Gucci Mémoire d’une Odeur Review (Alberto Morillas)+ Fragrance and Fashion Draw

GUCCI memoire d'Une Odeur review

Gucci Mémoire d’une Odeur images, Harry Styles is the new spokesperson for the fragrance wearing a Gucci suit at the AMA, Alessandro Michele the Gucci Creative Director, 1970s Gucci Fashion ad 1970s, Vanessa Redgrave carry a bamboo Gucci bag on the set of Blow Up, Sebastian’s Bottle of Gucci Memoire d’Une Odeur, Perfumer Alberto Morillas and Roman Chamomile (collage by Michelyn images from Gucci,  tumblr, and Sebastian)

Designer Fragrances and fashion have gone together since the days of  such luminaries as Lucien Lelong, Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli.  Vastly different, they had in common  employing great perfumers and  staying true to the brand vision.  Back in the 70s, Gucci was on a luxury par with Louis Vuitton, and worn by most nearly every well-dressed man and woman who could afford  to buy the brand.  Then it too a nose dive and cheap imitations could be found on every street corner in NYC ‘s  Lower East Side. The house lost its cache.  I found my horsebit black  gold studded suede clogs from the late 80s (or early  90s) in the back of my closet and wore them recently to a party.  I got so many compliments it was crazy; I think a decade ago they would have attracted sneers not cheers. Over the past two years, Creative Director Alessandro Michele has breathed new life into the once troubled house of Gucci, (for me in perfume it was with Gucci Bloom).  The new Gucci Mémoire d’une Odeur was composed by Alberto Morillas (Gucci Bloom) and is an offbeat ode to chamomile, the 70s and niche perfume.

  • Wayne Alley says:

I like how Sebastian describes the scents and how he gives you the information without bias.

  • Hi how are you doing you are great in perfume review you doing well in review thanks am in U S A

  • I love the vintage look of the bottle and Sebastian’s description of the notes. The Roman chamomile and the special jasmine sound intriguing! One memorable Gucci fragrance is Rush. I live in the USA.

I think this is a really bold move by a designer. Especially using a spokesperson who appeals to younger people and doing a fragrance that is very different from the top sellers right now. Very interesting.

I’m also glad to see Gucci returning to intriguing form with their newest scents (well, at least Guilty Absolute Pour Homme + now this); I smelled this is the store the other day and found it unique but pleasing and wearable. I enjoyed Sebastian’s connection to a “CDG feel” and how smelling this scent transported him back to smelling those unique scents for the first time. I agree that the aesthetic isn’t too far off from the gauzy/diffuse/avant garden nature of CDG. I do covet the unique patterns and vintage sensibilities in Gucci’s collection from 2008! I walked by the stores a lot that season and wished I could afford some of those lovely retro silk shirts. Thanks for the draw! I’m in the US.

Really liked how he personalized what memory the fragrance reminded him of and how unique the designer fragrance is in today’s world .

  • I like the video because he told me about the creative director at Gucci. I have smelled Gucci Bloom and I said to myself “ Gucci is in the right track”. I have loved Gucci every since the late 80’s.

  • Like Sebastian, I also like to purchase fragrances when I go traveling. It serves to remind me of my trip as a ‘memory of an odor’. The Gucci fragrance sounds interesting as a Roman Chamomile and musk blend.

  • Very interesting to know that a note can be exclusive to any one house, namely, Indian Coral Jasmine.

  • I love that Sebastien is very passionate about fragrances you can tell he really enjoys talking about these great fragrances. I remember I knew a girl who wore Gucci Guilty and every time she wore it I could smell it from like 10 feet away and id be like aay!!!! Gucci? and shes like Gucci. lol awhile after that I saw a commercial for Gucci Guilty on Spotify with Jared Letto it was weird and yet Awesome and now I Love Gucci fragrances!

I liked how Sebastian’s review was practical and down-to-earth, especially when he described the situations in which he would wear MEMOIRE D’UNE ODEUR. He made me curious about what makes the fragrance unique because the notes sound sort of ordinary and familiar. I have never worn a Gucci fragrance, but my favorite Gucci moment is whe the brand was starting to get a tacky reputation and some wiseasses started selling t-shirts that said “Goochy.”

