Juliette Has A Gun Not a Perfume Superdose review

In 2010, Romano Ricci, the great grandson of the legendary Nina Ricci created Juliette Has a Gun Not A Perfume. I interviewed Romano in 2012 and here is a snippet from that interview:

What was your thinking behind Juliette Has A Gun Not a Perfume? What is it then? What’s the connection to Juliette?

Romano Ricci: It is a little bit outside of the collection actually. Instead of presenting a portrait, it is focused on a particular ingredient. Not A Perfume, being made out of a single ingredient (Cetalox© from Firmenich), 100% synthetic, allergen free. Quite a UFO in the perfumery world.

Now, 9 years later,  Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume Superdose debuts (you can watch Editor Sebastian Jara’s review of Juliette Has A Gun Not a Perfume here). So what is different about Not a Perfume Superdose …? INTENSITY.  The “come closer barely there skin scent quality is now much more discernible and amplified. Editor Sebastian Jara really loves Not a Perfume Superdose because it smells woodier and muskier.

Disclosure: Michelyn received a small sample and Sebastian received a bottle.

  • I really connected with Sebastian’s description of the smell of Cetalox which brought back a memory of a hike I had in the woods by a river. Thank you for the review and the giveaway. I’m in USA

  • It’s refreshing to hear an opinion about cetalox/ambroxan that isn’t oozing with contempt. I have a friend who is enamored with the original Not A Perfume so should I win I would love to give it to her.

  • Sunny Chaudhary says:

Back with cap however different background
Again a perfect description of a fragrance and I love the comparison between a 2010 and 2019 version along with prices and ingredients.
A huge fan of Sebastian and love all the work he is doing.

  • Malka Leybov says:

Love all of Seb’s reviews!! Such a great review of this new juice compared to the original. Love ambergris – this sounds amazing!

  • For me, “woody” has an olfactory connection with agarwood; and that’s always welcome. VA, USA.

  • This is very intriguing. I like how Sebastian described the fragrance and explained it’s made with just Cetalox. It sounds really interesting how it will blend with the individual’s skin chemistry to create a distinct scent. I also like that it’s more intense than the original and can be smelled more easily. Juliette Has A Gun Not A Perume Superdose is something unique, thanks for the generous draw! In the U.S. Thank you.

  • Definitely intrigued by the description, powdery chopped wood mixed with earthy sounds like it could be amazing. Loved the review.

  • Scott Wilbur says:

Love how he makes me want to try whatever he’s smelling! Cetalox is a new wave to investigate. I’d love to give a bottle a swirl in IL.

  • Oh, i would like to try this, I haven’t tried not a perfume, so I guess I’ll need to try that as well. Always like Sebastian’s reviews, and this one is up to par. I’m very interested in how he described the original and now the superdose a melding with your skin and creating a sexy scent. Thanks again for the review, and the draw!

  • A skin scent that is woody and musky? Sounds like a perfect Fall scent. Seb always gives a good description of the evolution of the fragrance on the skin and the background of ingredients. Thanks for the review and draw. I live in the US

  • this one sounds wonderful. i enjoy juliette has a gun fragrances but never heard of this one. usa

  • Brandon MacGillis says:

I just recently talked to some coworkers about cologne and how i would love to find a scent that small like i was i my wood shop all day refined of course. Maybe this is the one ive been dreaming of.

  • Mohamed Tarek Ahmed says:

I believe that Sebastian described the perfume perfectly and I believe it’s an amazing scent. I am in the US and I would love to try it by winning the giveaway.
    Thank you

I really enjoyed Sebastian’s review of Superdise Intense. I especially enjoyed his comparison to other minimalist fragrances like Escentric Molecules #1,2,&4. What I wanted to know was when would be the best appropriate time to wear the fragrance..ie on a date, gym, office…and what would be the best fragrances to possibly layer it with…ie, Rose’s, vettivers, gourmands?

  • fazalcheema says:

Sebastian says this is cetalox which is ambroxan substitute made by Firmenich and is alergen free. I am in US

  • I tried it, and my nose skin had a really connection with it. The earthy and woody notes are all I love for myself! Love it the amazing perfume! Also I am a huge fan of Sebastian, and he is the best fragrance reviewer on the internet nowadays!
I live in South San Francisco, California!

  • Vinny Santos says:

Very informative and beneficial for fragrance enthusiasts, I haven’t acquired any woodsy scent in the fragrance I purchased but I’m very intrigued with this one. Great information.

  • I like Not a Blue Bottle. Same Max Ernst concept. I want it to smell like something lovely. I like ambroxan. I don’t like these conceptual fragrances, usually. Allergen free and nonoffensive? What’s the point? Lol. I would like to smell this just to try to figure it out cerebrally. I’m in USA.

