Headspace Parfums Tabac (Julien Rasquinet) 2025 + Soft Haze of Darkness Giveaway.

Tabac Headspace extrait

Headspace Parfums  just released a quintet of extraits all composed by one of my favourite perfumers, Julien Rasquinet. Each extrait is bottled in a minimalist 50ml size adorned with a black label, keeping the same flacon design as the 100ml eau de perfume bottles. The new extrait 50ml flacons each hold one of the iconic ingredients used in perfumery, in this case tobacco.  But Tabac’s headspace element, coffee beans giving this classic a twist. Headspace Parfums Tabac sets itself apart from the other tobacco fragrances  out there as Julien Rasquinet sets a mood and composes a head-space where Tabac’s story reveals itself slowly, like an intriguing novel that is hard to put down.

Liquorice glows with ginger spice; it’s like inhaling a spark with a soft char of smooth rounded clove sizzling like an ember. A match struck with a gentle metallic zing, its spices shimmer as the enveloping scent of freshly brewed black coffee joins the air as you exhale into a room darkened with the aroma of open bags of coffee beans and letting the of previous cups of coffee still haunting the space around you merge into one. Headspace Parfums Tabac draws you in, wrapping you in its inviting aura as woody vanilla facets tempt you with a creamy sweetness. Dry nutty aromas with subtle leathery undertones give Tabac a mysterious allure (who’s that stranger dressed in dark tones sitting in the corner)? It’s hard to keep your eyes and nose off this visitor as more facets are slowly revealed. Tabac has a warmth you want to sink into, like a black cup of coffee, yet that suave aloofness eludes us, making us want to know it more.

Tabac’s golden glow is irresistible as it starts to dry down, it’s a familiar feel yet one I can’t get enough of. One of my favourite things to do in the past, back  when I smoked was to sit in or rather outside coffee shops and read a book enjoyed with a coffee and cigarette (P.S. I still enjoy this sans cigarettes, smoking is bad for you kids!). Julien Rasquinet has captured that memory for me here in Tabac, he sketches the soft aromas that swirl around a coffee shop as fresh beans are ground and extracted for their dark delight, as the conversations soften into a murmur as you get lost in the pages of your book letting the gentle aromas of fresh cigarettes and coffee wash over you. Tonka bean and hay conjure a stunning tobacco texture as if you’re reaching into a pouch about to roll a cigarette, there’s a soft dry rolling papery feel that’s gives a lovely contrast to the almost powdery tobacco from hay and velvety tonka bean that pushed more vanillic.

The ginger from the opening gets creamier as it’s stirred like milk into the tonka bean that teases out some of its gingerbread warmth. Think of the velvety texture of a latte’s foam as it touches your lips and you will know how Tabac feels on your skin and in the air around you.  There’s a dark flowing warm  sensation enveloping you, drawing you in as get lost in your book drowning out the afternoon’s noise. A dusting of chocolate whispers as more vanilla is revealed, letting the subtle tobacco leaf smoke keep you warm like your favourite leather jacket. You sense the soft ember of clove still burning deep, darkened but not ashy. Tabac keeps that delicious fresh tobaccos cigarillo feel throughout the wear.

More coffee aromas are released like a new bag has been torn open, you feel it’s presence softly, like it’s in the air, rather than having your nose in the bag. Subtle floral aromas add to the quiet complexity with flickers of stone fruits off in the distance. The openings nuttiness is smoothed out by the creamy tonka bean and vanilla with a kiss of caramel giving Tabac a soft ambery feel. Julien Rasquinet uses ambroxan in a rather clever way here, not only for its cosy warmth but also it gives a stunning atmosphere to Tabac. It has a subtle density that gives weight to the composition, that beautiful mix of steam and coffee as it merges with smoke as fresh coffee is brewed. Tonka bean gives Tabac a suave feel, hinting at Fougères, I sense a touch of a lavender aromatic freshness haunting the rich tobacco and woody vanilla aroma. The hay enhances this feeling while making Tabac glow on my skin.

Tabac doesn’t shout, rather it wraps you and those around in a dark, relaxed  cloud, one that’s comforting yet rich with a reassuring endless depth you want to sink into. It makes me feel at home when I wear it, something which I’ve been doing all lot since I received it; it feels like me, my memories and also how I’d like to be perceived. It’s cozy and sweet yet with an allure of mystery cloaked in a soft haze of coffee darkness. Beautiful work by Julien Rasquinet- classy, refined and suave.

