Top Ten Perfumes Of Fragrances 2025

Best 10 Fragrances of 2025 Sandi and Hernando

How did it get so late so soon? Once again, we find ourselves ready to close out another year as we look toward a new one. It has been a year that has asked many of us for courage. Fragrance became more than an accessory for many of us; it was memories bottled, armor for uncertain days, secrets shared with a friend, and also a quiet revolt when words are not enough. Perfumes are our collection of memories and moods; they soothe, provoke, or even transport us. Fragrances should feel like home, chosen not only for their composition but for how they make us feel when the world around us keeps changing, or perhaps when we want to change our surroundings. –Sandi Lundberg, Editor

Best Indie and artisan perfumes of 2025

In no particular order: Sandi’s Best 10 Fragrances of 2025

Hez Parfums 504 Extrait (Hez Binkowitz): 504 Extrait is particularly adept at conjuring place and mood without veering into cliché. I adore fragrances that evolve, divulging themselves to me slowly, as I discover new details with every wear. 504 is quintessentially New Orleans, spirited yet refined, and just a little mysterious. I find myself moving unhurriedly, paying attention to details, and enjoying each small, radiant moment. As I wear it, I feel both playful and poised, a little daring and wholly myself. @hezparfums

Scents of Man 1651 (Andrea Bryne): A must for rose lovers, this perfume balances centifloria and damascena facets, full-bodied and alive with bright red fruits, warm tea, and a soft, resinous heart. Dewy honeyed sweetness, and a caramelized, Turkish delight fruitiness weave through magnolia, jasmine, and amber, yielding an opulent bouquet. It is simultaneously vivid with light and steeped in antique depth. @scentsofman

The 7 Virtues Blackberry Lily (Angela Stavrevska and Julie Pluchet): It opens with a dark, fruity gleam of blackberry and blackcurrant, the dewy floral notes unfurl gently, while davana weaves a curious, herbaceousness through them. The warmth and sweetness of caramel blend with the base notes, settling the scent into a grounded, quietly resonant finish. It is a composition that lingers, soft and unmistakably intimate. Blackberry Lily was brought back in 2025 after loyal fans of the brand requested it. @the7virtues

Wit and West Caldera Flower (Whitney Swales): Caldera Flower is a memory poured into a fragrance. Step into paradise, the air bright with bergamot’s zest and neroli’s ethereal sweetness, ginger teases. Creamy gardenias joined by airy magnolia and sensual ylang-ylang cascading like nectar. Sandalwood grounding with warmth and the soft, fruity musk of ambrette complete this fragrance, culminating in a comforting, intimate finish. @witandwest

Nicolai Parfumeur-Createur Crème Ébène (Patricia De Nicolai): Saffron and cardamom open with a piquant spice suggesting warmth, as delicate white flowers and a whispered hint of cumin lend an intriguing gentleness. Dates and twin cedars bring honeyed resinous heart, softened by papyrus and sandalwood. Vanilla, patchouli, and white musk settle the base into a tender, subtly radiant tapestry that is personal and quietly noble.@nicolaiparfumeurcreateur

Darren Alan Perfumes Cuir De Russie (Darren Alan): Cuir de Russie is an exquisitely blended perfume paying homage to its predecessors while standing confidently on its own. It feels like I am donning a second skin; it empowers me and tells a story that needs no words. It is timeless yet refreshingly modern. Bright, floral, and deeper resinous notes create a well-rounded, dynamic, lavish scent. It is perfect for those who appreciate complexity in a fragrance and leaves a memorable, luxurious imprint. As I write this, I am reminded I need another bottle.@darren_alan_perfumes

Cypress Cove Evening At The Resort (Cecile Hua): Bergamot lifts with a bright, clean edge while lavender and pear-skin lend an aromatic freshness that feels tenderly modern; rich florals and rose unfold like velvet, nuanced and alive. Mahogany and nagarmotha bring a deep wood gravity, and a veil of musk lingers, elegant and radiant. @cypresscovellc

Statik Olfactive Scarlet Lady (Darren Alan): A vintage rose bouquet brightened by bergamot, rose de mai, and tuberose wrapped in a pillowy marshmallow hush before suede and a lipstick-tinged iris fold into a cool, bracing heart laced with gin and tobacco’s smoky sophistication. The finish turns desert-worn and intimate, sagebrush and cedarwood threaded with a patina of vintage musk, create a wild west elegance that feels weathered, sensual, and utterly alive. @statikolfactive

Neil Morris Fragrances Shimmering (Neil Morris): Shimmering’s quiet power lies in suggestion rather than spectacle, subtle, not intense, it lingers at the edges of moments, lifting them with a radiant, tender grace, as a graceful form of solace. Its sincerity feels transcendental, warming memory not by force but like an unnoticed current of unconditional devotion.

