Kajal Perfumes Jihan Review (Valerie Garnuch-Mentzel) + Soul Blossoming Giveaway.

Kajal JIhan

Kajal Perfumes Jihan Image by Karl.

Kajal Perfumes has been a brand on my “must try list” for some time. Primarily because of the striking presentation and forthright approach to creating bold perfumes with clear olfactory messages. The Warde Collection is inspired by florals and as such Jihan is a wood/floral/spicy composition. Jihan can be translated as ‘The Universe’ and one certainly experiences this perfume as expansive in nature. Moe Khalaf {Founder and Kajal Creative Officer) enlisted the talents of perfumer Valerie Garnuch-Mentzel (Drom) to create an intensely rich floral with a strong amber base to it.

Kajal Perfumes Jihan is a sojourn away from my typical go to scent profiles and a new experience for me. I have always found rose to be a tricky note to wear when it is prominent and there are few in my collection that I have as a staple perfume. Kajal Jihan is an evening wear / special occasion scent for me. It has a specific dark element running throughout, namely the saffron. This comes across immediately and gives a strong spiciness which is offset with the fruity apple blossom in the opening. The saffron kick is front and center and harmonizes well with the clove and patchouli as the fragrance transitions. The rose here is lush and jam like making Jihan extremely velvety and in combination with the vanilla and musk (synthetic) in the base produces a smooth and sweet aroma.

As the hours pass Kajal Jihan transforms into a scent heavy with woods and on my skin the saffron (prevalent throughout), adds a soft suede touch as it mingles with the creamy aspects of sandalwood; further enhanced with musk, patchouli and the oud accord. To my nose this accord comes off similar to Initio Oud For Greatness and keeps Kajal Perfumes Jihan in the more accessible realm as opposed to the more funky aspects of certain strains of agarwood. This makes the wearing more pleasing to those who find oud a difficult note to carry.

The Middle-Eastern influence is clear in Kajal Perfumes Jihan, as whilst it is incredibly potent it also has a dusty and warm feel to it. The signature beauty of the composition is the saffron which is used in traditional dishes and represents the soul of the scent. What makes Jihan very appealing is that it has no rough edges, transitions smoothly and performs outstandingly. It is unisex and whilst the spice/wood combination may be more apparent on my skin, I can imagine the intense florals and sweeter aspects of the fragrance will be to the fore on floral and  rose perfume aficionados.

Notes: Saffron, apple blossom, clove, magnolia, rose, patchouli, sandalwood, musk, vanilla, oud accord.

  • I really like the bottles of this house, and all the caps are very eye catchy. Please count me in for this draw. I am in EU. Thanks

I like Kajal bottles and I need somthing for special ocasion. I like to win it

  • Kajal Perfumes are well known for their stunning bottles and caps . The ward collections is all about Florals. Jihan notes are very interesting. I do have Joorie which is from the ward collection it’s a wonderful Rose scent. Thank you for this Chance would love to win Jihan . USA

  • Jihan is the Arabic name given to the beautiful purple crocus flower. I love this scent profile! It has that middle eastern mysterious vibe with saffron being the dominant player.
My favorite perfume by the brand is the masterpiece Sawlaj
    From France

  • The absolutely beautiful notes of this fragrance and how perfectly they are composed really strikes me about Kajal Perfumes Jihan. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU. I never tried any fragrances by Kajal but if I’d had to chose my favorite it would probably be Jihan because I love vanilla and blossom notes.

  • I like Kajal alot. My favorite is Lamar. The review on Jihan was very informative and got me thinking about that rose saffron woody combo.. and yes, as the reviewer said, rose can be tricky.. but adding saffron offsets the floral aspect of it… now it’s spicy rose which is super nice.. the darkness described is also an excellent point that made me think of POAL and other darker rose scents. Would love to try it..

  • Rose, rose, rose. Oh, how I love thee. Kajal Jihan sonds like a fragrance that would fit perfectly within my collection. I love the sound of the jammy rose working in tandem with the spicy and suede-like facets of saffron to create a lush and velvety floral experience. Reading from NC, USA.

