Olivier Durbano Amethyst, Anatole Lebreton Grimoire and Milano Fragranze Basilica+ 3 Summer Incense Perfumes giveaway

can you wear incense perfumes in summer

summer incense perfumes: Olivier Durbano Amethyst, Anatole Lebreton Grimoire and Milano Fragranze Basilica collage by Emmanuelle, brand bottles and pixaby background

What, incense for summer?! I hear some of you gasp. Isn’t the humidity and heat meant for lighter, citrusy, beachy scents? What will have to look forward to in winter if our cold weather favourites make a premature entrance? What’s next — wearing white after Labor Day? Dogs and cats living together? Mass hysteria?

Courage, mes amis. Here are three lovely summer incense perfumes that are absolutely delicious in the sort of weather that makes you long for a pool and a coconut umbrella cocktail.

Olivier Durbano Amethyst review

Olivier Durbano Amethyst by Olivier Durbano

Olivier Durbano Amethyst (Olivier Durbano) 2006: First up is Amethyst, Olivier Durbano’s rococo bouquet of grapes, raspberry, jasmine, orris, and incense. This is watercolour summer incense—diffuse, soft, soothing and entirely lovely. There is no smokiness to the incense here, which is airy and ethereal rather than church-like. Amethyst opens with the sugar-wine juiciness of crushed red grape and contrasting bitter sparkle of bergamot. Indistinct floral and fruit notes flutter like drowsy butterflies as they gradually become recognizable. Then, a fleeting bite of pepper cuts the sweetness as woody incense – a Durbano trademark – gives the fruit and flowers a spicy twang. In the perfume’s later stages, the grapey-floral opening recedes gracefully, Despite the fruit and flowers and the usually dense notes of palisander and amber, Amethyst retains a fluffy lightness. If you ever thought incense was not for warm weather, Amethyst is the summer incense perfume for you. NotesBergamot, pepper, grape, raspberry, incense, palisander wood, jasmine, orris, vegetable amber, sandalwood, musk, vanilla.

Anatole Lebreton Grimoire photo Anatole Le Breton

Anatole Lebreton Grimoire (Anatole Lebreton) 2017: Anatole Lebreton’s splendid Grimoire is an herbal, animalic incense fragrance imbued with the skewed, chimerical beauty of an Odilon Redon painting. Vivid, biting bergamot cuts through the seep of smoky incense in Grimoire’s opening moments. This summer incense is not remotely churchlike but damp and mossy like olfactory verdigris. Its opening feels like a slowly moving kaleidoscope in which green notes blend into and then separate from incense, smoke and woods. With its puff of sweet, fumy elemi and olibanum and the bittersweet bite of dried herbs, Grimoire’s first moments smell like a hookah smoking in a medicinal garden. I half expect to look up and find the Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland asking me who I am.

As the bergamot loses its sharp edges, dried lavender and basil tumble forward, and Grimoire becomes less citric, more herbal. A fresh smelling cedar comes through followed closely by a horsey tang of cumin. I absolutely adore this fragrance and recommend it for, frankly, any weather. Let Grimoire’s strangely beautiful lavender and incense fragrances cast its spell over you at midnight on a summer night when the air is thick and moon hides behind the stars. Notes: Bergamot, basil, lavender, elemi, frankincense, Seville lavender, Atlas cedarwood, cumin, patchouli, moss, musk.

Milano Fragranze Basilica is a great summer incense perfume

Basilica di Sant’ Ambrogio Milan by Ermano Picco© and Milano Fragranze Basilica photo courtesy of the brand

