CoSTUME NATIONAL Scent Intense Review (Laurent Bruyere) 2002 + Timeless Tea Draw

Costume National Scent Intense review

Fragrance and fashion have gone hand in hand since 1925 when Coco Chanel launched CHANEL no 5. CoSTUME NATIONAL is an Italian fashion house founded in 1986 by designers Ennio and Carlo Capasa. The House is known for its urban” rocker” chic with slim and sexy silhouettes. The vibe may be avant- garde but they are masters of Italian craftsmanship.

The sleek bottle is Ennio Capasa’s sculpture reproduced in glass and was inspired by the human silhouette. Well-known to fashionistas, but not so much to perfumistas are CosTUME National’s perfumes. The flacons are a study of minimalism, but the fragrances are more complex (the first was Scent which debuted in 2002) then reimagined the same year as CoSTUME NATIONAL Scent Intense, which is darker and more ambery with a pronounced tea and spicy aroma. It is both classic and contemporary almost 20 years later. –Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

Notes include: bergamot, amber, woods, jasmine, green tea, leather, sandalwood, rose, sandalwood, ambergris, cardamom, mother of pearl hibiscus, vanilla, patchouli

Perceived note: Cinnamon

  • Steven always describes fragrances in an elegant and elocuent way. I loved the introduction from Michelyn. This fragrance looks so intriguing and exiting with the the amber and tea notes. I´d love to try it myself. I am in U.S.A.

  • I enjoyed the description and review that Steve from Redolessence did and from the notes description I think I’d enjoy this scent

  • This sounds really lovely. I’m drawn the fact that it’s a cozy and meditative scent but without being a sweet vanilla amber. I also am quite enamored by the simple and elegant bottle design and enjoyed that Michelyn mentioned it’s one of the owners sculptures which was the inspiration. These Italians are definitely not lacking in style! I’m curious about tea scents and have never heard of this house for perfume. Thank you for the reviews and the draw. Brooklyn,NY.

I love Steven’s enthusiasm and passion for fragrance. He has a whimsical love of fragrance that really draws me into watching his videos. There’s a twinkle in his eyes when he discusses fragrances that he really loves that is rarely seen in other Youtube reviewers. I’ve never smelled any fragrances from this house, so I would love the opportunity to win! I love tea fragrances, my favorite being Jo Malone London’s Earl Grey & Cucumber but this one, based on Steven’s review, sounds delightful.

  • Steven’s review had me wanting to try this Fragrance. Michelyn’s introduction “both classic and contemporary” The Notes sound

  • I have an appreciation for black tea in fragrances, but would love to expand into one using green tea. As of yet, I’ve yet to try anything by CoStume National, but feel sure that the good quality of this classic yet contemporary creation by Ennio and Carlo Capasa is as smooth, lightly vanillic (thankfully) and “meditative” as Steven’s positive-leaniing video suggests. Going into the winter, I’d love to wear it along with some well-chosen outfits.

  • I like Scent Intense quite a bit and would not have guessed it was 20 years old. And I just adore their bottle design which feels contemporary. It is interesting to hear reviews of something I know because I always learn something. I liked Steven’s reference to hibiscus, which I guess tempers the sweetness? This reads dryish to me and I really enjoy it. I’d love to win a full bottle! USA

  • CoSTUME NATIONAL describes scent intense as a rock and roll fragrance which I find really intriguing. Steve describes the combination of cinnamon and green tea as tranquil and soothing. Additional base notes of amber, leather accord, and patchouli deepen the cold weather scent while florals such as hibiscus and jasmine, and amber at the heart provide light. I appreciate that Steven mentioned it can be unisex for all ages, as I would love to try this as a woman! Michelyn mentioned a minimalist emphasis with this brand which I can note in the gorgeous bottle, as well as the style looks on their website. I absolutely love tea notes in fragrance, and would love to test this one out for the winter! From USA.

  • I’m well aware of both CoSTUME NATIONAL, and the sister company Jusbox , 2 brands under the same hat

“Well-known to fishionistas , but not so much to perfumistas”

For the most part yes , with the exception of Soul, at least amongst men it’s quite popular.