  • Interesting that Karl notes that Jihan is a ‘special occasion’ perfume for him because I also gravitate towards jammy roses for special occasions. Well… for me, I wear my special occasion perfumes when I’m going out, and I’m equally likely to wear them after a long day of work when I just want to wind down and enjoy! With notes of saffron and rose and lots of other embellishments, Jihan by Kajal sounds like an indulgence that’s right up my alley. This would be my first exposure to the brand and it sounds like a great place to start! I’m in the US, thank you for the draw.

  • I am a lover of patchouli, sandalwood and roses. Intrigued by this. It would be my first exposure to this house. NY, USA

  • Kajal Perfumes Jihan is a jammy rose oud composition where saffrom adds a dark theme to it. It is most appropriate for evening wear due to its formal tones. I am in US.

  • I’ve had the opportunity to try Lamar and I liked it a lot. Faris is also on my list to try. Jihan is something I would love trying as the spice and woods or rose coming through sounds nice. I’m
    in TN.

  • I absolutely love Kajal’s fragrances. They are all so unique and absolutely stunning bottle designs. I think Lamar is my current favorite. I would like to enter the giveaway. Houston Texas

  • Big fan of kajal Lamar but never tried jihan.
I love rose and saffron and would like an oud that isn’t to oudy
    USA

  • The thing that strikes me about Kajal Perfumes is the spiciness and dark saffron element mixed with floral notes. This fragrance sounds very unique in it’s notes compared to anything I’ve personally heard of before. I’ve haven’t had the chance to sample or smell any of this brand’s perfumes so its hard for me to pick a single fragrance as a favorite. From Tx, USA.

  • I love rose perfumes and also think it’s a note hard to blend with other notes.
What sparked my interest in Jihan is the part “The rose here is lush and jam like making Jihan extremely velvety and in combination with the vanilla and musk (synthetic) in the base produces a smooth and sweet aroma.”
My favorite from the brand is Lamar.
    Hugs from Croatia, EU. ❤️

  • Firstly, I would like to express my respect to Moe, a wonderful person and a very talented creative director, leading the brand in the right direction. The combination of rose, oud and carnation struck me the most in the description of Jihan, which probably gives an unforgettable spicy tint to the composition, which is smoothed out by a delicate shade of apple blossom. The composition must be very balanced and amazing. I have tried some by Kajal, but my favorite is Lamar with pineapple and rose. Very beautiful and bright composition. And I like how great the longevity of all the fragrances of the brand.
    Best regards from Belgium

  • katyakotovskaya says:

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet…” or not? It looks like Jihan proves Shakespeare wrong! I am so intrigued by this creation’s spicy and woody notes, and super curious to see how rose and saffron complement each other. I am from EU. That would be my first introduction to the house.

  • I love how Kajal’s have a distinct personality for each of their perfumes. The bottles are also a work of art. I personally love Lamar, the pineapple note is my favorite, and I really want to try Jihan. Thank for this opportunity!

The smooth transition from a sweet floral fragrance into a deep woods with saffron sounds wonderful. I like Kajal Homme I and II. New Jersey, USA

  • As always Mr. Topham makes a great review of the fragrance, I can almost feel how It smells Only reading his words. Jihan sounds great for me. This “oud for greatness” vibe sounds really good.
My Favourite perfume from Kajal is Dahab, as I LOVE Fruity and sweet accords and I write from Galicia in Spain. BEST regards to all!!

  • Thanks for the review Karl! I have not tried any from this brand yet, but this one does sound intriguing. Saffron is always a great note. I’m enjoy a good mix of floral and fruit notes. I agree, these bottles are attractive! Thank you from Canada.

  • I have never smelled any fragrances from Kajal, but have always heard wonderful things! I am intrigued to smell the spicy/floral/woody blend of Jihan – especially the saffron notes which greatly appeals to me. Thank you for such a giveaway! Regards from Canada

  • I was surprised to see that a fragrance writer like Karl still had this on his ‘must try’ list. I don’t feel so bad that I haven’t tried it either. Love Karl’s photo of Jihan, beautiful backdrop. This fragrance sounds lovely. Nice to know it is smooth. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • Love the pictures Karl took of the bottle and the bottle caps!

