Did you know that Daniel Gallagher, the perfumer for Gallagher Fragrances and the Pearlescent Collection is a Major, (but will actually be promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on August 1st, 2024) in the United States Air Force? Steven and I thought what better way to thank him for his service than to review Gallagher Fragrances SKYDIVE from the Pearlescent Collection on Independence Day. I thought the name was connected to his role in the Air Force, but this is the story behind the new Extrait de Parfum.

Lt .Colonel Daniel Gallagher and Mindy Ruiz Gallagher

My wife Mindy Ruiz wanted something to accompany the sky-colored cap. We actually have various cap colors produced prior to having the fragrances ready. The Pearlescent Collection usually involves first deciding which color we are going with, then developing a fragrance to accompany the color. Mindy suggested since we already have Sunscape, which leans toward the aquatic genre, we need a more ozonic fragrance in the line. Gallagher Fragrances SKYDIVE was inspired by those perfect blue sky days when it’s warm, but not too hot, and you can comfortably sit outside and enjoy springtime views for hours. We wanted it to wear well through the hotter months providing a refreshing experience throughout.

A note from the brand: SKYDIVE is a sensorial journey through beautiful spring days, where the sky stretches limitlessly, and the comforting warmth of sun is ever-present.

Featured Notes: Fresh Air, Green Apple, Tulip Blossoms, Pink Sugar, Sea Mist, and Vetiver.

You had me at fresh air & green apple. I would delighted to win!

    Thank you!

  • Wonderful name Skydive, if the wife likes the smell then you can always wear without her fussing especially during her sensitive time of the month. This should be a good one Mindy. Let’s see

  • I’ve heard so much about Gallagher Fragrances, but I had no idea that Daniel Gallagher is in the Air Force! Steven makes this sound lovely. I’m intrigued by the tulip note…and I love apple in fragrances, particularly ones that aren’t too sweet. I’m in Oklahoma, USA. Thanks, as always, for the generous draw.

  • Ramses Perez says:

From the bottle to the scent you can really see how the name Skydive came about and how the fragrance showcases it. I like the quote of Daniel that if you’re not into perfumery to create something unique and be a pioneer in the genere, then why do it anyways? That’s how we got into perfumery in the first place seeing he smelled a few different run of the mill fragrances at the local store and found nothing he connected with. Steven is right I don’t see a tulip note really ever in fragrances so I’m sure skydive is very unique because of it. Also thanks to Daniel for all he does to keep us safe on this 4th of July we celebrate our independence and freedom. Cheers from USA.

  • This Gallagher fragrance definitely caught my attention. The bottle is so beautiful love the blue cap like the sky. So interesting learning about Daniel Gallagher was in the Air Force. The notes are wonderful for this time of year. Thank you for this chance USA

  • I keep hearing Gallagher Fragrances have nothing but hits, I haven’t been able to try any yet. Steven mentioned aquatic but fresh and citrusy. I like that this was made for spring but can also be worn on hotter summer days..

  • Eris.can.swatch.kaos says:

I am so glad this is a unisex fragrance. It sounds to me to be most uplifting and full of “air”, just like skydiving. Steven’s review sparks much interest to me, as the notes described are pleasant and airy. A quote from Daniel’s profile: My goal is not to recreate something that I already own, but to create something that nobody owns, because it hasn’t been done before. That’s very inspiring! I live in Oregon

  • The tulip note is rarely seen in most of the fragrances. And according the pleasant and airy notes makes it best use on high heat summer. Daniel’s introduction as a former military turned perfumer was first as far as I know, and also probably what gave him an idea on what perfume he’s about to create. “My goal is not to recreate something that I already own, but to create something that nobody owns, because it hasn’t been done before. “ A quote from Daniel that kind of resonates with me as well. A sense of uniqueness, and individuality. Im California USA

  • AromaDulce73 says:

First of all thank you Daniel for your service. Love the cap, this looks like a nice summer fragrance to add to my collection. I’ve gone Skydiving once for my birthday, a gift from my beautiful wife. Safe to say it was my 1st will and my last.

Aquatic but fresh according to Steven’s review. A zesty lemon opening sounds nice and refreshing. Glad to hear from Steven that this is a strong & long lasting fragrance. A nice casual fragrance sound good to me.

I love sweet frags, I dont own any Pearlascent frags, love to try this., from PA, USA

  • First off thank you for serving in the Air Force !
    Happy Independence Day to all!!!
Wow I love how his wife had the idea of the sky blue cap, I love the notes that make you feel that you will be skydiving with all the oceanic notes, ozonic … also love how Steven said that the performance is amazing that it lasted 3 days in his car.
Thank you Daniel and Mindy for creating this!

