Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence Review (Christèle Jacquemin) + Momentary Perfection Giveaway

Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence review

When I consider everything that grows

Holds in perfection but a little moment,

That this huge stage presenteth nought but shows

Whereon the stars in secret influence comment;

When I perceive that men as plants increase.

Cheered and check’d even by the selfsame sky.

Vaunt in their youthful sap, at height decrease,

And wear their brave state out of memory;

Then the conceit of this inconstant stay

Sets you most rich in youth before my sight,

Where wasteful Time debateth with Decay

To change your day of youth to sullied night;

And all in war with Time for love of you,

As he takes from you, I engraft you new.

Sonnet 15: When I consider everything that grows by William Shakespeare.

Impermanence III

The inspiration for Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence was created whilst visiting the Chinese Province of Jin Ze, a village in the suburbs of Shanghai where she was staying for a month as Artist in Residency. Madame Jacquemin recounts a time of purest happiness and well-being. Launched in 2019 Christele Jacquemin Impermanence was a finalist in the 2020 Art and Olfaction Awards.

When one considers the ebb and flow of life there are landmarks of deep immersion into the perfection of an instant. In our memories such times captured in the most crystalline photographs set in the exhibition of our minds eye. Considering such beauty, these images – like plants – grow with time and have a clarity to them so we cherish them and care for them with tenderness. Shakespeare’s Sonnet 15 explores preserving humans through verse and employs a gardening metaphor to explain the process. Throughout the sonnet the contradiction of momentary impermanence versus perpetuity clarified between the idea of ‘ingrafting’ a plant cultivated over time and set to bloom with new life in an instant and the idea of ‘engraving’ a human being into verse thus bringing a permanent and unchanging representation of grace and poise, the characteristics of a life well lived.

Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence represents these two dimensions as it is bright and effervescent whilst having a soothing aura which lasts incredibly on the skin. The opening is a vibrant and positive affair bringing back a photo-realism for me recently strolling across Hyde Park in London. Taking in the fountains admiring the curated gardens whilst sipping green tea on a balmy spring morning. Extracts of bergamot, mate and blue ginger immerse you in a fizzy energizing and optimistic mood. The beauty of this combination in tandem with Hinoki leaves is a deeply fresh and delicate experience bordering the spiritual side. Hinoki here acts as a bridge between the sparkling opening and the soothing base. The purity of the cypress adding a distinct charm to the scent which elevates it to a unique level.

Rosemary infuses with the hinoki to produce a deeply calming reassurance in Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence which captures a serene beauty like snap shots of momentary delight comparative to a subtle glance or the gentle caress of a hand whilst meandering through parkland. This essence of tranquil happiness enhanced by the introduction of palmarosa which extends the lemony and grassy nuance of the fragrance. An aspect of the scent which is incredibly important as it enables Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence to prolong its uplifting quality whilst harmonizing with the central theme of hinoki. This ability to combine fleeting experiences with timeless consistency is a wonderfully dichotomous concept by Christèle Jacquemin.

Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence VI

Whilst the uplifting quality of Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence continues to saunter throughout the mood moves slowly from sprightly to contemplative. Vetiver and violet create the strength and softness to round off the composition. Impermanence is the perfect title for a fragrance with such distinct and mindful qualities. It represents moments of clarity and alertness in times of flux and marries the citrus floral and woody nuances to create a timeless blend that will have you question its motives. One imagines from the opening that it will be a short-lived experience. However, Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence performs with a surprising longevity that keeps one enamored and interested just like the fondest memories.

Notes: Bergamot, Blue Ginger, Rosemary, Yerba Mate, Hinoki Leaves, Rose, Palmarosa, Vetiver, Violet Leaves.

I was most striked by the claim: “It represents moments of clarity and alertness in times of flux and marries the citrus floral and woody nuances to create a timeless blend that will have you question its motives.” Unfortunately, I haven’t tried anything from the house.

  • Impermanence sounds like the perfect zen fragrance. I believe happiness itself is a combination of calm and optimism. So could Impermanence even be the olfactive expression of happiness…?
The sparkling bergamot and ginger in the start and then the grounding rosemary, cypress and hinoki sound like a total experience to me.

  • I really love the notes breakdown of Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence and Karl reminiscing about sipping morning tea in Hyde Park: so uplifting, energizing, just perfect for incoming summer. It seems such bliss to visit a foreign county, have a time of purest happiness and well-being, and capture all these memories and feelings in perfume. 🙂

  • Nice review Karl! Everything Christèle Jacquemin is doing with scents is superb! And her travels bring out the best in pictures and in a fragrance form. Now is in a small village close to Shanghai, before were Barcelona, South of France. Impermanence show us two dimensions: a bright citrusy opening that with the help of Hinoki (central to all the fragrance) takes us to a new serene, soothing and calm place. Love Hinoki ( for me is the smell of green wood) that with tea, herbs and vetiver with rose and palmarosa (never smelled before) gave a serene and calm, like a zen feeling around me. I live in Spain, EU

  • Southirina says:

I didn’t know anything about hinoki so I googled it and found out it’s a forest deep fresh meditative scent.

