If there’s one ingredient that reigns supreme, it’s undoubtedly the queen herself—Vanilla. She’s been in the spotlight lately, dolled up like a sugar bomb, turned into a cupcake so sweet it could send you into a sugar coma with just one sniff. But before this sugary takeover, vanilla had a different vibe—a richer, deeper allure crafted for those who knew better. This isn’t about the trend-chasers; this is a story of vanilla’s untamed past, where she ruled with sophistication and an edge. And where we madly fell in love with her entire essence. That’s why Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief suggested that we do a three-part series (so far): Niche Vanilla Icons (2006-1011), Niche Contemporary Vanillas (2015-2023) and Indie Vanillas.

Indult Paris Tihota review

Indult Paris Tihota by Olya Bar©

Indult Paris Tihota (Francis Kurkdjian) 2006: An unrestrained vanilla, Indult Paris Tihota is sweet, raw, and irresistibly delectable. Composed by master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, this fragrance needs no introduction and is perhaps one of the most sought-after vanilla fragrances in niche perfumery. It’s creamy and as light as a cloud, wrapping you in a warm, comforting embrace with every wear. This fragrance celebrates the full spectrum of Tahitian Vanilla’s natural facets—a unique hybrid of two species, vanilla, and tahitensis. Its natural scent is often more floral with rich undertones of ripe fruit, with deeper facets of blend of chocolate, licorice, and caramel. One of my guilty pleasures is making panna cotta with real vanilla beans, and as the heavy cream mixed with sugar warms, the air fills with the intoxicating aroma of rich, buttery vanilla. That’s exactly what Indult Paris Tihota smells like—addictive, gourmand, and undeniably original, as it paved the way for many of the vanilla fragrances which emerged after. Notes: Tahitian vanilla, cane sugar, almond milk accord, Tonka bean, white musk, amber.

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille review

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille by Olya Bar©

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille (Olivier Gillotin) 2007: Let’s rewind for a second. Even as a current die-hard gourmand lover, my fragrance journey didn’t start with vanilla. I was all about lush florals and boozy leathers at first —until I crossed paths with the wicked Ms. V. It all went down at a lavish party in the South of France, where I caught a whiff of Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille on a man who oozed confidence and masculinity. The way that scent fit him—I was smitten, the scent of course it is.  By the time I was back in the States, I knew my first purchase had to be Tobacco Vanille. In 2007 when it was created by Olivier Gillotin, that fragrance not only ignited a mass obsession and pathed the way for many tasteful fragrance wardrobes but maybe even participated in a couple of heartbreaks along the way. Boozy, resinous, and with the most intoxicating scent trail it still makes my heart skip beat. I don’t reach for it often these days, maybe because I prefer to savor it like a fine, aged scotch—something you sip slowly, reserved for those moments when you’re either celebrating a milestone or diving deep into memories where secrets linger and untold stories stay hidden. (M. Gillotin of Givaudan received a lifetime achievement award at the World Perfumery Congress in 2022). Notes: Tobacco Leaf, Spicy Notes; Vanilla, Cacao, Tonka Bean, Tobacco Blossom; Dried Fruits, Woody Notes.

Mona Di Orio Vanille 2011

Mona Di Orio Vanille by Olya Bar (original bottle)

Mona di Orio Vanille (Mona Di Orio) 2011: When independent perfumer extraordinaire Mona di Orio imagined Vanille, she conjured a tale of an old ship bound for Madagascar or the Comoros Islands, loaded with treasures like rum barrels, oranges, vanilla beans, ylang-ylang, cloves, and sandalwood. It has been a maddening obsession for me since the first time I sprayed it. It’s almost bewitching and feels like your senses are being quite literally deranged. To translate the full beauty of vanilla, Mona Di Orio used pure vanilla in this elixir, making it gourmand, smoky, and boozy at once with a subtle aromatic orange note lingering in the background. The first spritz hits like a sip of dark aged rum, rimmed with crushed orange, brown sugar, and the warm depth of nutty tonka bean. As it settles, a creamy ylang-ylang emerges, while the dry down is a devilishly sensual leather with an animalic muskiness and is impossible to resist. When the world lost Mona di Orio, it lost one of the greatest female perfumers of our time. Every drop of this elixir feels like a magical potion as if it were discovered in an ancient treasure chest. We hold it close to our hearts, knowing it is truly irreplaceable. Notes: Clove, Rum, Bitter Orange, Petitgrain; Guaiac Wood, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Ylang-Ylang; Madagascar Vanilla, Amber, Tonka Bean, Tolu Balsam, Leather, Musk.

For more on Mona di Orio check out EIC Michelyn Camen’s interview with her at this link.

Disclosure Olya’s and Michelyn’s bottles of Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and Mona Di Orio Vanille are our own. A bottle of Indult Paris Tihota was kindly gifted to Olya and Michelyn (who drained hers dry in 2009) by the brand but opinions are always my own.

First of all, thank you for this introduction to these three decadent fragrances.
I enjoyed how Olya brought out the true natures of each parfum. With vanilla as the focus of each, it can be easy to get lost amongst them but Olya did a fantastic job of staying true to each. I am most familiar with the Tom Ford rendition of vanilla and she accurately and precisely described the scent experience.

  • I really enjoyed how Olya captured the rich depth of each vanilla fragrance in the review, especially with her personal anecdotes—like the sensory link between Tihota and making panna cotta. The co-curation with Michelyn really shines too, as they balance nostalgia with a modern take on niche perfumes. The way they both describe Tobacco Vanille’s evolution from a bold classic to something worth savoring makes me want to rediscover it. The series feels like a tribute to vanilla’s versatility, and I can’t wait for the next part!

  • Olya’s review totally pulled me in, especially the way she described the scents. Comparing Tihota to cooking panna cotta was such a cool touch, it made the perfume feel even more real. And I loved how she explained Tobacco Vanille as something you savor over time. The co-curation with Michelyn feels like a perfect blend of passion and expertise. Their breakdowns of each fragrance were spot on, making me excited to try these classics myself. Really looking forward to what you feature next.

  • The description of rum barrels with a complex vanilla note combined with other cozy notes for Fall makes this perfume seem tantalizing. A complex gourmand scent that has smokiness and again, a sophisticated boozy note, sounds like an essential Fall fragrance anyone would love to try. USA

  • For a gourmand lover and vanilla lover like myself, I am ashamed I only know 1 of these 3 fragrances. Tobacco Vanille is exactly as Olya described, sexy, masculine and confident. You can see through the bottle of Mona Di Orio how rich the vanilla is based on the color of the liquid inside. A chuck full of notes and one of the best vanillas ever created, at some point in my life I must get my nose on it (Mona Di Orio’s Vanille). Then we have the creation by master perfumer Francis Kurldjian and this one reads elegance to me. A sought after vanilla and based on the notes I can see how creamy and supple it is to our noses. A great selection of fragrances and a series that must continue as new vanilla creations come in flocks every year. Cheers from the USA.