  • I’m a fan of the original Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume and would love to try the Superdose. Seb provided an excellent description of Cetalox and how it smells on the skin. I live in the US.

  • I really enjoyed the comparisons. I love Molecule 02/Ambroxan so I can only imagine how amazing this is. Thank you!! Utah USA

  • Michael Lynady says:

Sounds interesting and Sabastian always gives great info. Would love to try it.

  • Outstanding review by Sebastian. What I liked about the review was his description of this fragance’s minimalist style using 1 synthetic molecules. I am a fan of Molecule 01 and love to wear these type of fragrances when I can’t decide on a fragrance to wear. Thanks for the draw! I live in the USA.

  • I was not aware of this Cetalox compound so Sebastian’s YouTube review was a helpful introduction for me. I also liked the concept of a more intense version of Not a Perfume, sounds quite intriguing. Thanks for the draw. Regards from Boston, USA.

  • This sounds like it is going to be an interesting fragrance. I appreciated Sebastian’s hammering home what the Cetalox would bring to our olfactory senses. as well as the fragrance references he gave. I live in Waldorf, MD, USA.

  • Sebastian’s reviews are always interesting and this is not an exception. To create something made solely from Cetalox is very interesting. Enjoyed the review. Thank you for the generous draw. I’m in the USA

  • I am a huge fan of Juliette has a gun not a perfume. As soon as Sebastian mentioned Escentric Molecules, I knew I had to give this a try. Fragrances with synthetic notes have such longetivity and projection throughout the day as they work with your body. Another great synthetic frangrace mention would be Le Labo’s Another 13. Because of Sebastian’s thorough and detailed videos and thorough, I also purchased not another perfume vanilla vibes. Cannot wait to try superdose!

  • bizzare13495 says:

I’m very interested in this scent. I hear it get compared to molecule 01 a lot, but from Sebatians review it sounds pretty unique.

  • I enjoyed Sebastian’s review- he covers it all: background, cost, notes, chemistry, impressions, and opinion.

  • christieleonardi says:

I always love Sebastian’s way of describing perfume! It is so relatable and enjoyable! I got a sample of the regular Not A Perfume once and finished it in a week! Would love to try the superdose version!

  • Herb Juneau says:

I genuinely enjoy the straightforward insight that Sebastian gives in his reviews. I have been looking for a summer scent and have not been able to find one that works well with my body chemistry. I am a big fan of perfumes that have projection and according to Sebastian, this one does as well as musk noted which I love. I also live in the humid southern United States where it was 98 degrees yesterday. I would be honored to have this in my collection if I am chosen.
Thank you for making this fragrance and for the opportunity to get this fragrance.

    Sincere regards

  • Lara Anderson says:

After the disappointment of Not a Perfume, it will be interesting to try Superdose to see if it offers the intensity it promises. Described as woody, earthy, and musky, I can’t help but wonder what type of wood. Cedar, sandalwood, oak, they all smell different so will lend a different spin to the fragrance. Am very excited to try it and see if it performs better. Not a Perfume literally vanished on my skin after seconds.

  • Great review!
What I like about the idea of this scent is that I could imagine it being worn in any situation.
-plus I love the original so I can only imagine I’ll love this version.

  • This sounds great! I’d love to get my nose on this and would love to be entered in the giveaway. Sebastian always has such an awesome way of describing scents that make them relatable instead of just describing ingredients/notes.

  • I’m a perfume addict, and welcome new innovations and scent concoctions! Thank you for giving us a chance to try it. God bless you!

  • Oh wow! Musky, earthy, oceanic chopped wood? Yes please! Sebastian’s reviews are always great. I trust his opinion and very much would love to win this scent. USA

  • Sebastian described the first not a perfume so well. I couldn’t smell it on myself but I got so many compliments. It didn’t last that long.I didn’t know that Romano Rocco was an actual perfumer and that he was related to Nina Ricci. I read the interview which was great too.
Excellent review by Sebastian he really knows his fragrance and I trust him and Cafleurebon for the best information

  • Thank you for your review! I will definitely be trying this as I love the original version. The fragrance is very clean, woody and sexy on my skin and I love how it can smell different on others.

  • I have sampled the original version and found I liked it. Would love to win this bottle of the intense version. I like the fresh and clean of the original and I like having some minimalist fragrances to wear. US

  • I love ISO Super E and the idea of a woodier version. Is Sebastian ever wrong? Superdose may be dabber, but it’s love the opportunity to find out. I live in the USA.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I haven’t smelled the original because I was a bit put off by the simplicity and marketing of a one aromachemical fragrance but this sounds awesome. Woods, earth, and musk are always a winning combination. I love Sebastian’s reviews. He always manages to make me excited about something even whether I want to be or not. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • I love all of Sebastian’s videos! I also really like the original and perfumes in this “not a perfume” category. I would love a bottle!