I live in Portugal. I own several saffron-centric perfumes, I’d love to add Jihan to my collection

  • I do love spice in perfumery. It adds, for me, interest to the scent and definitely sillage. Jihan sounds unisexy with its rose, saffron and oud notes. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff. Mich USA

  • ScentedClown says:

To state the obvious I very much love the detail on the cap with the enamelling , im based in the uk and my fave form the brand is Sawlaj

  • I love perfumes that have saffron, I find them to be exotic, unusual, yet very comforting. Paired with the rose, another very classic, if not THE most classic note of all perfumery, yet at the same time very oriental (I can’t not associate the rose with Turkish, Iranian or Bulgarian roses, rosewater and oils), it can only merge into a timeless, enticing and boundary-breaking scent.
I have not had the chance to smell anything from Kajal yet.
I’m commenting from the EU. Thanks a lot!

  • The blossom note is what I enjoy about this fragrance. Haven’t gotten my nose on any from the house, so I don’t have a favorite, and would love to be able to try this. I’m in California.

  • Woods, saffron, oud in Kajal Perfumes Jihan sound lovely to me. I like oud, earthy, incense scents and Middle Eastern perfumes certainly fit the bill. Karl talks about it being strong but smooth, and that is very appealing indeed. Unfortunately don’t have a favorite as Kajal is still on my “must try list”. Thanks for the review and a generous draw. From continental USA.

  • Karl! Bravo!!! ❤️❤️❤️ What a wonderful & Excellent description of Jihan! That jammy rose with the saffron, yes! It’s so smooth and complex! The bottle! Grand! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • wandering_nose says:

I like how Karl takes us on a scented journey while sharing his thoughts and reflections on every stage of the fragrance. Jihan sounds truly exquisite. I love my rose jammy, my oud on the non-barnyard side and I am well partial to a good saffron perfume. The florals, the woodiness from patchouli and sandalwood make my soul crave some Middle Eastern adventures accompanied by this beauty. My favorite Kajal has been Lamar, however I feel Jihan would be a runner-up. Thank you from the EU

  • Kajal always puts such attention to detail in its packaging. The bottle is lovely and the caps are a work of art. So pretty top look at it and it adds to the whole experience. Jihan sounds exceptionally well blended with smooth transitions and no rough edges. The list of notes is representative of Middle Eastern perfumery. I adore the inclusion of saffron and magnolia in the composition. I’ve never tried any Kajal fragrances before. MD, USA.

  • Mix of saffron, flowers and ambery base sounds intriguing. Soft suede and velvety notes – I definitely need to sample this one. I really like Sawlaj from this brand. I live in France, EU

  • Karl is right that floral and rose perfume aficionados will likely enjoy Kajal Jihan. Although it sounds like rose and saffron are the most prominent notes, they sound beautifully blended. I am glad to read that Karl found the rose lush and jammy. Jihan sounds like a luxurious dark rose fragrance that would be perfect for nights out. I love Middle Eastern fragrances and I am sure I would greatly enjoy this one. I have to admit that I have not tested any Kajal fragrances yet, but I have really wanted to try Warde and Kajal EDP; however, I am now adding Jihan to that list! Thank you, Karl, for the great review, and thank you to Kajal for the giveaway. I am located in the USA.

  • I like that Kajal Jihan has a specific dark element running throughout what makes it an evening wear / special occasion scent. As I’m not a fan of oud, I appreciate Jihan being more pleasent to wear than most oud based scents. And the notes… Apple blossom, clove, magnolia, rose, patchouli… Mmmmm….
I loved Yasmina by Kajal, but would be happy to try others as well.

  • Nice review Karl! Saffron, as spanish, is part of my world since I was a kid… always had at home the little pot with the amazing pistiles of the flower… not only for paellas… my mom used it a lot. As you, rose was always difficult to wear for me, even loving the smell direct from the flowers, the translation into perfumes was not my kind of thing (although I fall in love with Lustre form Hiram Green). I like the opening of saffron/apple-blossom combination and the heart with the clove and rose addition. The smooth and sweet base with vanilla sandalwood seems to give body to the fragrance and round it off perfectly with an accessible oud. Great work. I live in Spain, EU. Kajal is my preferred with the sour and mouthwatering granny smith apple opening.