  • Thanks for the nice writeup on these fragrances Olya!

Of all the fragrances, Mona di Orio’s Vanille is the one that I enjoyed reading about the most. There are beautiful nuances and strong strokes of contrasting and complementary notes, like the smokiness, orange peel and the booziness.

I would love to sample this.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Of the three, I have only tried Tobacco Vanille, and appreciate its booziness. Vanilla is one of my favorite notes, in all its glorious variations. I love warm, comforting scents, and have long wanted to try Tihota. Mona Di Orio Vanille sounds deep and magical! I am in the USA.

  • Ah, vanilla, a true favorite of so many fragrance lovers. It’s facets comfort us and make us feel loved every time we wear it. It was great to learn about a couple new ones today, as I had not heard of Tihhota or Vanille before today. They both sound phenomenal, but I am more intrigued by Tihota. As a fan of Kurkdjian’s work, I would love to experience one of his older scents, especially one that was so lauded by Olya as being a trailblazer in the world of vanilla fragrances. I like the sound of the almond milk accord, and I am sure that it will have that undeniable Kurkdjian feel to it. Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • I really enjoyed Olya’s review because of her detailed and evocative descriptions of each perfume. Her ability to compare the different vanilla scents and highlight their unique characteristics made it easy to understand what sets them apart. The personal anecdotes and sensory imagery she used brought the fragrances to life, making me eager to try them all! I really appreciated Michelyn’s and Olya’s co-curations because of their insightful and thorough approach to reviewing each perfume. Their combined expertise brought a unique perspective, highlighting the nuances of each vanilla scent. The way they described the fragrances made it easy to imagine the experience of wearing them. Their passion for perfumery truly shines through in their detailed and engaging reviews. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

I love this series and how it highlights the past vanilla fragrances! Oldies but goodies!! I love how Indult Paris Tihota was compared to making panna cotta with real vanilla beans. I can vividly picture it and am here for it! I have not tried tobacco vanilla but love how you can savor it like scotch. I could put it on at night and enjoy it like I do fine scotch. Mona di Orio vanille also boozy which gives it a rich touch. Great vanillas! – New York, NY

  • If there’s one ingredient that reigns supreme, it’s undoubtedly the queen herself—Vanilla. She’s been in the spotlight lately, dolled up like a sugar bomb, turned into a cupcake so sweet it could send you into a sugar coma with just one sniff.

    Well…well 🙂
As a Classically trained in Paris Pastry Chef i have to say the whole article was was a pleasure to read. Thank you for all the culinary references.
☆ Indult Paris Tihota is like Olya Bar said one of the most sought-after niche vanilla fragrances , with creamy and kind of cloudy aroma. I can see the Panna Cotta parallel , and I can smell almondy facets too .
Tahitian Vanilla is so interesting and complex , the flavor and aroma are delicately floral and fruity , with distinct notes of black cherry and tart plum. The more picky Pastry Chefs prefer Tahitian Vanilla for its exotic flavor, juicier pod, and high seed content.
I’m impressed Indult Paris and Francis Kurkgjian are working with Tahitian Vanilla since the production only accounts for 0.5 to 1% of global production, making it a rare, luxury product. It is often referred to as Tahiti’s black gold.
☆ Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille was changed multiple times during the years, it’s way sweeter, almost glazed now in comparison to ~15 years ago
☆ Mona di Orio Vanille is something I need to try, Olya’s take on the fragrance made me think of making and later on eating Orange and Rum Entremet with Madagascar Vanilla Bean Mousse.
Highly appreciate the 3 reviews, and the Vanilla topic giveaway

  • Each of these fragrances sound absolutely perfect for the upcoming fall weather. Thank you for your thoughts and opinions, now I need them all on my shelf! I am located in USA

  • Hello beautiful untamed and sophisticated vanilla fragrances 😉
Indult Paris Tihota and Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille are both well known, sought-after and respected vanilla fragrances.
Tihota is a fruity almondy vanilla, addictive and delicious. Who could say no to Olya Bar panna cotta with real vanilla teasing? I can’t
Tobacco Vanille is not what it used to be unfortunately, you’d better savor your bottles and maybe call me for an aged scotch , why not House of Hazelwood vintage cask aged 44 years Scotch Whiskey?
Mona di Orio Vanille is a different vanilla, fruity, boozy and floral . The brown sugar, orange and sensual leather are impossible to resist.
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • Coincidence or destiny? I’ve been immersed in research on atypical non-gourmand vanillas and keep seeing Tohita mentioned everywhere! However, what stood out to me most in Olya’s review was the journey she painted of Mona di Orio Vanille which leaves a swashbuckling impression on me. A boozy pirata warmth.

As for Michelyn and Olya’s co-curation… I feel this first part in the series offers such eclectic selections and interpretations from them both that I look forward to seeing how the remaining reviews really round out the world of Vanille.

Vanilla is one of the notes in perfumery that I find quite mesmerising. The warm memories it stirs up in me, makes this one of my favorite scents. Olya, thank you for bringing each of these vanilla creations to life in my olfactive mind via your in-depth descriptions. I own Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and find this to be ideal for celebrating milestones. The other two, I have yet to experience. However, from your article, you’ve greatly piqued my desire to experience sooner, than later 🙂

  • I am SO glad you included Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille – it is one of my favorites and my very first Tom Ford I ever tried. Until this day, it is my most desired dark vanilla fragrances. It is truly a classic.

I have never smelled Indult Paris Tihota. You describe it as “bewitching” and that caught my attention. I like that it includes some other notes than just gourmand ones, like ylang ylang and orange to give it complexity. It definitely sounds boozy and dark and need to get my hands on it!

    I live in the USA.

  • Great write up on a few vanilla based fragrances. As I’ve never smelled the one by Francis, I usually love his stuff so I’m sure this one would be amazing too!

    From the USA

  • I loved reading about this “vanillic trio”. Each of the selected perfumes has such a defined and unique personality, bringing about a new interpretation of this evergreen aroma, and I find that inspiring and intriguing, making me want to know, and smell, more.
I have unfortunately only sampled Tobacco Vanille and it’s such a gorgeous, confident fragrance for the coming season.

An exquisite scent of Tahitian vanilla enveloped in sugar cane syrup, nuanced by a touch of white musk, evolving into a magical long-lasting drydown that inspires an obsessive devotion to those who wear it. The result is unique. I am from Eu

  • Absolutely had plans on diving into more vanillas for this cooler season coming up, so this list is right on time. I’ve never smelled any or these, so the curation was definitely an informative read.

