“If there has been one perfume that I have created so far that gave me the most trouble, it would be For the Scent of It Dreaming in Pomelo. I began work on this scent in August of ’23 and worked on a new trial just about every week if not numerous trials a week. The Lucid Dreams line is about keeping the star ingredient at the center of attention. Pomelo was a new challenge despite its many similarities with grapefruit. I just could not find that pomelo signature I was looking for. I first had to create a pomelo accord that smelled as great as it lasted. I can surprisingly say that was the “easy part.” The biggest problem was not overshadowing the pomelo note and finding the right supporting notes to lift the pomelo. After months of trials, the combination of Pomelo with black currant, rhubarb at the top, and a pomelo blossom accord with Haitian vetiver and lavender in the heart was the signature I was looking for. I didn’t want the “base notes” to weigh down the fragrance, so I tried to keep it light with a soft brush stroke of sandalwood and an “Amber Waves of Musk” accord – a combination of grainy, textural amber and lofty musk. It took many trials, headaches, frustrations… and one relieving laugh when I found it! That aha moment is one I’ll never forget. You just know it when you smell it.” –Michael Schrammel, Owner and Perfumer of For the Scent of It.

Amid a lucid dream, the dreamer finds themselves not just a passive observer but a master of their destiny. They are fully engulfed in a vivid and realistic dreamscape, where they not only experience the events unfolding. Still, they may also be able to control the dream’s outcome. This unique power allows the dreamer to make choices and decisions that can alter the course of the dream, granting them a sense of agency and control in this otherwise subconscious realm. I am captivated by this process and that Michael has harnessed it as part of his passion for creating sublime fragrances.

I invite you to join me on my incredible journey through my lucid dream with For the Scent of It Dreaming in Pomelo, presented in a captivating three-act narrative that will leave you hopefully inspired, uplifted, and intrigued.

As my eyelids close, the curtains open with a burst of sweet, ripe blackcurrant accentuated by honey pomelo with its hints of sugary honey, yuzu, and berries, offering a lively and stimulating opening with citrusy and floral structure, along with a hint of rhubarb’s tanginess. This combination gives me the sense of a playful and delightful sensory experience that transports me to a sunny citrus grove, surrounded by the sweet aroma of blackcurrant and the freshness of honey pomelo with just the slightest hint of rhubarb’s tang to keep things interesting. I take it in and relish this act with its empowering setup, but know that I still have two more to go, each promising a new and exciting olfactory journey.

Act II  introduces a confrontation that was as enlightening as the first. As my lucid daydream takes me deeper into REM It is hard to pick the star performers in this stage as they are so cohesive, enhancing each other to capture my interest and keep me present. Then, the star emerges undeniably. Unforgettable as she separates from the vetiver with its deep, heavy earthiness and the lavender, which is a perfect floral introduction to she that shines. pomelo blossom’s hints of citrus, sweetness, and creaminess note from her indole reminiscent of jasmine flowers. As I bask in the fragrant perfume cloud emanating from this act, I am struck by its harmonious synergy with Act II, creating something more sublime and captivating than the sum of its parts. I revel in the synergy and eagerly anticipate the final act, the resolution, as it unfolds.

As my anticipation mounts, the curtain elegantly rises, initiating Act III and the resolution. The atmosphere transforms, embracing me with a warm, woody essence that fuses seamlessly with the previous acts but is not overpowering, forming a creamy, floral, earthy foundation that transports me to a realm of enchantment and wonder. With the addition of these, the Pomelo Blossom can still shine. With each deep breath, I am immersed in the captivating performance of For the Scent of It Dreaming in Pomelo. I am a part of a new scented dreamscape where the essences combine to create a unique and unforgettable experience. The magic of the bouquet and its balminess come alive, and I resonate deeply with its completeness and beauty, leaving me with a profound sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.

I have never experienced lucid dreaming or ate a pomelo for that matter but this one intrigues me. I always imagined creating a fragrance was no easy task but to actually have Michael explain to us how difficult it was for him to come with the perfect pomelo accord and having supporting notes around it uplift it, was eye-opening. In my mind, in an alternate universe, I could be a perfumer but it takes years and years of learning what notes okay with others and also creating something unique every time. Based on how this one makes Sandi feel and reminisce about the vidlvid memories and emotions, I’m inclined to say this one leans more on the fresh-airy side which is perfect for the weather we’re having and the heatwave coming tomorrow. Cheers from the USA.

Sandi’s review really was a journey, so well illustrated.  If this fragrance is a dream, I’m willing to allow it to take me along where it chooses.  I have not experienced lucid dreaming. From USA

  • FragranceIsMe says:

Such a dreamy fragrance. All the notes mentioned are captivating…but none are as captivating to me at the note of “amber waves of musk”…which is part of the creamy floral foundation. And, of course I’m a pomelo fan. Thank you Sandi for a wonderful review.

