Justin Frederico and Catherine Frederico

Co-founder Catherine Frederico and Perfumer Justin Frederico of Frederico Parfums

It’s already been a year since perfumer Justin Frederico launched the inaugural perfume for his newly-minted brand Frederico Parfums: the fragrance was Blooming Amber, a tender honeyed floral. Since then, Justin has been busy– creating four exquisite and novel perfumes (all are perfume strength concentration), each one different from the next. He is currently in the process of updating his website, while he has been redesigning his labels and packaging, in order to better reflect and showcase his brand’s aesthetic. In addition, there are many more fragrant concepts currently in the works. Justin’s creative mind rarely rests.

Frederico Parfums Parfum Ensoleillé

Frederico Parfums Parfum Ensoleillé

Frederico Parfums Parfum Ensoleillé was the first fragrance to follow Blooming Amber, and it took a considerable amount of care to develop. One of the challenges resided in composing a Mediterranean-inspired perfume which encompassed multiple aspects of the orange in an original manner. Herbs, blossoms, spice, woods and verdant elements each had their part to play. From the beginning, it became clear that only a perfume concentration would do this scent justice. As it often happens, modules can reveal the specific, preferred format required to showcase a fragrance’s attributes. Few perfumes are as glowing as this one is – and more to the point, it’s one of the few newer scents on the market which I am happy to wear for my own pleasure.

Parfum Ensoleillé is an ardent ode to orange blossom that celebrates its universal appeal in parfum strength. Diverse facets of the flower’s sunny disposition are revealed: voluptuous floral languor is embellished with brisk aldehydes, zesty notes of bergamot, mandarin and Brazil orange. Ingenious pinches of thyme, ginger and coriander meld with beeswax and ambergris; basil and lavender provide a wisp of verdancy; the subtle base is peppered with touches of cedar, moss and vetiver. This is a glowing, alive fragrance which wears beautifully in any season – a warm and soothing solar embrace.

Notes: aldehydes, bergamot, mandarin, Brazil sweet orange, orange blossom, thyme, coriander, ginger, basil, lavender, cedar, moss, vetiver, beeswax, ambergris.

Lemon Basil Fizz by Justin Frederico

Frederico Parfums Lemon Basil Fizz

Justin Frederico wanted a zesty, tonic fragrance – something playful and refreshing that shared a lineage with some of the great perfumes which preceded it. Classic and quirky was the name of the game, and Lemon Basil Fizz turned out to be everything he wished, and then some. A cornucopia of citrus and citrus-imbued materials accompany carefully chosen florals which are highlighted by a variety of aldehydes, touches of spice, herbs galore and amiable woody tones. This is a sparkling, irresistible scent which is very versatile and happy-making. There are myriad ways of amplifying lemon – and the herbs melissa, citronella, and lemongrass contribute a significant increase in depth and complexity. The observer may note that there are common materials employed in both Parfum Ensoleillé and Lemon Basil Fizz; I urge you not to be deceived. Formulae, when listed purely as notes – do not reveal the concentrations, ratios present in a fragrance. It is not uncommon to see similar lists which result in very different fragrances.

Lemon Basil Fizz is a buoyant cosmopolitan cocktail which transforms effervescent herb-infused lemonade into an effortlessly elegant elixir – all the more potent and appealing as a parfum. Its suave charm is hard to resist and never fails to elicit a smile; call it Nature’s panacea for flagging spirits, polished and easy to love, all year long.

Notes: aldehydes (including cyclamen aldehyde), bergamot, grapefruit, citronella, lemongrass, lemon, Brazilian orange, mandarin, melissa, basil, ginger, lavender, Hedione®, geranium, lily-of-the-valley accord, green notes, nutmeg, cardamom, tarragon, bay, cilantro, Virginia cedarwood, cypriol heart, moss, ambrettolide, ambergris