  • I have heard about Christèle Jacquemins fragrances but never got my nose on them!

Hinoki (next to black pepper) is amongst my favourite fragrance notes; sadly I don’t encounter it enough, but I do love its sharp, dry yet bright scent. And as a big fan of woody aromatics, this fragrance sounds like a great match. I’d love to participate in the giveaway, thanks for the opportunity. I’m based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

  • sparklingwaterfan says:

Anything described as sparkling and fizzy has my interest. I was not familiar w/ the perfumer/brand previously. I am in the US.

  • Ginger, hinoki, and rosemary are among my favorite fragrance notes. It would be a blessing to sample this. I live in Illinois, USA. I am not yet familiar with Christèle Jacquemin. Thank you for hosting this giveaway!

  • Thanks for this wonderful article Karl!

After the cold months with plenty of sweet, thick and strong fragrances, the warmer months bring out the fresh, green, floral fragrances for me. What caught my attention from this review is the combination of citruses and the way the Rosemary and Hinoki produce a calming and serene experience. It sounds absolutely wonderful and perfect to wear these warmer months ahead!

I have Christèle Jacquemin’s Memory Lane and Meandering soul on my sample lists after reading the articles here on CaFleureBon, but I have not tried them yet. I hope to win Imermanence, otherwise this will be added to the list as well!

    Greetings from the UK!

  • Claumarchini says:

What a wonderful review by Karl! I have read all Cafleurebon’s article about Christele Jacquemin but – alas – I have not had yet the chance to try her creations, which sound all really beautiful. I love Karl’s parallelism with Shakespeare’s Sonnet n. 15 to describe the effort of making impermanence…more permanent, in the way Ms Jacquemin does with the fragrance. Interestingly enough, these days I had read about hinoki and am now determined to try fragrances based on this note, so I was really intrigued by Impermanence…which looks like a fantastic scent, that invites you to abandon yourself to nature in order to regain your balance: lovely!!! Greetings from Italy

  • Mirea Luca says:

I am not accustomed with the Hinoki note. I searched online and i see that the extracted oil is used as a remedy for stress and insomnia. Sounds so interesting. Also i adore the fact that vetiver is in the composition. Such a beautiful and complex fragrance. I live in Romania, EU.

  • “It represents moments of clarity and alertness in times of flux” sounds like just the thing! I am becoming familiar with Christele’s perfumes- they are really special. Thank you for the review, writing from the EU.

  • I just love the sound of this the sipping green tea, that it was composed from moments of happiness, the Hinoki, it sounds a perfect calming yet optimistic scent that I would love to try. I am happy I have a small travel size of Meandering Soul and definitely want to seek more out, gorgeous perfume. I am in U.K.

  • Amazing review! I love when words can transport me to another place or time! I’m not familiar with hinoki leaves note but it seems fresh, soothing… and all the notes combined makes a perfect fragrance!!! I’m not familiar with Christèle Jacquemin perfumes but it got my attention!!!! I would love to try it!!!! I’m from Massachusetts, USA.

  • Sparkling and soothing is a great combination for Impermanence. I’m afraid I am not familiar with Christele Jaquemin perfumes.

  • Just reading this review of Christele Jacquemin Impermanence by Karl is calming for me. And also uplifting. Unfortunately I haven’t tried Christele Jacquemin perfumes, yet. From the review, it seems her perfumes are absolutely beautiful and I would love to try them. Thanks for the review and draw. From USA.

  • Jake Dauod says:

What strikes me the most is that this fragrance lasts. It is so good to hear, especially because the notes are lighter. I love the story behind this perfume and how it influenced the note choices. I have not smelled any perfumes from this brand, however, I have heard of them in a previous CafleureBon review. I am so glad to see ginger in this fragrance, and I am quite intrigued by the yerba mate, hinoki leaves, and palmarosa (I don’t think I’ve smelt them before). Kind regards from IN, USA.

  • Describing it as a deeply fresh and delicate experience bordering the spiritual side strikes me most about this perfume. I still haven’t tried any, but I hope I will.

  • Great review, Karl – as always, if I may say so! Great description of the fragrance, I can almost smell it just by reading the review! What strikes me the most is a gorgeous note listing – Bergamot, Blue Ginger, Rosemary, Yerba Mate, Hinoki Leaves, Rose, Palmarosa, Vetiver, Violet Leaves! Wow, wow, wow! Sadly, I haven’t smelled anything from Christele Jacquemin, apart from reading the reviews on Memory lane and Meandering soul, but this also sounds incredible! I live in Croatia, EU.