Maison Tahite Tonka Rouge (Sébastien Cresp): A warm opening with Cherry liqueur that is playful and intimate, tonka’s creaminess folds with the tartness of raspberry. A thin thread of licorice adds a quiet depth to vanilla and brandy’s soft, boozy consolation, anchored in woody sandalwood. A subtly radiant composition that lingers gently. @maisontahite

New York City is so back as the top retail destination. If you can’t find what you are looking for at the numerous fragrance destinations, then maybe it might not be worth your purchase. Some new offerings: starting downtown, the new French department store Printemps, Estée Lauder’s four new boutiques side by side on Prince Street: Kilian Paris, Jo Malone, Tom Ford, and Frederic Malle, along with Christophe Laudamiel’s boutique, Naked Ghosts, are must-stops. In Midtown, the recently opened Trudon and Creed in Rockefeller Plaza, and Guerlain’s Park Avenue Fragrance Boutique are wonderful additions to the area. Further up on the Upper East Side, the new Parfums de Marly and the recently relocated Frederic Malle boutique are not to be missed visits on Madison Avenue. There has never been a better time to be a fragrance shopper in the city, whether you are a local or a tourist. We Love New York! – -Hernando Courtright. Best 10 Fragrances of 2025 (Hernando)

KELLY+JONES Mezcal Azul (Steven Claisse and Kelly Jones) For Azul, Kelly journeyed to Oaxaca, into the agave fields, and captured the fragrance of various types of Mezcal and its unique range of tasting notes. The opening of Agave embers throws off a refreshingly sweet, earthy, aquatic aroma, with a cooling citrus note that adds an invigorating element. Azul wears close to your skin; it can be very worn in the heat of the day and the cool of the night. Like the desert, Azul’s beauty lies in its simplicity. For Kelly, heaven is the essence of sipping Mezcal under a clear, deep blue desert sky. Azul transports me there. @kellyandjones @slclaisse

Parfums Quartana Beaut’Air (Christina Christie) Beaut’Air’s maiden notes of citrus, grapefruit, and Lemon are pure morning glory. An exultation of sunny days with feel-good vibrations. These notes are all light, with no shade. The grapefruit here is soft and brings a cleansing aura, supporting the mental-physical connection. The composition and focus are designed to inspire healing and foster an overall sense of wellness, positivity, and abundance. The scent lies close to the skin, so wear this without qualm, day or night. And you will be better for it.  @parfums_quartana @christinaperfume

Cognac Reign D.S. & DURGA (David Seth Moltz) Cognac Reign holds court for this time of the year, Autumn. David Moltz conjures up a few tricks and treats here. The tricks are in the notes, some that don’t outwardly shed light on what’s brewing in the potion here. The caramelized bergamot opening fuses to produce an amuse-bouche confection of dark chocolate with caramel, bringing on an Earl Grey-like nimbus. The sweetness crossed with the wood imparts a dichotomy of flavors, rolling back and forth. A royal, luxurious perversion manifests itself after a period of wear. This is my kind of treat. @dsanddurga

Creed Oud Zaraian (Cécile Zarokian) Oud Zaraian is that rich, spicy, and opulent scent that I was searching for. It is light and dark and old and new, at the same time. The draw for me here is that the 80-year-old oud is kept in check. This is not another boorish oud. Also, it may not be for everyone, so you won’t smell like everyone. This might be one of the most long-lasting fragrances I have encountered in some time, and I’m all for it. Two favorite notes, patchouli and rose centifolia, interlace in a most luxurious and regal manner. And it’s unlike any scent in the Creed library. Bravo Cécile! @creedfragrance @cecilezarokianparfumeur

Bond No.9 Chic (Miroslav Petkov) Unlike most Bond No. 9 fragrances, this one does not capture a neighborhood’s vibe, but rather encapsulates the city’s aura. Big and bold and so addictive. Intense and attention-grabbing, that speaks uptown chic all the way. Sweet, woody, fruitiness dripping in honey (but not listed as a note). Opulent is the keyword here. Leans feminine. The cognac and patchouli notes give this that late-night out on the town booziness I remember so fondly from my younger years.@bondno9ny @miroslav.petkov_perfumer

Byredo Alto Astral (Jérôme Epinette): I almost pulled away when informed that there was a coconut water note here (no fan am I) when testing it. Glad I overlooked it and wore it out. What I discovered was a magnificent, effervescent fragrance. Apparently, it takes its name from a Brazilian Portuguese expression that evokes the feeling of joy, optimism, and good vibes that uplift everyone around. I can attest to that. A superb summer scent that I imagine will certainly lift one out of the winter doldrums. Note to self, must get to Brazil.  @officialbyredo

