How we choose to delight our senses is purely our choice. Ever since the edible ingredients made their way into our fragrances, thanks to Olivier Cresp and Yves de Chiris and their 1992 gourmand masterpiece Thierry Mugler Angel, we can indulge our taste buds without taking a single bite out of a cake. I find it even more satisfactory at times, simply because the time it takes to devour a piece of chocolate Valrhona or caramel parfait is inevitably shorter than indulging in a fragrance that smells like it for hours.

Maison Tahite Vanexstasy was inspired by an enchanting trip to Jaipur, the city in Rajasthan, immersed in the millennia-old scents of vanilla absolute and the precious sensuality of sandalwood. A composition is rich in natural and precious ingredients. Jaipur and its buildings are predominantly rose-colored, and it is often referred to as the “pink city”, surrounded by fertile alluvial plains to the east and garnet deposits in the south. It was painted pink under the rule of Sawai Ram Singh, traditionally a color associated with hospitality, for the grand welcome of Edward, Prince of Wales.
VaneXstasy is exactly like a bite of a chocolate parfait, covered in caramel sauce and topped with whipped coconut cream. It’s a perfect dessert to dig into as you sit on the terrace, overlooking the beautiful pink-colored sunset of the city, known for its precious jewelry, delicious cuisine, and handcrafted rich textiles.

Woven around the second most expensive ingredient in the world, vanilla, hence the name, Maison Tahite VaneXstasy highlights the playfulness of its sweetness without any hints of darkness, or spiciness This is a flirtatious encounter with zero strings attached. It is lighthearted, mischievous, and relatable and doesn’t call for a special occasion or approach. As a vast vanilla lover, I have numerous takes on it, from ultra-creamy and floral to dark and smoky. Always a courageous adventurer into different interpretations of vanilla, I was pleasantly surprised to find VaneXstasy effortlessly filling a particular gap; it feels almost fruity, hence lacking any suggestion of fruit accord in the notes. There is a berry-like tartness in the fragrance’s heart, and I picture a drizzle of raspberry syrup, like drops of the beautiful garnet Jaipur is known for. As the scent develops, it doesn’t particularly change much but there is a balsamic richness that starts to peek through, warm and sensual, adding depth to the composition.

VaneXstasy is pure hedonism, and it’s worth every bite. There is a light mousse texture to the composition, and even though the ingredients are all quite heavy and rich, Lucien Ferrero manages to blend this so that your palette does not get overwhelmed. Each element in this perfume is layered upon as you would make a perfectly fluffy parfait, lusciously creamy, with deep vanilla flavor, with sandalwood and cedarwood sprinkled on top. I invite you to dig in and enjoy every last bite, spritz.
Notes: Coconut milk, Caramel accord, Vanilla absolute, Balsam, Sandalwood, Cedarwood