Notes: Anise, Ginger, Cloves

  • “Soft haze of coffee darkness” – my kind of thing. Love Headspace!

    I’m in WI, the U.S.

  • Tabac is tobacco forward with hay elevating the tobacco note imparting a dry, paper-like quality to the tobacco–combined with coffee, gives Tabac a twist–like opening a fresh bag of dark roast and inhaling its invigorating essence; the coffee note imbues it with a nutty aroma combined with Liquorice, a woody vanilla, a touch of caramel, imparting a creamy sweetness, a subtle leathery undertone and ginger spice. Tabac has a rich, comforting warmth, allure and mystery that envelops and embraces the wearer. A great scent for fall and winter.

Tobacco is an acquired taste in my opinion in fragrances. A lot of the backlash it gets it’s because maybe those around you think you’re a smoker if it’s too strong and up front. However, with this scent it’s done in a more tasteful way. The vanilla, ambrox and Tonka bean give it that touch that this is a scent and not a vice. I also appreciate J saying this is not a loud fragrance but more cozy and enveloping around you, giving a mysterious aura. The coffee note should also be mentioned because it’s perfect for the fall season. I am in the headspace to wear Tabac. I’m located in the US.

  • Brad Woolslayer says:

Headspace Parfums Tabac sounds like a wonderful fragrance for fall and winter. Tobacco, tonka bean, coffee, and ginger are all notes that I love in the cooler weather. I like that J describes it as cozy and sweet, with an allure of mystery cloaked in a soft haze of coffee darkness. I live in Maryland USA.

  • J’s review of Tabac really pulled me in. I’m a big fan of Julien Rasquinet; his work always feels rich and full of character. I already own Fifty Four by Jusbox and Royal Oud by Creed, so I’m always on the lookout for niche scents that bring something special, especially for fall. What stood out in the article was how Tabac seems to balance warmth, smokiness, and a touch of sweetness in a way that feels cozy but still refined. It sounds like the kind of fragrance that tells a story, and I’d love to experience that for myself. Cheers from NY, USA.

  • Julien Rasquinet is one of my favourite perfumers, so I was really excited to read this. J’s description of the coffee and tobacco mix instantly pulled me in. I love scents that feel cosy and a little mysterious, like sitting in a cafe surrounded by the smell of roasted beans and warm air, one of my favourite perfumes is in fact Black Phantom. The way the ginger melts into tonka bean and vanilla sounds so smooth and comforting, perfect for colder days. I could almost picture that quiet coffee shop moment J described. I’m in the EU (Croatia).

  • The allure of an enjoyed moment involving a book, an unctuous cup of coffee, and a cigarette tugs at my heartstrings. Because I also remember the joys of those quiet vices in my 20s and the memory of once beloved clove cigarettes. I’m most intrigued by what the Anise, Clove, and Ginger can convey… But you truly had me at “velvety texture of a latte’s foam as it touches your lips” because that is my most relished morning every morning as I drink mine. Beautiful review, J!

  • I loved the tobacco note in Headspace’s Tuberose so I’m very excited to see an extrait focused on Tabac! I love Ginger, and was especially drawn to the comment that it makes you feel at home when wearing it.

    I live in the US.

  • The texture and tone of this sounds very intriguing. I’m used to tobacco being gourmand sweet with vanilla or rum, or loud abrasive “beast mode” concoctions. Once in a while you get a tobacco with a deft touch, Julien Rasquinet is an amazing perfumer, I think the anise, clove and a bit of coffee is what’s bringing me in even more. I’d love to try this and the Champaca especially. I am in the U.S.

  • This sounds a next level gourmand. A cozy wrapper would be welcome right now, this could be it. I’d love to win this to Germany, thank you for the draw!

  • Kassie Tocko says:

i really loved this review— i love those fragrances that make you feel home & apparently this fragrance does that for our writer… i loved the descriptiveness of the coffee shop, reading a book, & smoking a cigarette. reading this review put me there, watching them… embraced in the exact aromas- beautiful & comforting. this fragrance is complex & i love that- like peeling back the layers & discovering the depth- & depth is exceptional in fragrances, in my opinion. you have a little bit of everything from tobacco, to hay, to coffee, to florals, to vanilla, to the tonka. this fragrance is very intriguing & after reading this lovely review i am definitely adding this to my wishlist. thank you for the exceptional review- i enjoyed it very much & everything about the fragrance & your work interests me. again, thank you. beautiful piece. i am in the united states- colorado.