I love vanilla! And these are the types of vanilla fragrances I adore yet somehow I have not tried any of these. Your review makes me feel like I have been living incorrectly for not knowing at least one of these fragrances. From your review, there is something boozy about each of these and maybe that is the aspect of vanilla that I love. I also love your description of Mona di Orio Vanille making you fee like your senses are deranged. I think I need to start my sampling with this one. I’m looking forward to the rest of this three part series! From the US.

  • Love the idea of co-curated vanilla fragrances .
I’ve heard people talking about in high regards of Indult Paris Tihota and based on what I read there’s a good reason for that. It’s made by Francis Kurkgjian, creamy and comforting fragrance with rich undertones of ripe fruits, chocolate, licorice and caramel. Tihota is a fragrance with lots of depth, and unique character .
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille was one of my very first higher end fragrance. You should savor your older bottle because it’s there’s no denying Estee Lauder changed the fragrance for the worse.
Old ship boud for Madagascar with rum , oranges leather and brown sugar? Olya Bar and Michelyn Camen painted a picture of a fragrance with intricate character . Mona di Orio Vanille sounds so good
Thanks for the draw, from the USA

  • The time for vanilla fragrances is coming. I happen to own another vanilla fragrance from Indult Paris My Ju-Ju , it’s made by Nathalie Feisthauer. In comparison to Tihota My Ju-Ju is more citrusy , floral and powdery. Tihota seems deeper and more suited for the colder and rainy days with rich buttery vanilla with chocolate and ripe fruits facets.
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille is a classic I smelled for the first time at Neiman Marcus early 2010’s. I don’t remember i ever experienced boozy facets, but last time I’ve smelled the new fragrances from a new bottle here in Germany I’d say it’s weaker in comparison to my ~ 10 years old bottle, and smelled sweater.
If I have to guess based on what I learned today is that Mona di Orio Vanille is high end , refined and alluring tropical vanilla fragrance with some spicy exoticism ,.
    Thanks to all involved

  • But before this sugary takeover, vanilla had a different vibe—a richer, deeper allure crafted for those who knew better. This isn’t about the trend-chasers; this is a story of vanilla’s untamed past, where she ruled with sophistication and an edge.
    – Olya Bar

Again Olya is speaking like a true adept, she knows all fragrances , liquor and pastries very well .
It has been a pleasure learning about the idea of doing not one , but three-part vanilla series.
You can’t go wrong with vanilla fragrance made by Francis Kurkgjian. He’s always trying new things, and ways to get better in every sense of the way and the Tahitian Vanilla full spectrum, ripe fruits, sugar warmth in Indult Paris Tihota aspects are calling me .
Tobacco Vanille is a must have for me , usually I wear it only in the Winter.
I’m a fan of beautiful things, opulent aura, boozy and resinous fragrances , Mona di Orio Vanille is quite an interesting vanilla fragrance
    Much obliged

Olya Bar and Michelyn Camen co-curated list of vanilla fragrances is like a basket case with vanilla pods, exotic fruits , liquor , delicious treats, lots of fun and positive emotions
Olya Bar surely have her own inimitable style of reviewing fragrances, more cozy and chilling. Her affection for living life the best way possible emerged when she spoke of Indult Paris Tihota, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and Mona di Orio Vanille.
When I read the article I started thinking about how different vanilla fragrances can be , especially when made by exceptional perfumers.
With Tihota Olya actually made me think of watching the stars on the porch at midnight in October covered with a blanket, whereas some just taken out of oven vanilla dessert with fruits is warming my belly
Tobacco Vanille i haven’t smelled in years, boozy and resinous vanilla with tobacco I’ll have to revisit.
Mona di Orio Vanille floral, leathery and animalic muskiness are impossible to resist.
Thank you for the draw EU

  • Salutations
It could be my impressions only but I believe most people associate Indult Paris with Tihota and Tom Ford with Tobacco Vanille , both fragrances are really famous , both are some of the best vanilla fragrances I’ve ever smelled . I’m not familiar with Mona di Orio Vanille
It was a pleasure reading Olya Bar and Michelyn Camen essay ,i’ve learned some interesting details . What grabbed me the most, in no particular order a) Cafleurebon team ambition to deliver different contents, i can’t wait for Part 2 and 3 b) Francis Kurkgjian and Olivier Gillotin being the perfumers of Tihota and Tobacco Vanille c) the Tahitian Vanilla history d) how all 3 vanilla fragrances are sophisticated and not linear e) the chocolate, licorice and caramel facets in Tihota
    It’s been a pleasure

  • Olya’s reviews are amazing, I have been wanting to try Tihota but after reading these, I need to try all three! I most love the emotion she describes, versus focusing solely on notes. That’s what captivates us, we love scents for how they make us feel. I am grateful for this co-curation with Michelyn because it is so highly curated, by two experienced fragrance lovers. I know they have smelled countless fragrances and are bringing us the best! This expertise and collaboration is hard to find. Thanks for this series, looking forward to the rest! I live in Washington State, just outside Seattle.

  • Vanilla really is. versatile note. It can be the centerpieces for fragrances that are toothachingly sweet or complex and sexy. I do not enjoy the former but I love the darker take on vanilla. Olya chose three good representatives. Indult Paris Tihota is on the sweeter side but its interest lies in its complexity. The amber with its caramel and chocolate notes really takes it into a unique and delicious place, MD, USA.

  • Vanilla is undeniably addictive. And youve chosen some true standouts!! My heart still hurts thinking about Mona di Orio. She had such a way with making these fabulously sensual fragrances. Warm, smoky, ethereal, curious, complex and entirely wearable. Truly missed! I’m on my 3rd bottle of Tihota! Somehow it’s just perfect. I would love to have another as mine is getting low again. Looking forward to seeing what other vanillas come up. Some of my other favorite vanillas are Vanille Insensee by Atelier Cologne and Polynesia by Teone Reinthal. I am in California. Thank you for the giveaway!

