Manos Gerakinis SELENE (pronounced Se-lee-nee) is the newest fragrance from the first Greek luxury/niche perfume house. SELENE is named for the Greek mythological figure, the Ancient Greek Goddess of the moon. I was excited to learn that Christina Koutsoudaki, the Greek-born Senior Perfumer/Head of Fragrance Creation for VIORYL S.A. and Council Member at the British Society of Perfumers, (who I met at the World Perfumers Congress in 2022)  worked in collaboration with Manos Gerakinis. I asked Manos for his inspiration.-Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

SELENE is a very special fragrance to me as it captures the essence of Athens, Greece. Strolling around the city, nature becomes the greatest perfumer as neroli blends in the air with night jasmine. This magical scent is artistically captured and enhanced further by Christina Koutsoudaki.”- Manos Gerakinis

Working with Manos on SELENE, was a real pleasure. Our common heritage made it easy for me to relate to the images and scents that he wanted to capture with his new fragrance. The scent of orange blossom is so unique and evocative, and will always carry my childhood memories.”- Christina Koutsoudaki

Manos Gerekinis is a brand that I have neglected for the longest but it stops now. Selene does sound like a great fragrance, very summery. I do agree with orange blossom evoking childhood feelings as I recently was in Greece and there are orange blossoms everywhere. I do like that Steven and Michelyn both mentioned this doesn’t smell like anything else, something I always appreciate. Cheers from NJ, USA.

Never heard of this brand so thanks for bringing it to my attention. I love the notes of Grapefruit, Bergamot and Orange Blossom they are in various fragrances of mine. Then add Cedar and Sandalwood plus Steve saying he smells it’s uniqueness and I am very intrigued…Greetings from California, USA.

I want to relive the feeling of a Greek summer where the night blooming jasmine from the neighboring trees and gardens was felt, a delicious praline note that evokes the sweet delights that are enjoyed together with a sensual musky cloud that evokes an ideal Athenian summer, warm and airy.

  • Athanasios Papadas says:

Grapefruit and praline are amongst my favourite notes! Very intrigued by this perfume’s uniqueness that Steven mentioned.
Love the name (as well as the incorporation of the Greek letter “lamda”)!
Even if I do not win, I’m truly looking forward to at least sampling SEΛENE once I can get my hands on it.
I reside in the EU (Greece).

  • Selene sounds fabulous, with its zesty grapefruit opening, followed by luscious, natural and almost sweet smelling trio of orange blossom-violet-jasmine and then closing with clean sandalwood. Sounds happy and summery, as well as timeless and elegant at the same time.

Hello from Florida, and thank you to Steven for the review!

The moon is always a worthy inspiration — Selene sounds like a beautiful rendition of orange blossom, and I’d love to give it a try.

  • The variaty of Citrus in the opening sounds really pleasent and that spaekes my interest. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • Odudu Jacob says:

I’m interested in discovering scents this house. How Steven disscribed the wearing experience of Selene with detail really sparked my interest. I like that he mentioned the originality of the scents – quality hard to come by in recent popular releases.

  • Steven’s description of a quirky unique scent/ personality really grabs my attention. The smell of white florals paired with grapefruit sounds amazing. And my name means moon goddess 🙂 Would love to try. In US

  • Manos Gerakinis’ SELENE seems to draw its inspiration from the enchanting essence of Athens. With notes like neroli and night jasmine, it promises to capture the magic of the city. Collaboration between Manos Gerakinis and Christina Koutsoudaki, a council member at the British Society of Perfumers, makes it even more intriguing. Kudos to the blend of Calabrian Bergamot, Orange Blossom, and more in this fragrance! What sparks me the most about Steven’s review is that it is so zesty but not sour in the opening. And the sweetness of the orange flower with clean notes of violets, as Steven mentions, sounds like an unusual combination to me.

  • I get so excited when I discover a new fragrance’s house and if you have the chance to watch a review by Steve from Redolessence “Manos Gerakinis SELENE” that’s a plus. The bottle looks gorgeous and I bet the liquid is just majestic.

