Map of The Heart Red Heart V.3 Review (Jacques Huclier) +Dream Team Draw

Map of The Heart Red Heart V.3 review

Map of The Heart Red Heart V.3 collage by Michelyn (images from Map of the Heart and still from 9 ½ weeks)

I first met Map of the Heart Founders and Creative Directors Sarah Blair and Jeffrey Darling at Esxence in 2015. In 2014, the Australian film producers, writers and designers focused their talents and artistic vision on perfume.  In collaboration with a dream team: Givaudan master perfumer Jacques Huclier (the nose behind many of MUGLER fragrances including A*Men in 1996, and the top notch flankers including A*Men Pure Havane) and the renowned Perfumed Plume award winning flacon designer Pierre Dinand (YSL Opium among many others) they created a series that navigates a fragrant topography of human emotions, textures and feelings. Map of The Heart Red Heart V.3 is the third in the series and although the brand is not new it might be to some of our readers and viewers (we have written about The Art ad Olfaction Finalist Pink Heart V.6 and U.K. Fragrance Foundation award winning White Heart V.7).

In today’s CaFleureBon Editor Video, Sebastian Jara talks about his visit to TWA Cannes just a few weeks ago where he met Sarah and Jeffrey and why he was immediately taken with Map of The Heart Red Heart V.3. There are elements in Red Heart V.3 that are distinctly M. Huclier’s signature as well as the sensuous use of feijoia, a pulpy fruit at the “heart”. In fact he is reminded of the scene in the 1986 movie 9 ½ weeks when Mickey Rourke is feeding Kim Basinger luscious red fruits. –Michelyn Camen, Editor in Chief

Disclosure: Opinions are his own and a bottle was sent to Sebastian at our request.

  • Guava, tuberose, incense? Those are some strange notes together, and yet he says it is fruity. I want to try this! I am in ithe USA

  • Sebastian is the best! What a gorgeous bottle! Big tuberose fan here, based on these other notes this sure sounds fantastic. I love eating whole guavas. Canada

  • Sebastian says Map of the Heart v3 is very musky and it reminds him of a scene from 9 1/2 weeks when the women is eating fruits. Sebastian also goes into the early history of AMen to explain how Huclier is a celebrated perfumer. I am in US

  • cynie_winneh says:

I found Sebastian’s channel just a while ago, but I fell in love with the way he explains the scents. You’re really helping me finding my own, personal scents. Thank you.

  • wooow !! Very strange notes together but it sounds very interesting and it is best to smell different from other people I am from the USA

  • I enjoy Sebastian’s knowledgeable and to the point reviews. I loved the exotic sound of this fragrance and the uncommon notes. The bottle is also very specific. Would love to win this, from the EU.

  • I really enjoyed Sebastians description of the fragrance as well as his story about his father having a feijoia fruit tree and it being a very fragrant fruit. The notes sound wonderful for this fragrance and the bottle is super unique. In the U.S. Thanks for the generous draw.

  • Sandra Damadzic says:

His reviews are always so detailed that sometimes I can actually imagine how it smells. He is one of my favorite reviewers. One thing that got stock in my head from this review is juicy apple. Anything with apple I looooove!!!!!
    Thank you for the opportunity.

  • I loved learning about the perfumers. I didn’t know that. I also didn’t know of the other word for guava. I have Clear Heart but am selling it. It’s not my jam. I do love red heart. It is delish: spicy with tart fruit, vanilla, musk and patchouli; beautiful but derivative if you have many of the other dark fruity vanilla frags out there.

  • As always, Sebastian is very concise and to the point. His presentation makes me drool, literally.. So many fruits and spices..I believe it’s a great fragrance! And I love the bottle, it’s a heart, with the aorta entering into the heart. Beautiful!

  • diamondcutter says:

Pink peppercorn? juicy apple ?…and that bottle ..Oh man I would love that perfume!
Is the first time I hear about the house , and I love they give attention to details . The box is amazing. I would feel great wearing the idea behind that perfume .

  • This is an interesting fragrance with a unique combination of notes. Sebastian’s presentation of the fragrance was always compelling and I enjoyed seeing the beautiful bottle. I live in the USA.

