Parfums Quartana Soleil Invisible is the second perfume in Les Potions D’Entéléchie, which explores the healing energies of Mother Nature. Along with Forest of the Golden Dream, the perfumes have been designed for over a period of eight years with IFF perfumers Celine Barel and Christina Christie. The inspiration is Creative Director Joseph Quartana’s convalescence after a near-death experience left him hospital-bound in 2017. The Les Potions D’Entéléchie collection, with at least two more to follow, recalls the healing practices of ancient civilizations from Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Inspired by the power of essential oil combinations historically used to “communicate with the gods” to spark inspiration and hope, the fragrances will be released sequentially over the next few years rather than all at once to highlight each perfume’s unique properties. As I delve into the fragrance each one contributes to the healing process Joseph Quartana is seeking to convey.

“Christina imagined bright sunlight beaming down onto her from an invisible place above her head as inspiration for Soleil Invisible. We nailed the main gist of the formula early on so it was a 7-year process of refinement and many, many mods until we felt it could be improved no further.”—Joseph Quartana

Parfums Quartana Soleil Invisible blasts out of the heavens with a spicy Pink Pepper and Passionfruit mélange. The unexpected combination envelopes the skin on contact. The Passionfruit soufflé here promotes a feeling of happiness and well-being which can help with trauma and tension. The pleasing aroma of passion fruit assists in improving one’s mood and imparts a sense of peace and relaxation. The Lychee throws off an exotic fruity sweet odor combined with the short-lived subtle Tangerine note that brings out an uplifting joyous luminous effect to wrap up the crown. The Heart advances the first of the two Vetivers. When applied directly to the skin Vetiver is used for relieving stress, emotional traumas, and shock and when inhaled as aromatherapy for nervousness, insomnia, and joint and muscle pain. The Orris Root, known to blend well with Vetiver, smells analogous to violets and is used mostly as a fixative in perfumes to enhance other aromas. Holds true here.

Rose essential oil acts as a heart note in blends. It will provide a warm, emotional depth that can soften and enrich the overall aroma. It’s also widely used in aromatherapy for its ability to alleviate stress and anxiety. For me, the Rose Essential here floats over the Heart with subtle grace. The Sichuan Pepper SFE olfactory profile possesses sweet facets reminiscent of grapefruit which blends well when paired with vetiver, which is believed to improve digestion, support the immune and respiratory systems, as well as ease muscle spasms.

The Root notes seem dominated by the Vetiver Oil Java and the Vanilla Absolute Madagascar. The Vetiver Oil Java imparts a dry grassiness with a faint sense of lemongrass with a much more robust earthy and woody quality. Used as a base note for its warming and grounding, nature Vetiver Oil, is touted for its calming properties, effectively alleviating stress, anxiety, and sleep disorders like insomnia. With Vanilla Absolute Madagascar the difference is that in Madagascar, the pollination is done by bees rather than human hands (Madagascar vanilla traces its roots back to 1800 when the orchard was introduced to Madagascar from Mexico and sometimes referred to as Bourbon vanilla, but oddly enough it’s not made with bourbon whiskey). Its therapeutic qualities are thought to alleviate anxiety and provide calm in stressful situations, as well as comfort and reassurance.

Notes: CROWN – Opalene, Pink Pepper Oil CO2 LMR*, Passionfruit, Lychee, Tangerine; HEART – Vetiver LMR*, Cypress LMR, Sichuan Pepper CO2 Absolute LMR*, Armoire Heart Oil LMR*, Rose Essential for Life LMR*, Orris Root LMR*; ROOT – Oakwood LMR*, Vetiver Oil Java LMR*, Vanilla Absolute Madagascar LMR*, Guaiac Wood, Gurjun Balsam LMR*, Labdanum LMR*, Ambertonic Crystals, Earthy Musk

* LMR denotes 100% pure, natural, sustainable oil source from LMR Labs, Grasse, France.