Balmain Blanc Galaxie (Rodrigo Flores-Roux) Blanc Galaxie, the latest release from the Les Éternels de Balmain collection. is encased in a white striated bottle that is inspired by that of Élysées 64-83. Master perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux delivers a fragrance built on a total alignment of five citruses that are meant to evoke the brilliance of an eclipse. This citrus explosion is so right on for the warmer months of Spring and Summer. So uplifting. The creamy dry down is luscious. This could be my favorite new citrus.  @balmainbeauty  @rodrigofloresroux

Hermès Barénia Eau de Parfum Intense (Christine Nagel), ok, the original was close to being on my Top Ten last year, but something held me back. This is the one I wanted! Christine Nagel has masterminded a more intensified fragrance than the original with a richer patchouli, a more profound oakwood note, and a more prominent leather note. This comes out right out of the gate as a more robust, sensual, and darker reading of the original with added longevity. Housed in the signature Hermès gem-like bottle that was inspired by the Collier de Chien bracelet, this is true luxury you can’t afford to miss. @hermes

Infiniment Coty Paris Ambre Antique 1905: Where do I even start here? First off, this is an out-of-this-world recreation of the 1905 Ambere Antique. Bridging past and present, Infiniment Coty Paris revives an icon from its archives with the reissue of Ambre Antique. This collector’s item is a limited run of 1,905 units. So, how do you recreate a timeless classic? Well, I won’t get into how it was rebuilt; that is a story in itself. Launched in late October, Coty’s timing could not have been better. The warm, textured, and nostalgic Ambre Antique transports me back. For sure, hands down, this is the best Amber of 2025 @infinimentcoty

Dior La Collection Privée Rose Star (Francis Kurkdjian): And here’s my rose. A beautiful modern, not a fusty or old-fashioned rose. Francis Kurkdjian reveals Dior’s radiant new perfume inspired by Heritage and Hope. In Rose Star, he fuses two of Dior’s most poetic emblems—the beloved Centifolia rose and Christian Dior’s guiding star. It’s pale, transparent, and infused with light. It radiates the clarity and the soft beauty of both the flower and the celestial body it’s named after. Kurkdjian composed the scent so that it remains unchanged even hours after application, like a star that does not flicker. @diorbeauty @franciskurkdjian_official

Best 10 Fragrances of 2025 Hall of Fame: Olfactory Art Keller

It was with sadness that I learned Olfactive Art Keller has shuttered. The Manhattan-based gallery space dedicated to exhibiting scent as an art form was founded by Dr Andreas Keller. While not a nose or a perfumer in the traditional sense, he was obsessed with ‘smell’ as the stimulus for conversation, memory, and experience. The gallery sought to encourage artists working in all mediums to experiment with scents and perfumers to create scents as objects of aesthetic experience by providing a dedicated exhibition space for olfactory art in Manhattan. The experimental gallery opened in 2021 in New York’s Chinatown, examining how ‘smell’ can become an art piece.  In collaboration with artists, he curated customized olfactory exhibits for presentation in the space.  Artists that “performed” there include Perfumer David Falsberg (who passed away earlier this month), Irina Adam, Carlos Benaim, Christina Christie, Mackenzie Reilly, Stephen Dirkes, Darryl Do, Alexis Karl, Maria McElroy, Christophe Laudamiel, and David Seth Moltz. New York lost something it did not know it had. Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone. @olfactory_art_keller

  • Happy new year everyone! Would love to win Scarlet lady, lipstick and marshmellows and champgane feel like the perfect notes for this ocasion. Im from eu

  • What a warm, inviting list from Hernando and Sandi. What immediately drew me in was how personal the selections felt—less like a ranking and more like an invitation to experience what moved them this year. The descriptions made the fragrances feel approachable and full of heart.

I’ve tried (and loved) Blackberry Lily and Alto Astro. If I were lucky enough to win, I’d be most excited to experience Shimmering because I’ve never sampled a Neil Morris frag before.

One line that really stayed with me was the idea that a perfume can feel like a memory waiting to happen. 🙂

I’m in the USA. Good luck to everyone who enters!

  • TheScentedPage says:

Two more beautiful lists. I’m a bit biased towards Hernando’s since I added Hermès Barénia Eau de Parfum Intense to my collection this year. My husband gifted me the Byredo Discovery Set and Alto Astral is a beautiful scent that I keep coming back to.