I love the way the review takes you through different notes by reference to different stages of the dream. I’ve never tried a pomelo fragrance so it intrigues me. I love the rhubarb and black currant opening with it and curious how it plays with the florals and musk. I’ve never experienced lucid dreaming but would like to try to get the experience with this fragrance!

  • Brad Woolslayer says:

I love to experience any fragrance with a rhubarb note. This was sounds interesting as well. I appreciated Sandi’s lucid dream of this fragrance and would love to experience this one for myself as well. I live in Maryland USA.

  • WillRhodes says:

Love this three act narrative of the lucid dream being broken down into such an inspiring landscape! I crave this dream and want to experience it myself!

  • I have, in fact, experienced lucid dreaming! Not as often as I’d like, though. I’ve read that there are ways to evoke this experience and I might try some of them. Maybe a sniff of this fragrance could help? I’m very interested to know what the pomelo blossom note smells like. Sounds sunny and gorgeous. Thanks for the opportunity – I’m in the USA.

  • You don’t seem pomelo listed in fragrances that much. At least I don’t. An uplifting dream scent that takes you on a real journey displaying the beauty and mystery of the world sounds fantastic. In maryland.

  • Ethan Nichols says:

Wow this sounds amazing. I love the vivid description and comparisons to lucid dreams, something I experience quite often. I had never even heard of a pomelo before this review, but this sounds lovely. US, New Jersey here. Cheers!

  • Eris.can.swatch.kaos says:

This definitely sounds dreamy. I loved this review and the journey through scent it takes you on. Though I know I’ve experienced lucid dreaming before, I cannot recall the subject of my dreaming. I live in Oregon.

  • Sandi’s review of “For the Scent of It Dreaming in Pomelo” beautifully captures the meticulous craftsmanship of Michael Schrammel. The blend of pomelo, black currant, and rhubarb top notes with a heart of pomelo blossom, vetiver, and lavender creates a refreshing and harmonious scent. The base notes of Amber Waves of Musk and sandalwood provide a soft, lasting finish. As a Nashville resident, I appreciate the dedication to artistry, much like our local creatives. This fragrance promises a journey through a vivid, controlled dreamscape, sparking my interest in experiencing it firsthand. I’ve had lucid dreams before, and this scent seems to encapsulate that magical, immersive experience. Thank you for the opportunity to win this exquisite parfum!

  • phuongmtran says:

I have many lucid dreams, it is a surreal state to be in, and hard to pull away from. I appreciate the perfumer taking on the challenge of capturing the note of pomelo and uplifting it. The review as a three-act narrative is amazing, I would love to try Dreaming in Pomelo. I am in the US.

  • ScentofAbsinthe says:

The commentary on this scent was so vivid and iconic, I felt like the scene transported me to the exotic locations of this scent’s signature notes.

After reading this, I simply must know what it smells like! Nostalgic moments from my childhood involving warm rhubarb pie draw me to any rhubarb fragrance, remembering the tangy red jam and the sharp snapping noise of the rhubarb leaves, broken into pieces for making the sugary goodness.

I am an avid reader of Cafleurbon from the USA, and would very much like to win

  • I have had the pleasure of sampling Michael’s newest Lucid Dream fragrances, and though I fully expected Dreaming in Orange to be my fave, it was Dreaming in Pomelo that ended up sweeping me off of my feet. Michael has managed to do what so few others have managed: he crafted a citrus accord that both smells organic and lasts for hours. The pomelo accord he created is magnificent. It’s both juicy and dry, with just a slight metallic edge to it. As Sandi so eloquently described, it plays out in distinct acts. The opening is incredible, but my favorite part of this one is once the vetiver, lavender, and musk take hold in the dry-down. They work wonderfully with the pomelo as it continues to hum along for what seems like an impossible amount of time for a citrus.

I have never experienced lucid dreaming, but have been interested in it since a grad school colleague told me her stories of being able to control where she goes in her dreams. Sounds truly magical! Best of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

  • I have not tried Lucid Dreams before, but I am hoping to get my hands on it specially it derives from a pomelo scent. What fascinates me about the reviews was the way how the fragrance came to be. It was a product of mixtures of different ingredients to mellow down the pomelo, and the fact that just by reading the whole reviews makes me imagine different memories of excitement due to its scent profile/notes. I have smelled pomelo before, but from alcohol, and that excites me. I hope thats the case with this perfume. I am from California USA

  • This is definitely something new to me even though I have a large collection. I’ve never experienced this fragrance and I would be very thrilled to own a bottle.
    Thank you

  • David Furman says:

I love fragrances that round off towards the end with sandalwood. It gives a creamy or dry edge that settles and balances anything screeching or sharpe. I’m familiar with black currant in but I’m unsure how it intertwines with the rhubarb. Not sure what to think of this but I know it’s well composed and like the creator stated he wanted to keep the fragrance light. Would love to be enlightened with this one, from Jacksonville, NC.