  • I have not tried anything from Kajal, but I like that saffron is the main ingredient here. I feel like I do not have much experience with this particular note and I am really curious on how it acts when is the main character. Thank you for the draw and for the nice review. EU

  • Every thing about Jihan appeals to me from the florals, that is is jammy rose to the wearable oud.
I own Lamar unbelievably amazing and FARIS which I bought after I read the reviews here on Cafleurebon.
    USA

  • What a fancy bottle! And the notes are so interesting, saffron, clove and patchouli. I can’t even imagine how this combination is. And all mingle in sandalwood, musk and oud. Please count me in for the draw.
    Hugs from EU

  • OMG, Kajal is one my favorite niche brands out there, being Lamar my favorite one yet so far.
I think that Jihan is surely a true gem created by the brand. I love that it has the saffron note, the patchouli and the spiceness that makes it more interesting. I also love that it is very potent but has a warm that makes it more wearable.
    Hope I win this one.

  • FragranceIsMe says:

My wife and I are fans of Kajal. We currently own Homme 1 & 2, Dahab, Faris, Almaz, Lamar, Joorie, and Fiddah. My favorite depends on which day of the week it is 🙂 They are all high quality fragrances with a beautiful presentation. Jihan sounds wonderful and is a fragrance my wife would enjoy…the notes are wonderful with this one. USA

  • The bottle design is really amazing and j really like the dark and special aspects of the fragrance. My favorite from the house is Kajal Homme ii. I live in Greece, EU.

  • I also find rose to be a tricky note to wear and most of the rose-centric perfumes I’ve sampled get infrequent, if any wear. Jihan sounds like a thoughtful blend that utilizes a jammy rose note, but doesn’t allow it to overwhelm the composition, and pays equal attention to the woody, spiced base. The saffron note sounds particularly well done; Karl pointed out it’s persistent throughout the drydown.

I’m in the USA. I haven’t tried any Kajal Perfumes fragrances, but this one sounds like a great place to start. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • foreverscents says:

I haven’t tried anything from Kajal, but I have heard they are extremely well-blended and bold. Jihan, with its rose, saffron, and clove notes, sounds lush and velvety. I like that Jihan has no rough edges. It sounds very smooth and well-composed.
    I live in the USA.

  • Bryant Worley says:

I have been wanting to try Jihan for a while now, as I’ve heard good things about it. And the fact that its a woody/floral/spicy makes it more desirable. The perfect storm of scent, especially with the saffron. I WANT IT!

I’ve only tried Lamar and Dahab from the brand, and my fave is Lamar.

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • Regis Monkton says:

I’ve been wanting to try something from this company for years now, but I haven’t had a chance yet. I’m very interested to try this fragrance because of its notes listing: I’m fond of a lot of them, especially cloves. Karl’s review of this fragrance made it seem very enticing to me, e.g. when he mentions that the saffron gives a “darkness” to it; when he mentions the opening, and when he mentions the cloves with the patchouli (they are two of my favorite ingredients in perfumery). I truly hope to win this one. I live in the U.S.A.

  • Michael Prince says:

What interests me about Kajal Perfumes Jihan is how I love the house of Kajal Perfumes with their spicy oriental stylings that usually incorporate Saffron, Clove, and Rose. Jihan also incorporates a nice wearable oud, sandalwood, and vanilla in the base which sounds really inviting. My favorite fragrance from Kajal Perfumes is Fiddah. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • Loooove suede and spicy/woody fragrances. This sounds beautiful. Im in WA, USA. I havent tried this house yet, or even heard of it, thanks for putting them in my radar!

  • Thanks for the review Karl.

I’ve been curious about this brand for a long time, especially because of my love for Middle Eastern scent profiles and brands.

The most interesting thing abut this fragrance, is the use of clove – something that I have not seen in this style of perfume. I also appreciate that this fragrance has a warm and dusty feel to it.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Kajal is a perfume house that I have had my eyes on for a minute at this point. The bottles intrigue me, especially those caps, which look very detailed and hefty. The notes of this sound absolutely wonderful, and I believe it would work wonders during spring. Hopefully I can win.

    I live in Sweden, EU.

  • Dproductive1 says:

Jihan has long been my favorite of the house, followed by Joorie, Sawlaj, Yasmina and Lamar. So many excellent choices from one house! I never picked up on the Oud for Greatness similarly, but rose is my favorite note. I reside in Pennsylvania.