  • AromaAdventurer says:

J’s description of this fragrance is incredibly evocative. It’s not just another tobacco scent; it’s the capture of a specific, almost literary moment. The idea of a “soft haze of coffee darkness” that evokes the atmosphere of a coffee shop, the quiet comfort of a book, and the memory of fresh tobacco is what truly sparks my interest. It seems to focus less on the smoke itself and more on the entire sensory space and mood of contemplation. The notes of hay and the “soft dry rolling papery feel” suggest a texture that is utterly unique, providing a beautiful contrast to the creamy tonka bean and vanilla. This sounds like a scent built for introspection, a personal and comforting cloud that is both cozy and mysteriously alluring.

  • FragranceFrenzyS says:

The structural and textural composition of Tabac is what is most fascinating. The progression from the “metallic zing” of a struck match and “sizzling” clove into the velvety texture of a latte’s foam sounds like a masterclass in perfumery. The use of ambroxan not just for warmth, but to create an “atmosphere” and that “subtle density” of steam merging with coffee aroma is a brilliant conceptual use of a common material. Furthermore, the hint of a Fougère structure haunting the composition with an aromatic freshness adds a layer of classic suaveness to the modern headspace accord. It sounds incredibly sophisticated a fragrance to be appreciated for its clever construction as much as for its beautiful scent.

    I am from Germany, EU

  • Tobacco is one of my favorite notes in perfumes. Combined with coffee and spices, I believe this smells like heaven!

What sparks my interest based on J’s review is this: “Tabac doesn’t shout, rather it wraps you and those around in a dark, relaxed cloud, one that’s comforting yet rich with a reassuring endless depth you want to sink into.”

    Hugs from Croatia, EU ❤️

  • ianbradleyandrews says:

I love how it is described as a dark relaxed cloud. I love tobacco perfumes and love Julian’s work. This sound delightful and I’d love to win. I live in Indiana.

  • wonderscent.mari says:

So beautiful description, especially loved the mysterious allure of
the dry nutty aromas with the subtle leathery undertones of this coffee darkness of Tabac. This sounds like a fascinating fragrance. I imagined the whole atmosphere of a warmth and cozy coffee shop, the smell of fresh roasted coffee beans with a storytelling twist of tonka, woody vanilla, ginger while letting the subtle tobacco leaf smoke keep you warm like your favorite leather jacket as J described.
I also like the comment “It’s cozy and sweet yet with an allure of mystery cloaked in a soft haze of coffee darkness”.
So elegant and deeply comforting fall fragrance that captures time, place and memories. Would love to get my nose on this.
Appreciate the multifaceted review, and the giveaway.

  • The detail about the coffee shop memory really captured my heart. I also treasure quiet moments with coffee, a good book, and that specific tobacco aroma. What sparks my interest most is how Julien Rasquinet managed to make tobacco feel refined rather than overwhelming—the way the vanilla and tonka bean soften the tobacco leaf smoke sounds like exactly what I’ve been searching for. I’m in the EU

  • Ooh I love a licorice note! I’m getting more into ginger and clove, as well. I live in a colder climate and love warming spicy perfumes. New England, USA

  • Coffee and tobacco are two of my favorite scent profiles. Being enveloped in those notes along with the others to balance it out sounds like the perfect Fall day. Whether annoying time at a cafe as J describes or just relaxing at home (on the rare occasion that happens). This sounds absolutely comforting. And it reminds me I’m due for another cup of coffee. Cheers from Ohio, USA!

  • Great review, Mr. J! I love the work of Mr. Rasquinet, and even though I hate the smell of cigarettes and cigars, I’m fascinated by the use of tobacco in perfumery. Here, tobacco meets coffee, and this combination seems unmissable to me. The scent reminds Mr. J of the aromas that swirl around a coffee shop and the dark, relaxed, soft, flowing, warm sensation enveloping you from the opening coffee and ginger, the creamy tonka and vanilla, and the rich tobacco leaf. Not shouting, but a cozy scent. I live in Spain, EU.