“The fragrances and the flacons are a study of minimalism”

It’s a matter of perception i guess, personally I wouldn’t call most CoSTUME NATIONAL fragrances minimalistic, especially Homme , Homme Parfum , Soul and 21

“which is darker and more ambery with a pronounced tea and spicy aroma. It is both classic and contemporary”
    I agree 100%
I get more amber and woods, rather than Tea. On me Scent Intense feels dark , and smoky especially in the base.
I do own Soul by the way
    Thanks a lot

  • Always love hearing Steven review fragrances. What intrigued me the most was his description of Scent Intense as both “tranquil” and “meditative” by its use of cinnamon and tea notes (2 of my faves). Cozy fragrances are absolutely some of my favorites. One thing I found fascinating that Michelyn mentioned was how Chanel No. 5 has been around for nearly a century. That’s pretty incredible given how it’s stood the rest of time in terms of popularity and revere. Would love to try this one from CoSTUME NATIONAL so thanks for the opportunity! Cheers from Illinois!

  • Wow.. Cinnamon and tea combination is interesting combo and looking forward to win Giveaway and wear it..

  • I learned that Ennio was responsible for the bottle design. Steven gave a great description of the fragrance. When he said it’s a meditative green tea and cinnamon fragrance I know I would like it. ~Indiana

  • Michelyn, I learned so much about this brand! I really didn’t know any details about this house so it was nice to learn that it is two brothers working together. The bottles are beautiful so it was nice to learn what they represent.

I absolutely LOVE tea fragrances and this one is special because it is a type I don’t have. I loved Steven’s description of CoSTUME NATIONAL Scent Intense being zesty and deep smooth tea. I love the accent of cinnamon. I’m really very excited about this one.

Thank you for the review and the giveaway. In the USA.

  • I learned some of the origins of CoSTUME NATIONAL. I enjoy the verbal description of the notes. US

  • There need to be more green tea fragrances. Thanks Steven for bringing this to my attention and how interesting to find out they started as a fashion house but as Michelyn says, fragrance and fashion go hand in hand.

  • Tea scents are often too subtle. From the name and from what Steven says this one is not subtle. It really sounds like an amazing winter scent. What sticks with me from Michelyn’s intro is a recombination of her words. An Avant Garde Slim Sexy Italian Sillhouette. I am in the US.

  • I didn’t know that Costume National Scent Intense is one of the original releases from Costume National. I have their Costume National Homme and I thought that is the first one. Steven says it has prominent but smooth notes of cinnamon, tea, and amber and later patchouli also appears. Steven considers it a cold-weather fragrance. I am in US.

  • I didn’t realize that CoSTUME NATIONAL was started by two Italian brothers. I haven’t tried any fragrances from this house, but Steven’s review has me interested. I’m a fan of tea scents, and cinnamon, so definitely count me in. Thanks again for a great draw. Mich USA

  • Enjoyed reading about Michelyn’s short historical note about Costume National and the description of Scent and Scent Intense. Steven’s video as usual described Scent Intense very well. I like that it is not sweet, despite Amber and vanilla in the base. Scent Intense seems cozy, soothing and perfect for Christmas holidays and for the winter months that will follow. I am a Redolessence subscriber and enjoy Steven’s videos. Thanks for the draw. From USA.

  • My first clash so to speak, with Costume National was when I blind bought Soul . Saw so much positive reviews on YouTube I had to get it. Usually I don’t like buying fragrances without sampling, but the it was worth it ,Soul is niche quality on mid level designer prices.
Steven take on Scent Intense reminded me of making, and eating Apple Cinnamon Tea Cake, and drinking tea at home.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • Kenneth Sears says:

I simply love what Steven says about this scent being tranquil, serene and meditative. I’m mad for olibanum and also for tea. And I’m especially attracted to what he says about the scent’s resinous and not too sweet (or vanillic) impression. I love that. Not much of a fan of vanilla (unless it’s in ice cream), nor in fact would I want to smell like a Red Hot, so I also love what Steven says about the cinnamon’s gentle spiciness. All in all, it just sounds perfect. Including the resinous, not overly sweet, amber. (From Texas)

  • Love the bottle design by Ennio Capasa! It’s elegant and completely gender neutral. I appreciate Steven’s thorough and enthusiastic review of the tea scent. His description of this as a tranquil and meditative fragrance makes me want to try it for this hectic season.

  • Really appreciated the intro on the brothers who started it I always thought they were French
I really liked Steven review of costume National Scent Intense because he said it was meditative

  • I really enjoyed Steven’s review. What a wonderful description of it being a spicy, tea fragrance. I don’t own anything in my collection that is that style. And I also have never tried anything from Costume National.
    I live in the USA.