  • platinumdust says:

I really loved Sebastian’s review. I also adore Not a Perfume, so I’m really intrigued by how the “superdose” version will smell like. Thank you for the review and giveaway as always. Cheers! California, USA

  • wallygator88 says:

This review about a minimalistic perfume piqued my interest. I always enjoy Sebastien’s reviews because he has a love for perfumes – irrespective of whether they are over the top or minimalistic, natural or synthetic.

    Love from Madison, WI

  • I thoroughly enjoy the thought of amplified minimalism. Woody fragrances are excellent choices for sophistication, and this fragrance seems to have a lot of sophistication. I’m also intrigued by its usage of this new depiction of ambergris. Commenting from USA.

  • patrick_348 says:

I always like how Sebastian’s reviews are practical and take into account different peoples’ tastes and preferences, and this was no exception. I am intrigued by his descripition of Not a Perfume Superdose, and the scent sounds both minimalist and masculine.

  • m.r.everything says:

Not a Perfume caught my attention years ago when it first came out (Wow, I cannot believe it has been 10 years already), but it was not on my want list until a couple of years ago. I never got around to smelling it until I was sent a sample with an order. I knew instantly, I had to have it. From that first spray, I knew that I would have a bottle in my collection. I have many fragrances, but I seem to get compliments EVERY time I wear Not a Perfume. Don’t get me wrong, I get compliments with a lot of my fragrances, but Not a Perfume garners a compliment every single time I wear it. I have even had cashiers ask me what I was wearing and actually wrote down the name to get it. (They looked at me weird when I told them the name, but hey, it is a great perfume, or NOT a perfume, haha!) When I read that Superdose was being released, I knew that I would have to get my hands on this one as well! An amped up version of something I already really enjoy?!?! How could one go wrong! Before tuning in to Sebastian, I had to run and get a spray of the original! Watching him tell us how it is a more potent juice than the original, which I already suspected, makes me want it that much more! This is one I will definitely be seeking out regardless! Thank you for the opportunity, as always, and thanks for the great review Sebastian! I know my wallet doesn’t thank you, but I definitely do! I live in Delaware, US. I hope you all have a great weekend!

  • Sebastian and his reviews I’ll never get tired of. Earthy and chopped woods , “Everything intensified” I like the whole picture.
    Thank you. USA

  • I had no experience with Juliette Has a Gun , but enjoyed the reviews of Lady Vengeance by Christi Long , and Vanilla Vibes by Mr. Jara . Tried some , and and up buying Vanilla Vibes.
Beachy , suntan lotion kind of smell, with coconut , some aquatic and salty touches, and big dose of vanilla. Almost exactly like Mr. Jara described it.
    Not a Perfume Superdose ?
Woody fresh, long lasting and loud is combination I crave for during autumn. As a barber I find it well suited for rainy weather.
    Fingers crossed.
    Thanks USA

  • Interesting fragrance. I’d like to try this out
Haven’t tried any Juliette Has A Gun fragrance.
I might enjoy this one. Thanks, Ca

  • Sebastian is so good promoting fragrances. I feel like I have to try at least 8/10 fragrances he’s reviewing. Same thing with Not a Perfume Superdose .
The truth most people are buying fragrances like Not a Perfume , Molecule 02 , and now the new Not a Perfume Superdose not to wear them as standalone fragrances, but to layer them , to extend the longevity and projection of those close to the skin perfumes they love.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign.

  • I love when he’s talking about it interacting with your body and it’s own smells and how that’s when the compliments kick in.

  • I loved how Sebastian also talked about the original, Not A Perfume briefly and made some comparisons between the two. He also indicated that this is woody and mote intense which I like.
    I live in USA.

  • It’s pouring on the outside, so Not a Perfume Superdose I gladly wear at this moment. It will be perfect for leaves on the ground, and lots of rain kind of days.
I’ve been following Cafleurebon,Sebastian ,Romano and Juliette Has A Gun on IG for a long time.
Own full bottle of Into The Void , and i had Mmm . Into The Void is not from the same line as Not a Perfume Superdose ,but from more uspscale line called “Luxury collection”.
    Nice giveaway, thank you.