Milano Fragranze Basilica (Violaine Collas) 2021: Masque Milano impresario Alessandro Brun’s new line of Milan-themed fragrances offered up some last year’s loveliest surprises. Little wonder that Basilica, his incense ode to the city’s ancient Basilica di Sant’Ambrogio, created a stir in the fragrance community and was one of Deputy  and Natural Editor Editor Ida Meister’s best of 2021 and a finalist for Art and Olfaction Awards 2022. Despite its ecclesiastical moniker, Basilica is not your typical censer-swinging smoke bomb. Its spare, herbal beauty evokes Brother Cadfael tending his gardens rather than a cathedral mass. It opens with aromatics, damp cedarwood and light incense, like the smell of an old monastery chapel when you wander in from the heat of midday. Soon, the old, familiar smell warmed milk trickles in alongside labdanum, in a caramel-like accord less the sweetness. Dots of thyme and rosemary punctuate and lift the fragrance, giving it a wonderfully green cast at times. Basilica is the one to reach for when you need sanctuary in the midst of a hot, teeming city. Notes: thymerosemary, warm milk accord   labdanum hyperessenceincense resinoid, cypriol, Virginia cedarwoodSantamanol TM.

Perfume and incense brings joy to the heart. Proverbs 27.9

Disclaimer: samples of all the above perfumes graciously sent to me by the brands. My opinions, however, are always my own.

  • Olivier Durbano Amethyst has notes that I enjoy almost all of then. I mean just look at some of the major notes such as grapes, raspberry, jasmine, orris, and incense. Grimoire seems like it will appeal to those who enjoy herbal incense and Basilica seems like a surprising incense creation that evokes visits to gardens rather than churches. My choice would be Olivier Durbano Amethyst. I am in US.

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

The Eau de Parfum Améthyste belongs to the family of spicy woody perfumes; a perfume that is mysterious and powdery, protective and fruity, like a resuscitated secret. I like to win it. I am from EU

  • Incense and warm milk sounds like an unusual mix. I am very curious about Basilica.
    Thank you very much!

  • katyakotovskaya says:

I’d love to try something braver for the summer fragrance, and Lauryn made a perfect point how that could be done. I’m a fan of thyme, so my choice would be Milano Fragranze Basilica for sure. I live in EU

  • Thanks for the lovely, descriptive reviews of these three perfumes. I haven’t tried anything by these brands, yet, so don’t have any favorites, yet. From Lauryn’s reviews, were I to win this generous draw, I would choose Olivier Durbano Amethyst. Incense seems to be a smoky, thick note, more for autumn or winter, but Lauryn’s review says it’s gentle enough for summer. I love woody, incense perfumes and it would be a delight to try Olivier Durbano Amethyst, based on Lauryn’s glowing review. Thanks again for the reviews and draws. I’m from the USA.

  • I don’t think incense for summer, this has changed my mind. I liked reading about coming in from the heat to an old monastery chapel. I often do that when I visit New Mexico in the summer. Love the coolness and the leftover scents in those old places of worship. I don’t think I’ve read Proverbs 27.9. Yes perfume and incense bring joy to the heart! Amethyst sounds interesting with it’s “watercolor” approach. I’d love to win Basilica. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • Lauryn’s review convinced me these 3 Fragrances can be perfect for Summertime. I do like the notes for Milano Fragranze Basilica. Thank you for this Chance USA

  • Great review by Lauryn. I think that I am not a person who depends on weather for using the fragrances I like, but tbh there are some times that I feel descouraged using a smoky or incense fragrance on summer, and after reading this I have three perfect excuses.
The one that got more my attention is Olivier Durbano Amethyst because of the grapes and the soft, soothing incense.
I would love to win Amethyst by Olivier Durbano.
    I live in the USA.
I have tried Panetonne by Milano Fragrances.

  • I never really considered wearing an incense-centric summer fragrance, but Lauryn’s convinced me it works as a cooling note. In particular, Olivier Durbano’s Amethyst features an airy, non-smoky incense which complements the florals and sweet fruits (grape and raspberry). The composition sounds lovely and I love the imagery of the drowsy butterflies. I’ve never tried any of the three. I’m in MD, USA.

  • I thought that they were really beautifully written reviews with fabulous details and very intriguing information. I wish to win the 100 ml bottle of Olivier Durbano Amethyst. I live in Poland, EU. I never tried Olivier Durbano, Milano Fragranze or Anatole Lebreton perfumes. It would be something really special to try this fragrance.

