Best Perfumes by Nathalie Lorson

As summer unfurls its warmth, blanketing the world in vibrant blooms and sultry air, the fragrance landscape comes alive with florals that capture the season’s exuberance. Among the perfumers who master this genre, Nathalie Lorson, a luminary at dsm-firmenich, stands out for her ability to compose scents that resonate deeply with emotion and artistry. “I don’t do this work for myself. The real goal is to move people,” Lorson once said, emphasizing her dedication to creating fragrances that connect with others rather than serving as a personal canvas. Her humility belies her genius, as she weaves olfactory stories that feel both intimate and universal. For ÇaFleureBon, I’ve selected three of her floral masterpieces—Amouage Blossom Love, Maison Violet Nuée Bleue and Éveilleur I AM —each a radiant ode to summer’s bloom, showcasing Nathalie Lorson and her unparalleled skill in crafting scents that uplift, transport, and inspire.

Choosing just three fragrances from Nathalie Lorson’s vast portfolio is no easy task, but each stands out for their ability to capture summer’s floral essence while showcasing her versatility. Each scent tells a unique story: Blossom Love is a lush, edible springtime dream; Nuée Bleue is a revitalizing monsoon of elegance; and I Am is a Mediterranean garden radiating feminine strength. Lorson’s gift lies in her ability to compose florals that feel alive, moving beyond mere prettiness to evoke deep emotion and connection.

Amouage Blossom Love by Nathalie Lorson

Amouage Blossom Love by Olya Bar©

Amouage Blossom Love 2017 A Lush Springtime Reverie: Amouage Blossom Love is a fragrance that feels like stepping into a spring orchard under a shower of cherry blossoms, their delicate petals carpeting the ground like a fluffy pink rug. Lorson’s creation is a masterful dance of contrasts—edible yet refined, tart yet creamy. The opening bursts with heliotrope and bergamot, a bright, powdery-citrus prelude that sets a joyful tone. At the heart, cherry blossom and amaretto intertwine, evoking the luscious bite of a Turkish delight dusted with sweet almond. Jammy rose and tropical ylang-ylang add a velvety richness, like petals warmed by the sun. The base of vanilla, tonka bean, suede, and amber wraps the composition in a soft, sensual embrace, grounding the floral exuberance with a creamy, slightly leathery warmth. It’s a fragrance that captures the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms while grounding it in Amouage’s signature opulence, making it a perfect choice for summer days when you want to feel both romantic and luxurious.

Notes: Heliotrope, Bergamot; Amaretto, Cherry Blossom, Ylang-Ylang, Rose; Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Suede, Amber.

Maison Violet Nuée Bleue review

Maison Violet Nuée Bleue by Olya Bar©

Maison Violet Nuée Bleue (2019): An Ethereal Summer Monsoon: Revived from its 1827 origins, Maison Violet is a house steeped in heritage, with iris as its cornerstone—a nod to the flower’s violet hue and the brand’s luxurious identity. In Nuée Bleue, Lorson crafts a fragrance that feels like a summer monsoon breaking over a parched landscape, revitalizing and luminous. The scent opens with an iridescent burst of bergamot, lemon, and orange blossom, a citrusy-ozonic sparkle that evokes sunlight glinting off wet leaves. At its core, iris absolute—powdery, buttery, and exquisitely refined—melds with carnation and neroli, the latter infused with a minty, camphorous lavender that adds a cooling, cloudlike lift. The base of sandalwood, benzoin, and musk glows with a milky, radiant warmth, like the soft haze after a storm.

Maison Violet Nuée Bleue is a sensory paradox—ethereal yet grounded, fresh yet sensual. Its moderate sillage makes it ideal for summer’s heat, offering a sophisticated escape that feels like a dreamscape. Lorson’s genius lies in balancing the iris’s powdery elegance with vibrant citrus and creamy woods, creating a fragrance that’s both timeless and otherworldly, a true gem in Maison Violet’s modern revival.

Notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Orange Blossom; Iris Absolute, Carnation, Neroli, Lavender, Sandalwood, Benzoin, Musk.

Éveilleur I Am by Nathalie Lorson

Éveilleur I AM by Olya Bar©

Éveilleur I AM (2024) A Mediterranean Garden in Bloom: Éveilleur, a Croatian brand whose name means “awakener” in French, is a bold newcomer that captures the radiant spirit of the Adriatic coast, crowning each bottle with a symbolic dragonfly cap. In I AM,  Nathalie Lorson distills the essence of a woman standing in a sun-drenched garden, surrounded by blooming peonies and fragrant orange trees. Éveilleur I AM unfolds like a Mediterranean sunrise, each note painting a vivid picture of a coastal idyll. The opening is a vibrant burst of pink pepper and mandarin, a zesty, effervescent spark that mimics the first rays of dawn glinting off the sea. The pink pepper crackles with a spicy, rosy warmth, like the crunch of gravel underfoot as you wander through a garden path, while the mandarin—juicy and slightly green—evokes the zest of freshly peeled citrus, its brightness cutting through the humid air like a cool breeze. This opening is alive, invigorating, and full of promise, setting the stage for the floral heart to come.

At the heart, a lush bouquet blooms with breathtaking beauty. Orange blossoms unfurl its creamy, honeyed sweetness, reminiscent of blossoms swaying in a coastal grove, their scent mingling with the salty tang of the sea. Peony, voluptuous and romantic, adds a soft, powdery richness, its petals seeming to flutter in the warm air. The star of the heart is magnolia, its soapy, humid softness evoking dewy petals glistening under the midday sun. This floral trio is both delicate and bold, capturing the fleeting beauty of a summer garden while grounding it in a tactile, almost liquid humidity that feels like the air after a gentle rain.

The drydown is where I AM reveals its soul, settling into a warm, enveloping embrace. Benzoin lends a resinous, vanillic sweetness, like amber-hued sunlight filtering through ancient trees. Musk adds a clean, skin-like warmth, intimate and inviting, as if the fragrance is whispering secrets against your skin. Cedar, dry and structured, forms a subtle corset that supports the floral exuberance, grounding the composition in a timeless elegance. The base is like the lingering warmth of a summer evening, when the air is soft and the world feels infinite.

Notes: Pink Pepper, Mandarin; Orange Blossom, Peony, Magnolia; Benzoin, Musk, Cedar.

Disclaimer: The bottle of I AM was kindly gifted to me by the brand but opinions are always my own.

  • What really stands out about Nathalie Lorson’s three florals as written are her incredible ability to evoke distinct emotional journeys through flowers.
Each pretty floral is uniquely elevated. Amouage Love feels like a romantic dream, Nuée Bleue a refreshing escape, and Éveilleur I AM a vibrant, empowering hug. Lorson truly makes these scents move you, proving her genius in capturing diverse feelings. VP Texas

Nathalie Lorson might be my favorite perfumer of all time and the notes of I AM sound like a dream. Would definitely love to try!

  • Kr1ms0nk1ng says:

Becoming acquainted with Maison Violet, I quickly learned that Nathalie’s creations have texture, complexity yet familiarity, and a dignified yet not stuffy quality. Comparing. All three of the florals in this log, Nuée Bleue is the only that I’ve had the pleasure of sampling, but the other two certainly peak my interest for one specific fact : neither contains jasmine nor tuberose (my unfortunate nemeses). Perhaps the heliotrope/cherry blossom combo might Blossom Love may have served as a precursor to Comete?

