Tom Ford’s creations, both in perfumes and on the runway, are hit or miss with me. Even those that miss have an uncanny ability to still come off as stylish. Some, like Noir, are classy while still radiating comfort and a hint of luxury.
Eline Pajot spent 15 years working for all of the biggest beauty brands but after she worked for IFF she realized she wanted to become an “Autour”. There are four perfumes in this inaugural group for her Autour du Parfum line; Poudre d’Iris, Patchouli Tonka, Encens d’Ange, and Ambre Mystere.
Many lovers of vintage perfumes, like me, cringe at the word “reformulation”. It usually means cashing in on a legend and results in something pale and ghostly, compared to the original. In the case of Balmain Ivoire, it is not so much a ghost as it is a stunning and crisp homage that does justice to the original.
While I was looking wistfully at Alice + Olive Leopard platform pumps, I stumbled across Le Labo Iris 39 and wrote to Fabrice Penot about Le Labo boutique at Saks at the Houston Galleria. Where have I been? Oblivious of course to what is great news and maybe a Le Labo boutique at a Saks Fifth Avenue near you sometime in the future.