Since I just won a drawing I just want to say good-luck to everyone. May the perfume odds be ever in your favor.

  • wonderscent.mari says:

Thank you so much, Sandi and Hernando, for sharing your favorites! Wishing you both a fantastic and a great frag New Year!
The picks i found most interesting were 504 Extrait by Hez Parfums. I love fragrances that evoke a sense of place are always an interesting olfactory journey and also the description of the spices and jazz find it quite interesting.
Another one that want to try is Creme Ebene Intense by Nicolaï Parfumeur-Createur. It sounds like something I would enjoy, especially in colder days.
I am interested in how the cream accord is blended with dark woods, spices and sensual white florals. It just sounds delicious, warm and comforting.
Lastly a house that I want to explore their fragrances is D.S. & Durga. Cognac Reign sounds a quite devine gourmand with these caramelized bergamot and vanilla notes which combined with almond, cinnamon and tonka.
A very interesting fragrance that I would choose also for this generous giveaway is Scarlett Lady by Statik Olfactive. I love rose and I wear perfumes with roses most of the time. The lipstick accord that gives the vintage character to this scent and the idea of gin, tobacco and these body Musks giving a dangerous alluring depth to it sound so unique!
    Thanks for another wonderful article!
    Happy New Year to everyone!
    From EU

  • I love roses and just like Hernando, I really loved Dior’s Rose Star. It was unexpected. Hernando said it right when he called it “pale, transparent and infused with light.” A breezy, sheer beauty.

Cypress Cove Evening At The Resort that Sandi wrote about is an intriguing one to me. “Tenderly modern” with mahogany and nagarmotha got my attention. Seems like how a sunset goes. Subtle changes in colors until you notice it’s dark now. That’s how I picture this fragrance.

Scarlett Lady is my pick to win the giveaway. Sounds so sexy! I’m in the USA, waiting to be sexy. 🙂

  • I enjoyed reading this because it felt personal, not like a scoreboard. That introduction about perfume being a quiet revolt when words are not enough, and something that can feel like home, that is real.

Some of the choices pulled me in with simple pictures, New Orleans in Hez Parfums 504 Extrait, mezcal under a deep blue desert sky in Mezcal Azul, and that idea of a rose in Dior Rose Star that stays steady, “like a star that does not flicker.” And Hernando’s note about losing Olfactive Art Keller, that “you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone” line, that stuck with me.

What sparks my interest most is Shimmering, the way it is described as subtle and comforting, more like a presence than a performance. If I win, I would like Neil Morris Fragrances Shimmering.

    I reside in the USA.

  • Another list of great scents from 2025. Standouts for me: Oud Zaraian, a bold, spicy, ambery and rich woody oriental that is unique in the Creed catalog of scents, it has performance and depth. You are enveloped in the intensity of warm spices and sweet and creamy undertones. This is a scent that will get noticed; Inspired by the desert and its landscape, Mezcal Azul takes you to wild agave fields and a desert landscape of rustic, earthy and resinous creosote, imparting a fresh, green, smoky quality; Cognac Reign, a woody spicy fragrance that highlights the French tradition of cognac, showcasing aged wood, the warmth of barrel woods and a subtle sweetness, and a strong iris/orris note. It is hearty, smoky, rich and regal. Scarlett Lady sparks my interest.
    USA

  • I have really enjoyed reading these best-ofs and looking for patterns, samenesses and differences in notes, etc. that were popular among the reviewers. I think Sandi said it best when she said, “Fragrance became more than an accessory for many of us; it was memories bottled, armor for uncertain days, secrets shared with a friend, and also a quiet revolt when words are not enough.”
I haven’t tried any of these, but would love to try: 504, Crème Ébène, Cuir de Russie, Beaut’Air, Cognac Reign, Oud Zaraian and Alto Astral. The one I would love to win is Shimmering! I am in the USA.

  • Happy New Year everyone!

Sandi’s description of Statik Olfactive Scarlett Lady is pure poetry: “A vintage rose bouquet… wrapped in a pillowy marshmallow hush before suede and a lipstick-tinged iris fold into a cool, bracing heart.” The idea of a “wild west elegance that feels weathered, sensual, and utterly alive” is the most captivating olfactory story I’ve heard all year. It sounds like a character in a novel. Hernando’s tour of NYC’s fragrance scene is a dream itinerary, but my soul is set on that Scarlet Lady. I am in the EU and would be thrilled to win Scarlett Lady.