    Greetings everyone
Walking into Jovoy in Paris is like waking into Victoria and Albert Museum in London, you’ll be fascinated by the sheer amount of elaborate fragrance brands, that’s where I discovered Indult Paris fragrances .
I like how Ms Camen and Ms Bar have chosen 3 very different vanilla fragrances. , the more inviting and relaxing Tihota , the more punchy reserved for celebration times Tobacco Vanille , and adventurous Mona di Orio Vanille.
I love the vanilla beans pastry comparison Ms Bar made , Tihota is creamy , sugary and addictive.
Tobacco Vanille after all those years is still a bestseller, maybe not as good and deep as it used to be 10+ years ago , still the vanilla, resins and tobacco combination have a place in my wardrobe.
Mona di Orio I know by name only , Vanille is like a smoky and boozy magical vanilla potion .
Thank you, American living in EU

Splendid approach, I like such inside information I can’t find anywhere else but on Cafleurebon , thank you Olya.
I like artistic vanilla fragrance and I’ll try to express my opinion on the topic. I find impressive how Michelyn and Olya co-signed an article with elegant , adventurous and lavish vanilla fragrances. There’s also a sense of exclusivity in all Indult Paris Tihota, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and Mona di Orio Vanille .
Panna Cotta with real vanilla beans comparison grabbed me instantly, I’m all about guilty pleasures, ripe fruits and natural scents.
I think Tobacco Vanille is great, not boozy though at least not to me.
The leather, nutty tonka bean ,aged rum and cloves ,Mona di Orio is indeed a magical potion in an ancient treasure chest.
Thanks for the delicious and passionate reviews

  • I believe it’s easy to say Olya Bar enjoys all her experiences with Tihota from Indult Paris, Tobacco Vanille from Tom Ford and Vanille from Mona di Orio. The idea of the future Part 2 and 3 is appreciated, can’t wait.
I know Tobacco Vanille very well , I’m not familiar with Indult Paris Tihota and Mona di Orio Vanille.
Novelty almost tropical fragrance, with Tahitian Vanilla and cane sugar , ripe fruits and other deeper facets , no wonder Olya Bar thinks it paved the way for many vanilla fragrances that emerged later on.
I believe Mona di Orio Vanille is half romantic and cozy , half daring and passionate vanilla fragrance with leather and rum aspects.

Favorite comment is “Every drop of this elixir feels like a magical potion as if it were discovered in an ancient treasure chest.”
Sounds like when you discover the ultimate fragrance. So amazing it requires a back up or two.

  • I get a smoky hint in Tihota, but I loved the pancotta story: made me hungry! And now I have another vanilla to try in Mona d Orio, as I haven’t sampled that yet. I live in the US.

  • Vanilla will forever be one of my favorite ingredients and also note in perfumery. I was never a trend chaser and I’m pleased by the 3 suggestions by Olya and Michelyn.
Indult Paris i discovered thanks to Ida Meister and Cafleurebon, 2-3 years ago in her take on Ju-Ju she spoke of meringues, vanilla, coffee and lemonade. Soon after I sampled the fragrance i bought a bottle. Tihota is just as good as Ju-Ju, if not even better, i especially like the deeper and richer undertones like ripe fruits, buttery vanilla, chocolate and caramel.
Tobacco Vanille is lovely , still ignites the people who like lavish fragrances.
I very much agree with Olya when she said Mona di Orio Vanille is like a magical potion, I too cherish my bottle very much . Since I bought it years ago I was under the impression I have an original bottle myself, but judging by the pictures in the article I was wrong because my bottle oval shaped , the cap is different , the bottom is thick glass and even the logo is not the same. The crushed orange and brown sugar make me feel like I’m smelling home made orange jam.
    Thanks for the draw

  • I wish there was a video of Olya Bar and Michelyn Camen discussing the three very special fragrances . I think Olya tone implies she’s as thrilled as she’s ever been in terms of vanilla perfumes.
I’d like to share my favorite part of the thoughtful essay

“This fragrance celebrates the full spectrum of Tahitian Vanilla’s natural facets—a unique hybrid of two species, vanilla, and tahitensis. Its natural scent is often more floral with rich undertones of ripe fruit, with deeper facets of blend of chocolate, licorice, and caramel”

Love, love and love again. It’s remarkable that Francis Kurkgjian always finds found the perfect balance in every fragrance he creates. The mixture of Tahitian Vanilla, ripe fruits, floral softness I’m looking for the most.
I’m in the process of hunting for a vintage Tobacco Vanille bottle, I find the currently available in the stores version very much inferior.
Like everything in real life some components Mona di Orio Vanille are gentle like ylang-ylang, some delicious like the brown sugar , vanilla, others are more daring like the rum barrels and the leather.
    From EU. Many thanks

Out of all three, I’ve only smelled Tihota and I really enjoy that perfume. I love the simplicity and beauty of the perfume that lets vanilla be the star of the show!!

  • Thanks to Olya Bar and Michelyn Camen reviews i started thinking about all kinds of warm and delicious moments I’d like to experience in the Fall.
I believe Francis Kurkgjian has carefully chosen every single raw material , so the fragrance can tell a different and more unique vanilla story. Because Olya Bar I’m now curious about Indult Paris Tihota , and the way it evolves. The contrast between the the vanilla with ripe fruits feel , creamy and floral haze is to die for.
I really like Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, not sure why some people believe it’s a masculine fragrance.
Old ship bound for Madagascar or Comoros Islands loaded with treasures like rum barrels, oranges, vanilla beans, ylang-ylang , cloves and sandalwood? Wow

  • Although Tobacco Vanille is the most popular vanilla among the 3 presented in Olya’s (Co Curated with Michelyn Camen) review, the most praised by lovers of pure, straightforward vanilla note is Tihota. I’m glad it appears here, on Cafleurbon, because I haven’t had the opportunity to test it and it’s up there on my wish list. This giveaway is a dream come true.

Many times I’ve read about the musky side of Tihota, and Francis is my favorite perfumer. If he created the amber and my favorite orange blossom, didn’t he also create the perfect vanilla of them all?

I must say that my favorite part of the review was this little confession in Tobacco Vanille’s review – “I prefer to savor it like a fine, aged scotch—something you sip slowly, reserved for those moments when you’re either celebrating a milestone or diving deep into memories where secrets linger and untold stories stay hidden”.

    THANK YOU

Fingers crossed, I live in EU.

  • The unique merging of alluring vanilla, floral density , cane sugar , chocolate and licorice are the most appealing sides of Indult Paris Tihota I’m expecting an intoxicating haze that came as a result of the merging.
I too have one very old Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille bottle, only on special occasions , like a fine aged scotch whiskey.
Ok why I’m not aware of Mona di Orio Vanille … I like how pure vanilla is used , sophisticated gourmand that’s smoky and boozy, with orange in the background.
    Thanks

  • These all sound amazing but Tihota has been on my list of fragrances to try for a long while. I’ve only heard good things and reading the notes and knowing it was a Kurkdjian creation you just know it’s absolutely stellar. Thank you for these wonderful write ups. You can just never have enough Vanilla! I live in the US

  • unrestrained vanilla, Indult Paris Tihota is sweet, raw, and irresistibly delectable. A beautiful description by Olya really intrigued by the notes especially cane sugar, Tonka bean, white musk and amber. The fact that Michelyn chose to do a three part series on Vanilla just showcasing the allure of this special ingredient just absolutely magical. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • A wonderful description by Michelyn highlights the allure and mysterious nature of Vanilla I am glad you are doing a three part series. I am particularly fascinated by Indult Paris Tihota because of the notes of cane sugar, Tahitian vanilla and almond milk. I absolutely adore gourmand and this sounds like something right up my street. Thanks a million from the UK

  • Indult Paris Tihota sounds interesting. How can you go wrong with the notes of chocolate, licorice, and caramel. This is a gourmand lovers dream. Add Francis Kurkdjian to the mix and this has to be a hit!