  • Karl take on Jihan reminded me of making, and later eating the traditional Persian Cake with rose petals, saffron, almonds , rose water , and dates. It’s called Kayk-e Eshgh , but more people know it as Persian Love Cake , or Persian Pavlova cake.
I imagined eating the cake, drinking freshly squeezed apple juice , and enjoying the moment.
Being a Pastry Chef is my passion, and I always relate fragrances to some sort of food. My two favorite Kajal fragrances are Dahab and Lamar .
Dahab is really musky, woody and kind of dusty , with mostly natural fruity sweetness. The smell reminds me of eating Granny Smith Mousse Cake with passion fruit, and non candied slices of the apple on top , while sitting next to just cut Cedar Lumber.
Lamar smells like Vanilla Cake with Strawberries and Pineapple , I do it almost every day at my bakery.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign
    USA

  • I have the pleasure of knowing most Kajal fragrances, and analyzing Karl Topham opinion, I do believe Jihan is in a way continuation of the fun but classy floral line of fragrances the house has, particularly Joorie.
As a vain guy, a few years ago i was so impressed by Sebastian review of Kajal Homme here on Cafleurebon, and bought it ,spectacular fragrance , my first Kajal. Homme II is fresh, invigorating, and refined perfume i also own . I love Homme , Homme II , and Dahab , but higher compliment factor goes to Homme II , if you care , I sure do.
Jihan is a nigt time floral , still keeping the same posh vibe. The rose , saffron and vanilla like Karl said do make the fragrance velvety , and I also think Jihan could be one of Kajal’s biggest compliment getters , all factors I can’t ignore !!! I need to try it … asap.
    Overly exciting giveaway, USA
    Regards

  • I love many of the other elements of Jihan such as rose and patchouli. But I am most intrigued by the saffron! I have not tried any perfumes from Kajal perfumes. I would love to! I am in the US.

  • Outstanding sounding fragrance as I love fragrance with saffron. Also the comparison of Jihan with a bit of Initio Oud for Greatness struck me because I really like that. Woody, floral and spicy jammy rose. Wow I would love to try and experience this scent. Thanks for the giveaway! I am in CA USA.

  • I love how Kajal brand is getting more and more traction last few years , still I believe more people need to know their fragrances , imo they are on pair with brands like Roja Dove and Xerjoff.
I know all Kajal fragrances, and I’m super pumped about the upcoming, semi-secret Homme III .
If I have to rate my favorite ones
    1.Lamar/Almaz
    2.Dahab
    3.Kajal Homme/Jihan
Jihan is everything Karl said it is, even more. My opinion of the fragrance is similar, but not exactly the same. To me the aroma is not just sweet, but mouthwatering jammy sweet rose , lots of saffron, chocolaty patchouli and just a bit oud in the background. Unlike Karl , cloves I don’t get , and in the base the leathery facets of the saffron are also more pronounced. Oh’ and like most Kajal fragrances Jihan is also VERY loud.
All profiles I already follow, @waltherp99bg . I also follow the designer Omar Ayoub , the genius behind Kajal bottle design
    Thanks a lot

  • What do we have here? Hello Jihan
Dahab I know, it smells like picnic basket full of fruits , juiciness and other surprises.
Jihan sounds like it’s cut from the same , or similar elaborate cloth , high end , party all night ,with a few coctails type of fragrance.
Woody , sweet and spicy rose, here i come.
I believe Jihan fits me really well , “Lady Boss” fragrance … howdy Michelyn 🙂
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • Lovely review Karl! What strikes me about Kajal Perfumes Jihan Kajal is how Karl describes it as a rose with a “dark element” running throughout it in the strong spicy saffron kick along with clove and patchouli. I love rose fragrances and specifically love dark spicy roses so this makes Jihan a must try for me!

My favorite perfume by the brand is the arresting Lamar. I live in the US.

  • Phillip_Barkley says:

    Greetings everyone
Out of Kajal perfumes I’m familiar with Almaz and Dahab
I’m interested in Jihan because of the spices, patchouli and the upscale rose . It’s also very much versatile fragrance , perfect for current Paris weather.
    Thank you
    American living in Paris, France

  • Half classy and refined, and half playful and maybe even slightly lustful , i think I can make a statement wearing Jihan
I like the rose, the oud , the spices , and the mildly sweet fruity base , sophisticated fragrance at its best.
I know Joorie, because my sister in law wears it regularly, but it’s the only Kajal scent I know. High quality spicy sweet rose ,with honey , I like it a lot.
If there is such option, please review also Moe Khalaf side project called Eaudemode