  • Cornelius Thompson says:

My favorite Gucci moment would be shopping in London, England for some Gucci clothing. I was in need of a couple of clothing items because of a college class. I had never shopped Gucci. The experience of shopping Gucci is one I will never forget.

I enjoyed Sebastian description of Gucci Memoire d’ une Oduer because of his use of a metallic odor that played on a chamomile tea fragrance.

  • I love and own vintage Eau de Gucci. I also love Bloom. I really like vintage Rush. I’m in USA. I like how Sebastian talked about when his “nose palate” was not developed. Some things are an acquired taste for sure.

  • I like that Gucci is finally going back to being an original house. They’ve been releasing so much mediocre stuff after Tom Ford left. Guilty Absolute seemed to be more of a step forward than I imagined. Itself an amazing scent. Morillas is on a roll here. Sebastian makes it sound like the house is going in nichelike territory, esp since it made him think of an experimental designer like CdG.
Gucci horsebit loafers are my fav shoe design ever.
Im in the US. Thanks for the draw.

  • I appreciate the reflective nature of this fragrance. It’s light, wispy, and musky, which makes it quite easy to wear any time of the year. I also like how Sebastian emphasizes its unique characteristics in this current market of fragrances that smell so very similar. (Commenting from USA)

I love hearing about the fragrance taking Sebastian back to his 1990’s memories. Interested to check this one out.

  • I always enjoy sebastians reviews. I’m intrigued because he mentioned the chamomile note and that Gucci is going away from trends. I’ve actually never worn a gucci scent but would like to try this. Thanks. From CT USA.

  • I like the smell of camomile, and I like vintage. This has a lot of promise. “Clean, fresh and musky”. I don’t have a favorite Gucci fashion or fragrance moment. US

  • Sebastian’s way with words makes this fragrance sound amazing! I always loved vintage Gucci handbags. USA. Thanks for the draw.

  • Sabastian’s reviews are always so evocative. Odors are so tied to memories. I have several versions of Carhtusia’s Mediterraneo and they all bring me back to Capri.

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

I’m one of few who likes Gucci Guilty. Curious to try this one given Sebastian’s excellent review. Seems like a juice I would enjoy.

  • I LOVE the smell of this new Gucci fragrance! I was just in Bloomingdales yesterday and got a chance to test it out. But I didn’t get a sample to go home with. I’d love to be able to try it a couple of times. It really does smell lovely. Very gentle and calming. I love that chamomile note! And I really enjoy Sebastian’s take on it, as well.
    I live in the US.

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

Have it, love it. This is one of those strongly polarizing scents that come along every so often. Kudos to Gucci for stepping off the beaten path. Not entering, just wanted to say–the advice of ‘try before you buy’ really applies in this case, and don’t let those who tested only on paper sway your decision to give this one a chance.

  • Enjoyed Sebastian’s review as always. He breaks down the fragrance in such a specific way. This sounds like a most interesting scent with both the chamomile and the jasmine. Many thanks for a great review and a generous draw. I’m in the USA

  • Desean Tucker says:

I enjoyed that he went in-depth about what the fragrance reminded him of, and it was a great story. He also seemed really honest about how he felt about the fragrance.

  • I always appreciate Sebastians review. He gives nothing but the best reviews IMO. Gucci Memoire Dune Odeur sounds really amazing with Chamomile. I think since Chamomile is calming and people had dealt with the war and crazy 60s. The 70s said just put calm scents in the fragrance. Gucci Envy is my favorite from the house and is a fragrance moment in my life when I wore it…so sad its discontinued. I live in USA. Thanks for the draw.

  • Haven’t tried many Gucci fragrances. Recently acquired Pour Homme II. A nice scent but not a love yet. Like to try this one out. Enjoyed the review by Sebastian. Thanks, US

  • Michael Prince says:

Sebastian is right the new creative director of Gucci has been coming out with some good fragrances lately. It’s amazing how certain “odors” or fragrances can be associated with memories of past events. This fragrance sounds like a pleasant, clean, aromatic fragrance. I know my wife enjoys my Gucci by Gucci fragrance that I own…I have no other Gucci memories I can think of. I am from the USA.

  • Loved Sebastian’s review as always. chamomile and musk! With a great musky herbal vibe, sounds like a winner for me. I have not worn any of the Gucci fragrances. I would love to try. Thank you! Usa.