  • Wow, I LOVE the idea of incense for summer. Grimoire is one I’ve had my eye on for a bit, so after this lovely review I’ll definitely have to get a sample next time I make an order. As far as the giveways, I think Basilica intrigues me most: that warm milk accord!
    WV, USA

  • Oh my the review for Amethyst sounds absolutely lovely, and amethyst is my birth stone 🙂 I think I’d like to win that one. I live in Missouri, USA

  • IvanVelikov says:

I had a good feeling about Milano Fragranze after all the praises , so I ordered the sample set , and I have to say I’m impressed , Olivier Durbano and Anatole Lebreton I have no experience with.
Basilica is classic incense, it’s herbal , just a bit sweet and spicy fragrance. The “caramel-like accord” do not exist to me, but i do agree with Lauryn about the milk , I can clearly smell it. I like how the lactonic, aromatic and the incense parts are so well blended. I’d wear Basilica in rainy Fall and Spring, but not in the Summer.
Olivier Durbano Amethyst bouquet of grapes, raspberry, iris and incense i find quite attractive, avant-garde fragrance i’d like to win
Thank you Lauryn, Olivier Durbano, Anatole Lebreton and Milano Fragranze
    USA

  • I enjoyed reading all of Lauryn’s reviews but her description of the spare herbal beauty of Basilica combined with the milk and labdanum intrigued me the most! Basilica is the one I’d want to win. I’m in MN, USA

  • Lauryn!!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ Love these scents for summer! I am very lucky to have experienced samples of all three of these lovely bottles! They definitely work in the heat. For a full bottle, I’d love Any of these! If I had to choose, I think I’d take Olivier Durbano Amethyst (my birthstone is Amethyst). Thank you for a wonderful reminder to think outside the box! USA

  • It’s always hot in Vegas, these all sound like great options. I would love to win Basilica. NV, USA.

  • Basilica sounds absolutely lovely. I’m incredibly curious to find out what the warm milk accord smells like, and thyme and labdanum are two of my favorite notes. I’ve been looking for a lactonic scent to try for a while!

I’ve never tried any of the three, but I’m also considering purchasing a sample of Grimoire just based on that hypnotic description. Sounds absolutely lovely.

Thanks for the opportunity! IL, USA.

  • I am intrigued about incense fragrances which can be worn in summer as many of them are usually associated with colder months (as mentioned in the review). Specifically I am very curious about Olivier Durbano Amethyst and the combination of incense with grapes and raspberries. If I would get lucky that would be the fragrance I would like to win. Greetings from Austria.

  • I chuckled at Lauryn’s introduction but I have to agree: incense with its cool airy green facets sounds perfect for summer. While Amethyst sounds fun, I find I don’t reach much for fruits in the summertime, prefering herbs and woody greens. That’s why Grimoire sounds like something I will have to sample at some point, hookah smoking in a medicinal garden is more or less everything I want in life!

I would love to win Basilica, I heard much about Milano Fragranze and being from Milano’s rival city par excellence (Rome) I feel like I have an obligation to at least smell the line! A light cool incense with green herbs and hot milk sounds so… weird, I cannot wait to try it.
If I don’t win anything, I am still very happy to have read these smoky round up, so thanks a lot :))

  • I love incense, it’s my favorite note in the perfumes, doesn’t matter the season. I actually have a sample of Grimoire, and it’s special. I was not sure what exactly prevent me from wearing it, but now I see. I cannot go past the beginning of “a hookah smoking in a medicinal garden”. I never really heard of Olivier Durbano, Lauryn present it as a fascinating fruity fragrance with balsamic notes. Which is not so common in incense perfumes, that are usually more church-like (my favorite type). Definitely worth trying someday. But the perfume I really extremely want to have is Milano Fragranze Basilica, sounds like a perfect perfume for me, and I am in love with these blue bottles.

Thank you, Lauryn, for this great review! Please write more about balsamic fragrances 🙂
    I live in EU (France)

  • NituNicolae says:

I have not tried any of the fragrances mentioned in the video, there are no boutiques of such in my own country. Maybe in the future when I get an opportunity to travel to Italy/France I can finally try first hand all of these great incense stories! I would love to win Olivier Durbano Amethyst. Cheers! Romania, EU.

