I just returned from Sniffapalooza Spring Fling 2011 in New York City. This was the 14th edition of the very popular bi-annual get together of perfumistas, headed by Karen Adams and Karen Dubin or as they are known Team Karen, to share our passion for fragrance.
What is Sniffapalooza ? It’s the world’s largest scent event founded by Karen Dubin and Karen Kovel Adams where fragrance newbies and aficionados gather to meet, greet and eat with the movers and shakers in the world of fragrance!!!
The scents from Agonist are supposed to be inspired by the “Nordic climate and culture with its melancholy”. Would Liquid Crystal and Perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin (le nez for Diptyque Eau Duelle) be the fragrance that pulled off Agonist’s stated design credo? Enter our draw for a sample
All of which means that people have woken up on Christmas Day all over the world to inappropriate perfume purchases…Lacoste Touch of Pink for the maiden aunt who is a life-long Dioressence loyalist and most unlikely to get through her stash of back up bottles in this lifetime.
Fig centered fragrances have been a category where I have come to really like many of the different riffs on using it successfully. From Olivia Giacobetti’s green fig in Diptyque Philosykos to Isabelle Doyen’s fig tree accord in Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio. Now it is Martine Micallef’s turn for her M. Micallef line as she releases Sous Le Figuier (Under The Fig Tree).
I want to simplify the analytical approach… these fragrances are created on the basis of two or three accords or original materials; they need to be experienced in their entirety. You can appreciate them better by distancing yourself from them to some extent, just as you need to stand back from a painting to observe it properly…