Vanilla, being my most favored ingredient in perfumes, is showcased here with utmost care and expertise. I have not made the opportunity to try any of the three fragrances listed above, but they are now on my must try list. I thank Cafleurebon almost daily for new scents to add to my list. I would be ecstatic to win. I live in Oregon.

Vanilla note seem to be having a moment, especially for this time of the year and i am very happy to read Olay’s review on these different fantastic vanilla fragrances. As a gourmand lover i am always in a search to discover new vanilla perfumes that would be my dreamy scent!
I am fascinated by Olay’s description on Indult Paris Tihota as a fluffy and airy creation, sounds kind of like buttercream frosting, quite airy but full of vanilla. For me This is the mother of all vanillas!
Tobacco Vanille is very well known and very loved to me! It was also my first love to my perfume journey. It embraces one with a beautiful aura of luxurious vanilla and intoxicating tobacco! A wonderful, festive and addictive fragrance.
Mona di Orio Vanille is new to me, so I cant wait to try it next time! I find it very intriguing the description of rum barrels with oranges, vanilla beans, ylang-ylang, cloves, and sandalwood. A very smoky, boozy dark vanilla! It sounds the perfect winter warming gourmand!
Thank you Olya for this gorgeous writeup on these fragrances and I can’t wait for the next part!
Best of luck to all! I live in Germany 🙂

  • I’m in love with vanilla fragrances and I’m so curious about this “Vanilla series”. Thanks to Olya and Michelyn for the insightful reviews. I know Tobacco Vanille and Mona di Orio Vanille and I think your way of describing them is engaging, true and effective. I would love to put my nose on Tihota now!

Ooh vanilla is one of my favorite notes ever, and I firmly believe that Mona di Orio’s Vanille is the very best vanilla fragrance ever made.

I’ve finished two bottles of it, and I am rationing my third, because it’s so hard to come by these days. The description here is spot on – smoky, boozy, and a touch gourmand with a lovely orange note without becoming a full-on pudding trolley. Criminally underrated despite being the very best vanilla ever made.

I’ve also tried Tobacco Vanille, but my sister enjoyed it more, so I got her a bottle. Boozy, a touch ashy, and resinous, it’s definitely one of the most potent fragrances I’ve tried.

I’ve never tried Tihota, due to the limited distribution. I’d love to enter the draw for it. I live in the US.

  • I love complex vanillas, especially if they play with the deeper, dried fruit aspect of vanilla pods or spicy vanillas. I haven’t tried Tihota or the Mona Di Orio yet, but I’ve enjoyed all of the spicy Mona scents I’ve tried so far so the idea of the scent of a vanilla trade ship full of precious spices fascinates me. Vanillas and spiced vanillas are a comfort scent for me. I really enjoy finding good quality ones – and I’m really not a fan of the vanillin ones on the market. I’m excited to read more reviews in this series!

Tobacco Vanille is an old friend of mine, I wear it often in cooler weather when the sweetness isn’t overwhelming. I loved how this review told the story of how she fell in love with Tobacco Vanille after smelling it at a party! I’d like to enter the draw please, I’m from the US

  • Love the idea of not one but three-part vanilla series
Indult Paris Tihota was crafted from Francis Kurkgjian passionate belief in originality, so many of his creations paved the way for fragrances that emerged later on.
Tihota also embodies his ardent aspiration to capture the full spectrum of Tahitian Vanilla’s natural facets, and adding darker rich undertones like licorice, ripe fruits and chocolate.
Tobacco Vanille Tom Ford is arguably the most famous vanilla fragrance, when it came out immediately set the bar for an exotic fruity and spicy vanilla and tobacco fragrances.
I’m curious about what kind experience it is to smell Mona di Orio Vanille, something like being on a pirate ship maybe?
Thank you Olya Bar, Michelyn Camen , and also Indult Paris for the generosity

  • The whole Cafleurebon team i think accepts nothing nearly right or good enough , I was expecting the article to be great just by reading the title. My takeaway of Michelyn Camen and Olya Bar work with a quote

“When independent perfumer extraordinaire Mona di Orio imagined Vanille, she conjured a tale of an old ship bound for Madagascar or the Comoros Islands, loaded with treasures like rum barrels, oranges, vanilla beans, ylang-ylang, cloves, and sandalwood”

Now that’s impressive , judging by the detailed information Olya Bar honest opinions, and how ecstatic she is describing Tihota, Tobacco Vanille and Mona di Orio Vanille all makes me feel 3 free will sophisticated vanilla fragrances are already on the market. Tobacco Vanille i own for years, Indult Paris Tihota and Mona di Orio Vanille I’ll definitely try.
It’s worth nothing the three fragrances are on the market for a long time, still admired and sought for, that’s remarkable .
Panna cotta with ripe fruits, buttery natural Tahitian vanilla, Tihota whiteout a doubt is an addictive gourmand .
The treasure chest Mona di Orio Vanille is a gutsy vanilla with dark aged rum , crushed orange and leather. Thank you

  • Traveling is my thing , and I hope one day I’ll be lucky enough to visit Tahiti’s vanilla production farms and to have an old ship trip to Madagascar loaded with treasures like rum barrels, oranges, vanilla beans and spices.
I’m new to both Indult Paris and Mona di Orio but Olya Bar convinced me that I need to explore as much as possible of the fragrances from their catalogs, not just Tihota and Vanille.
Tihota gentle fruity and buttery vanilla and chocolate gourmand appeal , together with the cane sugar combination comes as a reminder of how such undeniably original fragrances are created , they pave the way of many others that emerge after. The thing is Tihota is the originator
Even though I love Tobacco Vanille to me it is heavy on tobacco fragrance, on my skin there’s little to no vanilla or dry fruits.
Mona di Orio have built unorthodox vanilla fragrance from ground zero , admirable approach. Even both Olya Bar and Michelyn Camen are thrilled by Vanille novelty smell.

