Mugler Alien Fusion Review (Fanny Bal & Dominique Ropion) + Fire and Ice Draw

For the latest edition in the Alien Canon,  Mugler has called upon Master Perfumer Dominique Ropion and one of the newest on-trend perfumers Fanny Bal to create an Alien for a new generation of fragrance lovers; Alien Fusion. Since the original release of Alien in 2005, Alien (and all of Mugler’s scents for that matter), still remains at the forefront of pushing boundaries and the Silicon Valley idiom of “Break sh*t and re-invent.” Love them or hate them Mugler perfumes always polarize, divide, create buzz, and are never boring.

“In the heart of the desert, when the sun meets the moon and day and night come together, an eclipse occurs. Within this raging blaze, a new talisman is born: Alien Fusionrance. Mystical and remarkable, the Alien Fusion perfume is the result of a unique encounter between sensual notes of vanilla and spicier notes of cinnamon. With Alien Fusion, MUGLER has reinvented Alien as a warm and feminine spicy floral oriental Eau de Parfum; fiery and terrifically sensual.” –Mugler

Co -creator Fanny Bal, (best known for Frederic Malle’s Sale Gosse, Masque Milano’s Hemingway, Armani’s New York, and Givenchy’s re-interpretation of the iconic L’Interdit), brings a younger vibe to  the often polarizing Alien by replacing jasmine with Tuberose and orange blossom, dialing back the amber, and adding the au courant note of ginger mixed with cinnamon; all blending to create a cool/warm and spice-laden scent.

Like traveling to a distant star lit by a Red Dwarf sun and twin moons, Mugler Alien Fusion in its electric red iteration of the classic Alien bottle, blasts off with a jet-stream contrail of ginger and orange blossom, followed by a blast of spiciness from the cinnamon. Fusion is all about matter/anti-matter polar opposites as it veers and rockets through its olfactive trajectory. One moment hot as a raging fire, then cool as an Arctic wind.

La Chimere Couture Collection A/W Thierry Mugler: Galaxy Glamour.

It’s a fascinating ride with its feeling of opposing sides; sun vs. moon, feminine vs. masculine vs. gender fluidity. The tuberose adds a fleshy fatty aspect which fits perfectly with the smooth amber base. Non-sweet vanilla creates an almost tonal and jarring metallic vibe, resulting in a classic “otherworldly” Mugler fragrance. Like standing in the technicolor sunset of a dying sun with a sky the color of melting sherbet sundae of oranges, pinks, red, and slightly feral, Alien Fusion might just be the perfect “Alien gateway” perfume for a newly wired and connected generation.

Notes: Ginger, cinnamon, orange blossom, tuberose, amber, vanilla.

Disclosure: Thanks so much to Mugler USA for the Alien Fusion. The opinions are my own.

By looking at the bottle you'd think that the perfume is all about fire, so I was pleasantly surprised to read about the polarizing aspects of the perfume, which reflects the creativity of two very different perfumers. The Lady Gaga photos were a fun addition to the review. I very much like the warm assertiveness of the original Alien. I live in the US.

  • Is it possible to create an ‘Alien’ even more ‘alien’ than original ‘Alien’?  Roberts review makes me think that Alien Fusion May very well be just that!  I love the original as well as nearly all of the flankers and would love to try this one, as well.  I am in the US.  Thank you for the chance!

  • Yes! I enjoyed the original Alien. Thet pics in the article definitely reflect the vibe of the newest flanker. Hey, isn't that Cardi B? I'm interested in sniffing the cinnamon and ginger notes in Alien Fusion. Thanks for another great article and draw. USA

The timing of this review is a coincidence as I first watched Too Funky video this or last month only and loved it. Emma Sjoberg was, without a doubt, the best performer in the video. I love original alien and glad to have it in one of the early formulas. Alien Fusion seems like a warmer edition of original Alien. I am in US.

  • Love Alien, of course Alien Fusion sounds incredible!  Love all cool pictures!  Thank you Robert for the fun article.  USA

Thanks Robert for a really interesting review.  This sounds quite intriguing. I do wonder.  I will have to try.  Thank you for a most generous draw. I'm in the USA

  • I appreciated the originality of the OG Alien but it was everywhere I was more a fan of a few flankers and Exclusifs. This sounds like another winner Thanks Robert for your description love Gaga and Cardi b! Love to try! USA

  • great review and it sounds like millennial Alien with tuberose and orang blossom. I didn’t love the original too strong. Go GaGa. Loved the Art was brilliant so amazing

I love the red bottle, seems like a perfect match to the new notes of ginger and cinnamon. My favorite alien is the Absolute version but this sounds like it might be a contender. Thanks for the lovely review and chance to try it! I’m in the US.