Thank you for your practical reviews. I have allergies, and perfume is something I typically have to avoid. I nevertheless check reviews hoping to find a fragrance I like and can tolerate, and someone recently recommended I look into Not a Perfume. I came across your reviews after going through lots that were uninformative or insufferable and tried too hard. I was able to get a sample of the original Not a Perfume yesterday, and I think I would like Superdose even more.

  • I’ve tried the original and enjoy it. I like that this one sounds much stronger. But on top of that, Sebastian makes it sound more complex, since it has the earthy and woodier notes. I didn’t get that in the original. The original was more like scented skin.
Im in the US. thanks for the draw

  • Michael Prince says:

Sebastian, great review of Juliette Has A Not A Perfume Superdose. This sounds like a unique earthy, woody, musky, and ambroxen fragrance that is an intensified version of the original. It is really interesting how these single molecule fragrances mix with your individual skin chemistry to come up with a unique smell. I would love to try this fragrance. I am from the USA.

  • Rebecca Kitt Arnold says:

I had JHAG Not A Perfume and was disappointed that I had not the pleasure of smelling it that others did. Compliments – yes! But I couldn’t smell it and that’s 90% of the fun for me. I’d love to have the whole experience.

  • Loooove JHAG!!! I am so excited to try this scent!!
I honestly cannot think of one scent from the line that I dislike, not even slightly! Thank you for opportunity to snag a bottle!!

Juliette Has a Gun was a new house to me. I have heard the name mentioned on Youtube because ot Vanilla Vibes , and after Cafleurebon review I went trying it, and now I own it , it’s even my scent of the day.
Vanilla Vibes is a pleasant mostly warm weather scent . Vanilla , salt and orchid combination I can wear all year round, even if it’s cold ,if I overspray of course. Not a Perfume Superdose will be a nice fall pair to Vanilla Vibes , woody and earthy. Thank you all. In USA

  • Charles Montgomery says:

Another outstanding break down by Sevastian of a what seems a fantastic scent. What’s interesting is the is fragrance with the concept of molecule 01 which I havent been able to smell while wearing yet others around me can detect it. In this, is the same concept yet the wearer can smell it and people around the wearer can also detect more so I’m intrigued by these to key features. I also like the notes mentioned.
I’m located in the USA and appreciate including me in the draw

  • I really like Sebastian descriptions, and this one too, ecspecially about Cetalox. I like Escentric Molecula’s style Not a Perfume- very complimentary perfume. And want to have this one too. US

  • Thanks for another great review, Sebastian! I like JHAG Not a Perfume but like you said, it’s a very simplistic scent. It’s a beautiful scent but it’s just too faint for me. I’m happy that they released a Superdose version. Thanks for this draw. – CA, USA

  • Loved this review! I’ve tested out the original Not A Perfume and really enjoyed it. But it was such a skin scent on me. So much so, I never ended up buying a full bottle. But I love they made the Superdose version. I really wanted it to be “more”/intense and this sounds like this fits the bill! I like that Sebastian says that it’s very musky, too. I’m really excited for this release!
    I live in the USA.

  • Excellent review by Sebastian and I love the way that he describes this fragrance! I loved the original and can’t wait to try this one. The overdose on Woody and Musky sounds amazing! Thanks for the giveaway and I live in the US!

  • Juliette has a gun I know because of “Mmmm” . It’s like a Hypnotic Poison flanker – had to get it, since I am huge Hypnotic Poison fan.It is really sweet , and vanilla is the most prominent note. With Ambroxan , and it’s twin Catalox single ingredient Colognes you could create your own flankers . With layering Mmmm and Not a Perfume Superdose I’ll prolong the performance of Mmmm , but also change it a bit, giving it woody touch. Nice opportunity, thank you.

Perfumery is art and although I have not samples the intense version yet, the original Not a Perfume sure does prove so.

  • I liked how he gave a clear informative explanation as always! I’m glad for the more intense version of this.

  • Scott Milstein says:

I enjoyed Sebastian’s review explaining the differences between the original and the superdose. The concept is very unique in the development of a fragrance. I look forward to getting my nose on this.

  • Jessa Kerr says:

I received a sample of “NOT a perfume” with my Ipsy monthly mailing… I’ve never been the same since. I am completely obsessed with the scent. If i could I’d have my whole house smell like it. of course different folks resonate with different scents. This one resonates with ME for certain.
Unfortunately my heart was broken when even my tiny sample bottle accidentally went through the wash in a pocket of my work uniform pants. The bottle is empty.
Magically, the scent STILL lingers on those pants and one can smell the lovely scent even in the vicinity of where I keep my work uniforms.
I try to be realistic in my budget, but I HAD to get a bottle of this to replace that ill-fated sample size. I won’t be complete until I have it, am wearing it, and can sail through the world in a scent-dream of it…