The power of the sun! Parfums Quartana is a house I’ve had on my radar for a while and reading up the article made me learn a little more about it. I do agree, fragrances sometimes do provide a healing energy, whether the scent or how it makes you feel, you do get a sense of serenity and calmness. I love the idea of a collection focused on healing and making the wearer whole. The bottle also gives you a sense of purity and of sunlight, I like how Hernando noted that root enhances the overall composition of the fragrance and also provides that healing energy we need. Cheers from USA.

  • Such an interesting concept for a fragrance! Actually, I have recently been very invested in the principles of healing, and I recognize that olfactory receptors can truly influence our responses in any given moment. I appreciate the time devoted to creating this scent to promote a peaceful state of mind. There are so many essential oils blends that have sought this, but I am awaiting a perfume that truly incorporates this knowledge! Thank you for this generous draw. I live NH, USA.

The nature of aromatherapy in this perfume is exciting to me, to have a perfume enact the science is novel, in the best way possible. The calming characteristics of this fragrance are appealing. I live in Oregon.

I like that the note structure is named after chakras and that the review touches on both types of vetiver and their healing properties.

I love the notes on this fragrance. Hernando’s review of Parfums Quartana Soleil Invisible is spot on. From PA,USA

  • Great detail and imagery in the review and good information. I love the idea of a fragrance that is consciously made to heal and nurture. I often use my fragrances for comfort or composure!

I am always excited to see a new launch from Quartana. I click with Joseph’s creative direction and absolutely adore several (ok majority… :D) of his fragrances. I am excited about this one as I always love to see passion fruit in fragrances as it is one of my favorite fruit! This composition seems to be quite vetiver dominant, but I feel like the combination with other notes might actually make it work for my taste. Looking forward to sampling this one in the near future. I’m from Illinois US.

I cannot be part of the giveaway, since I’m in EU/Romania, but I wanted to express my thoughts anyway. This just makes my heart sing. This is the type of perfume or, actually, artistic… or actually… life experience that I gravitate towards. In my work as an artist, I try to lead others (or is it myself?) on that path or at least allow them to see the path from behind the trees. The sun illuminates the way. I find such works as is Soleil Invisible REAL. Maybe the 7 years it took to perfect the fragrance are not a random figure. Congratulations to the entire team.

  • I’ve had this houses discovery set in one of my bajillion open tabs because I love a good shtick or spiel and their website tickles the dark side I pretend to have. It’s been sitting there a while and I had no idea it turned to the light side. Exciting!

This is an interesting story that I’ve actually taken a little dip down the rabbit hole on. They’ve [medical researchers] done studies on the power scent has for healing and it was proven to work in a hospital setting for both patients and employees alike. It decreased the stress levels for employees and decreased the pain for patients. Not only that, but (for consumption, not smelling) lavender was proven to be just as effective as a very popular medicine that starts and ends with the letter X for treating depression and anxiety. Actually, it was just as effective as the top 3 prescriptions without any of the side effects.

Please don’t go snack on lavender or drink the oil, it’s the lavender that’s been handled in the fancy laboratory settings and shaped into pills and called by its scientific name (I think the one in Germany was Silexan but don’t quote me). This is information available in the legitimate medical journals, not random essential oil websites – though I’m sure it’s plastered on those, too.

Having learned what I did about those particular studies (and others I didn’t mention) it gives more credibility to something like this. Not just that but sparing those with olfactory sensitivities, perfume just makes people feel better. Even people who ‘have it all’ have bad days. So if you tell me you did the research for the happy smells and bottled them up; ADD TO CART. I’m gonna buy it.

I really love the idea of this although Passionfruit and I don’t always agree with one another, I’m still adding it to my list of scents I have to try.

  • I truly love the way Parfums Quartana was birthed, as painful as it was it brought us beauty and creations. As someone disabled who faces chronic pain, fatigue and flare ups daily I deeply appreciate and understand the aromatherapy component of great perfumery, and soooo completely appreciate a perfumer and/or house that actually designs with that in mind! Tangerine and Lychee are incredibly uplifting and Passionfruit is a loved mood booster, Rose is a classic heart soother with Vetiver clearing the mind, and labdanum, vanilla and amber bring a grounding safe feeling… so much of this blend has notes I crave for their ability to cloak me with care and comfort and beauty. We all deserve that.