  • Sunny Chaudhary says:

Guava is my favorite fruit and in a scent? I WOULD SURELY WANT TO TRY THIS 🙂

A huge fan of Sebastian and for me he is the best! He went deep into explaining while talking about AMEN. He is the best in the game 😀

What a gorgeous bottle! Hope to win 🙂

    I am in USA

  • I’ve always been curious of Musk fragrances, but never had a chance to try any. Sebastian description of this Map of the Heart v3 scent intrigues me and might make me delve deeper into this fragrance house more.

  • Scentedwow1 says:

Sebastian made this perfume review sound more like a delicious dessert description.
Me:’Sounds delicious! Musky? Could I have two, please ?’ )))
I’ve read reviews on this perfumery house, was curious to sample but never found in the stores around where I live. Now this article and the review made me even more interested in sampling their line. Thank you !
    I’m in Switzerland.

  • Andrei artimon says:

Very nice bottle and presentation , i would really like to put my nose on this one specially that is the same perfumer as the A men series !! New york , usa .

  • Thank you Sebastian! Love the fun heart bottle and description of map of the heart scent. Pulpy fruits with guava. Vanilla and Patchouli, how can you go wrong. Would love to try this out. USA

  • Shamrock1313 says:

Sebastian does such a great job breaking down fragrances and this one sounds very good. Bottles are cool as well. Have not tried this house yet unfortunately.

  • Sebastian mentioned a juicy red apple note in this fragrance. I’m de interested. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff! USA

  • Great review from Sebastian, i’m not a big tuberose fan but it sounds good . I was always intrigued by this fragrance and especially by the bottle that looks really cool. I would love to try it so thanks for the chance, i’m in the EU.

  • sourovrayhan says:

Undoubtedly, Sebastian’s descriptions were amazing, but what intrigued me the most is how he mentioned the guava note in this fragrance. Growing up in a country where guavas were a significant, abundant fruit, this perfume will definitely make me nostalgic of my childhood on summer days of enjoying this fruit!

  • Intrigued by the guaba note but also by the opening as a red apple dripping. Love to try it! Ana, Romania EU

  • I really loved Sebastian’s description of the fragrance and how it is reminiscent of his father’s feijoa tree.

  • Steliyan Syarov says:

Love the way Sebastian makes his reviews and describes the fragrances. He always aims to give us a vusial representation of he feels while testing the bottle. I’m very intrigued by this fragrance. Lovely notes and beautifully looking bottle. I would love to have a change to win it. Greetings from Austria.

  • Monica Beaton says:

Wow – another great Sebastian review! I loved 91/2 weeks – it’s one of those movies that sort of stays with you. Put all that sexy in a bottle and I’m sold. I also love that Map of the Heart is an Aussie brand – I’ve been wanting to try their fragrances for a very long time. I live in Australia.

  • What i enjoyed most about Sebastianes review , was how much he covered.
It told you both about the fragrance itself, and personal connection he made from his memories and told us some history too?

What’s not to appreciate about that.

    From the Eu.

  • OMG! I am sure i will absolutely love this one. I am such a big tuberose fan and combined with fruits and incence…it shoud be amazing. I would love, love, love to try it. Also an amazing bottle! Congrats! ❤️

  • Hi reviews are so realistic in a way I can smell it back here at home. And the juicy Apple sounds really intriguing. Thank you so much for this opportunity
    CA USA

  • I loved that Sebastian says this perfumer made A men and other flankers and the personal connection he made with this scent and what a gorgeous bottle. Cheers from UK

  • I liked the part where Sebastian is reminded of the film 9 and half weeks intrugued by the red apple, cinnamon and vanilla notes. Cheers from UK

  • I really enjoyed how Sebastian correlates the red apples found in this fragrance with the memories he has of his father. The description he gives of the fragrance is great – how it hints at pepper and how the apple notes are very wet for example – but it’s the detail of the memory that makes it so special and makes us so appreciative of the personal relationship he has with this fragrance. Scent and memory are so intricatelly connected – it really is one of the elements that makes any perfume magical.