  • Shibuichi2000 says:

What strikes me most about the three fragrances chosen by Olya in this review is how distinctly they interpret summer’s florality, each telling a different emotional story umder Nathalie Lorson’s masterful touch.
The floral notes used to develop them take different directions – silky elegance bordering gourmand (Blossom love), ethereal coolness (Nuée bleue) and vivacious joyfulness (I am). As a lover of florals, I can only say that one can never have enough

  • wonderscent.mari says:

Nathalie Lorson is an outstanding master perfumer and I have been loving her creations which are known for her harmonious and characteristically smooth and sensual olfactive blends. I admire her exceptional talent for creating unique and memorable fragrances like these three florals. What strikes me about Amouage Blossom Love is that is a masterful composition that embodies a delicate passionate modern feminity. An olfactive romance with everlasting passion. In Maison Violet Nuée Bleue loved that it feels fresh but also ethereal, creating a soft and velvety sensation to the skin, a dreamlike escape! Lastly the Mediterranean Beauty I AM of Éveilleur is a reminder to embrace strength, softness and empowerment. What sparks my interest is how the notes revealing the beauty of the floral soul of I AM and how overall captures the beauty of openness and strength intertwined.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful floral fragrances of Nathalie Lorson and for the opportunity to explore this outstanding creation I AM through the giveaway! Greetings from Germany

  • What resonates with me most across all three of these fragrances is Nathalie Lorson’s talent for crafting textures. Each perfume has a tactility that almost transcends scent—Blossom Love is all about velvety softness with an almondy bloom, Nuée Bleue has this sheer, misty, ozone-layer quality, and I AM is lush, juicy, and damp like an actual garden in coastal humidity. These aren’t just “floral perfumes”; they’re microclimates. That sensorial depth makes them feel deeply personal, even if you’re encountering them for the first time. I admire how each scent seems to tell its own story without shouting—more like a whispered memory that sticks.

  • FragranceFrenzyS says:

there’s something magnetic about the way Nathalie Lorson composes floral perfumes —especially in the case of Nuée Bleue. The idea of a summer monsoon breaking over parched ground is a poetic one, and I actually feel it in the contrast between the ozonic citrus and that grounding iris-sandalwood finish. It doesn’t feel like a traditional feminine floral; it’s more conceptual, like a weather pattern rendered in scent. That’s a rare thing. Blossom Love and I AM are more obviously romantic, but still carry this undercurrent of structure and self-assurance that I think keeps them from becoming overly sweet or ephemeral.

  • Lastochka says:

I love how these three perfumes show such a wide range within the floral genre. Blossom Love is playful and dreamy, full of edible nostalgia, while I AM has a more grounded sensuality that reminds me of warm skin after a day in the sun. But Nuée Bleue is the one that lingers in my mind it’s airy but not empty, elegant but modern, and there’s something so comforting in the combination of iris and musk. I appreciate how Lorson brings emotional nuance to her work these are not “nice” florals in the generic sense; they’re emotional, situational, atmospheric. They make you feel like you’re part of a place, or a moment in time.
    EU, Germany

  • AromaAdventurer says:

What I appreciate most is the emotional layering. Blossom Love is exuberant but introspective—it has that gourmand twist that makes it feel more intimate than just a “pretty cherry blossom scent.” Nuée Bleue reads almost androgynous to me, which I admire a lot, and I AM feels deeply Mediterranean, not in the postcard sense, but in the way it balances sun-drenched optimism with quiet earthiness. You can sense the Mediterranean light in the mandarin and peony, but there’s also depth—cedar, musk, and benzoin keeping it rooted. That contrast between surface beauty and emotional substance is what makes them so compelling.

  • LindenNoir says:

Reading about these perfumes, I’m struck by how thoughtfully they seem to evoke both a place and a feeling. Blossom Love reminds me of a spring memory you can’t quite place it’s sweet, but also slightly melancholic, like beauty that’s too fleeting. Nuée Bleue feels like standing on a balcony just after rain, when everything smells clean and charged with electricity. And I AM is the sun setting over a terracotta garden wall, when the day’s heat lingers in the air and everything seems golden. I admire how Lorson’s work doesn’t just smell floral it conveys emotional tone through scent. That’s what sets her apart in my eyes.

