The Ormonde Jayne La Route de La Soie collection is a captivating gateway into the world of niche perfumery, offering a sensory exploration of cultures that once flourished along the ancient Silk Road. Drawing inspiration from the rich diversity born of human connection and exchange, this collection born from Linda Pilkington’s (perfumer and Creative Director) love of travel, celebrates the exotic flora that adorned the opium trade routes, spanning from Asia across vast deserts and over majestic mountains to the West. The perfumes in this line are a tribute to the wild-growing native flowers, herbs, and spice trees that thrived in these varied landscapes and, much like the merchants who once traversed the Silk Road, Ormonde Jayne introduces an array of vibrant rare and precious notes (Persian rose, rhubarb, Armenian plums,  nutmeg, Indian sandalwood – to mention but a few).

“A thousand years ago, the vast trade paths from Peking to Paris carried more than just silk and precious commodities. Ideas, cultures, and beliefs were shared across continents for the first time: from alcoholic drinks to the number zero  – as well as science, art, and literature. The Silk Road became a route of dialogue, diversity, and understanding.”- a note from the brand.

Enter the new two olfactive destinations. Kashmir is an epic Fougère with a lyrical heart summoning a strong woody aura with a creamy sandalwood base – a serene experience that I will save up to savor during in the cooler part of this autumn. The second one is the one we will focus on today – the wild untamed beauty of Ormonde Jayne Bukhara.

Bukhara, Uzbekistan

Bukhara, Uzbekistan wiki image, fairuse

When you hear the word Bukhara, it brings to mind images of far-off places filled with history, mystery, and ancient traditions – thoughts of old-world whispers and distant lands where centuries of stories are woven into the fabric of everyday life. The area surrounding Bukhara has been continuously inhabited for over five thousand years, with the city itself standing for at least half that time. Thanks to its strategic location along the ancient Silk Road, it was a vital crossroads for traders, scholars, and travelers journeying between East and West, bringing together goods, knowledge, and traditions from afar. Over the centuries, Bukhara grew into a melting pot where diverse influences merged, with Persian, Turkic, Mizrahi and Islamic influences adding new shades to the rich tapestry of culture. For me, the sheer musicality of the name Bukhara /bʊˈxɑːrə carries a certain mysterious resonance, as if I am on the brink of a half-forgotten memory. Its musicality makes my hands feel the smoothness of handwoven silk rugs, and I can almost smell the rich, heady scent of spices in the air and behind closed eyes, I see the golden light of the setting sun reflecting off the city’s magnificent architecture.

A ripe peach rolls lazily to the side of the colorful carpet, and the air fills with a sudden burst of youthful laughter. Silver cups are raised, the clink of teeth against metal as sweet nectar flows, while the music begins, picking up tempo with every note. The atmosphere thickens with anticipation. Veils of opulent silks swirl through the air, dancing in the golden light as the dancers glide into the room. Eyes meet, full of promises and untold stories. In that moment, Ormonde Jayne Bukhara truly comes to life.

Ormonde Jayne Bukhara review

Ormonde Jayne Bukhara, image via the brand

A fresh and youthful opening of succulent peach and mouthwatering blackcurrant, veiled in amber immediately grabs attention, feeling both familiar and irresistibly inviting. It’s like the first few chords of an exotic song that, though new, is so harmonious you’ll be humming along to its chorus in no time. This playful, vibrant introduction sets the stage for the layers that follow, gradually unfolding into an intoxicating, warm bouquet of white flowers composed of tuberose, jasmine, and honeyed orange blossom. Feminine, sensual, and sweet as sin, this heart is as indulgent as it is decadent, wrapping the wearer in a seductive floral embrace that is hard to let go. The drydown unfurls gracefully, with the presence of orris butter and sandalwood – lending the fragrance a refined, smooth structure, and taking us on a more aristocratic, timeless path. The base is a combo of vanilla, amber, and oud, anchoring the fragrance firmly into the present day, and giving it depth, strength, and longevity. Just like a dancer stepping out of a time machine, with a final, effortless twirl, the scent leaves a soft trace of warmth and intrigue, leaving you with the sensation of having experienced something both familiar and irresistibly addictive.

  • I have always been pleased with all the Ormonde Jayne fragrances I get. Somehow they always strike the perfect balance of elegance, intrigue, warmth and sophistication. I’m not sure I could pick a favorite as they are different genres but I def love Ta’if and Tolu and Women and I have no doubt this one is just gorgeous! Thank you for the give away, I am located in California.

  • Nicoleta’s review of Ormonde Jayne Bukhara really draws me in with its imagery of rich spices, handwoven silk rugs, and the sensual, floral heart of the fragrance. The blend of peach, blackcurrant, and amber at the opening, followed by tuberose, jasmine, and orange blossom, sounds like a vibrant, intoxicating journey. The mix of oud, sandalwood and vanilla in the drydown promises a deep, luxurious finish that I’m really curious to experience firsthand! Feels like stepping into an ancient, mysterious story.

Ormond Jayne has been cranking out the offerings these year and we love an ever working brand! I knew of this release but didn’t really know much of the name and where the inspiration came from. I really like the fact this composition has 3 profiles a lot of perfume lovers go for: fruity, floral and woodsy. Combining all 3 really cement the idea of the road ahead and where the inspiration came from which is the Silk Road that bridged the East and the West. Along this journey one would find all sorts of goods and adventures and served as a crucial communication point for travelers. A masterful composition with fruits at the top, florals in the middle and the woodsy notes at the base, this is a perfect transitional fragrance. I’m located in the USA.