  • FragranceFrenzyS says:

Sandi’s opening reflection deeply resonated with me: “Fragrance became more than an accessory… it was memories bottled, armor for uncertain days.” This is exactly how I’ve come to view scent. Her choice of Wit and West Caldera Flower as a “memory poured into a fragrance” and Hernando’s poignant tribute to the Olfactory Art Keller highlight the profound connection between smell, art, and loss. For the draw, the complex, narrative beauty of Scarlett Lady is my clear choice. I am in the EU.

  • Sandi’s praise for Darren Alan as Perfumer of the Year is so well-deserved. His ability to craft a “graceful neo-vintage sensibility” is precisely what draws me to his work. Her review of his Cuir De Russie as “timeless yet refreshingly modern” makes it a must-try. However, it’s his creation Scarlett Lady for Statik Olfactive that has utterly captured my imagination with its “desert-worn and intimate” drydown. I live in the EU and entering for Scarlett Lady.

  • Hernando’s vibrant snapshot of New York’s fragrance retail renaissance is exhilarating! It makes me want to book a flight. His pick of Bond No.9 Chic for capturing the city’s “uptown chic” aura sounds irresistible. Yet, Sandi’s list speaks to my heart. The way she describes Hez Parfums 504 Extrait making her feel “both playful and poised” is the mark of a great fragrance. But the unique fusion in Scarlett Lady, vintage rose, lipstick iris, gin, and desert sage, is unparalleled.
    EU, hoping for Scarlett Lady.

  • AromaAdventurer says:

Sandi’s list feels like a warm embrace. The 7 Virtues Blackberry Lily returning by popular demand speaks volumes about its quiet power. Her description of Neil Morris Fragrances Shimmering having a “quiet power… lifting moments with a radiant, tender grace” is beautiful. But the atmospheric, storytelling quality of Scarlett Lady, that journey from a vintage bouquet to a smoky, sagebrush-kissed desert, is the olfactory adventure I crave. EU.
Happy New Year to everyone and to CaFleureBon Team!

  • Nuvare Aenra says:

First of all, Happy New Year!
What comes to an article: the textural contrasts in Sandi’s selections are exquisite. Nicolai Parfumeur-Createur Crème Ébène with its “honeyed resinous heart” and “tender, subtly radiant tapestry” sounds deeply sophisticated. Hernando’s excitement over the Infiniment Coty Paris Ambre Antique 1905 recreation is infectious. However, the bold, evocative blend of notes in Scarlett Lady, especially the “pillowy marshmallow hush” against “gin and tobacco’s smoky sophistication,” promises a unique tactile experience. EU based (Germany) and choose Scarlett Lady.

  • What a beautifully curated selection to close out the year. Sandi’s reflection on fragrance as “armor for uncertain days” resonated deeply, capturing how scent so often becomes a vessel for memory and courage. Though I haven’t yet experienced these creations firsthand, this collection has stirred genuine intrigue. If given the chance to win, I’d choose Darren Alan’s Statik Olfactive Scarlet Lady, whose description, “a wild west elegance… weathered, sensual, and utterly alive”, could be a full short story itself. Darren Alan’s recognition as Perfumer of the Year is well earned; his neo-vintage artistry feels like a love letter to the past that has been edited, streamlined, or reinterpreted to fit how people wear and experience scent today. Both lists celebrate not just craftsmanship, but character, and that’s what makes this compilation feel so special. With that, here’s to stepping into a New Year beautifully scented with every spritz!

  • Ramses Perez says:

Another incredible collection of scents released this year. This new collection seems to go their own way and deviates a bit from the others previously shared but it gives me the opportunity to explore more astounding creations. Sandi’s picks stuck more to an indie/niche line while Hernando explored more of the “big releases” of the year. Particularly I have heard a lot of great things about Oud Zarian from Creed so I’d love to try that one as well as Scarlett Lady, Chic by Bond No. 9 and of course Rose Star by Dior. I’m very much still digging the variety of scents presented here from rose to ouds to ambery and boozy creations. I have heard only great things about Ambre Antique by Infinement Coty but I’m afraid the steep price tag and rarity of the creation may prevent some from trying it and falling in love with it. I do hope they make it into their regular collection and not a limited release so that more of us have the chance of trying it. It’s yet another impeccable list of scents to add to my wishlist of samples. I’d love to win Statik Olfactive’s Scarlett Lady if chosen. I’m located in the US.

  • Hernando’s 2025 best-of lists on ÇaFleureBon! Sandi’s is full of poetic indies -Darren Alan’s Cuir de Russie and Scarlet Lady really grabbed me with that vintage, sensual rose and leather vibe. Hernando’s leans luxe with Creed Oud Zaraian and Dior Rose Star sounding so opulent and radiant.
What sparked my interest was all the rose-centric ones (I’m a total rose addict) and the foodie/boozy notes like tonka rouge and cognac.
I’d kill to try Scents of Man 1651, Statik Olfactive Scarlet Lady, and Kelly+Jones Mezcal Azul –haven’t sampled any yet. I live in Poland, EU. I would love to win Scarlett Lady by Statik Olfactive.
What resonated most was Sandi’s line about fragrance as “memories bottled, armor for uncertain days”hits hard.