    Hello from UK
All nuances of Olya Bar and Michelyn Camen Vanilla Icons journey do have a familiar tune , creativity, novelty approach and 3 great fragrances that emerged 13+ years ago, but still going strong.
The insightful introduction to Tahitian Vanilla had another angle added to Tihota review ,I enjoyed learning about how it’s a hybrid of two species, vanilla and tahitensis.
I’d love to win Tihota based on Olya Bar sterling work and my previous experience with Indult Paris, delighted owner of Isvaraya , I’m envisioning excellence once again.Jovoy UK boutique in Mayfair is my go-to place to shop niche fragrances , the place I bought Isvaraya. The fragrance is also made by Francis Kurkgjian.
If you ask 100 Tobacco Vanille owners which version they prefer, the vintage one or the currently available on the market at least 99 , most likely 100 will tell you the vintage Tobacco Vanille is so much better.
Mona di Orio Vanille is an olfactory journey that captures the essence of a different kind of vanilla , more bolder variety.
    Thank you so much

Recently I followed Redolessence advice to subscribe and participate in a giveaway, and I’m glad I keep discovering new and interesting great smelling fragrances on your blog.
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille is in my possession, Indult Paris Tihota and Mona di Orio Vanille I’m not familiar with.
In my view Tihota is a different, done to perfection pleasing vanilla fragrance, rich and buttery. It stands out with the total package of pleasing aroma , comforting appeal , beautiful presentation and Francis Kurkgjian being the perfumer.
The slightly animalic muskiness , boozy , smoky and leather bolder nuances of Mona di Orio Vanille are making the fragrance quite unique, Olya Bar even compared it to a magical potion.
    EU Thank you

  • I hate perfumes with a prominent vanilla note, it’s too gourmand, sweet and on my skin it becomes disgusting. However Francis Kurkdjian created one of my favorite perfumes of all time the unfortunately discontinued Absolue pour le soir so I think he might be the only person capable of making me love vanilla… What I liked in this text is: ” This fragrance celebrates the full spectrum of Tahitian Vanilla’s natural facets—a unique hybrid of two species, vanilla, and tahitensis.” because I don’t know the true natural smell of this variety of vanilla and it intrigues me… I live in France, EU.

  • Wow, this review really speaks to me! I love the idea of Aloeae being more than just a fragrance – it sounds like a total mood, like a soft reset for the soul. The aloe vera, bamboo, and peppermint combo seems so refreshing and calming, especially during times when life feels a bit too much. I can imagine how the green notes with that warm, musky cashmere wood base would feel grounding and soothing at the same time. And that drydown? A comforting whisper in the ear? Yes, please! I’m all about fragrances that evolve and end up feeling like a cozy embrace. Looks like I’ve found my new go-to scent for those reflective autumn moments.

  • I enjoyed the co-curation as well as the idea of the 3 part series. I also liked that they chose like they said in the beginning not these super sweet vanillas but special ones. I’ve not tried any not even Tobacco Vanille. But I’ve heard of them all, love the sound of the Mono Di Orio. I’ve heard lots about Tihota as a reference vanilla over the years and would love to try it. Thanks for the generous draw. From CT USA.

  • Utmost respect for Michelyn Camen and Olya Bar Cafleurebon duo for having high standards , yet do not forget to spread niche and indie perfume magic to the world

《But before this sugary takeover, vanilla had a different vibe—a richer, deeper allure crafted for those who knew better. This isn’t about the trend-chasers; this is a story of vanilla’s untamed past, where she ruled with sophistication and an edge》

Reading the article made me think of how very few people in general know such beautiful vanilla creations , I’m so thankful Redolessence invitation brought me to Cafleurebon 🙂
Not only Indult Paris Tihota is made with natural Tahitian vanilla, it’s made by Francis Kurkgjian , he engendered so many magnificent fragrances. Keeping in mind Olya’s zealous examination of Tihota i know some splendid work once again , refined elaborate vanilla fragrance with dark undertones I really like to win.
My impressions of Tobacco Vanille are pretty much the same , the fragrance is intoxicating in many ways even though weaker than it used to be 10 years ago.
No one would deny Mona di Orio Vanille sounds unique in dark , boozy , leathery and even slightly animalic ways.

It’s seems like both Olya Bar and Michelyn Camen do have a lot of past memories with Tihota, Tobacco Vanille and Vanille, and will keep forging new ones with pleasure .
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille i do know as expected , the two other brands Indult Paris and Mona di Orio and their beautiful fragrances Tihota are Vanille i just found about thanks to the co-curated vanilla picks.
Other than a gifted and renowned perfumer Francis Kurkgjian has always been thinking outside of the box, no wonder Indult Paris Tihota is a statement maker. Tahitian Vanilla, ripe fruits, licorice are all favorites of mine , let alone how Olya Bar said it reminds her of panna cotta with real vanilla beans – wonderful fragrance.
Mona di Orio Vanille is a fragrance coming straight out of One Thousand And One Nights book
Thank you very much Indult Paris and special thanks to Olya Bar and Michelyn Camen for the hard work

  • What great choices for a co curated niche vanilla perfumes list.
Tihota is a legend and I know it but have only a sample. Didn’t know it was two species of vanilla and tahitenes. Tobacco Vanille I have not tried or Mona Vanille although I have Violette Fumee, different bottle, but best violet ever. Hard to find and what a talented group of Perfumers I live in the USA

  • A lovely review that highlighted the way these three have earned their place at the top of the vanilla echelon – I enjoyed the magical realism of her descriptions.
This curated series is timely for me – I’ve entered into an inexplicably intense vanilla period where all I want to do is pour a bottle of vanilla extract on my skin.
    I am in the U.S.

  • All fragrances can tell a story, some are delicate and comforting like Indult Paris Tihota, other milestone celebrations worthy like Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille , some are passionate like Mona di Orio Vanille.
I have a keen interest in Tihota because of the delicious scent profile , natural Tahitian vanilla and Francis Kurkgjian . I find the blend of vanilla, caramel, ripe fruits mouthwatering.
If memory serves me well Tobacco Vanille is mostly tobacco and spices fragrance, with subtle sweetness. I guess it smells sweeter and boozy to Olya Bar.
I haven’t yet experienced fragrances made by Mona di Orio, I find Vanille interesting because of how develops , from aromatic, to nutty tasty sweet , to smoky leather and even animalic
    Thank you kindly EU

  • I was so not expecting such diverse vanilla read, so vivid and full of positive energy.Just finished reading the article, and I’m already excited about parts 2 and 3 .
Vast amount of people are praising Tihota from Indult Paris , now I know Olya Bar and Michelyn Camen are fans too. I’m all about addictive and original gourmands slightly floral and in a way similar to panna cotta, it’s time to find a sample.
Tobacco Vanille I smelled only on others, never on skin
I am careful in terms of animalic nuances of all types, but Olya reassurance calmed me down because Vanille from Mona di Orio is also boozy , sweet and smoky too.
Thank you for the whole vanilic experience.

