“The only real luxury is time, make yours memorable.”- Manos Gerakinis

Founded ten years ago, Manos Gerakinis Parfums is the first niche luxury Greek Perfume House. The perfumes are olfactive stories that fuel the imagination, feed the soul, and caress the senses, floating effortlessly between the East and the West, between simplicity and opulent extravagance, using the most intricate craftsmanship to deliver a fresh contemporary result in their approach to the timeless art of perfumery. All these elements are artistically blended together with the aesthetic sensibility of the founder and creative director, Manos Gerakinis.

Manos’s creative journey has its roots firmly grounded in the rich kaleidoscope of aromas of his childhood back in Kavala Greece. From the heady scent of roses and saffron to the warmth of tobacco and honey, these early experiences laid the foundation for a lifelong fascination with fragrance. A man of eclectic tastes and a keen eye for detail, Manos refined his appreciation for the finer things in life during his decade-long career in London’s luxury sector. Returning to Greece, Manos sought a new means of self-expression – and so a bespoke fragrance, initially intended just for his own pleasure, ignited a passion that led to the birth of Manos Gerakinis Parfums.

I have done nothing all summer but wait for myself to be myself again.” Georgia O’Keeffe

I received Manos Gerakinis Parfums Imperial Malt back in June, fell in love head-over-heels, and tucked it away like a treasured secret, waiting for the perfect moment to savor its magic. Now, as autumn begins to paint the world in hues of amber and gold, I prepared myself to consume the essence of this magnificent temptation that will perfectly complement the cozy nights ahead. Autumn, my favorite season – the time of fresh starts, of back-to-life resolutions, of early dusk, the crisp air whispering promises of cozy nights curled up under soft blankets, on your favorite leather armchair, a glass of Talisker whisky in hand, crackling woods burning in the fireplace.

Best autumn perfumes

Manos Gerakinis Parfums Imperial Malt is the feeling of autumn – sublimated in a rich golden potion. A warm and deeply gratifying mixture of boozy elements and gourmand facets, painted on the backdrop of a smoky-woody-dark ambiance. Just imagine: ripe fruits, smoked coconuts, prunes steeped in liquor, crushed rich dark chocolate, the earthy delight of patchouli, the sensual touch of leather, and the delicious crunch of brown sugar. All to be savored next to the best (old) whiskey (old) money can buy.

The sun’s last rays brush your lips with a nostalgic golden honeyed warmth, reminiscent of the distant sea breeze and the ghost of summer past. A waft of sweet and sensual vanilla, like a veil of golden lace, dances and insidiously swirls on top of your skin, gathering momentum and heating up. Soon after, the plot thickens – storm clouds gather in the misty veil of the low-hanging autumn sky, the fog filled with burning wood smell – an elven-shade-of-ethereal that seems to emanate from the forests of Lothlorien. The earthy delights unfold, bite, and tease – a subtle trail of leather-brimmed patchouli – posh, proper, and demure makes a perfect pair to the shadowy vetiver, and together, they keep the sweetness balanced and the entire construction as enveloping and comforting as one can imagine. Above all, swirling and undulating like mysterious tendrils, are wisps of smoke – of gold leaves burning, all infused with the ripe juicy delights of the autumn orchard, all to be slowly consumed by fire. Wearing it feels like a heat wave that surges through, scattering and slowly diffusing the essence of autumn throughout your body, down to your tingling fingertips. It’s the scent of a slow-burning fire crackling nearby, calming your reptilian brain, all safe in your cave – leaving you languid, half-dreaming, and at peace. If it would have a sound, this is how I imagine the purr of a cat would be – a lazy orange kitten, drawing closer to the fireplace, with its whiskers nearly singed by the flames, oblivious to the chill in the air outside.

Decadent comfort, cozy warmth, and hedonistic pleasure – Manos Gerakinis Parfums Imperial Malt is uncomplicated yet oh-so-complex. I am smitten. I am purring.

  • This review got me sooo curious! The idea of a perfume that smells like autumn in a bottle is just too tempting. I love the warm, cozy vibes Nicoleta mentioned, sounds perfect for the season!

  • The idea of a scent that feels like a cozy night by the fire with a glass of whisky is too tempting to pass up. Nicoleta really painted a picture here, and now I’m curious to see if the perfume lives up to it. Ioanna Tanionou sounds like a genius too. EU

  • Sounds like an amazing fragrance just spray it, close your eyes & let the aroma take you on a journey.

  • The fragrance is not linear it changes on the skin, leaving a vanillic woodiness with hints of earthy patchouli, dry vetiver, and firewood, evoking a cozy fireplace setting. This personally really sparks my interest. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • OMG there’s not a note in this I don’t love. Whiskey, plum, chocolate and leather, just wow. This fragrance sounds as transportive as described, especially smoked coconut. This is a must have…

  • The review makes me hungry and I can’t WAIT for autumn to start. Will try to source a sample of this, because it sounds like it’s perfect for the cooler, crispy weather. Cheers from the US.

