Introduced at Esxence 2019, Perris Monte Carlo launched three new perfumes.  While Jasmin de Pays and Rose de Mai by Jean Claude Ellena garnered much of the accolades,  Perris Monte Carlo Arancia di Sicilia by Creative Director and perfumer Gian Luca Perris was one of our  personal favorites.

Last year at Esxence 2018, three sparkling fresh citruses debuted Perris Monte Carlo Bergamotto di Calabria (one of the  best of shows for the team), Cedro di Diamante and  Mandarina di Sicilia. Perris Monte Carlo Arancia di Sicilia is a departure from the previous trio which were in the bright and fresh category.  Central to this new fragrance is  Blood orange;  the most iconic citrus from Sicily, It is known as the Orange Sanguinella; bright red and is grown on the slopes of Mount Aetna.  Two complex methods are used to extract the oils- the first from the rind only and then later the entire fruit. In this succulent fragrance, the burst of the blood orange is at the top, but as it dries down it veers into gourmand territory with notes of coffee, vanilla, almond, cinnamon and amber. While it might seem the dessert aspect might be better for cooler weather, I find the warmth of the amber and the  contrast of coffee against the citrus suits my skin regardless of the season.     This fragrance sounds delicious. I do like the idea of a citrus fragrance that can be appropriate in brisket weather. I liked in the intro that it was explained how the oils are extracted both from the rind and the entire fruit it sounds like it would make for a jucier scent than if only from the rind. I enjoyed Sebastians description in his video of how the fragrance opens with just the blood orange but the vanilla almond and cinnamon notes come in quickly. From CT USA. Thanks.

I enjoyed the introduction because I like learning about the extraction process and never heard of Orange Sanguiella. Fascinating. I am eager to win this they really all smell well made.     Glad to hear about the unique twist on blood orange. Sebastian’s right, it can get a bit boring sometimes, but combine it with some tasty gourmand elements, and it quickly becomes a tantalizing affair. Michelyn’s description of enjoying a sweet treat in Sicily is a great comparison. Can’t say that I prefer lemons over oranges like Seb, but I absolutely love that it has coffee. Who says you can’t enjoy a good deep and rich gourmand in the summer eh? Canada.

    Orange is one of my favorite citrus notes, so hearing his take on how he feels it can be flat was interesting. I also know Sebastian is a gourmand lover, so hearing him describe how this fragrance is dessert-like appeals to me.     The Perfume House I adore most has created a scent centered around my all time favorite citrus – Blood Orange? Sounds like my years long search for the perfect Blood Orange is finally over given the wonderful way Sebastian illuminates how Arancia’s notes blend and progress!     Sebastian says Arancia di Sicilia is quite a juicy composition with prominent blood orange note. It also has gourmand elements, not common for a fragrance with primarily citrusy focus. I am in US.

    This fragrance definitely looks interesting. I really like Sebastian’s videos in general because he often reviews fragrances that aren’t normal generic designers or already well known niche houses. He also lives in the Bay Area which is where I’m also from so his descriptions for seasonality are well appreciated because I can relate. As mentioned, I live in the bay in California and definitely interested interested in this fragrance as I am a huge fan of gourmand scents with character.

    Overly hesperidic and freshie type fragrances are not really my thing, but I do love the smell of oranges. After watching Sebastian’s review, it’s certain that this fragrance would be something I would love, with the citrus being rendered with a more cozy, gourmand emphasis in the dry down. This would certainly evoke imagery of sitting in an outdoor cafe somewhere in Sicily, eating some pastries, sipping an espresso, and smelling orange trees all around you.     I enjoyed Sebastian’s review of Arancia de Sicilia, I agree with him that orange notes can be comforting, but I disagree with him that they are flat compared to other citrus notes. I love oranges they are like a burst of energy to me, they wake me up. But this scent is definitely sounds like its more of a fall scent, with the vanilla and cinnamon, reminds, hot fall beverage. Spiced Orange Tea! I live in the USA!

    I’m a fan of citrus notes as well as coffee and reading the note breakdown of this fragrance really intrigued me as it includes both notes, in addition to many of my other favorites. The idea of a citrus-gourmand sounds amazing and I would love the opportunity to smell this fragrance. Michelyn’s introduction is very informative and I enjoyed learning about the extraction process. I appreciate Sebastian’s reviews as he’s always straight to the point and does a great job describing fragrances to his viewers so we can get a good idea of what the scent is like prior to purchasing. One of my favourite perfumes is Atelier Colognes Orange Sanguine (I just finished one!) as I use it in the winter for a cheerful pick me up 🙂 This sounds like an interesting twist on blood orange with the coffee & amber notes that I think I will love in winter and based on Michelyn’s intro I could like in the summer too!     I like both Sebastian’s and Michelyn’s comments. When I have eaten them, blood oranges have a very specific flavor and I would like to see if that is captured in the fragrance. I like that this doesn’t sound at all synthetic, which to me spells death in a citrust fragrance. I am in the US, in North Carolina.

    When Sebastian describes a fragrance as deep, rich and gourmand, you can take that to the bank. Depth is what turns me on to a fragrance, not the number of notes or transitions. Michelyn’s analogy of enjoying a sweet treat, perhaps an iced coffee and an orange tart on a warm afternoon in Sicily, sealed my interest. Who would say no to that? Loving life in Monterey, USA.