  • Happy to see Evening at the Resort on this list. It is beautiful. I am enjoying my bottle. After reading this I need to test Berenia. I didn’t care for the original, so haven’t bothered with the second. Guess I missed out. I’d love to win Scarlet Lady because Darren created it. I know we will see a lot more of him in 2026. Happy Fragrant New Years!! USA.

  • That opening from Sandi hit hard, the idea that fragrance can be “memories bottled” and even “armor for uncertain days” is exactly why I keep coming back to these end of year lists. I also liked how specific the picks feel, like Hez Parfums 504 Extrait being “quintessentially New Orleans,” or KELLY+JONES Mezcal Azul pulling you straight into Oaxaca agave fields with that agave-embers, desert-sky simplicity.

A few I’d genuinely want to get on skin are Balmain Blanc Galaxie for the “five citruses” eclipse concept and that creamy drydown, and D.S. & DURGA Cognac Reign for that caramelized bergamot into an Earl Grey-like aura with dark chocolate and caramel. But the one that feels most like my lane is Neil Morris Fragrances Shimmering, the way it’s described as quiet power, suggestion over spectacle, and something that lingers with a kind of tender grace.

The quote that resonated most for me was also that “memories bottled” line, because it nails why scent matters when life is loud. For the giveaway, I would like to win Neil Morris Fragrances Shimmering.

    I live in the USA.

  • crownroyale47 says:

The reason I liked this review is because it captures fragrance as something far deeper than adornment, presenting it as memory, protection, and personal expression during times of change. What resonates most with me is the emphasis on how scent makes us feel rather than how it performs, highlighting perfumes as sources of comfort, courage, and quiet confidence. I was especially impressed by the emotional framing of fragrance as something that can ground us or help us shift our surroundings when the world feels uncertain. The line I loved most is, “Fragrance became more than an accessory for many of us; it was memories bottled, armor for uncertain days.” From this selection, I’m most interested in trying Hez Parfums 504 Extrait for its slow, evocative sense of place and Darren Alan Cuir de Russie for its timeless, empowering presence and ability to tell a complete story without words. For the giveaway I would love to try Scarlett Lady. I live in the US. New Jersey.

  • Sandi’s intro perfectly articulated my year: scent as “armor” and a “quiet revolt.” Her pick of Shimmering as a “graceful form of solace” sounds profoundly comforting. Hernando’s poignant Hall of Fame for the Olfactory Art Keller reminds us how vital such spaces are. For the draw, I’m drawn to the more dramatic solace of Scarlett Lady. Its “weathered, sensual” elegance feels like strength in a bottle. I am in the EU.

  • Both lists celebrate incredible artistry, but Sandi’s focus on indie and artisan perfumers is especially dear to me. Her monthly anticipation of Darren Alan’s releases is a feeling I share with other small-batch enthusiasts. Cypress Cove Evening At The Resort with its “velvet” rose and “elegant” musk also sounds lovely. Yet, Darren Alan’s work for Statik Olfactive seems to be a particular standout. I am in the EU and would love to win Scarlett Lady.

  • FragranceFrenzyS says:

    Happy New Year!!!

As a rose lover, I’m spoilt for choice! Scents of Man 1651 with its “opulent bouquet” and Dior La Collection Privée Rose Star as a “pale, transparent” celestial rose both sound magnificent. But Sandi’s Scarlett Lady presents the rose in the most intriguing context I’ve ever heard: paired with marshmallow, suede, lipstick, gin, and desert sage. It’s a rose with a full, cinematic backstory. That’s the one I need to experience and would be happy to win.
    EU.

  • AromaAdventurer says:

Hernando’s transportive experience with KELLY+JONES Mezcal Azul, to a desert under a deep blue sky, is the magic of fragrance. Sandi’s journey with Hez Parfums 504 Extrait to a “spirited yet refined” New Orleans is similarly evocative. This power to transport is what I seek, and Scarlett Lady promises the most vivid journey of all: from a vintage boudoir to the arid, sensual American West. EU based and entering for Scarlett Lady.
And wishing çafleurebon’s wonderful team and all the readers all the best in the new 2026!

