Goldfield and Banks Silky Woods Elixir (Olivier Cresp and Hamid Merati-Kashani) 2024 +Rich Sensuality Giveaway

Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods Elixir

Over the last few years perfume brands have been investing heavily on constructing their take on vanilla and this doesn’t seem like lessening anytime soon. We have been treated to rich array of iterations where perfumers have showcased powdery, rich and darker scents with Bourbon and Madagascan vanillas used not as supporting elements rather taking center stage. Goldfield & Banks launched their original Silky Woods which has received acclaim from fragrance lovers the world over and they waited with bated breath when it was whispered that an elixir of Silky Woods was due for release earlier this year.

Both Cresp and Merati-Kashani are known for their gourmand creations, the former’s Akro Bake and the latter’s Parfums De Marly Althair spring to mind. For their new collaboration Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods Elixir Silky Woods Elixir, the theme is centered around excess and that is clearly evident once I spritzed the scent. Founder and Creative Director Dimitri Weber has not held back with Silky Woods Elixir. The brief was to create a dark and extreme perfume expressing the natural surroundings of Australia notably exotic botanicals, verdant foliage and rich sensuality.

Whilst the original Silky Woods is warm and luxurious from the outset, its counterpart (Elixir) moves into a completely different direction. Here we are greeted with a sense of damp, mossy notes which are reminiscent of a dewy morning in forestry. The fig is prominent to my nose and on my skin the Peru Balsam and trio of Agarwood, Guaiac and Oud Assafi also come to the fore. My senses also pick out a synthetic patchouli note which must be the Clearwood© (Firmenich) which to my nose is highly dosed in Silky Woods Elixir.

During the first hour, the use of saffron and Ambroxan gave me an ‘Aha’ moment so lovers of these notes will chime with Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods Elixir. The second hour into wearing brings a warmth as the vanilla and orris play pivotal roles as the scent heats up and becomes creamier once the verdant aspects subside.

Over time Silky Woods Elixir becomes more like its predecessor with golden hues and sumptuousness. This duality of light and shade makes the perfume intriguing and complex its damp earthiness versus humid vibrancy is what sets it apart from many gourmands on the market. The tan / gold presentation perfectly represents the scent. Important to note is the price point of £223 for 100 ml (250 Euros at Jovoy Paris and $295 at Luckyscent) which for a perfume with great performance and a high oil concentration represents good value for money. Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods Elixir will be a terrific surprise for those who expected a more amplified version of the original whereas the Elixir is very different, and comparisons only appear in the deep dry down.

Notes: Fig, Saffron, Rose, Peru Balsam, Orris, Agarwood Australia, Guaiac wood, Ambroxan, Clearwood, Vanilla, Musk, Oakmoss, Cypriol, Oud Assafi.

I like the description of the damp earthiness in this fragrance. It has so many notes that appear at different times. Sounds lovely! -NYC

I like the description that it is set apart from many gourmands. I think I am ready for something different and unique. Thank you for that beautiful description.

  • The way he described the intricate blend of fig, saffron, and agarwood, highlighting the luxurious intensity and sensuality of the fragrance, sparked my interest. His vivid portrayal of the scent’s evolution from verdant green aromatics to a rich, gourmand base made me eager to experience this olfactory journey myself. Thank you for such an evocative and detailed review, Karl! I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

I really like this brand. I tried most of their offerings and own a few. Silky Woods the original is one of those rare ones I haven tried. But the Elixir version sounds amazing. I love fig note in general so I’m happy to see it here. I also love the sounds of damp mossy green woods and woody notes in the background. I also like saffron so I think I would like how this fragrance evolves too. The iris vanilla combo in the drydown also sounds amazing. Cheers from Illinois, US.

  • The headiness of a dew-riddled forest to accompany an ode to vanilla paints such a curious picture that I can’t even begin to fully comprehend truly how this elixir smells. Karl has concocted a review that strikes the utmost intrigue.

You’re right. Everyone is crazy about vanilla right now. I appreciated that this review acknowledges that and distinguishes this scent from others out there. Woods used as an earthy, grounding backdrop to a deep vanilla scent is such a gorgeous pairing. You had me at “damp earthiness”. 🙂 Thank you for the drawing. I live in the US.

Karl’s review of Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods Elixir intrigued me with its description of the fragrance’s evolution from damp, mossy notes to a warm, creamy blend of vanilla and orris. The contrast between the earthy and vibrant elements, along with the use of exotic ingredients like fig and Oud Assafi, promises a unique olfactory journey. Additionally, the high performance and value for money make it a compelling choice for those seeking a complex and luxurious scent.

I am a big fan of the original Silky Woods, and I love that the Elixir version is very different – extreme and sensual. The fig and mossy notes sound dark and lush, with vanilla and orris developing further into the wear. I would love to try it! I am in the USA.

  • I was enchanted by the description of the difference between SW and SW Elixir. I’ve smelled the former but not the latter. The fact that Elixir becomes a completely different (damp, mossy, thick) sort of forest is fascinating to me. I’d love to to try it!