  • Nikolina_84 says:

I always enjoy reading Lauryn’s reviews because her descriptions are so vivid I can almost smell the perfumes! What sparked my interest is her saying that Olivier Durbano Amethyst retains a fluffy lightness great for summer, so I’d choose that one.
    Hugs from Croatia, EU. ❤️

  • The idea of an incense suitable for summer is fascinating, as I’ve always considered the note to be a winter one.
I’ve tried Grimoire and I feel like in a cold and humid dungeon, never thought to try it in summer…I will!
As for Basilica, from italian brand Milano Fragranze, I’m interested in the herbal/lactonic notes which thame the “clerical” incense….really curious to try.
As for the last one, Amethyst, the fruity thouch is not really my cup of tea, as it seems really feminine!
Only tried Grimoire from Lebreton….nothing from the other brands!

My choice would be Milano Fragranze Basilica.

    Riccardo, Italy EU

  • I’ve already tried basilica and it’s one of my favorite from the line, also Milan it’s the city where I live so it’s quite unique and special to have a pargume line dedicated to the the city.
    Greetings from Italy

  • I absolutely love a good incense fragrance and my favourite one used to be from Maria Candida Gentile Sideris. Recently I’ve discovered La Via del Profumo Mecca Balsam and I’m in love.

These two incense-centred fragrances seem lovely and I reckon I’m mostly drawn to Basilica from Milano Fragranze.

Many thanks for this draw. I live in France.

  • “Amethyst opens with the sugar-wine juiciness of crushed red grape and contrasting bitter sparkle of bergamot. Indistinct floral and fruit notes flutter like drowsy butterflies as they gradually become recognizable.”
Wonderful description and imagery. I have tried Olivier Durbano’s Chrystal and Tourmaline, I remember olibanum in both in them, I believe the Amethyst has the same churchy feeling but more fruity.
I had a sample of Grimoire, too, loved it as a art creation, but it was a bit too heavy for me.
Otherwise my favorite incense fragrances for summer comes from Beaufort – my favs are Coeur de Noir and Terror and Magnificience.

Thank you! I live in the EU and my choice for this draw is Olivier Durbano Amethyst.

  • wandering_nose says:

I love how Lauryn invites us to have courage and not be afraid of using incense fragrances in the summer heat and humidity. That is quite an eye-opening concept to me and as I like experimenting with non-obvious ideas, it sounds very appealing. I haven’t tried any of the three perfumes presented. I feel particularly drawn to Milano Fragranze Basilica with its herbal, woody and aromatic facets and the milk & labdanum mix. I feel I would love wearing it, and not only in the summer! Thank you for the draw. I am based in the EU

  • AdventurousFox says:

I’m not usually a big fan of incense because I associate it with heavy, serious smell. Can’t say I’ve tried “light” incense before, which is why both of these perfumes intrigue me. Basilica di Sant’ Ambroggio is a very peaceful place with a calm, meditative energy, and your vivid descriptions of the perfume takes me back to my trip in autumn of 2021.

I’m a big fan of Masque Milano and own 2 of their scents, which is why I’d like to win Basilica. Even if I don’t, the descriptions piqued my curiosity enough to order samples of the whole Milano Fragranze line! Greetings from Croatia, EU.

  • These all sound so lovely! I haven’t ever tried an incense based fragrance that was on the fresh side. Each one has such a unique blend that it would be hard to choose. I’ve quite smitten with the description of Basilica because of it’s earthy, soothing notes. But I’ve also drawn to Olivier Durbano Amethyst because of the fruit notes. I’d be happy to win either but if I had to choose just one, it would be Olivier Durbano Amethyst.

    I live in the USA.

  • By the descriptions the Grimoire is the one I’m most drawn to. Of the two for the draw I’d prefer the Amethyst as it’s described as a summer incense perfume. US

  • Wow what a round up! I really enjoyed your humorous take on summer incense in the opening 😀 I haven’t tried any of these, but hope to!