  • “Tabac has a warmth you want to sink into…” — this right here did it for me. It’s one of my favourite notes in perfumery!
    I live in Italy, EU.

  • reyessence89 says:

J’s write-up instantly transported me to my time in Paris, specifically mornings in one of the outdoor markets near Père Lachaise. I can only imagine how magnified this transportive effect of J’s description of Tabac if I were also smelling it.
    I live in the US.

  • Julien Rasquinet is one of my favourite perfumers, while tobacco is my favourite note, so this must be a great scent for my taste. The coffee, liquorice and suave feel from the tonka bean are adding even more depth and coziness.
The brand is unknown to me and I would like to explore it further. From Bulgaria, EU.

  • The evocative “soft haze of coffee darkness” wrapping around cozy tobacco and tonka memories-like a quiet café escape-totally draws me in for fall introspection. I live in Poland, EU

  • What drew me in was the way this scent unfolds like a warm, familiar ritual with that creamy ginger opening. Haze of Darkness sounds inviting, steady, and effortlessly atmospheric, like losing yourself in a good book on a quiet afternoon. I’m in the US.

  • J’s description makes this sound very interesting. The opening of the anise with the ginger is intriguing. I’m also curious of the mixture of the tabaco with the coffee. J’s description clearly invokes images of sitting in a coffee house. This sounds like a fragrance I would like to explore. Located in the US.

  • The notes are really interesting and I think this is going to be great, more so knowing that it is created by Julien Rasquinet which is the nose behind some of my favorite fragrances. Thanks! EU

  • This combination of tobacco coffee ginger and tonka is making me feel like I’m on a date with my favorite friends in the darkest corner of a Greenwich village coffee shop. Magic and mystery.
Would love to try, love headspace!!
    I’m in NY

  • Julien Rasquinet’s work always captures a sense of place and mood, and J’s description of Tabac makes it sound like a quiet cinematic moment, with coffee, paper, tobacco, and the warmth of memory. I’m drawn to how the headspace of roasted coffee adds a modern dimension to classic tobacco, creating that lived-in intimacy without heaviness. The ginger-tonka interplay sounds addictive! I live in the U.S (New York) and would love the chance to experience this extrait.

  • The coffee and cig scenario resonates with me too, as I used to enjoy just that same thing, but the real kicker here is the feel/smell of fresh, unburnt cigarette tobacco: That is a smell I still like and I haven’t smoked for decades. This sounds like an amazing wear for the season! I live in the US.

  • John McDonald says:

You had me at classy warm and suave. I have only heard of this brand, never sniffed, but all of the notes mentioned in Tabac sound like it is a can’t miss.
If I don’t win this may be a blind buy.
Thanks to all for the giveaways.

  • This sounds like my type for sure. I’m imagining this sitting somewhere in between Meo Fusciuni Little Song with it’s coffee and Amouage Royal Tobacco with the liquorice. I love tobacco in fragrances. I’m in the USA.

  • liquidasset77 says:

Headspace is really turning heads with this phenomenal creation. It’s great to see one of my favorite indie brands team with one of my favorite perfumers and combine their passions on my favorite note in perfumery!! How about that as a trifecta? In Michigan

  • I love how J’s review evokes a rich sensory environment — “soft haze of darkness” hinting at a dual nature: something both enveloping and subtle. The framing of the scent as a “dark, hazy comforting cloud” piques me because it suggests a fragrance that isn’t simply bold and brash, but layered and intriguing.
Also, knowing that Tabac uses notes like espresso, ginger, hay, coffee, cloves, tobacco, vanilla, tonka, patchouli, osmanthus and leather makes me curious to explore how those ingredients interact in practice. From what I’ve tested before from this brand all scent have had a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ element to them.
Altogether, the review promises a mature, sophisticated scent journey — exactly the kind of complexity I look for. Very much looking forward to trying this one out.

Thanks for the review. Based in the EU

  • Tobacco, hay, ambroxan immediately call to mind Nathalie Lorson’s Un Air d’Apogee for Maison Violet. As a former smoker, I do find quiet comfort in smoke-filled scents, including Julien’s Bois d’Ascese for Naomi Goodsir. The coziness described by J. is what piques my interest the most.

Appreciate the opportunity. CA, USA based .