  • melanierosefragrances says:

I love Nathalie Lorson’s expressions of femininity. I’ve smelled two of the three, and love this selection for its softness and life. I live in Virginia and am grateful for the opportunity!

  • I never really liked floral perfumes, I always thought they were too much but as I became more familiar with fragrances and I learned more about composition I began to be drawn to deep, beautiful, and masterfully created floral scents. Clearly Olya knows how to immerse the wearer in an experience of a real garden with all its nuances. That is striking, and moving. In maryland.

  • Ramses Perez says:

I like that Olya selected 3 fragrances with various degrees of sillage/power to showcase a wide array of options. Amouage is an iconic house and I was not aware that Nathalie Lorain created Blossom Love which is a floral scent with a sweet/creamy backdrop; very pretty. I’m not too familiar with the other 2 houses but Maison Violet’s Nuée Bleue’s iris/lavender combo is one you can’t go wrong with for summer. I Am takes a more artistic approach and tells a story about Croatia and its beauty. This one is more of a musky floral scent with a sweet base to help with the longevity. A great selection of fragrances indeed. I’m located in the USA,

  • I am so grateful the giveaway is for I Am because I already have two bottles of Maison Violet Nuée Bleue! I completely agree with you that is a top tier fragrance, top Iris for certain! It is perfection. Blossom Love I’ve only sampled years ago so I need to try that again. I’m super excited to try I Am. It sounds beautiful, Nathalie Lorson Is amazing!
I am located in the U.S.

  • As a gardener, I’m drawn to floral notes in perfumery. I do love the scent of my garden after it rains. I Am seems to capture that beautiful scent. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff. MI USA

  • The florals in 1 AM sound the most interesting to me. I haven’t smelled anything like them before.

  • Nice collection of floral perfumes, Olya! Mme. Lorson is a genius, whether with florals, vetiver or whatever raw material she approaches. Amouage Blossom Love is a luxury and opulent cherry blossom scent.Maison Violet Nuée Bleue is a fresh sensual iris centered perfume tinged with vibrant citrus and creamy woods. Éveilleur I AM looks like an abstract grand floral with a warm and musky base. the flower trio she uses is orange blossoms (in a very Mediterranean way), peony, powdery rich and magnolia, a summer flower in a soapy, soft way. I live in Spain, EU.

  • Dwkr2525@gmail.com says:

I can’t wait to try this! I love powdery iris! I have not tried any of these perfumes before and they look promising. Thank you for the drawing. USA

  • Nathalie Lorson is one of the best perfumers working today imho.
From her I have Marly Oriana and would love to add Eveilleur I AM to my collection.
I live in the US. Thank you for sharing that indigo carries that brand. I will order samples.

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

I have an idyllic vision of a woman standing in a Mediterranean garden in full bloom, it is my secret dream. I am from EU

  • It seems like all three fragrances while featuring different florals all share a somewhat vanillic dry down. I haven’t smelled any of these but I would be interested in experiencing the differences for myself as I do enjoy many of Nathalie’s fragrances. I’m in the USA

  • That distinction between a floral that feels “alive” and those that don’t is a good one—I seek out the former and rarely am interested in the latter. Nuée Bleue stands out for that “minty, camphorous lavender” and feel of flowers freshly doused in rain. I AM has the salty floral heart in its favor, but I’m also intrigued by that sunny mandarin and pepper opening, which sounds like a joy to wear in summer heat.

    I’m in the USA.

