Neil Morris Fragrances Psychedelic Luau + Trippy Tropical Draw

The inspiration for the new Neil Morris Fragrances Psychedelic Luau came to the perfumer Neil Morris by way of a bespoke fragrance he was creating for a good friend.  "… The odd combination of notes she wanted", Neil says, "prompted me to comment: 'It’s smelling like a lei at a Psychedelic Luau!' She thought that it might be a good name for it, but I decided to create a completely different perfume based on that name! I wanted something totally fun for summer and a little trippy!"

Psychedelic Luau certainly is totally fun and definitely a little trippy – and also lush and fruity and full of energetic, juicy life, adorned with leis of buttery lactonic white flowers and colored with a hint of the surreal, head shop vibes of earthy, mellow patchouli.  From the initial delicious breath, Neil Morris Fragrances Psychedelic Luau is a real mood lifter, a party in a bottle!  As I wear Psychedelic Luau I find myself smiling broadly and involuntarily – and everyone I meet is smiling back at me.

My first toke of Psychedelic Luau treats me to the unmistakable taste of one of my favorite notes in perfumery…Banana! Not the heavy overripe, black spotted, gush-y banana, but rather the perfectly yellow, unblemished, just right banana, firm and at once soft and suave.  Masterful Neil Morris keeps this perfect banana light and fresh, modulating the sweet, smooth qualities of the yellow fruit with the crisp, sharp snap of green leaves and the cool, zesty aromatics of lime. In moments a squirt of red currant juice creates the effect of a refreshingly sweet banana Popsicle.  Yum!

One bite and the cool Popsicle melts into a rich, waxy, bouquet of gardenia and tuberose. Creamy, buttery, lactonic and radiant, the white flowers, spiced with the honeyed-clove of carnation and sparkling with suggestions of fresh cut pineapple and tropical fruits, define the exotic, warmth and alluring heart of Psychedelic Luau.  Along with gardenia, tuberose and banana the nose bending effects of Neil Morris Fragrances Psychedelic Luau are amplified by the full-bodied richness of a sweet, ever so slightly dirty patchouli. The careful use of bright, clean ozonic marine notes keep the patch lifted and light.  Psychedelic Luau finishes on my skin with a final nod to banana, tuberose, balsamic patchouli and musk. But the party is not over yet!  Twenty-four hours pass and Neil Morris Fragrances Psychedelic Luau is still going strong, grooving on my winter coat, reminding me that warm weather and summer fun are really only a few weeks away.

Notes: Green Leaves, banana, red currant, lime, gardenia, tuberose, carnation, pineapple, guava, oceanic notes, musk, and of course, patchouli! ("Wouldn’t be very “psychedelic” without it!" – Neil Morris).

Disclaimer – I would like to thank Neil Morris for the party in a bottle – Psychedelic Luau! My opinions are my own.

  • "A party in a bottle" sounds like a great recommendation! I only know one other perfume that has successfully used the banana note, can't wait to learn what Neil has done with it. While I haven't tried any of his perfumes yet, they're in my "must-try" list.

This sounds wonderful –  banana and lime!  I have Neil's Prowl perfume and it is amazing 🙂    I am in the US.  Thank you so much for the drawing!

  • Great review of this fragrance. I just love the fruity/white flowers fragrances and i am 100% sure that Psychedelic Luau is amazing. I would be more than happy to try it, since i haven't yet tested their perfumes. Best regards from UK

  • Gail, you nailed it! This is such a nice review of my new, fun, summer-scent! And I love the Psychedelic self-portrait! Getting the Banana note to work was tricky, didn't want it to be cloying. I look forward to sending a bottle to the winner! Thanks again, Gail and michelyn!

Great review! This one sounds like a lot of fun. I love a white floral and it's interesting how this one seems to start and end with the banana. I really love banana done right and this sounds like just that. I am so ready for summer after reading this. Thanks for the drawing! I am in the US.