My whole family is USAF, and the 4th of July has always meant a lot to me and my family. My brother is now currently serving overseas. I’m fascinated by this fragrance and by ozone in general. I would love to get a chance to smell this. I’ve been a long time reader

I’ll look into using ozones in my new perfumes coming along.

  • ScentofAbsinthe says:

To make my comment count twice, here is an excerpt from Daniel’s profile in American Perfumery that I found really relatable:

“The impetus for creating new scents comes from any and all inspiration. My most recent release, Amongst Waves, came to be after I had a sudden urge to create something that was a bit more fruity “aquatic” than the pre-existing “aquatic” fragrances in today’s market.”

I love aquatic fragrances and have found ultrazur to be one of my favorite fragrances.

  • Truly impressive to launch your own perfumes and serve in the Air Force! Ozonic fragrances are perfect for a nice summer day, and vetiver is a great base note for fresh fragrances. Performance sounds impressive too.

Striking quote from Daniel’s profile: “The second that I get a shipment of new materials, I break out a stack of scent strips and close myself in the “lab” as I like to call it.” Talking about having your own little lab at home really showcases Daniel’s excitement about blending raw aromas to create something complex, and is truly inspiring.

  • Wow sounds lovely. I can only think of two tulip fragrances off the top of my head. Byredo’s La Tulipe and Mona Di Orio’s Semper Augustus. Both of which I adore. I have yet to try any of Gallagher’s blends and I think this would be a great first! I am in US. Thank you for the chance to win.

  • roxhas1cat says:

Congratulations to Daniel and thank you for your service. I heard about this new fragrance just 2 days ago on YouTube. I’ve been considering blind something from this line, but they all sound so good I haven’t been able to figure out which one. Thanks for featuring this on such an important day for America. Good for you Steven, but I will NEVER jump out of a plane. Love that it is strong for a citrus. Love that cap. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • Gallagher Fragrances SKYDIVE truly captures the essence of those perfect blue sky days, as Daniel Gallagher describes, where the warmth of the sun and the limitless stretch of the sky create a refreshing and invigorating experience. The combination of Fresh Air, Green Apple, Tulip Blossoms, Pink Sugar, Sea Mist, and Vetiver intrigues me, promising a sensorial journey that embodies the spirit of spring. Steven’s review further piques my interest, highlighting the fragrance’s ability to provide a refreshing experience throughout the hotter months. Thank you, Lt. Colonel Gallagher, for your service and for creating such a captivating fragrance.

  • ThatMulattoDude says:

This Intro was really interesting. Had no idea Mr. Gallagher was in the military (thanks for your service, sir) and love the fact that his brand is a family affair in partnership with his wife. The notes look intriguing, kind of a blend my wife would really enjoy. She’s a sucker for fresh scents so I definitely hope to win this one. Loke the fact it’s also long lasting. Appreciate the giveaway offer. Many blessings from Virginia, USA!

  • Learned of Daniel’s upcoming promotion from the written intro. The video let it be known this is an American brand and that the Skydive is a citrusy summer fragrance with a touch of sweetness. US

  • Stacie St. Germaine says:

I just became aware of this fragrance brand! Having many relatives and spouse that are former military, I am SO excited to be able to support an American company! We try to support Made in USA products as often as we can.

  • Lacubanita says:

I absolutely love summer fragrances with a touch of sweetness , anything with a sugar note gets my attention right away. I own a few Gallagher fragrances and they are absolutely stunning!! Will love to get my nose on this one!

  • SkyDive sounds exhilarating! The notes of fresh air and sea mist sound like a day at the beach and the fruit, tulip and vetiver reminds me of a spring day. I appreciate Steven’s observation on the aquatic nature of the scent. I love the collaboration vibe between Daniel and Mindy. MD,USA,

  • I love that they start with the color of the cap for inspiration and then work from there. This cap really DOES look like sky and I adore that they are pairing the release with his anniversary! Steven as always makes the fragrances even more intriguing with his informed and elegant opinions, and I too have jumped out of an airplane, so it’s cool that he harked that, which I can identify with. And the oceanic aspects are what I am ALWAYS looking for in scent. I would like my reply to count twice, so here’s a quote from the profile. Okay two quotes because it’s a great article! I would LOVE to have a leather scent with notes of attic. I know exactly what he’s talking about with the vintage military memorabilia and I would wear that scent, especially if it had a cosmolene note in it too! and then “designer fragrances, but I couldn’t find any that really interested me.” I agree with that so much too. There are good designer scents, but they tend to be very same-y.