I would have such a hard time choosing between these, but since I have to, I would choose Milano Fragranze Basilica. Thank you for the review, writing from the EU.

  • From these three I am most curious about Amethyst as I am not familiar with the work of Mr. Durbano and because, well, the name and the bottle are catchy. Many thanks! EU

  • I appreciate how the review of Basilica paints a picture of the place: the gardens outside the monastery chapel midday. I’ve heard a lot about this fragrance and the splash it made at it’s release. I’ve never been to Milan so I’m so curious to try it! I love incense fragrances and think they can be great in the summer. It would be wonderful to try this gourmand take on incense. I haven’t tried this house although I should. In Texas, USA.

  • Summery bright incense fragrances are one of the most interesting ones to me. I love Lauryn’s reviews of all three fragrances and I must admit I am very intrigued by these. In particular the grape – incense mix of Amethyst and rosemary – milk – incense of Basilica. I have sampled most of Milano Fragranze offerings and Basilica is my absolute favorite and I agree completely with her review. This is a very unusual but so comforting fragrance… I still don’t own a bottle but I will for sure. For that reason I have to pick Milano Fragranze Basilica for the giveaway. I’m from Illinois, US.

  • Nice reviews Lauryn! I agree with you, not all has to be citrus fragrances this season and incense work well on these steamy days we lived and anything is too heavy… Anatole Lebreton Grimoire is not churchlike but mossy, herbal and verdant like a bunch of lavender in a box of cedar. Olivier Durbano Amethyst has a beautiful opening following the colour of the stone showing a fruitiness and a floral aspect where raspberry and grape stand out to give us a woody incense. Alessandro Brun’s Basilica following his name is more a church incense type of fragrance but the herbal beauty of thyme and rosemary lift and smooth the resin and as you say feeling like a sanctuary in the midst of a hot summer mediterranean city , even Milan is not that close ;). I live in Spain, EU and I would like to win the Milano Fragranze Basilica .

  • I never really think of incense for summer but Lauren makes a great case for it ! From Olivier durbano I have black tourmaline which is my go to in the winter so I would like to win amethyst. Where do I buy amethyst in the USA ?
    Thank you fingers crossed

  • What a fun review! Lauryn was right, I never considered incense perfumes in the summer. Of the two listed, Olivier Durbano Amethyst is the fragrance I would most like to try. All three fragrances are new to me. I love in Indiana.

  • She convinced me to try incense in the summer, definitely! I want to win and try Amethyst perfume! I live in the EU

  • I loved the idea of this article, bringing quite a peculiar note and one that is quite characteristically wintery, and then giving a range of summer options for the lovers of that note which don’t quite know how to wear it in summer! No need to compromise on one’s favorite notes only because of seasonal factors. And of course Lauryn described them beautifully, also underlining the differences between each.
My pick would be Basilica. It sounds right up my alley, the aromatic herbs, milk and labdanum sound very unique and the bottle looks stunning.
    I live in the EU.

  • Olivier Durbano Amethyst intrigues me most and i would love to win. The combination of raspberry , incense and orris is one of my favorites among its notes. I haven’t try any of these 3. I live in Greece (EU).

  • I have not smelled Olivier Durbano , and Anatole Lebreton fragrances before .
Milano Fragranze Panettone I now have , thanks to Nicoleta Tomsa gourmandish review, I’m more happy with my purchase.
Milano Fragranze Galleria in my Pastry Chef mind I think it would smell like slightly burned Lemon, Thyme, and Rosemary Milk Cupcakes.
Lauryn Beer take on Olivier Durbano Amethyst made me think of the traditional, and popular in Italy Torta al Vino with Grapes .
Of course recipes differ, but Torta al Vino is a traditional wine-country cake with nice amount of white or red wine in the batter, and preferably seedless grapes (or any kind of berry) folded in. The acidity of the wine and the whole juicy fruits—baked grapes are luscious , and highly appreciated by the customers at my bakery. I do make Torta al Vino once a week
I’d like to win Olivier Durbano Amethyst
Appreciate the 3 mini Summer Incense reviews , and the giveaway campaign
    USA

  • shanonabston says:

They all 3 sound delightful, however, Olivier Durbano Amethyst has struck my curiosity with the grapes & jasmine. I absolutely adore jasmine and even if it just accentuates a fragrance rather than stand in the forefront it will still grab my attention. Many of the other notes in it I have high regards for but grape, now that would be a new one for me. So I would have to tip my bid for this fragrance to be in my collection. I live in the US.

