As a life-long lover of green, growing things and an inveterate gardener for most of my life, nothing pleases me more or brings me more happiness (with the exception of perfume) than a gift of flowers. Last week, when I received a little package from Neil Morris, one of my all-time favorite perfumers, I immediately fell in love with the gorgeous full-blown bouquet in a bottle that is Neil Morris Fragrances I Will Bring You Flowers, a limited edition Extrait de Parfum created especially for CaFleureBon’s 10th Anniversary.

After luxuriating in the pure pleasures of these sensuous blossoms for several days, I felt compelled to ask Neil a few questions – about himself, his inspiration and process – to learn more about the magic behind (and within) the bottle of I Will Bring You Flowers.

Gail Gross: Neil, you are considered by many of us to be the godfather, so to speak, of American independent perfumery.  You have become a model and an inspiration for young artisan perfumers.  When did you know that perfumery would be your path? What do you enjoy most about your work?

Neil Morris:I’m grateful to you for referring to me that way, it’s quite an honor. I knew since an early age that my sense of smell was something I paid attention to! Sitting at the beach, inhaling the salty air, walking in the woods in March or April, being surrounded by the scent of the newly awakened earth. I have always noticed the scents surrounding me, and their power to evoke all kinds of emotions. How could I possibly avoid perfumery! LOL!”

GG: How did you choose the name I Will Bring You Flowers?

NM: I’m a great one for bringing flowers to people I visit, or to those who invite me out to dinner, and especially to those who take the time to cook for me! So I’m either bringing them flowers or perfume, and sometimes both! So bringing flowers is, for me, a way of showing love and gratitude.

GG: My first impressions of aldehydes and narcissus in I Will Bring You Flowers evoke a momentary vintage vibe. Were you inspired by any perfumes of the past?

NM: While I do admire and love many vintage florals, there is no specific perfume that inspired me. Nature herself, with all the gorgeous floral works of art she lovingly creates, offered the inspiration. It was difficult to choose which flowers to include since there are so many that I love. But I think the ones I chose work quite well and hope you will all agree. I will bring you flowers by neil morris for CaFleureBon 10th anniversary

GG: I understand that a friend asked you “Neil, how on earth did you manage to bottle spring?” Can you give us a hint about just how you were able to do this?

NM: Yes, I was testing the composition on various people to see how it behaved on skin and I tried it on my friend Layla. It was she who made that remark! It was the response I was looking for and I knew I was close to completion. How I did it? Trial and error! It went through 5 distinct iterations but number 5 was the charm. I was not interested in giving it a fruity introduction, as many floral perfumes do. I was strictly interested in showcasing the flowers. The florals I chose are among my personal favorites – Plumeria, Narcissus, Gardenia, Rose. The addition of Hedione embraces the flowers and gives the perfume a lovely lift, in conjunction with the Aldehydes. I wanted it to have a warm, slightly animalic drydown (as opposed to using something sweet like Vanilla) so I chose Vetiver, Sea Moss, and Suede and a hint of Civet. I hope I was successful and that people will enjoy it!

GG: What is it about I Will Bring You Flowers that evokes ÇaFleureBon?

NN: I thought it would be the perfect theme to create and dedicate this perfume to ÇaFleureBon because for the past 10 years they have been “Bringing Us Flowers” every day with reviews of exquisite bouquets created by a myriad of talented perfumers and the word wizardry of amazing writers! I would like to give a bouquet of flowers to each and every one of you. This is ÇaFleureBon gift to us and I Will Bring You Flowers is my bouquet to them. Thank you, Michelyn, and thanks to all your gifted writers. With Fragrant Love from Neil.

Perfume Notes: Lavender Aldehyde, Floral Aldehyde, Mandarin, Hedione, Jasmine Sambac, Gardenia, Rose, Heather, Plumeria, Honeysuckle, Dossinia Orchid, Narcissus, Geranium, Amber, Suede, Sea Moss, Civet and Vetiver.

Disclaimer:  I would like to thank Neil Morris for my treasured bottle of I Will Bring You Flowers. My opinions are my own.

Thank you dear Neil… who is as kind as he is talented and who I have known personally since 2008. I live in New York City and there is not much nature to be seen from my window (COVID-19 Stay in Place); smelling I Will Bring you Flowers is as if a fantasy flower garden was blooming indoors… and as if Neil was indeed here to bring me flowers.-Michelyn Camen, Editor in Chief

    Ooooh COUNT ME IN !