  • Floral, oceanic, and a touch of sweetness! I am ready for this. I own midnight jasmine from pearlescent and behold patchouli from Gallagher. Their fragrances are beautiful. In maryland.

  • Love the simple story behind it’s creation. I love when a perfumer takes inspiration from something ordinary and creates an interpretation of what it means to them. I’m also happy to hear it focuses on the ozonic, rather than aquatic. The green apple and tulip combo sounds joyful! Steve praised its potency and longevity, which excites me because I like strong scents and freshies don’t always deliver in that department. I think it sounds like a wonderful frag. Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • FragranceIsMe says:

From one vet to another…thank you for your service 🙂

Hmm, Citrusy, Aquatic, and Floral with a touch of sweetness…sounds perfect for this time of year. Oh my goodness, the notes of green apple, fresh air and pink sugar have me longing for the experience of this fragrance. Looking forward to it.

    Quote from Daniel’s profile:
“Truth be told, Mindy is the impetus for me becoming an artisan perfumer.”

    PA, USA

  • LightOfJoy says:

How fun to know that Pearlescent Parfums are inspired by cap color. These bottles are so fun. I have Tonkapeach and Midnight Jasmine, which are very satisfying to hold and spray, and aesthetically pleasing as well.

“I spent the majority of my early years playing outside…so I would get to witness the leaves changing and all of the scents that come with a northeastern Fall.”

I found this tidbit interesting, because I can imagine how this time impacted how he creates perfume.

Thank you so much for your review, Steven! I thought it was truly a compliment to share that there’s really nothing that Skydive reminds you of. It speaks to the uniqueness that this house provides.

I would love to win a bottle of Skydive, and I live in Texas, USA.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I had no idea that Pearlescent fragrances were inspired by the bottle cap colors and I totally love that. And congrats to Danielle on his promotion! I love how Steven describes the top notes of jumping out of a plane. The notes in this sound fantastic and I love an oceanic note so Steven’s description really has me intrigued. Thank you for the draw. From the US.

  • wallygator88 says:

THanks for the nice review Steven!

Such an interesting idea – to design the fragrance based on the inspiration of the bottle cap.

The scent notes remind me a little of Nautica Voyager and Mont Blanc Presence Cool. I do love the balance of being an oceanic and floral – this definitely hit’s the spot for summer.

“I think the one thing to remember is that a lot of artisan/indie perfumers are also avid collectors themselves.”

Such a great quote from Daniel Gallagher profile.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Daniel’s approach to SKYDIVE sounds a little like the reverse of what I’d expect, but the Pearlescent Collection bottles are striking, and designing around that color seems like a great way of achieving a certain mood with a fragrance. The cap looks like wispy clouds in the sky on “perfect blue sky days”. Steven highlighted how strong and long lasting SKYDIVE is—wonderful for a bright, citrusy fragrance—and mentioned that it’s unique among the fragrances he’s tried. Also, I’m curious about the tulip note he highlighted, which I’m not particularly familiar with. Looking forward to trying this “citrusy, aquatic, floral for the summertime.”

Thanks for linking to Daniel’s Profiles in American Perfumery post. This quote stood out, since I love Pearl Jam too: “My most recent release, Amongst Waves, came to be after I had a sudden urge to create something that was a bit more fruity “aquatic” than the pre-existing “aquatic” fragrances in today’s market. The name for the creation is derived from the song “Amongst the Waves” by Pearl Jam, one of my favorite bands.” Didn’t catch that reference.

    I’m in the USA.

  • David Furman says:

Like Jeremy would say, POWER….!?!?!. That and it being citric in nature is unusual. Both of which Steven explained and confirmed in his assessment. The longevity and it being a more light and airy composition makes this a winner. Tulip blossoms probably smell great and it a floral I don’t see often like orange blossom. Would love to see how this dances off my skin in the summer breeze. From Jacksonville, NC.

  • What a brilliant and appropos name for a fragrance devoted to the air! So much more meaningful coming from a perfumer who really knows the experience of flying and sky diving. I absolutely love that it opens with tulips (don’t know what this would be) but only a touch of sweet, and love this “oceanic” quality described by Steven. It’s more daily wear freshness is exactly what I am on the search for. How neat that this perfumer is from my area – I grew up in VT and now live not from from Boston. I love his “pioneer” spirit: “My goal is not to recreate something that I already own, but to create something that nobody owns, because it hasn’t been done before. To me, this is what is means to be an American Perfumer; to be a pioneer.” Thank you for this generous draw and these great reviews. I live in NH, USA.