Every fragrance enthusiast have smelled Tobacco Vanille, timeless classic.
It’s vital to me that Indult Paris Tihota is not a linear fragrance, but a complex beauty made by Francis Kurkgjian. The buttery Tahitian Vanilla, licorice, ripe fruits and chocolate altogether are setting the bar high for a vanilla fragrance.
    Many thanks , UK

  • I am a true vanilla fan girl! I love how the article demonstrates how vanilla can take on very different qualities in a fragrance. Vanilla can go head first into a sugar bomb or it can take a seductive and mysterious turn! I love how perfumers take us on a journey and if we are lucky we get to experience a true masterpiece!

  • Interesting vanilla selections. Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille is my baseline for popular vanilla fragrances; too sweet for my tastes, but an often imitated design. Of course, compared to “sugar bomb” and cupcake fragrances, it’s a rich and boozy vanilla. Mona di Orio Vanille sounds more compelling to me, capturing so many nuances of vanilla, plus the animal leather in base sounds terrific.

    I’m in the USA.

  • One of the biggest advantages of Cafleurebon is that all the information makes you wonder, especially learning in details of such multidimensional vanilla fragrances like Indult Paris Tihota, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and Mona di Orio Vanille.
Since I enjoyed everything I read I’m not sure where should even start with. Should I start with Tahitian Vanilla origin, panna cotta with real vanilla beans and Tihota similarities and superstar perfumer like Francis Kurkgjian? Or maybe how Olya Bar discovered Tobacco Vanille in the South of France and cherishing her vintage bottle? Or the pirate ship experience with Mona Di Orio Vanille with aromatic oranges, sensual leather and dark aged rum?
All allowed Olya Bar to portrait the 3 iconic vanilla fragrances the best way possible .

I like how Olya Bar suggested that people should be savor Tobacco Vanille and aged scotch.
Some Madagascar vanilla , some rum , brown sugar and ylang-ylang, Mona di Orio Vanille is irreplaceable fragrance coming out of a treasure chest.
    Much appreciated. From EU

  • Indult Paris Tihota and Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille both have a cult following in the fragrance community , Mona di Orio Vanille and in general I have no experience with.
Tihota is not only is inspired by Tahitian Vanilla, a hybrid of two species vanilla and tahitensis, do possess a natural smell , elaborate gourmand with warm and comforting tales to tell.
I’ve heard people calling Tobacco Vanille boozy, personally I perceive it in a different way, more dry powdery with Cuban cigars memories in my mind.
Mona di Orio Vanille enchanting properties are so appealing, it’s smoky , boozy , leathery all at once.

I’m so lucky I caught this in time to comment. As a young perfumer who is slowly building momentum, I took a page immediately from Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille, moving to create my own tobacco scents from Pirique tobacco from American Spirit, digging deep into the chemistry of scent to figure out how to extract the scents from tobacco without extracting the nicotine which would stain the collars and cuffs of clients interested in the scent of my extractions. These reviews touched see to my heart, and brought back many memories of hopefully holding up the jar of authentic vanilla beans in the kitchen spices section of the grocery store, only to be met with a shake of the head and a bottle of cheap vanilla extract.

It was told to me that vanilla, real vanilla, that grows ever so slowly on the vanilla orchid, was too rich for my blood, like a beluga caviar or a 50 year scotch.

In my experience of being on my own, I experienced as a chef so many tastes of unparalleled finery, and found myself eating the caviar that was too rich for my blood, drinking the wine that rich, boozy guests brought into the restaurant, stubbornly insisting because of the cost that they would open it themselves, then immediately tossing the five hundred dollar bottle at the wait staff like plate scraps because they ground up the cork in the bottle.

Tired after cooking up a storm with my comrades, I marched victoriously upstairs to do the dishes from the evening rush at this jewel of a restaurant. We brought the bottle with us, the young servers laughing giddily as I poured them both a glass, using mesh filter to remove the cork.

Now as I sit in a perfume room, about to make another larger batch of my own vanilla scent, which contains expensive, exotic human pheremones purchased from research labs, my eyes bleary from reading medical journals about human pheremones. I immediately combined this mix of intoxicating, sugary vanilla with an ample amount of musk, an exclusive musk produced by hand via cold enfleurage. The scent that hits my face plays a game of hide and seek with the basil flowers from my garden drying in the other room, destined to be macerated in my other scent favorite, Eastern Sun, featuring my favorite scent now, Oud.

Ultrazur adds a splash of seawater, making us feel the waves and the ocean. You can smell the sea breeze mixed with the bourbon vanilla, candy vanilla, Madagascar vanilla, and smoky deep dark vanillas. The assortment of the vanillas and the marriage of the sea breeze like Poseidon the sea-god meeting with Hera in an illicit affair, stealthily behind the back of Zeus leads my clients into a long list of people waiting to obtain just a few drops of the elixir, aptly named Mermaid Tears.

I would be just as excited to have the assortment of vanillas I just read a description of as I would be to have my own elixir in my pocket.

Alas, the people who want to smell the urgent beckoning of the mermaid tears add up every day, and my work is again, cut out for me. Thanks to Caefleurebon for the read and the giveaway.

I’ve never tried any of these three, they all seem classic gourmand, no odd deviation from what one would expect from a vanilla centric perfume.

I am excited that there will be a three-part series on vanilla, one of my favorite notes. I used to wear vanilla extract when I couldn’t afford perfume. I have tried Tobacco Vanilla and it definitely is a modern masterpiece. I agree with Olya about its scent trail. I would like to try Mona di Orio Vanilla because of the crushed orange note. Tihota’s sounds like a comforting vanilla, one that is addictively gourmand.

  • Olya’s review of *Indult Paris Tihota*, *Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille*, and *Mona Di Orio Vanille* is an inspiring look into the timeless allure of vanilla. I loved how she captured the deep, rich, and evolving nature of this ingredient, moving beyond its current “sugar bomb” reputation to highlight its complexity and sophistication. Each fragrance has its own unique take on vanilla—from the creamy, gourmand warmth of *Tihota* to the bold, boozy allure of *Tobacco Vanille*, and the magical, smoky depth of *Mona Di Orio Vanille*. The evocative imagery of the perfumes really drew me in, especially the journey Olya described with each spritz. The co-curation with Michelyn truly showcases vanilla’s lasting impact on niche perfumery. It’s clear that these fragrances offer something more than just sweetness—they are rich in history, depth, and emotion.

I’m excited to explore these scents myself and see how they reveal vanilla’s true character.

  • I do love this comparison type of review, and would certainly like a continued series. Of these three vanillas I’ve tried one and love it (Tobacco Vanille), know of one and have been dying to try it (Tihota), and have heard of for the first time just now (Mona di Orio Vanille). The description of the latter being something from my perfume dreams! I want those deranged senses! Definitely going to be looking for a sample of this one.