Not much of a floral person usually -except for rose and jasmine- but I adore narcissus. ADORE.

And I love the name so much, I could almost hear Neil saying it. I usually bring wine but this generous offer of flowers and of spring.

I mean. Spring in a bottle, seriously. Who wouldn’t want that ?

  • With all the bad news lately and being mostly cooper up indoors, spring in a bottle sounds just what this world needs.
I’m new to the world of perfume and ÇaFleurBon (my journey started with 4160 Tuesday’s Red Queen in January) and a lot to catch up on (a decade so it seems). Reading the articles gives me much joy and opened up a world of niche perfume houses and noses to explore!

  • Dubaiscents says:

This sounds like just what I need after a snow storm here in CT today – a bottle of spring! It is also my favorite genre of fragrance, the floral chypre! I love a good narcissus scent and with civet- oh my! I can’t wait to try it. Thanks for the draw! I’m in the US.

  • Neil’s choice of flowers for this fragrance; plumeria, narcissus, gardenia and rose are voluptuous! This does sound like spring in a bottle and a happy, joyous scent which is definitely needed now. I love that Çafleurebon introduces us to so many indie perfumers. I’ve never tried any of Neil Morris fragrances but would love to. I’m in MD, USA

  • I am always on the lookout for floral bouquets that stand out so I’d be very curious to try this. I am especially interested in how the aldehydes and narcissus add a vintage touch. I am in the USA.

  • What a fabulous way to celebrate ÇaFleureBon’s 10th anniversary! Congratulations! I really like the name and the sentiment behind it. Thanks for bringing us the latest news and also articles on vintage fragrances. Peace and Joy! Mich USA

  • TE Withrow says:

I would like to experience this version on Spring in a bottle…it sounds lovely. CaFleurebon always has the best of writes explaining about different fragrances that I’d probably never of otherwise…I live in Illinois US.

  • raymondchau says:

As a guy, I love floral notes and a sucker for jasmine. Some people will find the indolic aspect of some white flower such as jasmine pungent and somehow comes off fecal and rotten, Asians who are so familiar with the smell of the true jasmines blooming itself adore it. And bring it on, the stronger it is, the more natural it feels, to me!

The scent itself to me inspires a splendid and green spring season. I am living in Canada and thank you Cafleubon for your lovely review and I love discovering new fragrance through these reads.

    Happy Anniversary!

  • Omg a plumeria and other floral perfume, how could it not be dreamy???

The first time I lived in Singapore I would go to the Botanical Gardens at least twice a week just to sit under the plumeria and enjoy the scent and the slight changes of perfume between the different varieties of plumeria they had there. It sounds like a bottle of pure distilled happiness in the sheer volume of florals. Who could NOT want to try it? I certainly do!

What makes me happiest about Ça Fleure Bon is hearing from other voices what they love in different perfumes. There is so little rancor or negativity here, it is a highly educated but positive view of perfumery and it makes me excited to try scents or notes I didn’t like initially because I can hear how much other people appreciate them here. It contributes to me developing my nose and not closing myself off to New experiences or reexperiencing things differently.

Thank you to Neil for sharing his process and to you Gail for the interview! I’m in Canada.

  • Bryant Worley says:

What appeals to me about this fragrance is its great floralness(?). But, along with that, there is Mr. Morris’ desire to give it rawness (“I wanted it to have a warm, slightly animalic drydown (as opposed to using something sweet like Vanilla) so I chose Vetiver, Sea Moss, and Suede and a hint of Civet).

What I like about ÇaFleureBon is summed up in Morris’ words: “I….dedicate this perfume to ÇaFleureBon because for the past 10 years they have been “Bringing Us Flowers” every day with reviews of exquisite bouquets created by a myriad of talented perfumers and the word wizardry of amazing writers!”

I live in Waldorf, MD, USA and, unfortunately, have only experienced Neil Morris’ fragrances vicariously through video reviews.

  • Renee Lavigne says:

Neil is invited over to my house anytime while in Seattle. This perfume sounds heavenly…..