  • Sebastian described this fragrance very well. Yes, it is very fruity, but also a little bit smokey. A pretty perfume 🙂 I would love to have it. I`m in EU

  • I love guava, vanilla, and musk. This sounds like an absolute dream fragrance. And that bottle is so unique and alluring. The presentation of this is spot on. It is an excellent conversation piece to own. (USA)

  • Bryant Worley says:

I appreciated the fact that he.hlghlighted the sexiness of the composition. That, the note breakdown, and the fact that I respect Sebastian’s opinion makes this a must try.

  • Sounds scrumptous! 9 1/2 Weeks being one of my all time favorite movies. Also I love Mugler fragrances. The bottle is different. USA

  • I loved how excited Sebastian was about this fragrance, it really made me want to try this creation by the creator behind many of the fragrances from one of my fave designer houses Mugler! Juicy apple, guava, incense, cinnamon, along with a cozy musky dry down, yes please! Sebastian words pulpy, vanillic musky! I live in the USA.

  • Daryl Gathing says:

I really enjoyed the review of Map of the Heart. The way be described the scent is what really had me interested. Aside from the unique bottle of course. I really like Pure Havane so I’m curious to try this one.

  • What a unique sounding fragrance. From the description in the video I think I’d quite like this. I’m not exactly on board with the bottle though. US

  • Gorgeous bottle shaped just like the heart and with the detailed description of the juice in the bottle can’t wait to have this awesome fragrance.

  • Although Sebastian didn’t say this is unisex, I hope it is. There’s always room on my shelf for another sexy fragrance – bring it! Although the bottle may be polarizing, I love it. My son had open heart surgery 9 years ago at age 22. He’ll either love it or throw it at me. I can still duck. I live in the USA.

  • I always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews. I especially love the listing of the notes. This sounds really interesting and I hope I’m lucky enough to win. Different bottle. Thanks for the review and the generous draw. I’m in the USA

  • I enjoyed this video ! Thank you Sebastian, great job!
I did not know that this perfume was created by angel and A*Men perfumer.
It’s sexy musky with red wet apples and vanilla?-sounds very sexy!
    So nice presentation!

What a crazy combination of notes. I really have not heard of a guava fragrance. It’s nice to hear Sebastian talk about picking fruit from the feijoia tree.
Thanks so much for an excellent review.

    Love from Madison, WI

  • Sebastian is the best! What a gorgeous bottle! Big tuberose fan here, based on these other notes this sure sounds fantastic.USA

  • This sounds really interesting and unique. I would love to smell feijoia! Sebastian’s description of the rest of the notes; tuberose, musk and patchouli make it sound like a very sensual fragrance. I love the beating heart bottle as well. I’m in the US.

  • TheScentedScotswoman says:

I was glad to see Sebastian’s review on Map of the Heart because very few others are talking about this brand. Great to see them get some love. I would love the chance to win a bottle as I’ve been keen to try them since Luca Turin’s glowing review of Black Heart.
    I’m in the UK.

  • Nice job Pierre Dinand – nice job. In 2019 fragrance world presentation is important , and no doubt Map of Heart bottles are unique.
Juicy apples, guava , some spice , sandalwood and jasmine. I’m sold . If White Heart v. 3 on my skin smells like Sebastian description , and the performance is good-i’ll get it. Performance is important to me , if i have to pay niche prices.
    Thanks for the generosity .
Back and forth between USA and Scotland. 1 week in USA -> 1 week in Scotland , and so on.Basically both USA and EU/UK at the same time.

  • “I have never seen a bottle like this one. Bold choice to use it.”
My thoughts when I read Gail Gross Map of the Heart White Heart v. 7 review a few months back.
Back then Gail description of v.7 reminded me of homemade plum jam my grandma is making each year. Thanks why I bought it , but it was not an easy task . A friend of mine brought it from Europe.
Maybe I’m thinking about grandma a lot, or just Map of the Heart White Heart v.3 I feel connected with, but again I’m thinking about one of grandma’s jams , apple and cinnamon one .
    Thanks .
I hope with this great review some fragrance boutique in USA will start selling Map of the Heart here. I don’t like to order fragrance from abroad.

  • Hendrix Wilson says:

I enjoyed Sebastian talking about the way the scent reminds him of a juicy red apple. I love the smell of fresh apples. I have followed his nose of several fragrances in his videos. Sebastian seems to be the most knowledgeable reviewer on the web today. USA

  • The research and insight of Sebastians reviews are always stunning. What got me hooked this time was the description of the fruitiness and succulency of this scent, which sounds really alluring to me. I am not yet familiar with Map of The Heart, but I´d very much like to get to know it. I am located in the EU.