  • Vanilla is such a sweet staple that is almost always welcome and is truly a safe note. It’s hard to go wrong with vanilla and here you have compositions with richer, natural ingredients and very well blended compositions. The tihota has a unique and somewhat streamline note breakdown that sounds straight up delicious. Would love to own this bad boy for the upcoming fall. From Jacksonville, NC.

  • Captivating introduction to vanilla and enthusiastic co-curated list , job well done to Michelyn and Olya duo .
I can’t help but to be impressed how Indult Paris Tihota, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and Mona di Orio Vanille are 10+ years old, but still relevant and cherished by perfume enthusiasts.
Francis Kurkdjian was able to achieve so much , there is a reason why most of the things he touches turns into gold , Tihota is a great example. I find the fragrance delightful for the Tahitian Vanilla on one part , and panna cotta with real vanilla teasing by Olya on the other.
Tobacco Vanille needs no discussion, an icon that’s still very good, but not as powerful as it used to be.
Santal Nabataea is a fragrance i own , Vanille I’d most likely never try because unfortunately the house of Mona di Orio perished recently.

  • Vanilla is king! I love how the three selected are very different sounding but showcase vanilla in a unique way! Would love to add one to my collection

  • Since Fall is upon us the time for powerful and complex vanilla fragrances has come.
If you into high end fragrances you know Tobacco Vanille and Tihota, Mona di Orio I know by name but have no experience with.
So a unique hybrid of two species, vanilla and tahitensis? Love the extra detail of Tahitian Vanilla’s natural. Tihota is a welcoming fragrance wrapping you in buttery embrace.
I dried up multiple Tobacco Vanille bottles during the years, i don’t have vintage bottles and I spray myself freely.
Mona di Orio Vanille feels naughty and adventurous at the same time, the dark aged rum rimmed with crushed oranges and animalic muskiness is a potion i like to try.
    Exciting giveaway, USA

  • All 3 fragrances picked by Olya and Michelyn are classics every fragrance lover absolutely needs to know. I know all 3 , and I’ll share my thoughts and compare them with what Olya is getting.
Tihota by Indult Paris, composed by Francis Kurkdjian in indeed one of the most sought-after niche vanilla fragrances, often out of stock because of the high demand. I too get something floral, most likely tuberose in the background together with the buttery vanilla. What I also get , i i guess Olya doesn’t is the sugar-coated almonds.
The sole reason you can read multiple different options on Tobacco Vanille, other than the personal preferences of course, is the fact that the fragrance went through multiple reformulations since it came out in 2007. I’m a Tom Ford fan boy, and I have a few Tobacco Vanille bottles ,and side by side there are noticeable differences between them. Newer ones are more sweet, with more pronounced vanilla and dried fruits sweetness that smells a bit like honey.
Unfortunately Mona di Orio is no longer with us, and it’s a shame that the brand is gone now. The website has been down for 6 months maybe, but I hope there will be someone that would potentially revive Mona di Orio as a brand.

“Every drop of this elixir feels like a magical potion as if it were discovered in an ancient treasure chest. We hold it close to our hearts, knowing it is truly irreplaceable.”

I know you meant something else, but your vintage bottles , like the one on the 1st and 4th pictures are literally irreplaceable, because the price is now ~$800 on Ebay.

My love affair with vanilla goes back in time, I well remember vanilla pods from my childhood when grandma used to bake different pastries a couple of times per week.
Olya Bar assessment of Indult Paris Tihota brought a lot of memories up , carefree times i miss so much , being a kid and eating grandma’s panna cotta. I became instantly attracted to the comforting smell of Tihota, together with carefully selected by Francis Kurkdjian Tahitian Vanilla and other deeper shades .
Tobacco Vanille to me is a Christmas time only fragrance , and Mona di Orio Vanille is for more opportunistic and maybe slightly playful.
Sum total love the read , and I’d like to win a bottle of Tihota . Thanks a million

There are sophisticated fragrances , there are stories , guilty pleasures, adventures and dreams here and I’m loving it. Redolessence was right all along, should’ve been a Cafleurebon member for months now.
Vanilla is the Queen , I love vanilla pastries just like I love vanilla fragrances. What i enjoyed overall is the tone of Best Vanille Niche Perfume read , Olya Bar grabbed my attention right away. In Indult Paris Tihota i enjoyed Francis Kurkdjian made soothing panna cotta with real vanilla beans smell , in Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille the boozy and resinous festive sensation, and in Mona di Orio Vanille the unconventional bewitching smell. Thank you very much

  • To Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief and Olya Bar , ladies I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Mona di Orio house no longer exists.
Since I’ve been a fan for many years i believe Mona di Orio legacy lives on , but when it comes to the fragrance house… well the fragrance house no longer exists . Bottles of Oudh Osmanthus , Ambre, Santal Nabataea and Vanille are in my possession, and I’ve been lucky enough early 24′ (or it was late 23′) when I went to the local boutique that has been the official distributor of Mona di Orio fragrances over here , the fragrances were heavily discounted and I was told to stock up and I did , because they are not coming back.
On the positive side I love the vanilla article, the enjoyment of life and delightful vanilla fragrances is something we all share between us .I like how you included extra information about Tahitian Vanilla , the lavish lifestyle party in South of France , and the old ship bound for Madagascar or Comoros Islands inspiration behind Mona di Orio Vanille.
Indult Paris Tihota sounds beautiful, Tahitian Vanilla with succulent fruits , caramel and chocolate I almost started drooling
Original Tom Ford collection, not just Tobacco Vanille are really good.

    Thank you for the effort

I loved Olya’s review, Michelyn’s and Olya’s co-curations on 3 of the best Vanilla Fragrances on the market. I agree that Vanilla is one of the most popular fragrance notes and scent profiles in perfumery. That warm and cozy quality can brighten any day. Indult Paris Tihota perfumed by Francis Kurkdjian continues to be one of the most popular Vanillas on the market. Tobacco Vanille is a modern classic with the combination of raw tobacco leaf and vanilla. I haven’t tried Mona Di Orio Vanille, but I’m truly captivated by how Olya describes it. I am from the USA.

  • I love the Vanilla series and I’m already anticipating part 2 and 3. Olya Bar reviews I enjoyed very much , from the comforting facets of Indult Paris Tihota to the contrasting elements in Mona Di Orio Vanille, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille I actually own.
Tihota is more appealing to me because of panna cotta with real vanilla beans aroma , and as Francis Kurkdjian fan I’m pleased to learn he used premium vanilla out of Tahiti , and he made the fragrance addictive, rich and buttery. Thanks to Olya Bar, and best of luck to all participants