  • Nuvare Aenra says:

Sandi’s appreciation for Darren Alan Perfumes Cuir De Russie paying homage to predecessors while being “confidently on its own” is the hallmark of a modern classic. Hernando’s praise for Hermès Barénia Eau de Parfum Intense as a “more robust, sensual” iteration also hits that note. Scarlett Lady seems to do the same for the rose genre, respecting its vintage heritage while twisting it into something utterly new and “wild.” Would be happy to win Scarlett Lady. I am in the EU.

  • Happy new year to everyone! I must admit that Sandi’s closing thought on fragrances chosen “for how they make us feel when the world… keeps changing” is the core of it all. But to me both editors selected scents that evoke powerful feelings, from the “joy” of Byredo Alto Astral to the “poised” daring of 504 Extrait. Scarlett Lady, with its complex blend of pillowy softness, smoky sophistication, and weathered intimacy, seems designed to make the wearer feel uniquely, powerfully themselves. That’s the alchemy I want. EU and hope to win Scarlett Lady.
    Best Regards!

I’m writing this after a few glasses of champagne…
Hernando’s list had the most perfumes that I’ve tried, and in tea sense allowed me to see how my newbie nose stacked against that of an expert. There were a few that we agreed on, and a few on which we didn’t. As for Sandi’s reviews, they were also quite useful in helping me develop my nose. I’d just need to follow it up with actually smelling the perfumes. The one I have smelled is Scarlett Lady. I also got a Wild West vibe, but the image of Val Kilmer’s Doc Holliday in Tombstone was what came to me – a romantic Doc Holliday (without the tuberculosis) with the scent of lipstick left on his leather overcoat by one of the ladies in the bordello.
I live in the US. I choose Scarlett Lady. Happy New Year.

hanks for the inspiring year-end round-up! Reading Sandi and Hernando’s Best 10 Fragrances of 2025 (Part 5) made me appreciate just how wide and expressive this year’s perfume landscape has been — from intimate, soft whispers of scent to bold, atmospheric statements that linger in memory. I especially loved how their picks focus on the feeling each fragrance evokes, not just the notes on the page, making it easy to imagine wearing them in different moments and moods. Their reflections have me excited to explore these standout fragrances and discover ones that might speak to my own story.

I would love to try either of these!

    Cheers from WI, USA

Sandi’s top 10 reads like scents you return to, live with, and understand more deeply over time. Place as atmosphere, comfort that avoids sweetness or simplicity, heritage with self awareness – fragrances stripped by any distracting [and may I say – unnecessary] excess.
Hernando’s picks, as a whole, feel like the other half of 2025: warmth, radiance, indulgence, and historical continuity. What I appreciate most is that he’s not afraid to include mainstream luxury alongside niche and archival revivals.
Being from EU, my choice would be Scarlett Lady, a rose with character :).
    Happy new year!

  • I liked the description of Darren Alan Perfumes Cuir De Russie and just looking into getting a discovery set from his site as an intro to his work. Statik Olfactive sounds delightful. I’m in USA

  • Tonka Rouge with its raspberry and licorice notes piqued my interest. It sounds delicious. Scarlet Lady would be my choice, if lucky. Thanks for sharing your best fragrances. MI USA

  • Another fabulous end-of-year round-up by Hernando Courtright! Very thoughtfully and beautifully described, with special attention paid to the artisans and creators (love that!), and to where his choices fit into the vast burgeoning fragrance marketplace that is getting more crowded every day. Hernando and I share a penchant for classically-inspired perfumes with dramatic ingredient profiles, and he is spot-on with this list… I want every one! And thank you so much for highlighting the diverse plethora of fragrance retailers that have sprung up in NYC, this will be super-helpful to all the visitors who are always asking where they can go to sniff. I especially appreciated the lovely tribute to the dear departed Olfactive Art Keller, an ambitious and highly creative scent gallery that is truly worthy of a Hall of Fame Award. Bravo, Hernando – wonderful and insightful job!

  • Hernando and Sandi provided us with a very varied list this year. So many unique offerings that should appeal to every taste. I’ve been following Darren Alan for several years and his collab with Statik Olfactive had generated a number of interesting fragrances. I love the uber-feminine start to Scarlett Lady with the florals, marshmallow and lipstick start and the gin, tobacco and desert wood finish. Sound like a perfume for a grand dame. MD, USA

  • Your review and summary of Scarlett Lady made me wish I could try it, so what a happy chance you are able to share that with the followers. Gin and tobacco underneath, am so curious how that would develop.

Would love to be considered for Scarlett Lady (US).

  • Loved reading Part 5 — Sandi and Hernando’s choices feel very personal and full of genuine enthusiasm. I like the mix of joyful, feel-good perfumes with deeper, more contemplative ones. A compact list, but with a lot of character.