  • madamepeace says:

I have lucid dreamed before! I sometimes drink a cup of tea with just a touch of mugwort leaves in it, and as it turns out, most of the time my dreams end up taking me straight to my deepest fears! I have recently in the last few months been paying very close attention to my dreams as a way to resolve and heal unhealed trauma and I gain a lot of insight when I look at my dreams as a map to paying conscious attention to what feels difficult or hard or uncomfortable for myself.
I love in this review how tangy and sort of berry-like the opening sounds of Dreaming in Pomelo. I also had no idea that Dreaming in Pomelo had a story of particular challenge to come to its existence but I can imagine since it is such a unique citrus. Honestly it kind of reminds me of life! Sometimes it takes a lot of “mistakes” and “failures” to learn our way to a better recipe of learning how to live our life that feels in better attunement or alignment with our values and our goals!

  • donfisch74 says:

Amber Waves of Musk could be a band name. Haha. This sounds wonderful, would love to check it out!!

  • The vivid descriptions of Dreaming in Pomelo is incredible. I felt like I was also part of the scent journey in each act. The perfume sounds amazing and seems like it would make a great fresh summer scent.

  • I always thought pomelo and grapefruit were interchangeable. I didn’t know they were distinct scents. Michael’s combination of the pomelo fruit note with black currant and rhubarb and the blossom accord with vetiver and lavender sounds inspired. I’ve tried to lucid dream a lot (even bought a book which tells you how to do it) but have so far been unable to. Probably when I least expect it. MD, USA.

  • mmcalister says:

I’ve had plenty of lucid dreams in my life! Like in Sandi’s awesome review, I can see a parallel between how a perfume unfurls itself and how a lucid dream plays out. It’s so sweet and comforting when a lucid dream starts and you know you’re about to enjoy a magical, yet fleeting episode of your own mind’s narrative.

It’s so special that we have perfumers like Michael Schrammel, and the power of dreaming is something we should all revel in more often.

Hello from Florida, and happy dreaming!

  • wallygator88 says:

    Thanks for the lovely writeup.

I can imagine how difficult it is to work with citrus, that too once that is as complex as the pomelo. It’s interesting to see how Michael has balanced out the sweet facet with berries and rhubharb and then used the pomelo blossom to soften and round out the whole scent. Of particular interest was his mention of a light hand with the base notes.

I’ve had the chance to smell a few of the lucid dreaming series and would love to get my nose on this one,

    Cheers from WI, USA

Yes! I’ve sampled Dreaming in Oud as well as Dreaming in Tonka. Fell in love with Dreaming in Oud and I’m super curious to smell Dreaming in Pomelo. These notes sound amazing and would be a nice addition to my summer collection.

Love how Sandi broke it down into 3 Acts. A beautiful adventure into a sunny citrus grove. I’m intrigued.

  • Very interesting concept and beautifully described by Sandi. Dreaming in pomelo sounds very immersive and unique, especially since I have little to no experiences with pomelo based fragrances. Usually for me I rarely lucid dream, but in the off chance that I do it’s even less common for me to remember them. Overall this fragrance sounds like a beautiful journey in and of itself.

  • Both the perfumer and reviewer take us on a dream journey that is poetic and enticing. They also provide the historical background of the scent and other offerings from the house. I would very much enjoy taking a dream journey via this fragrance in hopes of wearing not just a fragrance but also a poetic inspiration.

  • I have never experienced Lucid Dreaming. The review set up as a Play in three acts was a nice division of dry down stages.

  • roxhas1cat says:

Sounds perfect for summer. Lately I’ve been obsessed with black currant. Love the photos selected for this piece. Did anyone else’s mind go to 1975 and the song “Dream Weaver”? Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • I’ve been looking forward to trying Michael’s new fragrances which both sound terrific for summer. His description about the challenges encountered while composing Dreaming in Pomelo is interesting; not overshadowing the central note in a perfume like this can be difficult, probably especially so with citrus that has to be fixed with heavier base notes. (I’m guessing the tangy blackcurrant and rhubarb combination here does just as much as the lightly-applied sandalwood, “grainy, textural amber and lofty musk”. Dreaming in Pomelo sounds wonderful. As for lucid dreaming, I’ve never experienced it.

I’m in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • I honestly think the rhubarb and lavender sound like a stroke of genius! I love Pomelo! Ever since I smelled Atelier Colognes take it’s been a love. I am actually wearing your Stone Roses today! I cannot wait to try this latest. It sounds *chefs kiss*.
I am located in California. Thank you for the giveaway.

I always enjoy reading fragrance reviews where the reviewer guides the reader on the journey on which the fragrance takes us. Sandy’s review completely captivated me, as if I were dreaming with her. The citrus and and rhubarb notes, along with the vetiver and sandalwood certainly sound dreamy.
I have experienced lucid dreaming, mainly of landscapes that I may have traversed in different lives.
    I live in the USA.