The name of this perfume is mysterious and calming. I am expecting something pure, helping for meditation. Mate, Hinoki and violet leaves is a very inspiring combination of notes to me. I would love discovering it. I live in France, EU

  • this is such a beautiful name for a perfume, as it represents the fleeting experiences it induces.
it is also a great thing that Impermanence performs with longevity, makes you think about the memories left behind – of the fragrance itself, of moments in time, of highs and lows – it stays with you, but not forever.
not familiar with any of Christèle Jacquemin’s fragrances, sadly.
    living in EU.

  • Great selection of photos! I have not heard of this house befofe, but I think that Impermanence would be a good starting point.
    Thank you. Europe.

  • joetelegram says:

    Happy Tuesday! 🙂

It is true, we all wrestle with the impermanence of life. Because of this, we settle for living the “good life”, as it were. Everytime we apply a perfume, we think about this impermanence and the good life as well.

Jacquemin’s time in China seems well spent, as the asian inspiration really shows up–with the hinoki and tea inspiration infusion.

As this is my first introduction to Christèle Jacquemin’s work, I look forward to trying this out!

Thank you to Christèle Jacquemin for your generosity. Thank you CaFleureBon and Karl Topham for this venue and this review.

Thank you for the great review. I absolutely enjoyed learning about this fragrance through your review. The connection that you made between the energetic yet fleeting notes in the top to the contemplative and lasting base notes through the meditative hinoki leave and soothing mate was a wonderful allusion to the dichotomy that you alluded to.

I am not familiar with this house but have read reviews of past fragrances on CFB.

I loved Karl’s review of Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence. A Finalist in the 2020 Art and Olfaction Awards Impermanence was created while Christèle Jacquemin was visiting the Chinese Province Jin Ze. It sounds like a fresh, aromatic, and green tea based fragrance with woody and earthy undertones. This is something I would really love and appreciate. I love how Karl goes into such detail about the fragrance Impermanence and the perfumer Christèle Jacquemin. This is the first time hearing about Christèle Jacquemin and her line of fragrances. I am from the USA.

  • I am not familiar with Christèle Jacquemin perfumes, but after this glowing review I would love to be. I love notes of ginger and fizzy concoctions so I think I would enjoy this fragrance very much. Thank you for the opportunity to enter this draw; I live in the USA in the state of Virginia.

  • Sounds crisp and vibrant using bergamot and yerba mate. Sounds like a nice tea drink. I’m not familiar with Christele Jacquemin perfumes but they sound lovely.

  • I’ve certainly heard of Christele, and I’ve been wanting to try her collected works, but I haven’t had a chance to try anything from her yet. I am very intrigued to try this fragrance because of its list of notes and I can gather from Karl’s review that all of those notes are a part of the wearing experience. I would like to have a fragrance which is centered around hinoki. I live in the U.S.A.

  • wandering_nose says:

I am enchanted by the underlying concept behind Christèle Jacquemin’s creations – combining fleeting experiences with timeless consistency. Our times would need more fragrances made with that philosophy in mind. All that grows, flows and changes juxtaposed with the things that were, are and will remain. I am curious to smell hinoki as a perfume component as I love cypress as well as citrusy notes. I have not tried any of Christèle Jacquemin perfumes as of yet but thanks to CaFleureBon I am increasingly intrigued by them. Thank you from Dublin, Ireland, EU

  • sephrenia300 says:

Wonderful review Karl! What strikes me about Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence is the idea of a bright and effervescent fragrance that nevertheless lasts an incredibly long time on the skin. I definitely often feel disappointed by fresh bright fragrances very appropriate for the spring and summer almost always being so fleeting on the skin. The idea of fragrance combining vibrant bergamot, mate and blue ginger combined with smooth Hinoki and cypress woods sounds absolutely lovely for the hot spring and summer months.

I live in the US. I am familiar with Christèle Jacquemin perfumes and I am a big fan of Memory Lane.

  • Impermanence sounds like a complex fragrance. Bright and effervescent opening with soothing aura.
Hinoki acting as a bridge between the opening and the soothing base. An uplifting distinct and also mindful characteristics makes a beautiful spring fragrance.

  • Citrus, floral fragrances are what i am all about, especially in this time as the heat is rising big time. The vetiver seems to beautiful compliment this fragrance and the Hinoki note, not accustomed to, but i am sure that makes a star out of this creation. Beautiful reveiew! I live in EU.

  • I am very intrigued by the use of Palmrosa as the element which can extend the life of the calming citrus and green facets. To extend that tranquil feeling would be so lovely. I have yet to try a Christèle Jacquemin fragrance.

  • Excellently written review. What strikes me about Impermanence is the longevity of the opening with notes like ginger, bergamot. I am not familiar with the Christèle Jacquemin perfumes but would to get to know the perfumes. I live in USA.