Frederico Parfums Posh affair

Frederico Parfums Posh Affair

Being bewitched by haute parfumerie is one thing – but applying classical bone structure to a completely modern perfume is another. Posh Affair possesses all the panache of a rare vintage with present-day flair in the form of a sprightly aldehydic fruity floral draped in greenery, precious woods, and sprinkled with powder. This perfume displays facets of luxuriousness, animalic murmurs, and a delicious, juicy floralcy. So far, every person who has smelt it insists that they want a bottle of their own – and I agree. Frederico Parfums Posh Affair is that rare creature: a perfume which blends vintage mastery and contemporary finesse without skipping a beat. This regal fragrance renders any occasion memorable – dressed as the much-loved classic aldehydic green floral chypre with a twist. Lustrous aldehydes pave the way to a tender floral heart which includes a breathtaking rose; myriad green notes appear, beautifully balanced. This aromatic perfect harmony is accented with subtle traces of powder and the hint of an animalic growl embedded in its mossy balsamic/woody base. It’s the NEW classic.

Notes: aldehydes, bergamot, rose, peach nectar, Ceylon cinnamon, jasmine, galbanum, orris, guaiac wood, ambrettolide, patchouli, labdanum, oakmoss, vetiver, oud

Justin Frederico Parfums silken skin

Frederico Parfums Silken Skin

How does one approach a genre which has been explored time and again? With equal amounts of anticipation and trepidation. Justin had experienced an encyclopedic number of leather fragrances – and he had no desire to duplicate any of them. Justin’s particular master stroke lay in his use of passion fruit, with its subtle animalic tones – which are bolstered by patchouli, oud, musk and leathery benzoin. Silken Skin is an anomaly: weightless yet enduring; indolic and feathery. It is slippery-smooth – not boot leather, bridle leather, or any rough hide – and it isn’t suede, either. Sleight-of-hand expertise results in one of the more intriguing leather fragrances of the year. Silken Skin invites you to experience leather as never before: a gossamer-weight, silken skin of a perfume – haunting and extraordinarily long-lasting. Ripe plum and tangy, delicately animalic passion fruit pave the way for a floral heart which seethes with indolic jasmine; its deep, charismatic base is underscored with an exceptional oud, aligned with earthy facets. Unlike other leather fragrances, these elements compose a rare perfume which is feather-light and unforgettably compelling.

Notes: passion fruit, plum, jasmine, geranium, muguet, cedarwood, patchouli, vetiver, oud, oakmoss, benzoin, musk

Justin Frederico is a name to watch. It’s a beautiful thing to witness an artist come into their own, and these new fragrances foreshadow a bright future.

  • im really interested in getting my nose on the diverse animalic juice and Parfum Ensoleillé with bergamot ambergris and beeswax has to be amazing

  • What appealed to me about the four new Frederico Parfums based on Ida’s review is how the first fragrance “Parfum Ensoleillé”wears beautifully any season and is a warm and soothing solar embrace. The second one “Lemon Basil Fizz” is a buoyant cosmopolitan cocktail which transforms effervescent herb-infused lemonade into an effortlessly elegant elixir and can be used all year round. The third “Posh Affair”dressed as the much-loved classic aldehydic green floral chypre with a twist. The fourth “Silken Skin” utilizes the note of passionfruit to bring out leathery nuances combined with other notes like patchouli, oud, musk and leathery benzoin. My preference would be Parfum Ensoleillé. Thank you for the opportunity. New York, USA.

  • These all sound amazing and unique, which in this day of 1000s of fragrance choices, is special. If I had to choose I think I would go with Posh Affair, even though Lemon Basil Fizz sounds so cheering. They all sound like experiences!

  • FragranceIsMe says:

My wife absolutely loves loves LOVES Justin’s first “limited” release of Blooming Amber…It’s one of her favorites in our entire collection. The two in this review that seem most appealing to me are Silken Skin and Lemon Basil Fizz. With that being said, I look forward to getting my nose on all four of these latest creations 🙂

  • What intrigued me the most about these fragrances is that they all seems light and airy and yet still have some richness and depth to them! I would love to try Posh Affair!

  • Thanks Ida for this amazing review.
I totally need to try Frederico Parfums, they all look so great and promissing.
All 4 offer amazing experiences but the one that got my attention the most is Lemon Bazil Fizz. The playful and refreshing citrus, the chosen floral notes and the herbs. Everything looks so perfect in it.
I hope I win Lemon Bazil Fizz.