Since it was launched, I've never been without a bottle of Alien. I am a big fan of this perfume and of the Mugler house in general (Womanity is also a part of my permanent collection). I like the idea of a an harmony of the contrast fragrance (cool/warm- matter/antimatter) and I will definitely try it as soon as I can. I am in the U.S.

Wow!  Loved the review, especially the other-worldly theme Mugler is so known for.  Still a big fan of the original, and it always seems to turn heads due to its strength and simplicity.  Really hoping the new "alien gateway" opens doors to something more daring or creative in the future. USA

  • Interesting! Yes, I have the original and wear it on ocassion. I have to be in the mood. I like the idea of the red bottle, but it still sounds sweet and gourmand. I love tuberose. Hi Robert! It's good to see you again. I always enjoy the image selections to accompany these reviews.

Thanks for this review! I was curious as to whether it would be more of warm or cold weather scent and the polarizing aspects of it seem quite interesting. I love Alien and personally can not understand how anyone could not so I love to see this flanker which seems to be more of a coursin to the original than a little sister. Can’t wait tot try!

  • The review was well written and descriptive and the pictures are fun too, I do love the original alien and flankers I would love to be the lucky owner of a bottle of this one! Thank you cafleurebon and mugler(a wonderful and generous company, won't find better customer service) for the chance I live in the US north Carolina.

  • I like alien, but don't own my! This sounds lovely, as I love orange blossom notes, and the idea of opposing sides  Thank you for the wonderful review and the lovely draw. In the US.

I am interested in the tuberose in this fragrance. I can't wait to see how the vanilla adds a metallic note to this composition. I have always respected Mugler fragrances and their polarizing combination of notes. I also like the prolific creativity from this house. I live in the USA.

  • I loved the original Alien, but this warm and feminine spicy floral oriental is my favorite scent genre, so I know that it will be a must for me! Thank you for the draw, live in the US.

  • I've never smelled any Alien fragrance so I wasn't sure what to think about this.  Robert  gives a great description of what this scent is about and it sounds terrific!  I would be excited to win this. In the USA.

  • I love that ginger is trending right now – it’s such an interesting note. I’m intrigued by the hot-cold character that Robert mentions. To me, Mugler Aura played with temperature by being very chilly on my skin, so I’d like to see how the effect is achieved here. I like the original Alien, but my favorite version is the Alien Essence Absolue. I’m in the US. Many thanks for the review and draw!

  • I have a soft spot for Mugler as I loved the original Angel. I've thought Alien was good, but not great, but this variation on it does sound more appealing. I am rather interested in the tuberose and ginger interplay. I live in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • I love the review and reading it made me remember the bottle of Alien I was gifted which got stolen from my house. It’s been a long time but I don’t think I ever got over it…lol. I’m a huge fan and I’ll be overly excited if I won.

    I live in USA.

  • The whole cool/warm idea of this perfume intrigues me, and I love ginger and cinnamon.  I have a bottle of the original Alien – one of my first bottle purchases.  The bottles are absolutely gorgeous IMO.  I live in the USA.

  • My s/o is a big fan of Alien.  This sounds like a fantastic spin on the original, and sounds like it coudl work as a unisex frag.  Unfortunately Alien Man was a total letdown.  Thank you for the review and would love a chance to win.  USA

  • The pics and review are well put together to give the idea of an enigma of a fragrance. I remember years ago the first time I smell Alien on a woman. It was amazing and mesmerizing. It was very familiar and alien. Fusion sounds like it could be another mystical wearable fragrance. I live in USA, CA.

  • Ivan.napoleon says:

It really intrigues me this frag. I think Alien man was dessapointed. Id love to try this!

    Miami Florida

    Thanks

  • This sounds incredible with those spicy top notes, layered with florals and then ending with amber. I do like the original Alien but I think I will end up liking this one even more.

    I live in Pennsylvania (USA)

  • I loved the original Alien and this ones sounds amazing! I love the idea of polar opposites and pushing boundaries to the limit. I was most intrigued by these lines: "Fusion is all about matter/anti-matter polar opposites as it veers and rockets through its olfactive trajectory. One moment hot as a raging fire, then cool as an Arctic wind." I would love to try this one. Thanks for the giveaway and I live in the US!