  • What a delight this fragrance seems to be! I am struck by Michelyn’s mention of the house’s avant-garde craftsmanship. Notes that are slightly unusual or formulations that seek to redefine a fragrance genre excite me. Steven’s mention of the combination of hibiscus + green tea fits this description well. My favorite tea at the moment is the triple caffeinated Zest Tea’s Blue Lady black tea with hibiscus and citrus. I bet this fragrance would be a dream to wear as I sip upon it in the morning.

  • One of my favorite fragrances is “Costume National Homme Parfum”. I’d love to try other fragrance releases from this company. In regards to this fragrance, i.e. “Scent Intense”, I’m intrigued to try it when Steven described it as sweet, tranquil, incensy, and ambery because I enjoy those kinds of things in a fragrance. I’m interested in seeing how the hibiscus makes it, at least, somewhat unconventional. I appreciated learning about this designer/fragrance house from reading Michelyn’s intro. I would truly love to win this prize. I live in MD., U.S.A. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  • Michael Prince says:

I enjoyed Steven’s detailed review of Costume National Scent Intense. I love how he portrayed this spicy cinnamon tea fragrance with a very ambery core that relies heavily on resins such as Benzoin or Labdanum instead of Vanilla. This also has some extra depth from the Incense and Patchouli as well. I would love to wear something like this in the fall and winter months. I also loved Michelyn’s introduction where I learned about Italian fashion house Costume National which was founded in 1986 by designers Ennio and Carlo Capasa. I also learned how the bottle design was inspired by human silhouettes. I am from the USA.

  • Bryant Worley says:

Both Steven’s review and Michelyn’s opening were quite informative, but Michelyn’s intro gave more background and was slightly ‘smoother’.

This fragrance sounds like something my nose would appreciate.

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • I know Costume National as a fashion designer house, but don’t know their fragrances.
“The House is known for its urban” rocker” chic with slim and sexy silhouettes.”
Actually 7-8 years ago, Costume National were known as upscale urban brand, with Tom Ford-ish kind of look, but now more of their clothing is baggy and orientated to younger people . By younger i mean teen , up to 26-27.
Tea is one of my favorite notes in perfumery ,Scent Intense i can wear all year round .
Classic and contemporary, that’s me , each and every day.
    Thank you all

  • What i like in Scent Intense , is how tranquil, and serene it is. The tea , the amber and the smoky parts I find quite interesting, and appealing.
So that’s how the bottles came to be, sculpture reproduced and made available to us , the buyers.
    Nice giveaway, USA
    Regards

  • For years i knew Costume National is a clothing brand , I love my leather jacket , and black dress , but I learned first on Cafleurebon they also have fragrances.
I know all Jusbox fragrances since the 2 companies are related , and Green Bubble, Beat Cafe , Golden Serenade, Siren & Sailors are all really good.I was able to smell all while in Germany. The two Costume National fragrances I know are Homme, and Homme Parfum.
Smooth soft tea , leather and sandalwood = winner if it’s done well , and I believe Scent Intense is done well.
    Thanks for the draw.

  • Lovely review and article! What I enjoyed about Steven’s review is hearing his view on how the smooth, meditative nature of the tea in the heart of the fragrance is complemented by the smoothness of the amber in the base. It makes the scent sound very calming, warming, and relaxing. What I learned from Michelyn’s opening is that the bottle is Ennio Capasa’s sculpture inspired by the slim and sexy human silhouette that is the center of his fashion house. I live in the US and I am a Redolessence subscriber.

  • “The sleek bottle is Ennio Capasa’s sculpture reproduced in glass and was inspired by the human silhouette.”
That only shows his level of creativity. As a biker , and proud Ducati owner , i know he’s the creator of the clothing line Ducati logo , and at one point Costume National and Ducati had a clothing line together.
I’d also like to say “Soul” is one of my dad’s favorite fragrances , my husband wears it too.
Scent Intense is both serene, but also posh , and refined, I like it.
I’m drinking the famous Backyard Sweet Tea cocktail, it fits the theme perfectly. 2 cups of Earl Grey Tea, simple syrup, 1703 Master Select Rum , orange peel, and a small cup of the juicy is how I make it
    Cheers everyone