    I would love to try! I have used hermes eau de merveilles during summer weather, so I believe that this would also be fitting. I wonder if it would have a bitter hint with using the rind oils?     It’s interesting that the blood orange note is used by Michelyn since I don’t have any perfume with that in my very small collection, and the fact that Sebastian mentioned this to be more a fall scent for something that is citrusy. I am use to citrus scents to be more for the summer and am interested to smell how this scent is more suited for the fall. I do reside in the USA.

    Blood Orange – almond gourmand ? I love when some houses throw some curveballs at us. Because of the notes and the review i do agree with Michelin statement about this new beauty being more suitable for the colder weather.
    I was not able to go to Esxence 2019, so i’m not familiar with Arancia Di Sicilia , but i’ve sampled most from the brand , and imo Bois d‘Oud is by far the best one i know, and a must have for me for the late autumn-winter season.

    I could be wrong but I think there was an article on Fragrantica saying that the whole Italian Collection was made with both Gian Luca Perris and Luca Maffei .
    Proud owner of Absolue d’Osmanthe Extrait. I can’t describe how much I love this fragrance. To be honest it was a gift-it’s really expensive. I know some other offerings by Perris Monte Carlo – Bois d’Oud , Cacao Azteque and Oud Imperial.

    I was so excited when I heard about this fragrance coming out, since I love everything I’ve ever tried from Perris Monte Carlo, but I didn’t even realize the ‘arancia’ in ‘Arancia di Sicilia’ was a blood orange, a ‘sanguinello’, until I saw Sebastian’s review! This is a welcome surprise, as I love all things blood orange. The gourmand-ish nature of the fragrance sounds unique and delicious- Sebastian describing the almond, vanilla, and cinnamon rushing in to meet the blood orange does indeed call to mind a mouthwatering dessert! I agree that it sounds like it could be a bit much on a hot summer’s day, but that certainly wouldn’t stop me from trying it on a cooler summer evening the minute I got the chance 🙂 I am so excited about this drawing and would love to win this amazing perfume! I am in the US 🙂

    Just watched sebastian’s review and im really intrigued. I always loves bright citrus fragrances and they are always my jam. I wear them even in winter just to feel rejuvenated and remind myself back in summer. This fragrnace really hits all the notes i look for in fragrance and would love to have an opp to try it. I live in the u.s.

    I already know Arancia de Sicilia and I love it! Sebastian is right – it is not typical orange citrus fragrance, but it is much more thanks to almond, amber and cinnamon.

    How intriguing! A cozy citrus! Sebastian certainly piqued my interest. This review also reminded me of the first time I ever drank blood orange juice. It was in a cafe in Siena. It is still the most delicious beverage I have ever drunk….and I remember the almond-filled pastries there….I very much want to try this one.

    Arancia Di Sicillia sounds like it’s bespoke perfume made for my girlfriend. Not only she loves coffee , amber , citruses and almond fragrances , but she does have one with both called Pegasus .
    I’m 100% sure she’ll love Arancia Di Sicillia just as much , if not more.
    I never knew there are fragrances did this way . I mean the extraction of oils from both the rind , and the fruit. Thanks Michelyn – good to know.
    If I happen to be the winner I’ll give my girlfriend the bottle.
    Personally I do not own Perris Monte Carlo fragrances , but I know Cacao Azteque well. My future brother in law bathes in it haha. Smell like hot Mexican chocolate – it’s really good.
    We are all Sebastian subscribers , no need to ask in my opinion.

    I don’t know how Sebastian is doing this, but after watching his reviews on YouTube I feel like I’m urged to smell the fragrance his reviewing. If I have to be precise 12 fragrances from my collection I bought because of his reviews.
    Blood Oranges from the very start , to coffee gourmand dry down. Unusual combination, but I have a feeling I’ll enjoy Arancia Di Sicilia quite a bit.
    I think Michelyn have a point-this fragrance will work wonders in cooler weather.

    Sebastian review instantly reminded me of Almond Crumble Coffee Cake, Double Coffee Panna Cotta with orange peels and a few more Coffee flavored desserts with both almonds and orange 🙂 In some parts of Europe espresso flavored desserts are really popular, but not so much in the States unfortunately.
    Can’t help it – Pastry Chef in me is going forward.
    Mouthwatering review I really enjoyed.
    The way Perris Monte Carlo is extracting the oils It’s just old fashion way . It’s been done in counalierie ( or if you prefer culinary, depends where you live) for centuries.
    It’s more expensive, and time consuming, and I was surprised when I heard about what they are doing. Props to Perris Monte Carlo for doing it.
    It was important topic when I was studying, being a novice , and then working under Pierre Herme in France , considered to be top 5 Pastry Chef and chocolatier in the world.

    Thanks for this great review, Sebastian! An interesting description- a mix of blood orange, almonds, vanilla, amber… I always associate gourmand with the cooler season and I like what Michelle said- ‘While it might seem the dessert aspect might be better for cooler weather, I find the warmth of the amber and the  contrast of coffee against the citrus suits my skin regardless of the season’. I don’t have any perfume like this and I’m excited to try it. Thanks for this opportunity! – CA, USA

    Excellent review by Sebastian! I love that he said that it was a citrusy gourmand and for me citrus scents can be hit or miss. I also love that it can also be worn in the colder months.     I have tried and sample many from this line my absolute favorite was and still is Taif Rose and my wife loves Osmanthus on me. I recently ordered samples of the citrus with blood orange can’t wait to receive it in the mail.