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

Happy 10th Anniversary to CaFleureBon and their team & members!
Wonderful and impressive to read. Many others love French & Italian perfumes but I prefer American brand perfumes.
I Will Bring You Flowers perfume brings banquet of flowers layered & coated with Amber, Suede, Sea Moss, Civet, and Vetiver notes. Never tried or own Neil Morris’ fragrances yet. Thanks for the generosity & draw. Pakistan

  • It was great to hear about I Will Bring You Flowers straight from the perfumer himself. I have been asking about floral scents lately because I have been wanting to experience something different that can suit a man as well. It sounds like this perhaps can do that and along with florals I’ve been wanting to dip my toe in animalics so the “touch of civet” in the dry down is ideal for that as well. I love Cafleurebon because I learn something new from the articles or reviews every day! Also I learn about fragrances I most likely wouldn’t have otherwise or at the very least I hear about them sooner than I would have. The writers also paint such wonderful pictures to imagine the scent which I really enjoy. I have not had the fortune of trying a Neil Morris perfume as of yet but would certainly like to. And as it snowed today here where I’m from in CT USA maybe this “spring in a bottle” is the perfect one to start with. Thank you for the generous draw. And congrats again on 10 years!

  • What I loved most about i will bring you flowers is the combination of notes , it sounds like a walk through a whimsical garden from alice in wonderland with a little mischief thrown in.

What I appreciate most about cafleurebon is the positivity it highlights in the shared hobby and passion of hours. It’s cultivated such a great community for positive discussion and shared knowledge.

    I’m from Ireland, EU.

  • Spring in a bottle, how to capture spring, bring somebody flowers. We could all use some cheering up in these days. Why not by nobody less than the godfather of american independent perfumery.
Count me in on this one!! Living in the EU

  • This sounds so lovely and cheerful. I have been smelling early blooms on my daily walks and they make me smile. This sounds like an antidote for today’s world. Congratulations on ten years, and I’m happy to say I’ve been a reader for nine of those.

  • First of all, the name attracted me like a magnet! I Will Bring You Flowers and what more? Maybe a stolen kiss? o la la, this is so exctiging!, ÇaFleureBon is my escape route, when I need a little break, I “perfume” myself with all your reviews. Thank you!!!! I live in EU.

  • patrick_348 says:

I like the idea of the florals being complemented with the contrasting dry down and that it comes in extrait de parfum concentration. I don’t know any Neil Morris fragrances (yet), but I have certainly enjoyed reading about them. I enjoy the quality of writing at Cafleurebon and the creativity with which you approach fragrance. You are serious without losing your sense of fun. I am in the US, in NC.

  • bigscoundrel says:

This limited edition fragrance sounds like a beautiful spring bouquet of spring with some earthiness in the background. I have not tried a Neil Morris scent yet. I enjoy learning about all of these wonderful fragrances on ÇaFleureBon. New Jersey, USA.

  • I love florals although I have yet to add a fragrance with lavendar to my collection! I like this blog because it always has great reviews of new fragrances, and I like knowing about new ones. Thank you for doing this giveaway! USA

  • I am so grateful to Gail for writing this review and to Michelyn for bringing us flowers every day for the past 10 years! And I’m grateful to all the readers who commented. (Thanks for the invite, Renee!)
I wish you all Good Health & Fragrant Dreams!
    Neil Morris

  • Camille Sheil says:

Happy anniversary!! I love most the idea of the bouquet in a bottle. I love that this is love in a bottle, appreciation, and the desire to give back. I love that the dry down isn’t vanillic, but more musky, maybe Woody…? A true bouquet! I love hearing Neil’s livelong guidance through his nose and what an amazing website he has!!! Wow! He is so right…! The work done here at Cafleurebon is a work of art that is like any fragrance, worthy of a fragrance! So thank you again so this feast for the senses! I live in New Hampshire USA!

  • Elizabeth T. says:

I love the choice of flowers used, especially the narcissus! I can visualize these all in a bouquet together, and it’s beautiful! What a beautiful tribute. Thank you Neil and Çafleurebon! I’m thinking spring. 🙂

  • Happy birthday Cafleurebon and what a lovely tribute in a bottle by Neil Morris. I have Aegean and it’s very lovely l. I like that there’s no fruity notes
    I live in the USA

  • I will bring you flowers a great name for a fragrance. Intrigued by the notes especially Rose, and Plum. Thanks from the United Kingdom

  • I was just chucked by my boyfriend and am losing my garden and all my beloved plants. This perfume appeals to me because the thought of not seeing my plants come up this spring, and not watching them grow and bloom is truly horrible and finding a perfume that approximates a garden sounds lovely. (I don’t know if that counts as a first world problem, or something petty during this awful Covid19 outbreak we are having but it’s how I feel!)