I am wishing big time to be the winner, selfish but true! I am in California.

  • Interesting concept for perfume. Certain oils do have healing properties and scent is known to bring joy which can promote healing on its own. In maryland.

Wow, this sounds like a dream. I wasn’t familiar with the brand or its background but I’m invested! Very intentional and beautiful, definitely want to give this one a sniff one day! Wonderfully written review.

  • I really like the idea of a fragrance equivalent of healing light beaming down – this is something I imagine when i need to calm myself. Breathing out smoke, breathing in light, and a light beaming down into the crown of my head. It’d be wonderful to have a fragrance that evokes this same thing! I’m in the USA.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

Wow what an inspiration for a fragrance and what a long journey to create it. It sounds incredible! These notes sounds beautiful and I love how they have been chosen for their therapeutic qualities. Parfums Quartana does such intesting things with fragrance and this one sounds fantastic. Thank you for the draw. From the US.

  • phuongmtran says:

Soleil Invisible sounds so comforting. Similar to how sunlight can uplift one’s mood, I would love to try a fragrance that is similarly therapeutic. I am in CA, USA.

  • I really enjoy the idea of a fragrance line intended to provide a therapeutic benefit. Fragrances already serve an immense healing role in my life, so I am overjoyed to see a brand focusing on those properties. Soleil Invisible is meant to be a calming and relaxing fragrance, and I imagine it will serve that purpose quite well. I think it will be a very introspective fragrance and I cannot wait to try it. Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • Scent is such a powerful sense. It has the ability to help us focus on specific memories or in this case, bring us a sense of serenity or help create a healing energy. The variety of fruit and root notes in this perfume combined with a quality rose essential oil sounds very appealing. Would love to try it. MD, USA.

  • roxhas1cat says:

I love Joseph’s quote at the beginning. I like that this is connected to ancient healing practices. For me perfume lifts my spirits so it is a necessity in my life. It must be amazing after 7 years in the making. The notes are very interesting. I am lucky that my local shop carries this line (I see on Instagram they just got this into the shop today). I have smelled Forest of the Golden Dream which is lovely, but a bit masculine leaning for my personal taste. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • AprilLynn says:

Combinig the emotional and physical notes sounds amazing. Vetiver is so grounding and love the vanilla addition. What a complex mastery of blending. Would love to experience this. Thank you for sharing your impressions on this new scent.

  • Amazing combination. Love the details of this fragrance. Vetiver is so grounding. Rise is heavenly. Love the emotional and physical healing aspects. Would love to sample and win. April from Minnesota USA

  • I like the concept for these Les Potions D’Entéléchie fragrances, utilizing “essential oil combinations” favored in antiquity. Parfums Quartana Soleil Invisible takes this in a surprising direction with a pulpy passionfruit and lychee opening, but the vetiver notes connect back to aromatherapy, as do the rose, Sichuan pepper, and bourbon vanilla. The combination of vetiver and grapefruit-like Sichuan pepper Hernando mentioned is particularly intriguing.

I’m in the midwest, USA. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • hippononamus says:

I appreciated how Hernando not only explained the therapeutic use of each note, but also the way it read in the composition. Overall this sounds like a very bright and uplifting fragrance and I think it’d smell wonderful on my partner. I’m in the U.S.

  • FelipeRC78 says:

The unique combination of tangerine, lychee, vetiver and passion fruit is what peaks my interest. Sounds like a fragrance I need to add to my shopping list.

  • I love the sound of this perfume! A passionfruit note is so unusual to find and it’s one of my favorite fruits. I also love the combination of vanilla and vetiver, so Hernando’s description of the base sounds dreamy. Everything I’ve tried from Parfums Quartana has been so unique and well-made, so I’m excited to try this one too. Thanks for the opportunity to win! I’m in MN, USA.

  • khoifishy says:

Looking forward to seeing how the uplifting bits of fruits top notes blend with the root base.
I’ve been really impressed with the poison flowers line conveying a story/experience, so looking forward to a bright offering of this house.