  • The three floral perfumes by Nathalie Lorson Amouage Blossom Love, Maison Violet Nuée Bleue, and Éveilleur I AM stand out for their vivid storytelling and emotional depth. Blossom Love is a lush, romantic springtime dream with creamy almond notes. Nuée Bleue captures an ethereal, rain-soaked elegance with powdery iris and citrus. I AM radiates vibrant Mediterranean strength, blending zesty mandarin and lush florals. Each feels alive, balancing beauty and substance. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • jennapark says:

What stands out about Nathalie Lorson’s creations are their beautiful blend and ability to transport you to a different place. What is really special about her creations is her ability to tell a story or capture a feeling with a scent. It’s very clear she pours her heart and soul into her work. 1am sounds beautiful. I love the way the author describes 1 am. The beginning being like walking through a blooming garden. Then the more floral notes and salty sea air. Then finally the comforting wood and vanilla notes giving a warm summer evening in a scenic location. The authors details the fragrance like an experience not just a perfume. I look forward to testing this scent. Thank you! Pennsylvania USA

  • Nathalie Lorson seems to have a way with florals. I appreciate that she captures the essence of the flower and not just their superficial prettiness. Blossom Love evokes spring florals while Nuee Bleue focuses on iris in a summer monsoon. I AM has a lush bouquet with orange blossom, peony and magnolia in a mediterranean garden. All three sound lovely. MD, USA

  • What strikes me about this trio is how each fragrance seems to capture a different facet of summer blooms. Blossom Love evokes the decadent and fleeting nature of early summer. The peak of midsummer is reflected in the lush radiance of I AM. And the sudden drenching and revitalization of a summer storm is conjured by Nuée Bleue. I am in USA.

  • I love everything Nathalie Lorson has created, and Maison Violet Nuee Bleue and Amouage Blossom Love are no exceptions. I am sure it was very hard to choose only three fragrances from her! I’ve loved Blossom Love since its release; it’s such a gorgeous floral gourmand for spring. I love Olya’s comment that it’s “edible yet refined, tart yet creamy”. Nuee Bleue is a gorgeous iris fragrance. The iris is so comforting, yet the citrus notes make it a perfect summer fragrance. Olya’s description of it being “a sophisticated escape that feels like a dreamscape” is so accurate. I have yet to try Eveilleur I AM, but I’ve wanted to since Eveilleur released their fragrances. I am especially intrigued by the floral notes, as I love orange blossom, peony, and magnolia. Overall, I AM sounds like a very beautiful composition.

Thank you, Olya, for the great reviews, and thank you to Éveilleur for the giveaway. I am located in the USA.

  • I AM is such a radiant tribute to the Mediterranean—floral, warm, and full of soul. Nathalie Lorson captures both strength and softness with effortless grace. Her talent for creating unique, emotionally resonant florals truly shines through. I imagine this scent as a comforting, empowering hug in perfume form. Thank you for the opportunity to experience this beauty through the giveaway here in Denver, CO!

  • Beautiful blog Olya, and what beautiful creations by master perfumer Nathalie Lorson, I love the elegance and warmth of Blossom Love. Greetings from Massachusetts, USA.

  • foreverscents says:

This was a very timely post for me–I have just started to appreciate floral fragrances after normally only wearing amber and leather fragrances. All three of the choices sound like a perfect introduction to floral fragrances and the art of Nathalie Lorson. Blossom Love 2017 sounds like a beautiful cherry blossom fragrance with opulence and sensuality. Olya’s description of Nuée Bleue as summer monsoon breaking over a parched landscape appeals to me. The orange blossom and iris notes sound elegant and vibrant. Finally, I AM sounds like a gorgeous representation of the Adriatic Coast, with its glistening magnolia note.
Thank you for the giveaway and for the chance to become acquainted with Nathalie Lorson.
    I live in the USA.

  • I’ve never had the pleasure of experiencing any scents by Nathalie Lorson. I think I’m most interesting in the new I AM just because of the Mediterranean vibe because of my love for coastal & tropical scents that invoke a specific kind of summer. Thank you for the introduction to another master perfumer. USA

  • Kensolfactoryodyssey says:

What strikes me most about the three floral fragrances by Nathalie Lorson is how each one tells a distinct, emotionally resonant story through scent. Blossom Love feels like a soft-focus memory of spring’s sweetness—lush, edible, nostalgic—while Nuée Bleue is the refreshing inhale after summer rain, balancing iris’s elegance with citrus sparkle. But Éveilleur I AM truly captivated me; its evocation of a Mediterranean garden is both grounding and luminous, like sunlight filtered through blooming branches. The way Lorson translates emotion into atmosphere is remarkable—her florals aren’t just beautiful, they’re transportive.

