Is there anything more satisfying than eating a ripe pear? According to perfumer Romano Ricci, he designed Juliette Has a Gun Pear Inc as a tribute to his childhood and to his favorite fruit, noticing as a young boy its interesting shape. But this is not a ubiquitous fruity floral. In 2010, Romano Ricci created Juliette Has a Gun Not A Perfume. Not a Perfume is one of the brands most popular fragrances and Juliette Has a Gun Pear Inc follows last year’s Musc Invisible, another minimalistic scent- this time both musky and fruity. I interviewed Romano in 2012 and here is a snippet from that interview:
What was your thinking behind Juliette Has A Gun Not a Perfume? What is it then? What’s the connection to Juliette?
Romano Ricci: It is a little bit outside of the collection actually. Instead of presenting a portrait, it is focused on a particular ingredient. Not A Perfume, being made out of a single ingredient (Cetalox©), 100% synthetic, allergen free. Quite a UFO in the perfumery world.

Romano Ricci has been the perfumer behind the brand and has composed each fragrance (with the exception of Lady Vengeance and Miss Charming by Francis Kurkdjian in 2006). He is the great grandson of the legendary Nina Ricci and grandson to Robert Ricci, which is the equivalent to rock royalty in the fragrance world (Juliette has a Gun sounds more like a rock band than a perfume company doesn’t it?). He knew it was his destiny to become a perfumer since he was a young boy and always believed he would follow in the steps of his grandfather who has been his hero since he was a child. After Parfums Nina Ricci was sold in 2000, Romano spent six years training with an obscure company named France Fragrances without anyone recognizing his last name. He launched Juliette has A Gun in 2006 at Colette, Paris and fifteen years later it is one of the most recognized niche fragrance brands in the world.