  • Love the design of the bottle. The notes are an interesting combination. This is one I definitely want to try! Living in the EU

  • I love the visual images stirred by the description of the pulpy fruit notes. I am not sure about the bottle though. It makes me feel like a heart surgeon! In any case, I’d love to try the juice inside. Thanks for the as always great review Sebastian. USA

  • patrick_348 says:

This is one of Sebastian’s best reviews. I like how he related the guava note to his own experiences growing up, how he connected it to some of his favorite Mugler fragrances, and how his description of the progression through the top, heart, and base made it sound appealing. Good organization, good vivid language! I am in the USA.

  • If Sebastian states that this is gorgeous with hints of Mugler creativity it most be good. The fruity / musky notes really spark my interest. Really look forward to trying this sometime in the near future.

  • A deep fruity tuberose fragrance, that sounds so great. I love how Sebastian breaks down the notes and keeps it both objective and personal at the same time. The bottle looks just as special as the juice sounds. From eu.

  • I loved his review! I like how he describes it as a jammy, dessert style fragrance. I would have never guessed it smelled that way based on some of the notes. I imagine the guava really smooths it all out and gives it that fruity vibe.
    I live in the US.

  • m.r.everything says:

Map of the Heart is a brand that I got very interested in after reading about The White Heart v.7…. one of my favorite notes in perfumery is plum. When I read that v.7 had a plum note that was to die for, I knew it would be one I had to have! I was also interested in The Red Heart v.3 for its apple and guava notes and The Purple Heart v.5 for its plum, ink, and cherry notes. The whole concept of the brand is amazing…. the bottles are beautiful and the fragrances themselves just sound so over the top and outstanding! Sebastian has really sold me on The Red Heart since he chose it to review out of all the other hearts. Not too many people are talking about this brand so for him to bring The Red Heart forward, it has caught my attention even more. The fruity compote and pulpy comments have won me over…. I LOVE Pulp by Byredo, so just using these words, Sebastian really caught my attention! Thank you Sebastian for the great review and for bringing this brand and, in particular, The Red Heart to the forefront! (The presentation is gorgeous by the way! Good luck to all and I hope everyone has a “heart” filled day! I live in Delaware, US.

  • I love the enthusiasm Sebastian brings to his reviews. I would love to try a sophisticated fruit based perfume. Map of the Heart V.3 sounds like it would be both fun, exotic and interesting enough for the jaded perfume aficionado. Excited that it was created with Jacques Huclier. I’m in the USA.

  • This sounds utterly divine and quite right for summer coming up here in Australia.
You know, a lot of people get snobby about fruity frags but IMHO they can be done SO WELL. Take Le Labo Bergamote 22 for example – I am not the biggest fan of the brand but I have their best three scents, one of them being the aforementioned. The bitter cool bergamot is incomparable!
Another fave is By Kilian Playing with the Devil – intensely zesty fruity mandarin – so good!!
So I am always interested in how niche houses approach such a “basic” genre.
Please enter me in the draw – I am in Melbourne Australia

The thing I liked most about Sebastian’s YouTube review of Map of the Heart Red Heart V.3 is the detailed description of the notes. It not only gave me an idea of what the fragrance smells like, but it literally painted a picture in my mind of what the various notes are like. Based on the review, this is something I REALLY want to get my nose on! In addition, I love the bottle itself and the presentation.

  • I love fruity floral fragrances and it’s indeed a very sexy fragrance as described by Sebastian. The bottle is a strange one but I love it. I love guava so much.
    I live in USA

  • I was introduced to Map of Heart , and particularly v. 7 through UK based blog , and the author compared it to Plum Japonais by Tom Ford. Plum Japonais is my favorite fragrance ever , so I was intrigued. Then it came Gail Gross Cafleurebon review , and I made my mind to check this house out , and I did in London , Harrods to be precise. White Heart v. 7 I end up buying, because of the juicy plum.
I find the whole line really appealing, and there was no fragrance I wouldn’t wear.
I fully agree with Sebastian on V3 , there is a compote vibe , and I know, because I still make my own compotes for over 20 years.
V3 is fruity yes , I barely get spiciness but it’s also a bit bitter, maybe it comes from the guava , I don’t know.
My personal favorite Map of Heart fragrances are:
    1. White Heart V7
    2. Purple Heart V5
    3. Red Heart V3
    Great draw – thank you.

