Dee April, founded in Denmark in 2016 by Dorte Agergaard, who works with luxuries materials, including silk and leather, creating elegant and minimal accessories. They have has recently moved into the world of fragrance in collaboration with renowned perfume studio Flair Paris. One of my favourite perfumers, Margaux Le Paih Guérin is behind all three of Dee April’s perfumes, she beautifully captures the feeling of wearing beautiful materials, giving each perfume a sleek minimal feel, that’s dark and sexy in its own way. Each of Dee April’s Parfums is housed in a sleek minimal black bottle and box, with only the number defining them. Dee April Parfum I and II were released late last year, Dee April Parfum made my Best of Scents list 2024 and so I’m focusing on this dark gem.

Dee April Parfum glows with a citrus green light as gentle woods add depth, teasing out the edges. These woods soon ooze with a wild smile of trouble. A dank weed aroma seeps from the wood, humming with a gentle spice with musky herbal greens feeling peppery while a gentle clove warmth glows in the back. It darkens before this weed aroma fully blooms, turning into a beautiful abstract feeling of soft suede leather cloth slowly wrapping itself around you, capturing the narcotic smokiness as it embraces you. Nutmeg gives the leather that stunning suede nap texture of the reverse of leather, a dry slightly rough silkiness that slides seductively over your skin. Subtle citruses a feel like stars shimmering in this leathery night sky as a sweet rich fiery violet starts to blaze up.

Violet’s floral sweetness brings a new element to Dee April Parfum, its morphs from the fresh citrus and woods of bergamot growing leafy greens like two glowing eyes. You feel its powdery velvet touch with sweet woody lips as more darker facets reveal themselves. Oud is giving a quiet depth to all the woods while the first plumes of smoke slowly rise through a gentle saffron steam. The violets floral side turns darker with a rich feel and gentle animalic intensity in a musky way. Dee April Parfum’s middle section feels like kitten fur with a naughty purr vibrating lightly from the violet and iris. In the air around you it’s soft and alluring but get more intimate with Dee April Parfum and its wild side whispers of carnal desire. This beautiful desire slowly gets wrapped in more dark smoke, as the leather grows nearer.

As the dry down hits that luxurious leather softens around you like you have slipped on a high-end item of clothing. The sandalwood’s creaminess expands the violet and iris’ softness feeling like a smooth skin with a gentle layer of smoke between it and the leather. It’s packed full of rich aromas that are balanced skillfully, not taking away from the sensation of a soft embrace but rather giving Dee April Parfum a complex depth that has an elegant flow and sillage. Its smoky leather woods linger in the through the spaces your been.  Nocturnal whispers of tobacco and oud with a touch of oakmoss feel sexy, like a flirtatious look across a bar, one that lingers giving you a warm fuzzy feeling that hits you in the chest and moves over your body in a wave. Saffron adds a glint to the eye, a little shimmer with a warm clean stream with a touch of dry nutmeg spice adding darker stars to the leather sky. Vetiver and guaiac wood wrap these shimmering stars in their gentle smokiness, its softly woody with a gentle rootiness with delicious overtones of vanilla that only fully reveals itself the next day as cosy creaminess glows after the leather jacket has been removed. Violet is always there, it’s close to you, whispering in your ear keeping that dark yet controlled sweet intensity at the heart.

Margaux Le Paih Guérin uses textures in stunning ways in Dee April Parfum, it captures the sensation of smooth buttery leather moving gently over your skin and is paired with a soft elegant powdery smokiness. Dee April Parfum flows in a very sensual way that feels sexy and alluring thanks to some beautiful musks. It’s dark with sweet glimmers, while also strong yet has the kind of embrace you’d melt into.

It’s like a minimal sculpture polished into a sheen with smoke adding a mysterious atmosphere. It fits beautifully with Dee April’s aesthetic feeling: very considered. This is the kind of perfume that catches your eye, holds your stare and then never leaves your mind as you quietly obsess over its sexy allure. Dark smoky leather, with powdery woods and a wink of sweet floral trouble. Love it!