I’m in California, USA. Thank you for this generous opportunity!

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the cool writeup. Been reading about Nathalie’s fragrance all these years on CFB and she does seem to work with florals (and perhaps musks) the most.

I would love to try Maison Violet Nuée Bleue, since the use of iris with carnation is so unique.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • emorandeira says:

Oh! What a generous giveaway! I love the work of Nathalie lorson and It would be great for me to try I am by eveilleur since I love the combination of White flowers and benzoin. From Nathalie’s work I really LOVE Nuee bleue. This fresh and cold iris mixed with cítric and White flowers is for me just addictive. I am commenting from Lugo in Spain (EU)

  • Olya’s selections of Nathalie Lorson’s floral masterpieces highlight her extraordinary versatility and emotional depth as a perfumer. What truly strikes me is how each fragrance, while distinctly floral, evokes such unique atmospheres and narratives.

Amouage Blossom Love captivates with its “lush, edible springtime dream.” The contrast of tart and creamy, especially the cherry blossom and amaretto, creates a delightful, almost gourmand, floral that must feel both opulent and whimsical.

Maison Violet Nuée Bleue stands out as an “ethereal summer monsoon.” Its ability to be “fresh yet sensual,” with the cooling iris and luminous citrus, paints a vivid picture of revitalization and calm after a storm. It is a sophisticated paradox.

Éveilleur I AM embodies a “Mediterranean garden radiating feminine strength.” The vibrant opening with pink pepper and mandarin, leading to the rich blend of orange blossom, peony, and magnolia, must feel truly alive and empowering. The description of it “distilling the essence of a woman standing in a sun-drenched garden” is particularly evocative. I would love to own a bottle of this floral masterpiece.

Across all three, Lorson’s genius in crafting florals that “feel alive” and move “beyond mere prettiness to evoke deep emotion and connection” is powerfully evident.

My gratitude to Éveilleur. I reside in the NW, USA.

  • These all sound so unique and brilliant. I am has all the notes i love… I’m becoming to enjoy peony, and the orange blossom, with the hint of seaside, sounds perfect to me. I do love florals, and Mme. Lorson’s are full and not fake, moving but not overwhelming. I appreciated her piercing gaze in her portrait, too!
Continue the brilliant work, Maestra Lorson! Thank you for the lovely review and generous draw, from the US.

Olya review is very interesting. She said that DSCVR ME! Is an aromatic, marine-woody fragrance. Like a Mediterranean scent. Bright, fresh, slightly herbaceous, perfect scent to take to Mediterranean vacays.

I AM, is a bright and spicy-floral rich creamy bouquet softened by magnolia and musk. Perfect for a daily scent.

NOT INNOCENT seems like a Creamy almond caramel opens in a warm, powdery vanilla-sandalwood base. Gourmand but balanced and elegant . Perfect for night dates.

In conclusion 3 fragrances for 3 different Occasions. Perfect creations!

They all sound amazing. Especially Blossom Love with the Turkish delight. I Am sounds perfect for summer with that feel of the Adriatic Sea. The photos are beautiful as always. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • All three are bright and unconventional scents that seems to compliment many different occasions and scenarios. The I AM really interests me. With pink pepper, mandarin, and orange blossom makes for a rich and sweet wear that sticks with you. This has a fresh pop that most try and all too often come up short. I’m sure that this not only is a rich standout fragrance but also one that doesn’t lack in any department. The woody and musky dry down provide a stable base for all of the elements to shine without an obvious imbalance. Would love to own, from Jacksonville, NC.