  • Man I really am appreciative of this review for giving this fragrance justice. While I only had 2 wearings of this prior from a tester sephora bottle, fast paced internet fragrance content creators can never do this fragrance and it’s perfumers justice. Just 15 seconds for tiktok to do sampling and slideshow videos, calling it a “wood bomb” and moving on. But Karl really examined all the immense depth of this fragrance, with the damp, mossy descriptions drawing onto the peru balsam, fig and agarwood then even to the saffron and ambroxan stage on the 1 hour mark. Following this with the sweeter, gourmand edge stage where it inherits the name of it’s predecessor “Silky Woods”. Both mirroring the original with the creamy and powdery vanilla silky-ness all while amplified and contrasted with these intense, masculine and earthy notes. Thank you Karl for giving us the true representation of this fragrance with this review. Silky Woods Elixir really hits home by drawing inspiration off of my beloved, local rainforest in the daintree of australia. And this style of perfumery is inspiring and exciting for me even though I have a small collection and budget.

Notes: Fig, Saffron, Rose, Peru Balsam, Orris, Agarwood Australia, Guaiac wood, Ambroxan, Clearwood, Vanilla, Musk, Oakmoss, Cypriol, Oud Assafi. A beautiful description by Karl especially the mossy dew note and Clearwood. I am glad this is just not an amplified version of the original and perfumes take this in a different direction. Thanks a million from the UK

  • The name alone immediately piqued my interest. I do enjoy vanilla based fragrances and the note description in this sounds amazing. Mossy opening with fig and woods coming through, then vanilla and orris. Sounds complex and a gourmand I would really enjoy!

I am not a huge fan of vanilla (maybe because they spray if intensively in casinos) , so I’m very curious how Silky Woods Elixir would stay creamy on the skin without being overly sweet. I’m interested in its verdant aspects.

  • I really like Ingenious Ginger from this brand which is instantly likeable despite being an unusual scent. I haven’t tried any of their Silky Wood range but the Elixer sounds nice because of its damp mossiness as Karl describes. It seems an interesting juxtaposition with the vanilla that underlies the composition. Marit in the Netherlands

  • David Furman says:

I think we all can agree here, Mr. Olivier Cresp consistently creates one of a kind masterpieces and I’m confident this collaboration is no exception. Can’t remember any of his scent I didn’t like or at the very least understand. This silky woods has a unique note breakdown and I feel this thing is extremely well blended. No one note overshadows another and clutters it I’m guessing this just flows freely and changes throughout its life. Hope to win, from Jacksonville, NC.

FIIIIG. Oliver Cresp is my king, no one does gourmands like him. Goldfield and banks is one of the houses that I really want to try. Im from croatia, which they ship to

  • Oooh I love a great fig fragrance and an earthy mossy beauty, all these notes just sound incredible. This is a great house and I’m always curious about what they are up to. I’d love to try this. I am in US. Thank you for the chance to win.

  • jlsteckley says:

The original Silky Woods is so good. This one sounds incredible as well! Can’t wait to get my nose on this one.

“This duality of light and shade makes the perfume intriguing and complex its damp earthiness versus humid vibrancy is what sets it apart from many gourmands on the market.” Wow. That sounds like a lovely, well-balanced perfume. I have been on the hunt for grown up vanilla scent that is complex and doesn’t just smell like a straight up bakery. I want some edginess and darkness to my vanilla.

  • Patricia Rojtasova says:

I like the combination of woods, vanilla with the wet and mossy aspect. Must be a nice take on oud. I live in the EU.

  • This fragrance has been on my wishlist since it was announced. I have the original Silky Woods and it is in heavy rotation so I just know I have to add this to the list. Karl’s review perfectly shows the duality of light and shade that the fragrance seems to present and I love scents that can take you on a journey like that.

I’d really like to explore more from this house. I currently own Bohemian Lime and that fragrance is near the top of my collection. Silky Woods Elixir seems to be a more complex take on the original but harkens back with some of its elements. This was an excellent overview of this fragrance; hope to add it to my collection. Thanks for the generosity of the giveaway and many blessings from Virginia, USA!

  • AromaDulce73 says:

I’ve smelled the original Silky Woods but this Elixir version sounds more up my alley. First of all to have Olivier Cresp and Hamid Merati-Kashani collab on this that alone peaked my interest.

I’m not very familiar with the fig note but can only imagine what it would be when it’s combined with Peru Balsam, Agarwood, Guaiac and Oud. Definitely something I would like to get my nose on.

  • Saffron and Ambroxan over vanilla and orris will be a crowd-pleaser, though the latter two materials seem best suited to cool weather. The mossy, humid, earthy aspect of Silky Woods Elixir is more unexpected and an intriguing point of distinction. I’m interested in the way that aspect combines with the rich vanilla.

    I’m in the USA.

Hamid and Olivier have created some of my favorite fragrances such as Sedley. Excited to try this new creation. I’m particularly looking forward to how the opening and mid differ from the original Silky Woods, but I feel like I will probably like as the base is similar to the original. Would love to get a sample. From NY!

  • This has become one of my favorite brands. I enjoy several of their offerings, but the original stands out from my collection, and that is why I have to smell the elixir. The contrast of light and shade and the damp earthiness really has me intrigued. I can’t not wait to smell it!

  • Silky Woods Elixir sounds like a beautifully crafted fragrance! The collaboration between Olivier Cresp and Hamid Merati-Kashani promises a rich and sensual experience. I’m excited to experience the blend of Australian sandalwood with the luxurious notes highlighted in the review.