  • I appreciate that Tabac is not just a coffee fragrance but impressions of a coffee shop. There is the scent of the roasted beans, the tobacco and hay notes approximating the scent of cigarettes and the chocolate, vanilla and spice notes that denote a complex brew. The ambery tonka base brings some warmth and coziness. MD, USA

There are many notes in this particular offering that i’m drawn to in and of themselves. Coffee, hay, tobacco, ginger…just excellent notes. Put together, this seems like an intriguing fragrance. J more than adequately gave me a scent picture of the sense of warmth and mystery this fragrance conjures in the mind. I’d love to get my nose on this! Many thanks for the giveaway opportunity and blessings from Virginia, USA!

  • I so look forward to my coffee in the morning, sometimes in bed at night I think forward to the morning and my coffee. I don’t like the smoke of cigarettes, but when my father smoked I liked to smell the unlit Winston he smoked. J’s review was so atmospheric, I can smell and feel the coffee house, the warm mug, the crinkle of my library book, the whoosh of the milk steamer. This sounds like the perfect autumn and winter scent, I can’t wait to try it. Thank you for the wonderful review and generous draw, from the US.

  • crownroyale47 says:

Tabac feels like the kind of fragrance that was made for my rhythm. Rich, nuanced, and built for fall and winter in New York. Its blend of tobacco and roasted coffee captures everything I love about the season, that cozy aromatic warmth cutting through cold air as the city hums in the background. Julien Rasquinet turns it into an atmosphere, not just a scent, like stepping into a quiet café where the scent of beans and soft smoke linger in the air. It reminds me of my Sunday mornings, grabbing a latte and taking a slow moment before the city wakes up. Tabac has that same balance, smooth, grounded, and quietly magnetic, the kind of fragrance that feels like me.

I’m from the United States of course.

  • What an interesting tobacco fragrance with its spiced licorice opening and strong dose of coffee. I also like that the tobacco smoke is rich and natural, coaxed out of tonka, hay, and ambroxan. Most surprising is the “touch of a lavender aromatic freshness haunting the rich tobacco and woody vanilla aroma,” which really separates this from sweet tobacco fragrances, and surely makes it an easier wear in warm weather. I’d love to try this.

    I’m in the USA.

  • This sounds absolutely delicious!
What I really liked from J’s review is ” Headspace Parfums Tabac sets itself apart from the other tobacco fragrances out there as Julien Rasquinet sets a mood and composes a head-space where Tabac’s story reveals itself slowly, like an intriguing novel that is hard to put down. ”

  • Regis Monkton says:

I would like to try Headspace Parfums Tabac. I can like fragrances which have the combination of notes: hay, tobacco, and black pepper (or some other spice), and Headspace Parfums Tabac seems like it’s at least somewhat in that realm, only they use cloves and ginger for the spiciness. I think I can understand why J says it’s hinting at Fougères, and I’d like to see how the coffee is in this kind of scent. Count me in. I live in the USA.

  • I love how Tabac captured a memory for J around a coffee shop with freshly ground beans, warm cream, and yes, the smell of cigarettes. I have a few of the same memories from days long gone. Imagine retrieving them through this fragrance. Thanks for the opportunity to relive some of my youth. I am in the USA.

I’m happy Tabac was chosen out of the 5 in the collection. I always enjoy reading J’s reviews. I like the way J describes the notes in Tabac. I want to re-live my coffeeshop/diner days when I would spend hours smoking drinking coffee, reading, and writing in my notebook. The ginger and tonka notes sound fresh, smooth and ambery. I’d love to wear Tabac this autumn.
    I live in the USA.

  • This sounds amazing. Yes, smoking is bad, I think it also messes with your sense of smell so it is double bad. Love that it has a dusting of chocolate. I don’t have a lot of experience with tobacco fragrances, but I’d love to start with this. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • Right up my alley. A smoky and subtle wear that engulfs it’s wearer with a special shroud of class. The tabac and other elements gives me a vision of someone winding down in the study after smoking while reading a good book. It’s drab character and dry elements sound like something I would enjoy and it sets one apart from the popular designers and sweet fall and winter scents. Would like to win. From USA

  • Thank you for the giveaway and for introducing the new Headspace Parfums “Tabac” by Julien Rasquinet 2025 — the mix of coffee-bean headspace with tobacco, ginger and vanilla sounds so rich and atmospheric. I’d love to explore that soft haze of darkness you mention. I’m based in India. Fingers crossed!