  • This perfume sounds so wonderful. I would very like to own this. The notes sounds fabulous, like a real happy scent. I have never tried anything from Neil Morris yet. Thank you for the draw. I live in Europe.

  • I never had the chance to smell any fragrance from Neil Morris house. If this perfume goes for 24+ hours, i am really curious about it even if i don’t really like the banana note in general. Thank you for the chance, i am in the EU.

I haven't had a chance to sample Neil Morris before, however, your description of the scent and it's process of creation is incredibly intriguing. I love you infinite creativity placing fragrance notes. I live in the US.

I need this perfect banana fragrance in my life. This has a great list of tropical fruit notes. I haven't tried Neil Morris, yet. I'm in the USA.

  • Richard Potter says:

Groovy review, Gail! You are on fire with your visuals. Wow, two banana frags in close succession (Bana Banana and this one). USA

  • DulciusExAsperis says:

OMG! this sounds amazing. I host a big tiki party every year in my backyard and this fragrance would be PERFECT… banana and gardenia wafting amongst the guests in the evening air. I have never tried a Neil Morris but would love for this to be my first one… I am in the US!

As I end my 21st school year, I need a psychedelic luau!!!  Gail got my interest at "party in a bottle".  I've seen banana notes in fragrance recently, have never smelled anything with banana yet.  The banana dolphins brought a smile to my face.  I'd love a chance at this one.  Thanks so much.  USA.

  • Oh wow, this sounds right up my alley! I find it clever that the fragrance's name came from another perfume's brainstorming process. Psychedlic Luau leaves little to the imagination of what could be inside the bottle, which I like!

Another thing that stood out to me…this banana note. I'm quite curious to know how this plays out in the aroma. Could it be truly the real deal, and not a syrupy synthetic banana candy note? I've never tried a perfume with banana before so this would be a real treat.

    I'm from the US.

  • I have not tried any Neil Morris Fragrances, but I really want to try Psychedelic Luau. It sounds somewhat awful (banana) and a lot of wonderful. I love the perfume name and the imagery that Gail Gross creates so well. It made me laugh and if the perfume can do the same, it can only be great! Did I say I love the name, Psychedelic Luau? LOL.
    In the US.

  • White flowers and banana! What's not to like? Gail makes it sound like a tropical summer scent that's truly unique! Thanks for the opportunity to sniff ! USA

  • Monica Beaton says:

Great review and artwork Gail! I do love me a banana note! I have a couple of fragrances with a whiff of banana and oddly, it works. And it's fun. It looks like Neil Morris has created something wonderful. I don't know if I could choose a favourite Neil Morris fragrance, but I had a small sample of Scrumptious some time ago and it was wonderful! I haven't been able to locate a bottle though. I live in Australia.

  • What DOESN’T appeal to me about this review?  Gail makes this fragrance sound absolutely mouth-watering.  I’m especially intrigued by the floral notes because I love tuberose, gardenia, and carnation.  I’m not familiar with any Neil Morris fragrances.  I’m in the USA.

  • Banana is definitely a big note in perfumery now. I was really impressed with the new L'Artisan creation – and this one sounds also right up my alley. I don't like to EAT bananas but they are an interesting note in fragrances and there are so many facets to explore.

I'm still on a big tropical kick and haven't found exactly what I am looking for – maybe this will be it?

Thanks for the draw, I am in Melbourne Australia

  • This is want I found most interesting… Along with gardenia, tuberose and banana the nose bending effects of Neil Morris Fragrances Psychedelic Luau are amplified by the full-bodied richness of a sweet, ever so slightly dirty patchouli.

I don’t have a favorite Neil Morris perfume.

    I live in California.

  • I've never tried this house yet but what appeals to me about this review is Banana note! I've been had a perfume with this note.

