to add this to my collection! I’m captivated by the unexpected absence of traditional wood notes, as highlighted by Steven.
    Hugs from Romania

  • Ramon Monegal Dry Wood sounds like a lovely melange of spices, basil, oakmoss and musk. The addition of the lilac is interesting and not one I would expect is a traditionally masculine fragrance. Steven mentioned it has exceptional projection and sillage. MD, USA.

  • Sherin Thomas says:

It is amazing how Steven mentioned Lilac gives this fragrance a nice personality. I’m really intrested about the fact that Karl mentioned that this wood in the fragrance really turns into enormous projection after a while. From PA, USA

  • Regis Monkton says:

I haven’t tried a Ramon Monegal fragrance yet, but I’ve been wanting to for a while. “Dry Wood” sounds like something I’d like. I appreciate Karl’s review because it caused me to be interested in trying “Dry Wood”. I like its notes, especially basil with patchouli. I like to hear that it has good overall performance, and I like to hear that it’s mature. I like when Steven mentions that it is a bright aromatic fragrance. I live in the U.S.A.

  • I have gotten acquainted with the Spanish house of Ramon Monegal at CaFleurebon. After sniffing some fragrances, the house quickly became one of my favorites.

Karl’s review made me believe Dry Wood is a mature, more classic-leaning fragrance with a modern aura. I love that Steven highlighted uni-sex quality, classiness, and sophistication.

  • Ramon Monegal has amazing fragrances. I recently received a sample of Siesta, and is fantastic. Soon it will come to my collection.

Dry Wood sounds great. I like that is balanced with a great longevity.
Also, elegant and office friendly, and can be dressed up or down. I love the type of scents that are versatile.

I don’t have many woodsy fragrances in my collection, and Dry Wood would be a great addition.

    From the USA.

  • The opening of grapefruit, lemon and black pepper sounds wonderful. Karl also called out the “enormous projection” as Dry Wood progresses, which suggests a robust fragrance made of quality materials. I like the idea of a “mature” wear for the work day, date night, or formal occasions. Steven highlighted how that aromatic citrus-pepper opening is “powerful”—I’m guessing Dry Wood doesn’t need more than a single spray. He also made an interesting point that the notes list doesn’t highlight woods at all, but it’s got a dry earthy quality without juicy fruits. The “sophisticated” drydown sounds quite elegant. Would love to try this! (Cool bottle too!)

    I’m in the USA.

  • Steven’s review of this fragrance was very thorough and makes it one that I would love to try. The woods, citruses, and warmth described all sound wonderful! I live in CT, US.

  • foreverscents says:

The aromatic opening sounds very zesty. I love basil in a fragrance….as well as grapefruit, jasmine, and lilac. It’s very interesting that this dry fragrance doesn’t contain wood. It certainly makes the fragrance unique. The dry down sounds very sophisticated. I like how Ramon Monegal believes wood conveys protection.

Thanks for the nice review Steven! It’s always nice to hear about a Ramon Monegal fragrance and it was great that you reviewed an old one.

It does have a fascinating note breakdown, love the use of citruses and herbs. The use of grapefruit and basil to play against each other, lots of florals and then the warm oakmossy base makes this a great all weather fragrance.

It is interesting to read that the fragrance has a huge projection for an aromatic.

    Cheers from WI, USA