What I enjoy most about CaFleureBon is the fact that the writing is educated and polite, both writers and people who comment, a rare thing on the internet!

    i live in Minnesota.

  • Fascinating use of florals in this composition by Neil Morris it is a brand I would love to explore further and it is an extrait sounds fantastic. From the UK

  • What appealed to me about I will Bring You Flowers is that this perfume seems truly like a bouquet of flowers, rather than a basket of fruit (floral rather than fruity opening) or of cookies and cake (warm slightly animalic drydown rather than sweet vanilla). The olfactory impression from this wonderful interview is that it is a beautiful, fragrant bouquet, and nothing else – spring in its natural, simple glory. Would love to try it. Thanks for the interview, and also congratulations to Cafleurebon for 10 years of wonderful work. Writing from USA.

  • Of course I’d want Spring in a bottle. The drydown sounds spectacular. I love the idea of just floral, no fruitiness as well. I am in the US.

  • I am in Australia, and locked away far from the community flower garden I usually tend with the other volunteers. The idea of someone bringing flowers to me in a bottle is beyond exciting, especially as down here it’s early Autumn.
I love being the guy in the room who smells beautiful, in a world of super dry macho boring sameness. and I think this could be an extraordinary fragrance.
My absolute favorite Neil Morris fragrances are Edge of Forever and Gardenia for men.
Çafleurebon is giving me days of dreamy reading while I’m waiting here before I am again allowed outside.

  • This floral bouquet sounds like a fitting celebration for Çafleurebon’s tenth. I’m relatively new to perfume, and this site has been an invaluable resource for independent and niche perfumery. I love that you highlight the artistry and passion of the creators. I’m in the US.

Neil’s response to Gail’s last question is one of the best parts of this interview! I absolutely love that response to why I Will Bring You Flowers is perfect for CaFleureBon! Bringing flowers to someone is how Neil shows his love for people, and for him to bring the CaFleureBon team and fans this shows his gratitude towards everyone in this family. The fragrance itself sounds fantastic and definitely worth a try. I have had the pleasure to sample a few of Neil’s masterpieces and I have fallen for all of them I have tried. I need to make a few of them full bottles in my collection and soon! Thank you Neil, for bringing us this beautiful creation and for your lovely responses to Gail’s questions! Thank you Gail, for interviewing Neil and asking him the perfect questions for I Will Bring You Flowers. Thank you, Neil, for your generosity, as always, and for this very special opportunity! A big thanks to Michelyn, for making these 10 years happen! Thank you for everything you do! Sending love and comments from Delaware, US. Good luck to all!

  • Totally agree with bringing flowers as a way of showing love and gratitude. On that note, what a great name for this perfume! Plumeria I don’t think I have sniffed before but Narcissus, Gardenia and Rose I absolutely adore. Checking in to the CaFleureBon site to learn about new niche perfumes has become a daily ritual of mine. Gives me ideas on what new perfumes I should be sampling. Also somehow makes me feel like I am part of a special club, which I enjoy. Have not tried Neil Morris fragrances before but would love to check this brand out. Stay safe everyone. Regards from the USA.

  • In this difficult time I think it’s so important to read about great beauty, about scent, exclusively made for Cafleurebon Anniversary: bouquet of flowers Plumeria, Narcissus, Gardenia, Rose. This creation of Neil Morris Fragrances “I Will Bring You Flowers” bottle with late summer flowers. Thank you Gail Cross for your beautiful description in
interview that take away my worries and anxiety. Always pleased to read your articles, see photos and illustration.
    Happy 10th Anniversary!

  • This one sounds like a floral bouquet with a slightly vintage vibe due to the animalic drydown, which is something I love. Unfortunately I have never smelled anything by Neil Morris before, but all the reviews to his perfumes promise such great creations, and from the interview it also seems like his nose was “chosen” to identify, compose and create. As for Cafleurebon, how can one not appreciate the immense and ceaseless amount of information it provides everyday, and also trying to often, if not always, offer its readers the chance to test? I am in the EU, please count me in.

  • what i enjoy most about ÇaFleureBon is reading a new notes list, pause, and try to smell the fragrance. almost meditative. relaxing. de-stressing for sure.

as for I Will Bring You Flowers: it’s bottling spring indeed. i like that he was “strictly interested in showcasing the flowers.”