  • I love her choices because incense is pretty hard to wear during summer, but she seems to have found fragrances that contradict that. And her reviews are so good you just can’t miss.
I’d choose Amethyst, Olivier Durbano for it being a watercolour summer incense—diffuse, soft, soothing and entirely lovely without smokiness to the incense.
    EU

  • I have had the pleasure of experiencing a few Olivier Durbano creations, but I’ve not tried Amethyst. I am greatly intrigued by it based on Lauryn’s review. I enjoy grapes, raspberry, jasmine, orris, and incense and I imagine they combine for a unique fragrance. I love how Lauryn describes Amethyst as having a “watercolour”-like quality. Airy, ethereal, and reminiscent of wine are all reasons I must try this fragrance.

I have not tried Anatole Lebreton Grimoire but I really enjoy Incarnata from the house. I’m very intrigued by Lauryn’s review of Grimoire, especially because it evokes the Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. While I always hesitate with cumin in fragrance, I am so intrigued by Lauryn’s review of Grimoire that I’d love to test it now.

I have already tried Milano Fragranze Basilica and it’s a beautifully melancholic incense fragrance. I agree with Lauryn that it possesses aromatic, herbal, and sweet qualities. Comparing Basilica to the sanctuary in a hot city is perfect. I find it a bit melancholic, but also refreshing and comforting. I love the combination of incense, rosemary, thyme, and milk. It is my favorite fragrance from Milano Fragranze, although I do enjoy others from the house.

I would love to own a bottle of Milano Fragranze Basilica or Olivier Durbano Amethyst. Thank you, Lauryn, for the great reviews, and thank you for the giveaway! I am located in the USA.

  • Fascinated that I have never done smokey incense in the summer, yet some fragrances appear to pull it off. I would like to try amethyst, because I am less certain I would like the mire herbal one. Thank you. USA

  • I’m actually pretty into the idea of summer incense. I think it’s because of my first experience with it in the Japanese pavilion at Disney’s Epcot. Going into the air conditioned department store from the heat and smelling the incense burning was so transportive to me as a kid visiting my favorite place! I’ve been wearing an amethyst ring this summer, so naturally I’m drawn to Amethyst by Olivier Durbano. I have yet to try anything from the line, but that grape note has me very interested. And of course, love the purple juice! I am from USA.

  • Well I adore incense in all its glory, warm and cold weather alike. I would love to try any of them but am particularly drawn to the Milano scent. In maryland.

  • I enjoyed Lauryn’s review of incense-in-summer choices. I never tried any of them. I would like to try Basilica simply because I am a fan of smokey incense but my problem was that it was always not suitable for summer. I also think the addition of landanum and herbs will add something excellent. Also I am a fan of cedarwood and would love to see how they are mixed up. I am not a fan of non-smokey incense like the other 2 choices but I like the review because it made me realize the difference between all 3 choices

  • I’ve been on a big incense kick for a few months, so I’m all for incense perfumes that work well in hot temperatures and sticky humidity. Thanks for the great reviews Lauryn—all three perfumers are new to me and I enjoyed the detailed descriptions of each. Reading about Grimoire, I imagine it’s the smell of hobbits smoking in the Shire—vibrantly green, smoky, incensed and earthy. I’m also intrigued by the church gardens affect of Milano Fragranze Basilica. I haven’t tried any of these perfumers, but hope to soon.

I hope to win Milano Fragranze Basilica—thanks! I’m in the midwest, USA.