Thank you for the chance I live in the USA

  • I never smelled a banana scent before, and the combination with white flowers and patchouli really seems a bit like a LSD trip. This could be really a fun scent in a summer evening or remind you of summer, when its winter…. I only had a sample of Neil Morris Fetiche, which i really liked, but his scents are hard to get in the EU. I live in Germany

  • A creamy, white floral banana popsicle…this screams my name! I love fruity and white floral fragrances and I’m also curious about how the carnation and patch blend in that. Thanks Gail for the lovely, LIVELY review and Neil Morris for being willing to give one bottle away! Unfortunately I couldnt sample any of his creations. I’m in europe.

  • This will definitely suit the country I live in. It feels like summer here all year! And a new note (banana) I could have the chance to sniff. Greetings from the Philippines!

  • “ Fun and definitely a little trippy“ sounds just like the right thing for me now! Unfortunately, where i live its hard to find Neil Morris, so I only had a sample of A rose is a Rose, i`d love to try more of his work as they sound soooo good! I live in Europe.

  • I would like a boost of energy for the summer, something like a "party in a bottle" sounds perfect for me! Thx, Romania

  • I have only recently started to enjoy fruity fragrances moree, and the combination of red currant, banana, and pineapple with gardenia sounds luscious and divine. I am specially interested in this because of how the author described its persistence. I live in the USA. Thank you!

  • I am on a fruity kick for summer, and I think the thing that appeals to me about this fragrance is the banana.  I can't think of any perfumes I own with such a note, and I love the same and concept as well. Thanks for the giveaway. I live in the USA.

I'm happy to see banana notes popping up in new fragrances, done in a more restrained and fresh manner, and complementing other fruits.  From this house, I love October and want to sample Hula and Cafe.  Thanks for this chance, I live in the US.

  • I’ve been quite interested in smelling a banana perfume since I saw another one being reviewed by Sebastianon YouTube recently.

This whole composition sounds like something I would just absolutely love.

    Thanks and love from Germany!

  • I really like Gails review of describing Psychedelic Luau as a fun trippy sounding and uplifting fragrance that will make you smile and the ones standing next to you. I love Hawaii and partying. I never tried any Neil Morris fragrances.  Thanks for the draw. I live in CA, USA! Aloha!

  • This review had me at banana. I still don't have a banana fragrance!!!! I'm in USA.

    I have samples of

Chasing Autumn – not tried yet

Midnight Noon – a sweet floral

  • I haven't tried any  of Neil Morris fragrances but would love to.  I really liked reading about Psychedelic Luau!  Bananas and Patchouli, Gail describes this beautifully .  Thanks for the chance, USA

  • I have not tried any perfumes from Neil Morris House, and I would love tor try Psychedelic Luau. Banana note is a note that I would love to experience in a perfume. I enjoyed reading Gail Gross imagery descriptions and would also love to experience creates Psychedelic Luau as well..

The description of the fresh banana note sounds very interetsting to me! I haven't tried any of the Neal Morris perfumes before but I understand they are based in Boston so I'll have to check it out. I live in New Hampshire USA. Thanks for the draw!

  • „As I wear Psychedelic Luau I find myself smiling broadly and involuntarily – and everyone I meet is smiling back at me.” This one sentence won me over. Psychedelic Luau looks like a great companion for upcoming crazy beach parties.

I lve in the EU. Thanks for the draw!

  • bumbuliuki says:

I loved the review and Gail's collage.
The banana note is getting more popular this year and it sounds nothing like the over ripe, plasticky smell from other past perfumes I've tried. I'm looking for a mood booster for the summer and Psychedelic Luau sounds like the perfect perfume for that purpose.
I haven't tried any Neil Morris fragrances, but I'm looking forward to smell them.
Thank you for the article !
    I'm in Romania.

  • An excellent review by Gail! This fragrance sounds amazing and I am quite intrigued by the banana and lime. Banana is my favorite fruit so I must try this. Unfortunately, I don't own anything by Neil Morris and I really hope to win this. Thanks for the generous giveaway and I am in the US!

  • Paaarrrrty! I've been interested by the banana note in fragrances recently and this sounds like a fun interpretation of it. I haven't tried anything by this house yet, and it sounds like a unique fragrance and a good intro. I live in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!