  • These fragrances all sound lovely and unique and composed with great care and attention to detail. I’m most drawn to Silken Skin. Ida’s description as a weightless yet enduring, indolic and feathery leather perfume is compelling. The addition of the fruits, including an animalic passion fruit and tangy plum sound luscious. MD, USA.

  • kusudamakitten98 says:

All of the fragrances described by Ida sound lovely. I particularly am interested in Posh Affair — I loved the description that it “blends vintage mastery and contemporary finesse without skipping a beat.” I enjoy chypres and I would love to try a regal new classic!

  • These seem like very happy uplifting scents. How would one choose? I would have to go with Ensoleille due to the orange blossom. There is no doubt that Ida’s reviews are genuine……unlike so many YouTube reviewers that I believe are often gushing for likes and free fragrances. Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • Hello from Florida, and thank you to Ida for the reviews!

Parfum Ensoleillé sounds like a real stunner — I’m so intrigued by the combination of orange blossom and thyme. If selected, I’d love to give it a try.

  • All four scents sound amazing and I ‘m always on the look-out for scents that stand out for with a unique olfactory experience. USA

  • David Furman says:

I think no matter your tastes one if not all will melt your criteria. I like silken skin. Anything that has oud at the base I’m a sucker for. Also it doesn’t have aldehydes so I think it’ll be thicker and dark. I know that passion fruit and plum hit you with a dose of sweet that I would love. Please lemme win, from Jacksonville NC

  • What a beautiful selection from Frederico Parfums and thank you for the wonderful insight to them, Ida. I am very drawn to Lemon Basil Fizz and feel this would really suit my liking! Sparkling, zesy and tonic…My mouth is watering!

  • Christine Jelley says:

We trust you, Ida! You have integrity. I’m most intrigued by Lemon Basil. All those citrus notes plus lavender and a few rich evil-doers at the bottom sound beautiful. I live in NY. PS: I love the packaging.

  • These four new fragrances from Justin Frederico make for an expressive lineup. Of the four, Lemon Basil Fizz immediately caught my attention; it makes me think of “freshie” fragrances, but with an elixir of lemon and herbs instead of clean musks and aquatic elements. It sounds like a delight to wear in warm weather. Silken Skin also seems clever, and I can’t recall encountering that combination of passion fruit and leather in another fragrance. And rare is the leather you can call “feather-light.” It sounds enchanting. Thanks for the coverage, Ida.

I’m in the USA. If I were to win, I’d prefer the Lemon Basil Fizz. Thanks!

  • foreverscents says:

Ida’s descriptions of the 4 Frederico perfumes highlighted how Justin Frederico takes a new and fresh spin on the elements of classical perfumery. I think all of them sound magnificent, but as a leather enthusiast, I would choose Silken Skin. I love plum in fragrances and I am intrigued to experience the gossamer lightness of the fragrance.
    I live in the USA.

  • Ryan Frazier says:

I would prefer to win Lemon Basil Fizz. Refreshing cocktail fragrances are really up my alley. The classic look and presentation of the four fragrances really look classy and like how the compositions look to be simple but compelling. I’ve heard great things about blooming amber. Great read!

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the wonderful writeup Ida.

I’m really intrigued by Silken Skin. The presentation and color palette certainly reminds me of a fragrance from before.

It was really cool to read about how passionfruit was utilized for it’s animalic, leathery facets. Really such a fun way to approach a leather fragrance. I don’t think I’ve seen one like that.

Ida certainly seems to have given these fragrances a strong valuation.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Ida’s review of the four new Federico Perfumes. They all sound truly amazing. This is a great new brand discovery for me, it sounds like Catherine and Justin Federico have teamed up to make some amazing fragrances. If I win I would choose Lemon Basil Fizz. It sounds like a beautiful citrusy and aromatic fragrance with the fizzy aspect which I love in fragrances. I am from the USA.

  • Thank you, Ida, for the review.
The way you describe Lemon Basil Fizz as “a buoyant cosmopolitan cocktail which transforms effervescent herb-infused lemonade into an effortlessly elegant elixir” is very compelling. I was gifted a sample of Blooming Amber and would love to own a full bottle.
Much love from NY, USA! <3