  • Taking a journey through the ancient silk roads and the scents of the near east that is feminine, sensual, playful yet refined, smooth, aristocratic and timeless…. A perfect oriental floral fragrance to try.

  • Traveling down the ancient silk roads, the description of a scent that invokes the past, yet is modern and fresh, but refined, smooth, taking us on a more aristocratic, timeless path…yet feminine, sensual, sweet, smooth, is the perfect oriental floral to try.

  • The enchanting world of Ormonde Jayne has captivated my senses once again. Nicoleta gracefully guided us on a mesmerizing Silk Road journey, for which I am truly grateful. Ormonde Jayne Bukhara embodies a joyful symphony of fruity florals intertwined with an ancient, woody essence, resulting in an exquisite, sensual, and indulgent fragrance. It is a creation tailored for those who yearn for timeless elegance enveloped in the vibrant energy of the present moment.I am in the US

  • Ormonde Jayne is a house that just exudes class. Their DNA brings images of ballrooms, galas, and clinking champagne glasses. I am confident that Bukhara is not exception. Sarah Baker’s Peach’s Revenge made me fall in love with peach all over again, so I am excited to see it listed as a prominent ingredient. The white florals and sandalwood sound like the perfect carnal and creamy accompaniments to the juicy stone fruits. Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • Love the brands writing about the trades route. Linda came to my local shop, sadly I had written down the wrong date and missed it. I hear this fragrance sold out that night. I like that it has ancient woody soul. I agree with Nicoleta…..can’t wait to see where Linda takes us next. There are some of my favorite notes in this creation. Love that mood image photo. I have many favorites in her line, especially Ta’if, Iris Vanille and my recent new purchase, Tanger. Thanks for the chance to win this fragrance. USA.

  • Ah, Ormonde Jayne.. I met her (Linda) a few weeks ago here in Portland, she was presenting her new perfume collection. She is as lovely in person as talented, I purchased Kashmir and waiting for colder weather to wear it (just like the author mentioned). I also agree that Ormonde Jayne’s creation is a timeless elegance and it is true not only about her new Bukhara perfume but about most of her line. I would love to receive it as a gift, too good to be true actually.
I live in Portland, OR, USA

  • Thank you for the opportunity! The cultural and historical aspect of it all is intriguing to me, I love to learn about these background stories. Would love to try this beauty! Best wishes from the EU.

  • Bukhara sounds absolutely mesmerizing in Nicoleta’s description. It seems to be quite an unexpected fragrance, given the name – I was imagining more of a spicy, woody or “fabricky”? (cashmeran, suede or something along those lines) body, but the fact it appears to be a juicy white floral only manages to trigger my interest even more. Tuberose and jasmine are two of my favorite floral scents, while peachy notes are always successful in complimenting them, in my experience.
Also looking forward to reading a more extended description of Kashmir.
    Greetings from the EU.

  • A new Ormond Jayne is a cause for celebration. I was able to visit the London shop, where I picked up Woman many years ago. What a great visit, a lovely shop and I left with lots of memorable goodies. Bukhara features peach at the top, which is a very sentimental note for me. And sandalwood/oud/vanilla are favorites at the base. Nicoleta uses that dangerous word, “addictive”. I’d love to try this; thanks for the opportunity. I live in NY.

  • Ormonde Jayne Bukhara sounds beautiful and Nicoleta calls it a lovely fruity floral with an ancient woody soul. I love the new direction of Ormonde Jayne, and purchased Vanille d’Afrique which is my favorite when I read Karl’s review. US reader

  • Beautiful description of how the fragrance unfurls on the skin, Nicoleta! I adore spiced peach fragrances and the indolic floral and ambery wood base sounds rich and elegant. The oudh addition puts in the exotic, Silk Road category. Ormonde Jayne is one of my favorite houses. I’m in MD,USA

  • paulaiudita says:

The description made me think of Ormonde Jayne as a perfume that enlightens the deepest self: feminine, sensual, sweet, indulgent, timeless elegant. I haven’t the chance to smell it yet but I am so keen to descriver it soon.

  • Warm, exotic scents are very much my cup of tea. They usually make me feel quite nostalgic for places and times I’ve never known. Bukhara certainly sounds like it will be one of those for me. The amber and oud soul with the fruity head notes – seems like it is quite fresh, yet comforting.

  • Thank you to the introduction to Bukhara’s history and traditions—interesting review. Jayne Bukhara sounds like the canonical ideal of a fruity floral amber, a richly sweet bouquet wrapped in creamy woods. It would make for a wonderful statement perfume.

    I’m in the USA.

  • Based on Nicoleta’s review, what truly sparks my interest in Ormonde Jayne Bukhara is its ability to evoke vivid images of ancient history and mystery, especially the rich cultural heritage of Bukhara along the Silk Road. The harmonious blend of fruity and floral notes, transitioning into a luxurious and timeless base, promises a deeply sensual and unforgettable fragrance experience. I’m particularly drawn to the combination of peach, blackcurrant, and white flowers with a lingering oud and amber base, which sounds absolutely captivating. I live in Greece, EU