  • A summer incense focused on the garden instead of the cathedral sounds just lovely. I loved Luryn’s reviews of all three and may also seek out Grimoire. In USA – thanks!

  • As a fan of incense as a component in several of the fragrances I own. I’d never really thought of them as a potential summer scent, and that’s even having sampled Basilica as part of the Milano Fragranze sample set. Lauren has brought is three very distinct and different options. I’lol certainly keep Grimoire in mind to possibly try at some point. For me this is an easy choice as I’m already a fan of Basilica and would love to add a full sized bottle. I am in the US.

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Lauryn’s reviews of the three summer incense perfumes you should be wearing. I’ve tried Amethyst, it’s a modern classic and a beautiful fragrance. I’ve always loved Incense in fragrances…especially when they have the versatility to be worn year round and in the warmer months. I’m very intrigued by Milano Fragranze Basilica and Anatole Lebreton Grimoire which I haven’t tried. They have a unique woody and church incense vibe while still being light, accessible, and wearable. If I win I would pick Milano Fragranze Basilica. I’m from the USA.

  • I’ve been to Milano dozens of times , Milano Fragranze Basilica is inspired by Basilica di Sant’ Ambrogio , famous tourist attraction , one of the oldest churches in the city. It’s not permitted to film , but I have pictures and videos of the Shrine , the Sarcophagus of Stilicho , The pulpit , The complex of altar and ciborium and the side chapels . I love incense, and lactonic fragrance, but I don’t believe I’ve smelled a fragrance that has both .
First time I’ve heard Olivier Durbano fragrances do exist was on Cafleurebon. For years I was under the impression he’s is a fashion designer , because of my sister in law. She collects shoes and scarf , now she has 4 from Olivier Durbano , hand made , and painted scarfs. His scarfs I know , but i’ve never smelled his fragrances.
Anatole Lebreton I have no experience with
Rococo bouquet of grapes , wine, iris and lightness ,called Amethyst is the fragrance i’d like to win
    Thanks for the draw

  • intoperfumes says:

Very unusual choice for summer, bur perhaps I should give incense perfumes a try. Thank for this review
The most appealing to me is Basilica with its aromatic herbal notea.
    I live in Italy, EU.

  • I like incense for summer, especially palo santo wood (Arcana Spell Divination) or floral incense (Serge Lutens Gris Clair). These all sound great from the reviews but the most interesting one is the Milano Basilica! Herbs and warm milk?! I gotta try that. Please enter me for the Milano drawing. I live in the US

  • Thanks for the reviews Lauryn!

Incense can definitely be for summer! My first fragrance with Incense was Aqcua Di Gio Profumo which is still one of my favourite summer fragrances. It suits me perfectly and has made me buy a lot more Incense-heavy fragrances!

I’m currently travelling a lot for work and it’s very intense. Fragrance helps me relax and when you say Basilica is the one to reach for when you need sanctuary in the midst of a hot, teeming city then I know which one to choose! I’ve got my fingers crossed!

    Greetings from EU!

  • Regis Monkton says:

Milano Fragranze’s “Basilica” is definitely one of my favorite fragrances. I bought a bottle of it last autumn, and I hope to always have a bottle of it for the rest of my life. I’d like to try the collected works of Olivier Durbano and Anatole Lebreton. “Amethyst” sounds very interesting, e.g. the bouquet of grapes with the incense (two of my favorite notes). If I win the draw, then I’d choose “Basilica” because I want to have more of it so I can wear it more often than I do. I live in the U.S.A.

  • foreverscents says:

I enjoy wearing incense fragrances in the summer. I am reminded of stark cathedrals with cool interiors–a respite from the scorching midday sun. I am very interested in Basilica. I liked Lauryn’s description of the green aromatic notes. I have tried Anatole Lebreton’s L’eau Scandaleuse and I enjoyed it very much.
I would choose Milano Fragranze Basilica.
    I live in the USA.