  • I am in the US. Very curious to try the concept of Autumn in the Bottle – and I treating to see how the author’s perception of autumn translates into fragrance

  • Like Nicoleta, I am eager to break out the warm and cozy scents. I love a good boozy fragrance on a cool autumn night, and Imperial Malt seems to fit the bill perfectly. I am quite curious about the coconut note as I am not sure if I have experienced it mixed with both booze and leather before. Sounds like a wonderfully delicious and cozy combo. Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

  • I love a great patchouli and I really love Plum in a fragrance. I was just talking with a friend about how folks either have a lot of time and no money or no time and some money. We both agreed to have time and a little money is best. At least you can create a life you love with it. This sounds like a beautiful fragrance. I am in California.

  • The fire in the fireplace and the purring of the cat, a soothing image that takes me back to childhood memories. This brand is waiting to be discovered and Imperial Malt is a perfume I would like to have.

  • Even though we are still enjoying some late summer warmth where I am, Nicoleta’s review really made me long for the crispy fresh weather that autumn brings, crushed leaves under your foot and the smell of earth and rain in the nostrils, only to be warmed and comforted by the richness of dried fruit, chocolate and quality whiskey in front of the fireplace, in some cozy wooden cabin. I find autumn themed perfumes to be the coziest, in an introspective and melancholy way, and Imperial Malt seems to confirm just that.

Not a gourmand, just plain gorgeous. This has all of the rich characteristics to make a memorable scent. I agree time is the only luxury we have, make use of it and make it memorable. Love the concept and the inspiration behind this composition. Would love to own, from Jacksonville, NC.

  • The notes for Imperial Malt sound delicious and perfect for Autumn, which is also my favorite season. When it was compared to a cat purring by a fireplace, I knew I needed this fragrance. I am in the US.

  • Malt and whiskey always sound good to me, especially as a scent 🙂 This might be a warm and boozy gourmand. Never tried the perfumes of this interesting house from my neighbour country Greece. Would be happy to win this. From EU.

  • This sounds like such a perfect fall fragrance for cozy nights in front of the fire! I am in the USA

  • I don´t need to be convinced more – the languid purr of a cat and the impending autumn, sea breeze, patchouli, storm clouds, autumn clouds, wisps of smoke – they are all embody the favourite and much expected season.

I adored this perfume from its very inception as I was priviledged to be a friendly evaluator for this perfume plus a couple of others. Imperial Malt had me from the very begining and like a fine single malt it has matured with age. The final version afire with all the aspects mentioned here by the erudite Ms Tomsa. I am so happy to see it here and to know that along with my dear friend , Manos, I played a part in its emergence. thank you

  • Yes, even though it’s currently hazy, hot and humid outside, the beginning of September brings a laser like focus on caramel apples, pumpkin spice, cashmere and all things fall. Nicoleta’s review has certainly gotten me in the mood for cool weather perfume. Imperial Malt is a boozy gourmand with some smoke, dark chocolate and a really interesting malt whiskey note. MD, USA.

  • I adore a peaty scotch, savored, so I was immediately intrigued by the title of this review. Tanionou’s interpretation of a boozy dram is indeed perfect for autumn, with rich fruit, smoke, and bitter-earthy elements. It sounds like Imperial Malt captures some of the magic of an Islay scotch, warming in the hand, with whiffs of sea breeze and burning wood alongside the sweet, boozy heat. I’d love to try this and wear it frequently in crisp weather.

    I’m in the USA.

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Nicoleta’s review of Manos Gerakinis Imperial Malt. Ioanna Tanionou – a senior perfumer who masterfully blends scientific precision with an artist’s soul. It sounds like she created a warm cozy boozy and gourmand masterpiece that will be perfect for the upcoming fall and winter seasons. I am from the USA.

  • Very fit into that time of the year here in Northern Emisphere, Nicoleta’s words are printed in my mind.

“The sun’s last rays brush your lips with a nostalgic golden honeyed warmth, reminiscent of the distant sea breeze and the ghost of summer past”. I really struggle these days with boozy notes, but I would love a good ole malt whiskey fragrance in my wardrobe.

Thank you for the chance, I live in EU

I often experience moments of melancholy in the autumn season, then dread of winter. But Nicoleta’s gorgeous review of Imperial Malt made me think just how lovely and golden the season can be. The fruit notes of an autumn orchard, along with the vetiver, leather and firewood, certainly contribute to a fragrance that needs to be savored, much like a fine whiskey.
    I live in the USA.

  • Hope I’m not too late to enter. This sounds amazing for the cool weather. I need to be wrapped in its embrace. From USA.

  • Here in Dallas, TX patiently waiting for fall weather and to start wearing my favorite scents. Imperial Malt sure sounds like something to love. The review was great! Autumn is my favorite season and the line, “slowly diffusing the essence of autumn throughout your body, down to your tingling fingertips” gets me excited for this one.