  • Steve Fernandez says:

  • So cool that Greece has a niche fragrance house. I’d love to try a fragrance that captures the spirit of Athens. I love that it’s original, celestial, and quirky. Those notes look good. Always nice to hear a fragrance has a good personality. That it smells like nothing in Steve’s collection that is saying something as his collection is huge. Thanks for the pronunciation help. This sounds fantastic. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • Antonella Raffone says:

I am very intrigued by this new release from Manos because I love citrus, orange blossom and sandalwood.
I think it could really be a crush for me such as Methexis which I own and adore!

  • perusegenesis says:

I would like to try a perfume that smells like Athens so much, already on my radar! ❤️ Steven’s description of the opening of the fragrance made my mouth water, it really seems like it has a quirky personality to it, like he said. I’m currently locating in Romania, Europe.

  • I leave in Athens, so I’m so curious to smell a perfume which captures the essence of Athens, especially the smell of the jasmin , in a walk in the city by night!

  • A perfume that is like no other, very original at this time in the world of perfumes. From the description it seems seductive and certainly successful.

  • Devonte Williams says:

The grapefruit has me very curious. Big fan of grapefruit scents so it’d be awesome to see how this one is worked out! Oklahoma

  • Patricia R. says:

I like that Steven repeatedly stressed the originality of this scent at the initial stages. I’m really intrigued. I find there is not enough Moon inspired perfumes out there, so it’s good they came out wit this concept. I live in the EU.

  • Steven always offers such a good review with the grapefruit opening and unique scent, I too would love to try this scent. Strong with neroli and night jasmine it sounds like a dream in Greece. In maryland.

  • What a lovely citrus forward fragrance, It sounds very Greek from the list of notes. I can imagine strolling along a beach in Santorini at night enjoying the full moon. The indolic jasmine sambac and the ambergris and musk makes me think this is a very romantic fragrance. I’ve tried a few of Manos Gerakinis fragrances before and he is very talented. I’m in the US.

  • Manos Gerakinis is surely an amazing perfume artist.
I love that its inspired by Athens, just amazing.
I love the originality, the opening of grapefruit and naturality of this amazing fragrance. This naturally sweet fragrance just got all my attention.

  • What sparked my interest based on Steven’s video is how he remarked the fragrance smells unique and like nothing he smelled before. Thank you for the opportunity. From New York, USA.

  • I live in Greece and I am always interested in Greek creators in perfumery, especially niche. Steven is exceptional and I want to check out his recommendations

  • Michele Miller says:

I have never tried any Manos Gerakinis fragrances! I’ve been interested n the brand and I absolutely love the notes in the fragrance.

  • Reading Manos Gerakinis’s introduction to SELENE makes me want to visit Athens and enjoy the smell of orange blossom wafting through the air. Christina Koutsoudaki enhanced that note in an interesting way, adding in a generous does of tangy grapefruit. Steven mentioned that zesty citrus opening is to die for, which is strong praise, and it means SELENE “doesn’t smell like anything else.” He also highlighted how natural the orange blossom is here. Sounds like a terrifically fresh citrus-floral.

    I’m in the USA.

  • I’ve never heard of this house but from the mid notes down I can tell this would be a unique addition. Steven was definitely the right reviewer to entrust this to. He is opened minded and doesn’t just see the short an narrow in his analysis. Others may not have done it justice and it’s a breath of fresh air from all the hype fads flooding Youtube. Interested in the twist of Greek perfumery. I would like to win the giveaway…..Jacksonville, NC USA

  • Januarililjan says:

I love the notes present in this one. I love greek summer, I am actually in Greece right now. Hope I can win. I live in EU.

  • wallygator88 says:

THanks for the great review Steven.

I think the key for this fragrance is the shared culture between Manos Gerakinis and Christina Koutsoudaki.

I’m really enjoying the combination of grapefruit and orange blossom, one that I might have to borrow. Adding jasmine to open up the fragrance and tying it down with sandalwood and musk, makes it such a ‘celestial’ and uplifting fragrance.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Brooke Davis says:
