Frederico Parfums Blooming Amber Review (Justin Frederico) 2022 + A Taste of Honey Giveaway

Artisanal perfumer Justin Frederico might be an unfamiliar name to many readers. I hope to amend that, if it rings true. Many of us have come to know and love Creative Director Nir Guy’s line of Perfumology fragrances – all five of them. The nose behind each of these is Justin Frederico. Justin is a marvelous collaborator (we’ve worked together on many projects over the past four years), and the time has now come for him to step into the spotlight as the consummate professional he is. To this end, Justin has recently released his own brand: Frederico Parfums. His inaugural fragrance foreshadows delights yet to come: Frederico Parfums Blooming Amber is a transcendent white floral amber which trails a sensual, diffusive honeyed warmth and is timelessly tender.

Justin Frederico’s resume alone would astonish you: he holds a post-doctoral degree from Columbia University in synthetic organic chemistry, and has worked for such renowned fragrance houses as Givaudan and IFF throughout the span of his lengthy career. He’s a whiz with a gas chromatograph (just ask him how many he owns!) – but it’s his own nose which is a cherished possession. As a perfumer and chemist Justin has done the heavy lifting behind the scenes for others for so many years; it is time for him to create according to his own desires without externally imposed constraints.

Frederico Parfums Blooming Amber is nothing if not plush – but it’s plush without being ponderous. This fragrance reveals an underlying essential romanticism which dwells within the perfumer’s heart. Several critical elements converge seamlessly as the effervescent introduction of mandarin and orange facets evoke a lighthearted, breezy disposition. This airiness segues into a voluptuous honeyed heart garlanded with a trio of white blossoms – lily of the valley, jasmine and neroli – and just enough lavender to temper sweetness and contribute its lovely plaintive herbal/floral voice to Blooming Amber’s floral chorale. Blossoms float gauzily upon a velvety base of gossamer amber, musk, vanilla and moss graced by polished patchouli and a cashmere note which is diffusive, somewhat spicy, woody and muskily powdery. Arrayed in elegant and unmistakable sillage, Blooming Amber possesses impressive longevity and tenacity.

For those who are cautious about indolic perfumes, rest assured that neither the jasmines nor the honey read as overtly animalic; those touches are appropriately subtle. I’ve had my bottle for about six months, and it has deepened to the point where its drydown has become even richer: I notice a gourmand quality which resembles a butterscotch caramel without excessive sweetness. Blooming Amber is beautifully balanced and has wings enough to take flight combined with sufficient gravitas to be taken seriously.

Delicious as its taste of honey may be, the perfumer has given us no flighty fragrance. I perceive Frederico Parfums Blooming Amber as a welcome addition to anyone’s collection; it is marvelous all year ‘round – and encourages the wearer to view amber perfume from another point of view – namely, that of the bee.

Notes: mandarin, orange, honey, lily-of-the-valley, jasmine, lavender, neroli, amber, musk, vanilla, cashmere, patchouli, green moss

Bottle provided by the perfumer – many thanks! My nose is my own…

  • Congratulations to Justin Frederico for the launch of Frederico Parfum’s Blooming Amber. The notes for this fragrance sound lovely, with the effervescent opening and a floral, musk and honey base. I would love to try this fragrance. I live in Houston Texas and would like to enter the giveaway. Thanks

  • Wow! This one sounds like a stunner. The note composition sounds so beautiful and I would be grateful to try. Honey as a note sounds enticing but I can’t say I have any favorite fragrances with it as a note. Would be fun to try. From CT, USA.

Absolutely love it when a strong lieutenant steps forward and sets out on their own.
    Best of luck with Frederico.

  • A honey fragrance from the perspective of the bee is a great description! I am interested in Blooming Amber because it was described as being less indolic. I love honey and white flowers but gravitate to subtler iterations. I’m looking forward to trying this fragrance. ~Indiana

  • I have admired the perfume releases from Perfumology, in particular Bliss, but I didn’t know that Justin Frederico was behind their creation. I am now eager to try his new fragrance as I love amber scents, especially this time of year, and the addition of honey notes seems unique to me, at least in my collection. Thank you for the review!

  • I’m attracted to honey fragrances and Blooming Amber sounds beautiful. All the notes, especially green moss and mandarin are calling my name. On my wishlist it goes. Congrats to Frederico Parfums. I’m looking forward to more fantastic creations. Mich USA

  • After trying Montale’s Honey Oud, I have gotten interested in honey perfumes. While most perfumers are artists first and chemists later, if ever, I was intrigued to find from Ida’s review that Justin has a postgraduate in organic chemistry from Columbia. So I am really curious how a chemist would design a perfume. Besides the notes in Blooming Amber are lovely. Thanks for the review and draw. From the USA.

  • This sounds lovely! Amber is such a warm, comforting note and one I automatically associate with a golden Autumn season. The sunny citrus combined with voluptuous honey over a bed of florals and that cashmere/patch/amber base sounds both sensual and elegant. The butterscotch caramel element that Ida mentioned, has my mouth watering! MD, USA

  • I am so excited to take in the work of a chemist and artist in one – the mark of true ingenuity! I’ve also been drawn to honey and amber lately…searching for The One. I love white florals and lavender when it supports not runs over. This is sounding glorious!!

  • I love the description of Blooming Amber being “plush – but it’s plush without being ponderous”. Honey fragrances can be heavy or overwhelming, and this sounds the opposite of that. I’m also delighted to hear of a behind the scenes perfumer getting some time in the spotlight!

  • I think the notes in this one sound gorgeous. One part of the reveiw stood out to me almost as if Ida was reading my mind, “For those who are cautious about indolic perfumes, rest assured that neither the jasmines nor the honey read as overtly animalic”. I am the cautious person she was speaking to! I have some fragrances with a honey and/or jasmine note i love but do always sample first when i see these notes incase of the indolic animalic vibe i am not a fan of.

I have tried and enjoy some releases from Perfumology. I enjoyed learning about this new amber scent. I love amber scents so much, it is one of the most perfect notes for this time of year in my opinion but i also like the idea of a more versitile year round amber.

Great review as usual, Thank you!

  • Big congrats to Justin Ferederico for this amazing launch that is Blooming Amber.
Federico surely is someone who has the experience and the studies to make a masterpiece and this is surely one. I love white florals with a twist and this is something I am eager to try. I hope I get my nose on this one soon.

I appreciate the balance that Ida pointed out – “For those who are cautious about indolic perfumes, rest assured that neither the jasmines nor the honey read as overtly animalic; those touches are appropriately subtle.” Along with that, she points out an airiness, which makes it seem quite versatile.

  • Michael Reed says:

Love the idea that it has a butterscotch note- plus wearable all year round with great longevity and performance.. Would love to get my nose on this one 🙂
Being in the Seattle area this feels like it would be a signature scent for most of the year..

  • Regis Monkton says:

I’m fond of all five Perfumology fragrance releases. I own and enjoy “Grange” and “L’Ima”, and I’d like to own the rest of them. I’m interested to see what Justin Frederico’s own fragrance company’s fragrances will be like. This new fragrance sounds like something I’d like. I can like a honey note in fragrances. I’m also interested to try it when Ida says “I’ve had my bottle for about six months, and it has deepened to the point where its drydown has become even richer: I notice a gourmand quality which resembles a butterscotch caramel without excessive sweetness.” I live in the U.S.A.

  • I’ve been on a big amber kick lately (The Zoo Amber Classico Modern is a lot of fun), especially as the temperatures start to dip. Blooming Amber sounds like a different take on the genre than I’m used to, with its white floral centerpiece, though I’m drawn to that combination of mandarin, jasmine, and lily of the valley. Also, good to hear the indolic elements here are restrained and in service of a rich, honey and butterscotch temperament. Thanks for the review, Ida.

  • Michael Prince says:

What appeals to me about Frederico Parfums Blooming Amber based on Ida’s review is learning about Artisanal perfumer Justin Frederico with so much education, experience, accomplishments, and a lengthy resume. I would love to explore Blooming Amber and the other 4 fragrances from his line. A beautiful floral honeyed and Amber fragrance that sounds perfect to me. I am from the USA.

  • Ida!!! ❤️❤️❤️ How exciting! The first fragrances that come bursting out with a perfumer’s freedom & independence are usually full of energy and often intoxicating. These sound so lush and lovely! Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! I can’t wait to try Frederico Parfums! ❤️❤️❤️ USA

  • How beautiful this sounds! Blooming Amber could be the honey fragrance I’ve been looking for. So many honey fragrances are just that, so overwhelmed by the honey that I can’t smell the whole composition.

Thanks you for the introduction to Justin Frederico. What an impressive background. Frederico Perfumes is a name I will watch. Blooming Amber is a fragrance I’d love to try! Thanks for the review and the giveaway. In the USA.

Ida’s review certainly described the plush aspects of Blooming Amber in very descriptive terms. I love how the citrus notes segue into the floral notes and then the amber and musk notes. The dry down on this fragrance must be spectacular.

Thanks for the nice review Ida.

It”s always fun to read about people in a technical area who are also perfumers.

I’m generally not a fan of amber fragrances because I find them to be too heavy for my tastes. I do like that this is an amber that is lifted by beautiful florals and citruses.