Sebastian, great review of Map of The Heart Red Heart V.3. I like the design and unique presentation of their bottles. This fragrance also has unique note combinations with that juicy red apple, pink peppercorn, tuberose, incense, and musk to name a few. I would love the opportunity to win this. I am from the USA.

  • IvanVelikov says:

Before sharing my thoughts about Red Heart v. 3 , and Sebastian review , i have to say bottle design is astonishing . One of the best looking bottles i have ever seen.

Spicy , sweet fruity floral fragrance with juicy red apple, musk , jasmine and sandalwood. Sounds really good and cozy.

Thank you Sebastian fir the review, and Map of Heart for the opportunity .

  • This perfume reminds me of the fruit offered by the witch to Snow White, with her red color, innocent at the beginning and seductive at the end. The temptation to take a bite of the apple is strong. All very beautiful and original

  • When I was smelling it some time ago, I didn’t notice musk. I would like to test it once again, from my own bottle.
    I live in Poland.

  • Beautiful bottle! I love unique and pretty perfume bottles, and this one looks so special. I like how Sebastian describe the scent itself, it sounds very wonderfully. Thank you for the chance. I live in the EU.

  • First of all what an interesting looking bottle! I liked how Sebastian described the mid as “really really tasty.” Also enjoyed Sebastian sharing his childhood experience eating feijoia with his father, paints a vivid scene for me. Would love to try out this brand and the Heat Red Heart V.3 in particular. Regards from Boston USA.

What I loved about Sebastians review is how unique the notes are. I’m intrigued. I’m from the US and would love a chance to win this.

  • Just like some other subscribers mentioned heart shaped bottle is unique , and
good looking at the same time. I do like good looking bottles , BUT what’s inside is way more important to me. As we all know there are a lot of fragrance brands with unique bottles and high prices, but cheap synthetic smells.
Pretty sure White Heart v.3 will deliver – Sebastian review is top notch. Red apples i love cooking with, and I also love note. Pastry Chef in the house.
V.3 description reminded me of me eating Hawaiian Guava Cake , and drinking freshly squeezed red apple juice .
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign.

  • Great review from Sebastian. Very interesting combination of notes. The bottle is so realistic!
    Thank you from EU

  • Map of the Heart giveaway? Really nice .
I do have the pleasure of having one and 1/2 , and smelled all Map Of The Heart fragrances.
Purple Heart V 5 I have split with my sister in law, and White Heart V 7 90ml bottle I’m happy to own.
Michelyn please ask Sarah and Jeffrey next time when you bump into them , why Map Of The Heart fragrances are available all over EU , but not back home. I have seen them in Germany and Spain. In Barcelona is where I bought the two I have mentioned .
V 3 is exactly what Sebastian said plus white wine, at least I smell white wine.
    Top opportunity , thanks

  • Sebastian review of map of the heart v3 was excellent as he describes the notes in way I got completely interested. Tuberose and wet red apples, fruity heart notes, incense and cinnamon, sandalwood, patchouli and musc. The bottle is very unique. Thank you for the draw. I live in CA, USA.

  • Excellent review by Sebastian and I loved when he mentioned the fruity part of this is like apples! The bottle is amazing and it’s really unique! If Sebastian loves it, I know that I will too. Thanks for the giveaway and I am in the US!

  • I’ve seen this line before of course through this website. I love the bottle! Love apples for the fall! Sounds perfect. I didn’t know the other name for guavas. I had some growing in my neighborhood growing up and couldn’t get enough of them. We had the small bush type variety. Never heard of guava in fragrance before. Sebastian has me with the vanilla and cinnamon. Beautiful presentation, don’t ask me why but I thought of the game “Operation” when I saw the presentation. Oh, I’d love to try this one. USA

  • Finished watching the review. Interesting looking bottle. Sounds like a nice fragrance. The perfumer is one of Sebastian’s favorite you can say. I’d like to try it out. Thanks, Ca