  • Being a gourmand lover I always find it difficult to pick a good summer scent. Reading Lauryn’s review definitely has me adding a few options to the list of fragrances I need to look at. Especially with Amethyst. Her mentioning a bouquet of grapes, raspberry, jasmine, orris, and incense….I definitely like how that sounds. The incense with the floral and fruity notes is right up the alley of what I’m beginning to like as I venture out of my comfort zone with fragrances.

With Grimoire she mentions that its first moments smell like a hookah smoking in a medicinal garden and I know for sure that’s not one for me because I hate hookah.

Now Basilica I actually have had the opportunity to smell before and I love it. Would be perfect for these hot days here in Texas. Definitely a herbal sweetness going on that I admit I like and that punch like she mentions that comes with the thyme and rosemary definitely put me and my nose in a good place.

If I were to win I would like to go with the bottle of Amethyst from Olivier Durbano.

  • Perfume and incense brings joy to the heart. Proverbs 27.9 — Amen! I have read many good things regarding Anatole Lebreton and already have samples waiting in my shopping cart at Luckyscent. Can’t wait to try them. A favorite incense fragrance that I enjoy wearing in summer is Olibanum by Profumum Roma. It’s light and airy with the orange blossom on my skin. I would choose 100 ml of Milano Fragranze Basilica. Thank you for the draw! US.

  • I wear incense fragrances all year round, sometimes I’m a bit careful with the sprayer , but “Summer incense” is not a new concept for me.
I’m well familiar with all Milano Fragranze, and Olivier Durbano fragrances, Anatole Lebreton I smelled briefly for a few seconds on blotters . I remember Grimoire as cumin bomb.
Olivier Durbano fragrances best fragrance is in my possession, 30ml of Black Tourmaline Extrait version – it’s a 10/10 masterpiece , and a must try for any frag-head .
Amethyst is a bit a departure from the darker, and moody-er fragrance Olivier Durbano is known for, is sweeter, a bit spicy and quite powdery. Lauryn review is spot on
Basilica blend of incense ,rosemary, thyme, and milk is not something you see everyday. Still I believe the fragrance is more of a classically structured churchy incense type of scent. It opens up with herbal notes of thyme and rosemary , glued to the frankincense. Ever slightly sweet heart , leading to a woody base of sandalwood and cedar. Milk i barely get , if any.
I really like both Basilica and Amethyst, hmmm… at the end, I think I’d pick Amethyst
    All profiles I already follow , @waltherp99bg

  • The descriptors used are particularly attractive: Verdigris, the monastery garden, the moon hiding behind the stars! Romantic, vivid imagery. Grimoire sounds especially ike an experience I’d like to try, though I will be looking up both it and Bascillica. I live in the USA.

  • Incense in the summer sounds fine to me! I’m used to incense in Asian cultures, so I don’t necessarily have any dark heavy connotations associated with it. I also enjoy La Religieuse by Serge Lutens in the summertime too!
Olivier Durbano Amethyst would be my choice of prize. I live in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Who said Summer incense with “sugar-wine juiciness of crushed red grape and contrasting bitter sparkle of bergamot.” ?
I’d love to treat myself with Mixed Berry Sangria, and to burn some incense cons , Amethyst is sophisticated fragrance , with cuddling touch , my choice if i win
Anatole Lebreton I don’t know, I’m also new to Milano Fragranze , but i adore Russian Tea – my favorite Masque Milano fragrance.
    Thank you for the opportunity

Thanks for the fantastico review Lauryn! I thoroughly enjoyed reading up about these wonderfully summer fragrance that take different twists on the incense note.

I must admit that Grimoire was the one that caught my attention, with its medicinal greenness thrown in with the incense. I can completely imagine myself walking in a hot garden, replete with herbs and different shades of greeness and seeing the Caterpillar smoking his/her hookah.

Between the two on offer, I rend to veer towards fragrances that are more traditional in their incense notes. I love the notes in Milano Fragranze Basilica and know of the brand’s commitment to trying to recreate the olfactory landscape of Milan. I would love to win a bottle of this.

I’ve had a chance to smell Anatol Lebretons Un Fleur Cachee which is a beautiful vanilla fragrance.