I would love to win Scarlett Lady

  • Sandi’s introduction got me thinking about how fragrance can be a point of focus as a way to get through stressful times. It certainly causes me to pause and reflect in the morning; then I get to enjoy my selection throughout the day. “Fragrances should feel like home.” Love that.

Far from my particular home, I’m intrigued by 504’s sense of place, and continue to be impressed with Hez’s rapid output. (Darren Allen and Dawn Spencer Hurwitz are similarly impressive in that regard.) Hernando reminded me about the KELLY+JONES mezcal line; Mezcal Azul sounds fantastic, with its close wear and “refreshingly sweet, earthy, aquatic aroma”, but I’d like to compare the different expressions of mazcal the brand has released side by side, just like a tasting. Parfums Quartana Beaut’Air, Shimmering, and Byredo Alto Astral sound easy to enjoy, especially as a fan of strong grapefruit notes and a breath of sunny fresh air. And Balmain Blanc Galaxie’s multifaceted citrus and “luscious” creamy drydown is very intriguing; only tried a few that have staying power and don’t give me a headache.

I’m in the USA. If I were to win, I’d choose Neil Morris Fragrances Shimmering. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Thanks for another great list very different from the others. I like that Hernando and Sandi have included a lot of niche American perfumers. Unfortunately due to tariffs some have become difficult to try here in Europe and I hope that will change because it would be lovely to get some more Neil Morris perfumes ;).
In my top to try from these two lists are Neil Morris Shimmering, Balmain Blanc Galaxie and Oud Zarhian.
Statik Scarlett Lady really sounds like a gorgeous perfume. I love vintage perfumes so this really sounds up my street and would love to try something from Darren Allen (have never tried any fragrances of his). Would love to enter the draw for this. Marit, NL, EU

  • I absolutely love Darren Alan’s work so much and I haven’t tried this yet. His Lipstick Queen, Cuir de Russie, Hekate, Sacred Smoke, Jonquille etc etc are amazing! I love his subscription too, so fairly priced and a wonderful treat each month. I highly recommend it. Thank you for the generous give away, I am located in the U.S.

  • I am fascinated by the poetry of the perfume descriptions.
So far I have only tried and LOVE the glamour of 1651 by Scents of Man.
I live in South West France.
Difficult to choose from the delectable list but the one I would like to win is Shimmering – it seems intriguingly subtle- ideal for early spring.

  • I completely agree with Sandi and her description of perfumes as a collection of memories and moods. That’s how I use them too; I choose the one that matches my mood that day. Darren Allan’s selection as perfumer of the year is more than deserved: for his own brand and others, this talented craftsman amazes with his ability to create many olfactory gems. Since I love vanilla and its “cousins,” I’d love to try Mr. Cresp’s Tonka Rouge. After living in Brazil for many years, I discovered that Mr. Epinette has created Alta Astral, a very Brazilian expression used to highlight certain people with a great vibe, and I’d love to try it. And, unlike Hernando, I’m a fan of coconut water (one of my favorite drinks when I’m thirsty). I live in Spain, EU, and I’d love to win Scarlett Lady by Statik Olfactive.

  • Only reading the notes and stories of the fragrances, I wouldn’t mind trying all of Sandi’s picks. On Hernando’s top 10, to me Beaut’Air stands out because of the concept behind it (“…brings a cleansing aura, supporting the mental-physical connection. The composition and focus are designed to inspire healing and foster an overall sense of wellness, positivity, and abundance.”). Essential oils and fragrances are part of holistic healing experiences.

I am in the EU and would love to win Scarlett Lady (such a beautiful presentation, btw).

  • The perfume world is saturated with the abundance of new releases year after year.
I rarely have access to niche perfume so I haven’t been able to smell much from those 2 lists; I think only Barenia. But from the reviews and knowing some houses what they have put out, some of them look interesting. Though the ones that I would be eager to try the most are Cuir de Russie, Alto Astral and Scarlett Lady.
Thanks for the info and the draw, I am in the EU.

Sandi’s reflection on fragrance as “armor for uncertain days” truly resonated with me — perfume as memory, refuge, and quiet revolt feels deeply true. From her list, Neil Morris Shimmering sparks my curiosity most: the idea of a scent that offers solace through subtlety, tenderness, and suggestion rather than force feels exactly like what I reach for lately. Hernando’s selections also pulled me toward Statik Olfactive Scarlet Lady, with its vintage rose, suede, and weathered elegance — a story-rich composition I’d love to experience on skin. I would like to win Shimmering. I live in the Bay Area, USA.