  • Monica Beaton says:

As we’re entering a wet and grey winter here – and of course we’re all stuck inside – a bottle of spring would make my heart sing! I Will Bring You Flowers sounds like it would raise my spirits in these troubling times – thank you Neil Morris for creating something so uplifting. I love all of your fragrances – they are beautifully made with obvious passion. I live in Australia.

  • I loved the interview of Neil Morris! Interesting that he is considered the “Godfather of American Independent perfumery” I also loved the combination of flowers in, I will bring you flowers X, and reading all of the wonderful words that Neil has expressed towards Cafluerbon! He is right when he says that you are bringing flowers to all of your readers every day. I am so enjoying all of the bouquets of word that you all give me to read. Thank you USA

I love the idea of bottling spring! That contrasting dry down sounds like a lovely anchor for all of these beautiful floral notes. Congrats on 10 years! Thank you for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • I don’t know Neil Morris fragrances but this one sounds lovely. I love aldehydes and florals with a warm but not vanilla base. I am in the UK

  • I love the name of the fragrance and what it signifies; a way of showing love and gratitude. I’m glad it was dedicated to ÇaFleureBon because of their love and dedication in bringing us the best reviews on the internet.
The bottle is also pretty, perfect for springtime.

  • Lavender aldehydes, a showcase of florals, and not a bit of fruit — a lovely tribute to CaFleureBon and an intriguing combination for a lover of floral perfumes like me. Thank you to Gail and Neil for sharing the interview. I really to enjoy the conversational tone of so many reviews here at CaFleureBon. • This one speaks to my heart. I love March and living in a rural area, the fragrance surrounds you. I love the bottling of spring! This sounds heavenly fresh! USA

  • I have loved Neil Morris fragrances for a very long time and have many of his. I don’t think I have a favorite as I love all of the ones I have. What appeals to me about this is Neil’s own statement, “Nature herself, with all the gorgeous floral works of art she lovingly creates, offered the inspiration.” Doesn’t this sound fabulous! As for Cafleurbon, it has brought my attention to so many perfumers and their bodies of work. Thank you. I’m in the USA.

  • What a lovely idea to bring flowers for your anniversary ! And add the incredible narcissus to this bouquet ..
Congratulations on your 10th. Please count me as I’m a floral addict. I’m in CA,USA

  • Oh I am very excited you collaborated with Neil on your 10th anniversary fragrance. I loved white and red quenns by Sarah and the Dawn’s creations as well. Your choice of perfumers is spot on. Enjoyed the interview. It’s awesome your magazine supports indie perfumers, as you know I support indie perfumery myself very much on my channels.

Since aldehydes are underrated nowadays, I love Neil put them into I’ll bring you flowers. I wanna win to cause I own one of Neil’s perfumes which is an ambery, burnt type of fragrance and it’s very nice. Love floral scents and I am intrigued by lavender aldehydes.

    I am in Germany

  • Cafleurebon is the most comprehensive site about perfumes ever – this is what I like about it the most. Also, with a very high level of articles.

Regarding “I will bring you flowers”, I love florals and flowers so I am sure I would love this scent.

I live in Poland and I would love to win!

  • I love vintage floral fragrances with aldehydes and narcissus. This would be up my alley. I also love Ann at Indigo Perfumery. She has a loving heart and opens her doors and arms to everyone to share this passion. Her store always transports me. I enjoy CaFleureBon’s interviews for sure. They give you an insight into the person behind the fragrance. Because, after all, fragrance IS personal. I’m in Cleveland, Ohio, USA about 25 minutes from Indigo Perfumery.

  • I like floral scents so many of the notes appeal to me. But, I also like the idea of how bringing flowers to someone brings joy. A nice inspiration. I most enjoy feeling like I get an insiders look at perfumery with CaFleureBon. Congratulations on 10 years! I live in the USA.

I love Neil Morris’s idea of perfumery. I have not had a chance to smell his perfumes, but I really liked the concept in this – floral but not fruity, with the emphasis on the flowers and elevating them.

I love that it was meant as a “bouquet” for the people at Cafleurebon. What a charming thought! Spring is my favorite season, so I’m always looking for something that really embodies it in a fragrance. I love Cafleurebon because it has given me so much insight into the stories and inspirations behind fragrances I love, as well as introducing me to many new ones. I really need to explore the house of Neil Morris in the future.

    Love from Canada, stay safe!
